Shem Creek Inn was the perfect place for me and my son to stay for catching a charter boat to Crab Bank (during its last weekend open to the public) and for visiting Charleston. The hotel was clean, modern, and beautifully located on the creek with loads of pelicans and other birds flying by. Nicole at check in was super helpful and friendly, and the self-serve breakfast had better options for us than, for example, a Holiday Inn Express. Parking was a breeze in December, and plenty of good restaurants close by. I'd certainly stay here again. read more

It's located in the most beautiful little area! My room which was cozy, clean, and overlooked the water was beautiful! However it could not be matched by the service that Latasha gave me! God bless her for answering all of my questions. She was so lovely and helpful! I was nervous about doing things on my own without the help of my kids. Latasha took over everything! Nice view of creek, we've stayed here before and it is close to lots of restaurants and places to drink. Reds and Saltwater Cowboys are directly across . Shem Creek is a small hotel/inn located in Mount Pleasant. It's charming. I would say that's the perfect word to describe it. Booked the hotel with Expedia and checked I. Late around 10. There was someone at the desk who took my information quickly. The lobby is beautiful. The hotel is actually located on the second floor of the building which answered all my flooding questions. You see the building is next to a river/creek. There was plenty of parking outside. We stayed facing the water which was awesome. My little one loved looking at the water and really enjoyed the balcony. The room was clean and the ac worked great. A few bars/ restaurants walking distance in the area. So that's a plus for whoever doesn't want to drive to eat or drink. All in all good stay. Will consider it again if I'm in the area. read more

We enjoyed our stay at Shem Creek Inn. I want to give a shout out to the house keeping staff who took our towels every morning and greeted us with a smile. Also the front desk staff helped answer questions and gave recommendations on things to do in the area. Ashley in particular was amazing. Stayed her a few weeks ago when my parents were in town and we really enjoyed it! They upgraded us to a creekside room, definitely worth doing if you're going to stay here. The rooms are pretty spacious and the patios overlooking the creek are pretty big too!! Really conveniently located to restaurants in the area and not to far from the beach or downtown. Also has a pool that overlooks the creek which is really nice! Recommend staying her if you are looking for staying somewhere for a view. Definitely not a 5 star hotel, but just has a very relaxed beachy feel! read more

Another visit, another happy stay. Can't beat the location. We take our bikes, so we can get to a lot of places as well as ride through quiet streets. Pool was clean and a nice temp. Gabe took my reservation and told us of the specials, which saved us quite a bit! He was great and always polite. The morning desk clerk I'm sure is fine, but she was asleep when we came in for the free breakfast. Room was clean, and the view was amazing. Great inn with an even better view. The staff is extremely friendly and they even provide a drink at check in which is awesome. The rooms are always clean, the showers are nice, the pillows are comfortable, and they have DirecTV which is great! My only advice would be the breakfast could use some work. Just a little more selection would be nice but I understand cost is a factor for a hotel. For example they have croissants but nothing to put on them so they aren't very usable. From the minute we pulled up I KNEW we had picked the right hotel for our stay! We had heard about Shem Creek in some books we'd read and Shem Creek Inn was one of the first hotel that showed up during our search. We decided that we wanted to stay on the water and this fit the bill! As soon as you walk into the lobby you have views of the pool and the creek beyond. There were bars and restaurants within walking distance and the Shem Creek Park was right next door. We were in heaven! The room was a good size and well appointed. It wasn't anything super special, but it had great views of the water. We could have jumped in the pool from our balcony! The room was clean, the beds were comfy, and it had a fridge and microwave. And I definitely took advantage of the free wi-fi. The first thing we did after getting our stuff up the the room was change into our suits, fix a drink, and head down to the pool. It was perfect! Again, the pool wasnt anything super special but it was nice and was right on the water. What else could you ask for? Before we went to dinner we were able to check out the surrounding area and the park next door. The staff was super helpful and the gentleman working the desk confirmed that the restaurant we picked for dinner was THE place to go. AND, it was just a mile away! The hotel is older, but everything is clean and kept nice. There was a continental breakfast (which was a pleasant surprise) that was just what we needed before we headed out the next morning. There is parking under the hotel and in an adjacent lot, but since it is right near two restaurant/bars and the park it can be a bit crazy. But as soon as you step inside you forget all about the cars and noise out front. We had no problems with noise from the surrounding businesses, but we did have a little bit of noise being right next to the lobby and front entrance. The location of the room was great, but we could have done without the noise. We loved our stay and will definitely be back the next time we are in town. read more

**UPDATE I was recently contacted by the manager, who was sincerely apologetic about our experience and reparations were offered and greatly appreciated. This was a class act. We will be back! Disappointing. This has been a staple of ours for years now. We've had great experiences, with the exception of a few small glitches. We come at least twice a year, usually to celebrate our anniversary. We showed up this past Friday and the AC wasn't working. Told us they had people there fixing it. Needless to say it was never fixed and was between 80-82 degrees in our room day and night. It was miserable. The only thing we received was a lame apology. No discount for our discomfort, no coupon for a future stay. Nothing. We paid $300 for a miserable two days. From a customer service standpoint, this seems unacceptable. I am never one to expect anything for free and I realize that problems arise with AC units. But to offer nothing but a "sorry about that", was very disappointing. read more

Newly renovated hotel with prime view of Shem Creek and all the beautiful restaurants it has to offer. Plenty of parking, and they give you a parking pass for your car. The entry way and lobby is clean, modern and definitely a taste of Charleston. The room is also renovated, clean and modern. I honestly have no complaints. Ahhh Shem Creek Inn..what a great place. I left a piece of me in SC. I will say that Shem Creek Inn is nothing fancy. But it is cute, and the workers are really nice. Taylor one of the managers is super helpful and personable. Even the maintenance guy saw us at another location and beeped at us to say "Hey! You guys are at my hotel!" The location is bar none...the creek is surrounded by a good row of restaurants, and there is a bar right next door if you are into that stuff. It was a meeting spot for everyone we were there with. Charleston is a five minute drive over the bridge. So very accessible. The beach down Coleman (Sullivan's Beach) is beautiful. They also have a long pier/dock to walk on. I felt like I was in the Notebook or Forest Gump. Amazing time. read more

Not overly impressed. Pics are better than actuality. Overpriced for this time of year. Drop ceiling in bathroom was dirty, as was the vent in shower stall. I paid $154 in total and not worth a dime over $100. Check out is by 11 but the cleaning lady starts knocking at 9:00 and not only did it another time, she was outside waiting when we left at 20 till 11. With so much competition in the area I wish I would have chosen another spot to spend my money. Definitely not as cute as the pictures portray. Will not be returning. read more

Stayed here with a friend this weekend and had a decent experience. We had a junior suite on the 2nd floor right next to the elevator, and I was worried that it would be super noisy, but the sound proofing was on point. I slept like a baby for like 9 hours. It was glorious. There were a couple of negatives that kept me from giving it a 5-star review. Some of our bathroom fixtures were loose (the bathroom faucet, the towel rack), the exhaust in the bathroom was weak so our bathroom was basically a sauna...not ideal for Charleston in the summertime. The walls in the bathroom were also showing their age--lots of scuff marks, and streaks, and stains...not ideal. The shower dispenser was out of conditioner (good thing I brought my own!), the AC had a hard time keeping up with the summer heat, and when we checked in the AC was set at 72, but it was still 75 in the room (and humid too). And the ice machine at the end of the hall seemed to be on the fritz, as it only worked half the time we were there. I had also requested more towels and was told to go out into the hallway to ask one of the cleaning ladies for more towels, and it was like playing Where's Waldo when all I wanted to do was take a shower. The room itself had plenty of room for 2 people (you probably could've even fit 1 or 2 more people in there, as I believe the couch was a pullout), and the TV was big and on a swivel, so you could watch from both ends of the room. I didn't get to use the pool, but it looked super popular and overlooked the creek, which is pretty cool. read more

Shem Creek Inn is an adorable boutique hotel on Shem Creek. I had the pleasure of staying this past Saturday as I won a Shem Creek group giveaway on Instagram! My prize included a one night stay in their suite. Our room was very large, spacious and clean and featured a view of the marsh. The bathroom was extremely nice, the TV was large and on a swivel stand. The staff was extremely friendly, offered us a welcome beer and was able to meet all of our requests - ie: when I forgot my toothbrush! The only negatives were small details. I found were that a few of the fixtures were loose (the bathroom faucet), the exhaust in the bathroom was weak so it took a while for everything to dry out, the shower dispenser was out of conditioner, the air took a while to cool our large room down and the bed was on the smaller side for a Suite - would have expected a King. There was certainly room for it. Also it was a little bit of a bummer facing the Marsh instead of the Creek, considering I was looking forward to people/boat watching on the creek (The lights at Red's and Saltwater Cowboys are so pretty at night!). Overall, I really enjoyed my nice little weekend getaway. The place was adorable. I'd gladly visit the Shem Creek Inn again. read more

The fixtures in the bathroom and shower were also a bit rusty. Continental breakfast left a bit to be desired. It just felt old. The location is great and the views of the water are beautiful. We stayed at the schem creek inn for 2 nights recently and was not impressed! The inn itself is run down could definitely use a facelift and some cleaning. Our rooms TV didn't work the comforter had a few stains. The noise that comes on with the bathroom fan was ear piercing. The balcony was nasty and felt not secure. It's not the cleanest nor does it have any great amenities. The coffee area in the lobby in the AM was also subpar and could stand to be cleaned. The area around with bars and restaurants was cool you could walk to all of them. But the food was 2 stars out of 5 for all of them. I was pretty disappointed when I got previously frozen shrimp at the cabana bar, and nasty grouper on my fish tacos at saltwater cowboys, we are on the water! Definitely won't be back was not impressed! read more

Good open view of the Creek, staff pretty good but... the AC vent which blasted air toward my side of the bed was covered in black mold and a lot of moisture ran down the wall. It's too bad about this place. It is a very attractive inn with friendly, helpful staff and a great location. My room was very comfortable, and I enjoyed my stay. So why too bad? Because I couldn't resolve a billing disagreement, and the management wouldn't communicate with me. I booked a single room in November for two nights through Priceline at the very reasonable price of $59.00 per night (plus taxes and fees of $19.61 per night) for a total of $157.22 for my two-day stay. I made a mistake when I decided I needed to stay for an additional day by asking the front desk rather than booking again through Priceline. I did, however, expressly ask the front desk if I could get the same rate and was expressly told "yes." Later, a person on the front desk stopped me to say that they had gone into the computer to adjust my account to ensure that I would get the same rate. I assumed everything was okay and did not double-check at check-out because you do not get a standard hotel bill when using Priceline; i.e., there was nothing to check. I was very surprised, therefore, when my credit card statement arrived with a charge of $181.29 for the third night alone. I have no idea how this amount was calculated, but it appears to be a great deal higher than the rack rate of $129.00 for the room I occupied and more than double what I paid for each of the first two days of my stay! Three telephone calls failed to resolve the matter, with the nice people on the phone pleading that they lacked the authority to do anything definitive. The person with the authority was always unavailable. The last person I spoke to promised to discuss it with the Person in Authority and come to a decision. Apparently they did. Sort of. I was very happy and grateful to see in my next credit card statement that Shem Creek Inn had credited $100.00 back to my account. BUT, later on, they charged me $100.00 out of the blue. The net effect was nothing changed. I guess someone decided that a partial refund would be fair, and then someone else decided that, Hey, he's far away, let's keep his money! So, too bad for Shem Creek Inn. A really nice place that really likes your money. read more

Shem Creek Inn was the best location for my brother's wedding weekend in Mount Pleasant! The staff was tolerant of our huge party and large amount of guests and accommodated all of our needs throughout the weekend. The rooms were clean and offered a variety of views on each side of the inn. Noise was never an issue from hallways or adjacent rooms either, which was a huge plus! We didn't have the chance to use the pool as it was pretty chilly during our stay, but did wish they had a hot tub to enjoy the views during colder months and relax after busy days in the city. The location of Shem Creek inn is outstanding; it's so close to amazing restaurants and walking distance to many eateries and bars. Great spots to take in the views of Shem Creek, especially sunrises and sunsets. read more

Stayed here in June. Showed up too early for check in. Asked the front desk staff for a recommendation for breakfast in the area he and pointed me to the hotel breakfast buffet. They had no place to store my bag so me and my suitcase took an Uber down the street for breakfast. Nice and clean rooms that are located near great restaurants but rude check-in staff. I was actually chastised for taking the wrong towel to the pool. I would recommend the accommodations but don't expect any southern hospitality. read more

The pool has the perfect view to see all of Shem Creek and all the shrimp boats and fishing boats and all the folks on personal boats coming to the local restaurants. Nothing fancy about the Inn but it is a fantastic place with plenty of eating options in short walking distance. Heck the Happy Hour at Water's Edge is pretty famous for being a good deal and you just walk out behind the Inn and you are there. I left my cooler by the pool(which is an awesome option) and we walked down to Water's Edge and when I returned it was gone. Thankfully the girl at the registration counter thought enough to bring it inside as it was a Yeti and she thought someone might walk off with it. Thanks you! Our room was comfortable and very clean. The location offers much to do and the views are lovely. Our first night of two was a little rocky. We were in room 104. It's close to the lobby, and we got a lot of noise coming from that area. Between a very loud speaker-phone conversation taking place in the lobby and loud guests in the room above us (from approx 2:30 - 4:30 a.m.), we had little sleep. Not wanting a mid-night conflict with others, I did not report the issues until the next day. We turned the fan on to run all night on the HVAC system for night number two and slept very well. The fan drowned out all noise. I saw where another reviewer mentioned the shower pan. Ours was very slippery. I put towels down on the shower floor to avoid slipping. We had a less-than-stellar experience the first night, but the staff took my concerns seriously and did what they could to compensate for our inconveniences. read more

Was really looking forward to our stay on Shem Creek and the view and nearby seafood restaurants were why we booked it. It's a fun nautical place and the views and river life are cool as long as you are booked on the creek side. However, the inn is a little tired. Needs some exterior dress up, landscaping and the furniture in the room had spots and dings. The breakfast is plastic wrapped convenience store goods, rather beneath the price you pay for the room but probably COVID related. A couple free beverages including a good variety of craft beers was nice. The staff was invisible and no hospitality. All in all we came for the views, proximity to the creek and restaurants and that all made for a good stay. The place could be outstanding. They just need to spend a few bucks to improve it. read more

After a wedding, around midnight, booked at last minute on (booking.com) because I wanted to stay close instead of driving over the bridge into Charleston. The desk clerk was amazing, even though i arrived super late and without much notice. The rooms were super clean, far nicer than i expected for what used to be a motel looking place. The entire outfit was airy, light, updated but still friendly and cozy. With 10+ great restaurants nearby and Shem Creek activities, it's a great option. read more

Friendly staff in a great location. There is a bit of a smell in the elevator, but I feel like anything by the water just smells that way. The rooms were nice, modern, clean and even the view of the parking lot was pleasant. I would recommend some more comfortable porch furniture, but the bed was comfortable and that's way more important. Breakfast was your standard continental breakfast and it was all very good. Croissants, bacon, scrambled egg, bagels, yogurt, and cereal. Nothing fancy, but a lot to choose from. We will probably stay here in our future visits to Charleston if we aren't staying with friends. read more

You can't beat the location, but the hotel has certainly deteriorated from last summer when I was here. This is the only place I stay in my business travels that is not a Hilton property, but I love the old "motor lodge" feel, the surrounding restaurants and the water. Updating needs to be done - the towels are ratty, the fixtures and blinds are rusted, the furniture is old, almost getting to the point of feeling dirty. Will I return? Yes, because I can live with all of it for the location. Just realized that I left my iPad in my room.
