Aside from the standard chit chat (which was very fun), she explained what all of the products were that she used in my hair, how they work, and how to combine them for the best result. She also gave me some tips on how to keep my locks looking their best and keep their curl. My hair looks amazing! I absolutely love going to SHEP Salon. I've been going there about 4 years now and I'll never go anywhere else. Before I found SHEP, my hair was never cut or styled correctly and the color was atrocious. I tried finding a salon that knew how to manage and color my hair type for yearssss. I have extremely thick hair; I'm a natural red-head but I love to add different shades of red depending on the season. And both Grace and Maddie have shown me what healthy, well-styled red hair actually looks like--I'm genuinely so grateful for them!! I'll never trust anyone with my hair again. I got a hair cut, the girl was super nice and the haircut looked fine, but the day after it my face shaping hairs were completely off, I was in the area but don't live close by. I tried to come back in, but it didn't work out and I called again and they were super hard to work with to set up another time even though it is a minor fix, but a major pain in the ass. Wouldn't even give me a refund, even tho I have to pay to get it fixed. They were also incredibly rude to me. read more

This was my third appointment with Tarlan. I am recovering from Cancer Treatments, so my hair was short and uneven at the first appointment. Tarlan did a wonderful job, for which I left a wonderful review, and my hair grew out beautifully. I casually mentioned I liked the length, but she went ahead and cut my hair short again but did "feather" the back hair line instead of a sharp edge. This appointment I was more direct in asking for just a trim and to please leave the length. I also asked to leave the hair covering the tops of my ears and make the back hair line more rounded. I believe she became offended from my requests because of how I was treated even though she had asked I consider what hair style I ultimately wanted. I had no idea she had a passive/aggressive personality. She extracted her vengeance by cutting the right side of my hair very short and the left side medium short on top with the back choppy and uneven. She was laughing as she overly exclaimed how cute my hair cut was. I didn't know what was going on until I got home and saw it. This passive/aggressive behavior impacted me far more than just a bad hair cut. I am retired on a fixed income. The price for her cut is $40 and I tipped well with $10. I then had to get another cut. With inflation my budget is gone. Her immaturity cost me dearly. I was going to ask Shep Salon if they could "fix" my cut, but it took 2 days for them to return my call. It was a supervisor who did call back, and I then realized they know what kind of person Tarlan is. My complaint would not have much impact. So Tarlan can do a wonderful job and also get great joy in doing a horrible job. She gets offended from normal requests, so know it is her way or the highway. read more

A lovely building and hair cutting experience--Shep has been cutting my hair for a year and I trust him! I have a short bob and wouldn't feel comfortable going that short without his work. He is one of the only people who has had constructive suggestions when I ask what he thinks would look good. Most people just say, "it's up to you!" He strikes the balance of getting to know my preferences and personality, and then making suggestions that gently push me to be slightly more adventurous in a way that I'm always glad about in the end, and obviously still leaves the decision up to me. First off let me just say that Shep Studio is one of, if not THE best, salon in the Provo/Orem area. I get my cut and color by Kamee, and she is amazing at what she does! She listens to what I want and takes note if I want any adjustments to my color. Also, the only issue I ever had was a scheduling mishap, however the owner, Shep, acted immediately to help find a solution for me! Very impressed by his professionalism and desire to help me continue to have a great experience at his salon. Overall, great looking salon complete with modern, industrial style interior. Shep Studio is by far the best salon in Utah. I've tried several and go back to Shep every time. I've only tried others because the drive to Provo isn't easy for me to make but no one puts more thought and attention into their business than Shep. All the details like design, layout, cleanliness, product selection play a part in your whole experience. It's obvious that Shep and the people he hires are passionate about what they do. Hair is cleaned up immediately, cords are hidden, mirrors are clean, counters are all uncluttered and it's all part of the design. It just shows that they are serious about what they do and the same attention to detail goes into your cut, color and style. Now to the haircut... Hair is just hair, right? No. Your hair texture, face shape, hair color, personal style all go into a good cut. Shep Studi takes these things into consideration and tries to make the cut and color fit you, personally. They don't necessarily follow trends or do the same beach waves with everyone's hair. They do what will work for you and don't force something on you that you can't work with or repeat. I've never had another hair cut come close to the perfection of a Shep haircut. He makes sure every hair is in place! The amount of thought and care that go into a cut is unmatched.
