Sat in the lobby and had drinks here while waiting for the citrus club. Service was great and the drinks were amazing. Definitely matched the price as they were on the higher side. PS they have the best smelling candles which are in the bathroom, and they sell them online!

Here to rave about the Apple pie Cronut in the Living Room! Absolutely delightful. I wanted a little bit more of the apple filling on the inside but it was perfectly crisp on the outside and dough/flakey (as it is supposed to be) on the inside.

This evening I went to the dewberry for dessert but ended up with dinner and drinks also. I sat at the downstairs bar where Patrick the bartender was very inviting and explained what I had chosen for dinner very detailed which was delicious. And he made a superb old fashion cocktail. I had the cauliflower confet was was amazing and dessert was cheese cake which was magnificent and well displayed.

We heard that the best rooftop view in the city was the Dewberry and when we got there it was ABSOLUTELY that. Fantastic view with a light show thrown in from thunderstorms in the distance! Went to the CITRUS BAR on the roof top as well and enjoyed cocktails (Pineapple Old Fashioned) and a refreshing breeze to accompany the view. Great atmosphere, could have stayed for hours easily. Would definitely go back!

A quick detour from King Street and you see the Dewberry peering over Francis Marion Square. The architecture is not the normal Charleston look but somehow it fits in and is peaceful. Walking in feels warm and inviting as you check in and get brought tea and refreshments. The staff is friendly and super helpful with advice for restaurants and the surrounding area. The hotel has cars that will bring you anywhere you want. The rooms are clean and the beds feel like pillows.

Exceptionally pleasant hi end hotel, bar and rooftop experience. Through in a few boutique shops and you have fine luxury stay in the heart of a Charleston, SC across from Marion Square. This truly is the "center" of Charleston. From the valet to incredible wine and cocktails, you will be treated like royalty. That is why this is one of the top luxury hotels.

Perfect hotel with a great staff and outstanding location in Charleston. Rooms are comfortable and service is outstanding. The downstairs lounge is a great spot for breakfast and afternoon cocktails. The rooftop Citrus Club has excellent views of the city and the surrounding islands.

One of the most beautiful hotels I've ever seen! Purchased and opened back in 2008, The Dewberry transports you into a better time. Everything is unique and Art Deco with clean lines, cushy velvet, and swanky pictures. Everything is comfortable and the service is top notch! Stop in for a stay or check out one of their many restaurants onsite for a quick drink and snack.

1st Visit to Charleston and 1st time to citrus club in the dewberry hotel. The decor was beautiful, the staff were very friendly and the view from the rooftop was amazing. We enjoyed several appetizers from the menu and the popsicle drink. I would love to stop again and recommend to my friends.

Although it wasn't cabana season or warm enough to get into the pool, the cabana room was really nice and clean. I thought the room was just so cute and loved how the entire hotel was decorated. I was still able to enjoy a couple hours sitting out in the sun by the pool during my stay. They offered an hour of complimentary champagne in the late afternoon which was a nice touch. The hotel has a nice cafe and restaurant attached so you don't have to go far to find some food and coffee. I definitely recommend this hotel and enjoyed our brief time there.

The Mills House is one of the truly classic Charleston hotels. It has gone through a lot of owners in its history. It has been an independent property, a Hyatt, a Wyndham and has had many other flags. Hilton has renovated it a bit but kept most of its eccentricities. The location on Meeting Street not far from King can't be beat. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food and drink are the main restaurant and bar, the Iron Rose, are good. The negatives include the plumbing. On two of the three days we were there over Christmas, the water in the shower was just lukewarm, and the water pressure came and went. The other main negative is the cost of parking, $60 a night. That's a Manhattan price, not what you'd expect in a mid-size Southern city. Still, we like the atmosphere and the history, so we'll stick with five stars.

There were a lots of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. They boast about their butler service, which is pretty unique in the United States (akin to the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean). We only stayed one night and did not make the most out of it. Our butler was very pleasant and offered detailed recommendations regarding restaurants in the area. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We arrived early and had to wait a few hours until our room was ready. That was a slight nuisance as it was a cold and rainy October weekend in Charleston. Luckily they had plenty of umbrellas for us to use. The welcome cocktails were a nice touch when we were finally able to check-in. Other nice touches include the complimentary drinks, candies and snacks that were already waiting in the room. The turndown service also included chocolate and a small sweet alcoholic drink / shot. Lastly, the included room service breakfast in the morning elevates the stay. A lot of good things. However, I thought the rooms themselves were just okay and a bit dated. Our friends stayed at a boutique hotel with vaulted ceilings and its own kitchenette for less money. Another disappointment was that we booked a room with a small outdoor courtyard, but were given a regular room. Given the weather, we probably wouldn't have used the outdoor space at all, but it would be good to get what you paid for. Overall very good service and location. They have a nice bar by the lobby that we did not make use of. The rooms themselves are just okay and on the small size. I would probably stay somewhere else next time I visit Charleston, even though I have nothing bad to say about The Spectator. Maybe my expectations were too high with a 4.8 / 5 average Yelp score. I just think there's better value elsewhere.

You're only as strong as your weakest link…read more I've stayed in many hotels for both work and personal travel. The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.
