    Some interesting flavors

Overcast day, walked around cute Main Street for some post Xmas shopping, stopping by Flour & Water for a cookie (hubs) & chai tea (me). Both hit the spot, a nice reprieve before venturing back out.

Stopped in this cute little bakery shop when I was visiting my sister in Woodstock. There were so many options to choose from it was hard to decide! The vibe is sort of off-beat - the tables are all different sizes/styles so it comes off sort of like a mis-matched coffee shop ambiance. There was a pretty long line when we came, but when we were able to place our order, it was prepared pretty quickly. I got this souffle kind of thing with an iced tea. When I ordered the tea, I had no idea it was going to be blue. Threw me off - but it wasn't terrible, just not what I'd expected. The souffle was okay but not the best I've had. If I'm back visiting I'll have to try some of the other stuff because I think I perhaps just chose poorly on my order. My sister and my mom were raving about what they ordered, so maybe I was just unlucky.

i got the blackberry tea, it was only $3 and i really loved it. make sure to mix because the syrup is at the bottom. store was very cute and they had a selection of nice merch and souvenirs.

Flour and Water Co is a solid spot for anyone craving authentic European-style baked goods. They offer a wide selection -- from breads to pastries -- and everything is fresh and well-made. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. I'd give five stars if there was just a bit more standout flavor or uniqueness in some of the items, but overall, very satisfying!

Great place in a small town Woodstock VA . We had brunch there. Ordered Crab eggs benedict. It was delicious. Perfectly cooked egg . Loved the sauce. Few of us got coffee and tea. Also we packed home sone of their savory items. Will be back soon,

I loved everything we got here, and we got almost everything! The stars are the fun pastries: the magic bar (my favorite) and the homemade pop tarts (family favorite) among the stars. Not only the pastries, but the breads are phenomenal. The croissant bread is rich and decadent, perfect add to a sandwich or to elevate French toast. The baguettes have that wonderful airiness and nuttiness that make a great taste. I loved our lunches as well! The family loves the chicken salad on the croissant bread, a great balance of savory and sweet. I sampled the soup of the day (vegetable), which was rich and buttery. I loved that they served it in a mug as well, so homey and charming! I also wanted to add we had lovely service. We must have stood at the counter for five solid minutes randomly adding new items to our lunch and bread/pastry order, and the staff kindly and politely assisted us. My dad mentioned last time he was there he'd bought a baguette and been bummed to leave it on the counter, and so they even threw one in for us!! I can't wait to return here and recommend it for breakfast, lunch, and especially for magic bars.

Flour & Water is consistently great! We love their Wednesday "pizza and pasta night" specials. It's hard to choose between the pizza or the pasta, but you really can't go wrong either way. The pasta specials are inventive and truly outstanding. Tonight's menu was no exception. Service is also top notch -- fast and efficient while creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It's clear the F&W team takes pride in everything they do, and we appreciate them!

This is a very cute place, coffee shop, bakery and they have really good sandwiches. The people here were also incredibly nice and welcoming.

TLDR: Wonderful locally owned bakery. Come for the artisan sourdough and desserts. Vibe: 5/5. Located right on the main street of Woodstock, Flour & Water has all the hometown bakery charm. The building has 2 floors, with the upstairs being a beautiful dining room complete with a picturesque balcony overlooking the street. The downstairs level is where the main counter and open kitchen are located. The decor fully embraces that of a country bakery. A large glass dessert case takes center stage of the bakery complete with oversized glass cookie jars on top and wicker baskets filled to the brim with fresh breads and pastries. Service: 5/5. We stopped at Flour & Water on a Friday at around 3pm on a Saturday. According to their website/Google and Yelp, they typically close at 3pm, but when we arrived they were 100% open. I believe this was due to the busy nature of the time we came, as there was an Arts and Crafts festival going on in the street nearby with many people coming in looking for an afternoon coffee/snack. The staff was more than helpful in guiding us through their menu and making suggestions. We were on the hunt for a bread that would compliment shashuka, and the baker recommended a black pepper parmesan sourdough they had on special, which fit the bill perfectly! Food: 5/5. As mentioned above, our main purpose for stopping by was to find a bread to pair nicely with our shashuka. The pepper parmesan sourdough loaf was amazing. Perfectly crusty and peppery outside paired with a soft savory inside took our shashuka to the next level. We also grabbed a latte and a snickerdoodle cookie to enjoy as we walked around Woodstock. The cookie was humongous, being the size of a dessert plate and perfectly baked. The latte was also well done and paired nicely with the cinnamon sugar of the doodle.

Amazing bread. Focaccia is probably the best I've ever had. Man could live on bread alone as long as he gets it here.

Being the mom of a freshman who is 3hrs away learning how to navigate special days where you can't be present is new and can be a challenge. Of course I sent a care package full of treats, but I wanted her to also have something fresh. I ordered a box that came with six cupcakes, two cookies and half a dozen chocolate covered strawberries. This was a large enough box for her to share with her friends (highly doubt this happened. My girl loves sweets lol) or to keep her satisfied all weekend lol. Ordering was easy and delivery was a breeze. They checked in with me the day before to confirm the delivery time and even snapped a really cute picture of her holding her surprise. I definitely plan on visiting them in person on my next visit to the Burg. If you're looking for a few sweet treats, I'd highly recommend Sweet Joy's.

Would I drive 7 hours just to pick up a order from this bakery? If you hesitate even a second with…read morehow to answer, we can't be friends. I love-love-love some pastries. Scones, cookies, tarts, doughnuts, just keep the carbs and sugar coming. And upon my last visit to the Burg, I walked up on this place. Upon discovering that you have to place orders ahead of time (for a Friday/Saturday pickup), I immediately added a reminder note to place a order before returning. Thus my first interaction with the team here. Due to other commitments on Friday, and leaving early on Saturday, I knew if a Thursday pickup wasn't a option then I would not be enjoying anything. I sent a email and within 24 hours Alicia responded and graciously said they could make it work. Then, I just started clicking. 2 of this, 1 of that, wait what flavors are those? I might of been a touch hungry while ordering, but honestly that wouldn't have made a difference. Knowing the two doing the baking (take a moment to read the "About Us" page) and what they offered (e.g. butterscotch bourbon oatmeal cream pie, cinnamon streusel coffee cake, gooey butter cookies, sugar cookies-with sprinkles, strawberry lemon scones...wait, this was my order I picked up!), I came with a high level of anticipation. I walked up to the window, rang the bell, and held my breath. What if they had forgotten me? What if my order had somehow disappeared between Augusta and the Burg? What if...almost immediately Alicia opened the service window. My order was boxed and ready to go. No disrespect to the photos they share on social media handles, but that is just not enough to fully prepare one for the sight awaiting in that clear top on the box. The multi colors of the sugar cookie, the thickness and weight of the oatmeal cream pies (yes, I ordered 2), and of course the heavenly aroma of it all as one deeply inhales. To save myself the embarrassment of shamelessly eating everything like Cookie Monster in the Nabisco factory, I waited till I was alone to open this treasure trove of goodness. The butterscotch and bourbon, they go together like the final couple of a dating series finale. I am soooo glad I didn't eat a meal before this. That alone almost took me out for the afternoon. Again, the heftiness of the pie is a baking wonder. But oh the moistness (no, I am not afraid to use that word) of the pie and the creme. You don't need milk or coffee to wash it down. But I do suggest a cup of something on hand as you might choke inhaling it with such a swiftness. Then the cookie samples began. My compliment? Everything; flavor, texture, airness. My complaint? Not purchasing more. There should be a nudge that pops up on anything you only order one of that reads, "Are you sure you only want one?" But I digress. And also take a nap. Can't wait for my next order in March. I will add that they do walk up items that do not require pre order. They also have a far more extensive list of pastries (sweet and savory), breads, and custom cakes that you can order. If you are anywhere near Harrisonburg (home or passing through), treat yourself!

The variety of products was surprisingly large for a small…read moreshop. 28 different items in the display cases and 8 varieties of prepackaged cookies on the shelves. This is a family business that started in the home kitchen. It is run by a woman who has a love for baking. With that in mind, I expected homestyle pastries, and that's what they provided. My wife and I tried 4 pastries. 1) Walnut Toffee Bar It had moderate sweetness, a light toffee flavor, and moderate walnut flavor. The bottom layer was a slightly sweet cookie type base that was moist and slightly chewy. It was topped with walnuts and toffee. More toffee flavor was needed, but this is great for lovers of walnuts. 2) Gooey Chewie Bar This was definitely gooey from lots of caramel in a chewy fudge like bar. It wasn't overly sweet. It had some pieces of nuts in it. The crisp crust on top was slightly sweet and had great texture. It was a simple dessert that was made well. 3) Blueberry Crumble It had a flaky croissant like pastry shell filled on top with blueberry jam and cream cheese. It looked like a danish. The cream cheese was smooth and light with a natural flavor. It was not sweet. Sweetness came from the blueberry jam. It had a good sweet fruit flavor that contrasted nicely with the slightly tangy cream cheese. The pastry shell was well-made. The exterior was flaky and crisp while the interior was light, airy, and slightly chewy. This dessert doesn't look pretty, but the flavors were well-matched and satisfying. 4) Cinnamon Roll with spiced cream cheese frosting The spices in the cream cheese were cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. The spices were subtle tasting, but there was enough to give the frosting flavor a hint of spiciness. The roll was soft, moist, and slightly tacky between the layers where the cinnamon was located. The spicy cinnamon was balanced with sweetness from the frosting and roll. Overall, the taste and texture were excellent. The service was helpful, polite, and quick. The store was very clean. They don't have restrooms, tables, or chairs for customers. They have cakes, slices of cake, cupcakes, muffins, quiches, brownies, scones, cookies, coffee, tea, and bottled water. Everything was reasonably priced. The pastries and cookies were not fancy or unique. There was no pastry chef level of presentations here. Everything looked homemade. The food here brings warm feelings of home cooking. They're a good place for comfort food.
