The thing that put me off was the aggressive signage everywhere prohibiting this and that. No pets, restrooms for customers only, tables reserved for 2 or more customers, no outside food, etc. I'm sympathetic to business owners trying to prevent customers from taking advantage in various ways, but these kinds of things set an unwelcoming tone that annoys me. Downtown Local is near a local brewery, yoga studio and other shops. Upon entering the space we were greeted immediately and the space felt cozy. There were plenty of chairs and they had cute decor up for the fall. The menu features your typical coffee/sandwich shop with breakfast and lunch options. I ordered their bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel and was very underwhelmed when I went to take my first bite. The sandwich overall was small. The bacon was extremely thin and I think there was only one fried egg on the already small bagel. It definitely felt like something I could make at home yet the sandwich was $10! I wouldn't recommend the BEC bagel however maybe other items on the menu are better. The service again was great.

We've had days of grabbing a drink and sitting around in their soft seating reading a book. I've only had coffee and I think it's a good, basic coffee. I like mochas and I believe they use Ghirardelli syrup for those. The mocha tends to skew sweet, which is fine with me. They're not very rich drinks. There are also a lot of other flavors, which I think are your standard syrups (they can be fine and so many cafes use them, but they sometimes are a bit artificial tasting.) The staff is always friendly and accommodating.

The service is a bit slow by modern standards, but well worth the wait, and we passed our time pleasantly.
