Avoiding my house and powerlines, this team moved in synchronicity . What was very clear from the beginning was their attention to safety not only for the property but for themselves. Our plans and completed project included significant landscaping, including the installation and irrigation of more than 60 mature trees of various species, as well as multiple shrubs, flowers and other plants. We hired a general contractor, landscape contractor and numerous subcontractors. We also had to navigate situations in which we needed to ensure construction would not disrupt the health of existing trees around the property. Prior to discovering Ben Anderson, we had engaged two other ISA Board Certified arborists who are well-regarded and expert consultants in the wider Bay Area. We brought Ben in for an additional perspective and immediately were impressed by his breadth and depth of knowledge and experience, and attention to detail. Ben clearly stood out from other arborists and immediately became our preferred arborist for multiple engagements throughout our project. We still engage him today and annually for ongoing assessments and recommendations to ensure our landscape investments continue to thrive. As example projects Ben has handled for us, we hired him to (a) assess existing tree health and recommend a course of action for navigating planned construction to preserve those existing trees; (b) diagnose a section of trees that were showing signs of illness and poor health, and recommend a plan for recovery; (c) supervise planting by landscape contractors and nurseries, including steps to optimize likelihood of proper soil conditions and irrigation; and (d) conduct detailed soil assessments at multiple planting locations. From start to finish, they were great! Jason came to our house the very next day, on a Saturday even. He was prompt, knowledgeable, explained everything, and even told us another tree project could wait. Talk about integrity! Plus, he gave us a great price. On Wednesday morning, the crew arrived on time, worked hard, were very respectful of the property, and cleaned up everything. They even took the time to remove some bulky dead roots for us. I've waited many months to leave this review in the hope that it wouldn't be necessary. Our family…read morehas worked with Peter and his wife and business partner Kimi in the past. We connected with their son Chad last summer after he took over the family business. Chad and his team came through and did a bunch of work for us over eight days, and for the most part they did it well. The tree removal work was really excellent (and they did a lot of that). The pruning was more aggressive than I would have liked - they stripped my oaks pretty bare, not in a way that did long term harm but in a way that other arborists have commented on negatively and that have left the oaks much less beautiful than they were. Also, and even more importantly, Chad bailed out before completing the project and stopped returning our calls, texts, and emails once he had his check. The work had two phases - the main phase, on our property, and the smaller but most important phase - the light pruning of a neighbor's towering oak, which over 15 years has now almost completely obscured our once-stunning view of Mt. Tam. We made clear to Chad up front that the view restoration was the main reason for the job and the goal that most of the other work was pointing towards. We connected Chad with the neighbors and, though his follow-through was slow, he told us that he'd had positive communications with the neighbors and that they seemed open to the pruning. When the on-site work was finished, it became impossible to reach Chad. We called, texted, and emailed him many times about the view issue and got no reply until 4 months later, when he sent us the final bill for the job. Having had experience with his lack of follow-through, we said we'd prefer to hold off on payment until the view restoration was completed. Chad replied that it would be "silly" to hold up payment over what would be no more than "a couple hours" of work. He said he would comp the work in order to be paid sooner. We should've trusted our gut. You can probably guess the rest of the story. Months of calls, texts, emails, and NADA. Like a bad boyfriend, Chad GHOSTED entirely, leaving our bank account many thousands smaller and our home a room with no view. We really liked Chad personally and gave him so many chances to make things right, and he just dropped the ball and stopped communicating entirely. Chad and his his parents (Peter and Kimi) are kind and lovely people, and it makes me sad to have to write this review, but people should learn from our mistake and not confuse friendliness with professionalism. While on the job, Chad was friendly, ingratiating, and attentive, but once he was off site, he was gone. My advice is be sure he completes EVERYTHING you agree to before you pay your final bill. I hope that he will grow into this job and learn to do better. I really believed that he had that capacity.

Rescued! During a recent storm, Kimi, Chad and their team rescued my elderly parents from a huge…read moreoak that fell that blocked the entrances to their house. Chad came by within a few hours to clear a safe path and then his crew came the next day to remove the oak. Kimi even offered to bring my parents groceries. So kind, efficient and reasonably priced. They made a very stressful situation so much easier.
