    Tiniest bathroom.

The art in the lobby is very cool, the rooftop is nice had decent drinks. My issue was the bathroom so small door wouldn't fully open so for a bigger guy 6' 240 couldn't close the bathroom for without squeezing in. The staff were super friendly and helpful.

So there are two iterations of this hotel: the traditional vendue, which is modern, bright, and young, as well as the enclave, which is the newer, renovated rendition, quieter, more refined. I stayed at the traditional vendue in the premier king. I loved the quirky, artsy lobby, full of red velvet chairs, quirky modern art, and bright, sparkly paintings. The door-folk and staff are extremely informative and helpful. The lobby is welcoming and plush. Lots to look at, multiple chessboards to have fun with. My room was on the first floor, which was a bit of a pain, but it had all that I wanted, which was a soft, comfy bed and a good tub. Yes, the first night it took a while for the water to warm up and I had to let it run a few minutes to clear up (yes, it started out brown), but that's a known thing with older buildings. The clawfoot tub was great, really. I had a super warm, glowing fireplace. The robes really are one size fits all (I'm a curvy woman it was super comfy). And the bed was indeed superb. Housekeeping was amazing. Left a French breakfast hanging on our door each morning (croissants, butter, jam, fruit). Left cakes in our room each evening and turned down the beds. Even though I didn't leave the room until 10-ish, housekeeping still tidied up my room. There is a bit of a grandma smell, but that's okay. You get used to it. Location is perfect. Right next to the water, by the parks, near tons of attractions and restaurants. They also have a rooftop bar. The views aren't great, but love the vibe and the breeze. I paid about 1100 dollars for three nights. There are cheaper options, but not with the locations or amenities.

Just came to check out the art and rooftop restaurant/bar. The art is my style so I thoroughly enjoyed exploring and talking to the staff. I'm an artist myself so would love to stay and have pieces in here someday. Didn't get to see the artist in residence space but enjoyed what we did see. The rooftop was beautiful and we were welcome by the artwork at the opening.

Sara and Nicholas!!!!! They made this place absolutely even MORE phenomenal than it already is. Sara has this beautiful, bright and bubbly energy that just fills the whole room and makes you feel so welcomed! Her laugh is infectious and I could have just talked to her all day. My hubby had to remind dad me that we had dinner plans, otherwise I would have been perfectly happy talking to Sara and laughing. Another thing that was so impressive and showed that Sara is this way with everyone is that a woman who also works here, I think she may be some sort of manager, stopped into Sara's area just to tell her how much she appreciates her beautiful laugh and energy. It's one thing to come from a client, but it's even more amazing when other coworkers have to compliment you as well. Nicholas is SO frickin cute and he has the best, most fun personality! When I sat on the couch he said, "Gee, your hand looks so empty," as if to say that I needed some champagne to fill it LOL! I LOVE HIM! He did this at the same time that I was about to ask for some champagne, so he beat me to the chase lol. We talked about shows that we liked and seriously, he was just the best way to end our night at this beautiful establishment. He is absolutely amazing!!! And speaking of BEAUTIFUL...there are no words for how eclectic and gorgeous this property is. The overall color theme seems to be gold-yellow with black and it truly works. There is such a cool, ecclectic, chill yet classy vibe here, and my hubby and I will definitely be back. We were greeted with a glass of champagne when we came and had a candy machine filled with yellow m&m's right outside the door of our room. We seriously are in love with The Enclave at Vendue and can't wait to come back.

Rat in room 251 of enclave, the Vendue hotel

Rodent in enclave room 251 night of 11/8/2024 (the Vendue hotel) My husband and I traveled to Charleston for the weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. We both love artwork and wanted to stay somewhere centralized so we chose the Vendue hotel. We paid over $700/night. The first night we stayed, we were relaxing in our room after dinner when we heard what sounded like bits of the ceiling crumbling and falling on the floor. My husband thought he saw a rodent at that time fall from the ceiling and dart under the bed but he couldn't be 100% sure. We looked around and didn't see anything suspicious so we tried to put it out of our minds and go to bed. Fast forward a few hours and we're both lying in bed unable to sleep. My husband shines a light on the area where the ceiling was crumbling and lo and behold there is a rodent. We immediately call the front desk. The hotel is completely full so there is no room to move us to. The night manager Nathan called a bunch of different hotels and every downtown hotel he called was full. At this point, it's 2am and we're in the lobby not knowing where we're going to sleep that night. (Happy birthday, husband!) Eventually Nathan gets us set up with a hotel in Mount Pleasant. We're relieved to go get some sleep finally but the whole point of staying at the Vendue was to be downtown, in walking distance of our perfume -making class, walking tour and SNOB reservation. We now how to drive and deal with parking or pay for Uber everywhere. Not ideal. Credit where credit is due: the artwork was fantastic, the rooftop bar was fun, and Nathan clearly felt bad for our situation and worked very hard to find us alternative accommodations. The Vendue gave us $100 voucher to eat at their restaurant which didn't appeal to us given everything we had seen. The general manager said they would refund our stay but so far we haven't received that yet.

Beautiful and original hotel. Welcome was awesome and they took care of everything. The room was also very nicely decorated, bougie style. The bathroom could have been better but was not bad at all. Art gallery was also very original and funny as well. The roof top restaurant was also excellent. I took a steak frite and it was excellent.

Fabulous location! Walk to anything & everything! We took advantage of all the fun offered except the bikes ( which we had hoped to but ran out of time) cookies & milk, wine hour, art walk with the curator-which was fascinating) port at bedtime ... yep SO much! Continental breakfast in a bag delivered each morning to our room. Bottled waters included when you asked. Service was exceptional! We were even lucky enough to be given $50 to use in the rooftop bar! We were across the street at 26Vendue which is quieter and perfect for us.

If anyone is looking for a short wedding reception venue, I highly recommend the Vendue hotel. This reception food was very very delicious, and they came out fairly quickly back to back. Lobster Bisque: There are no chunks of lobster, just blended in, which was kind of a disappointment, but it was really good. Crab Cake Remick: I liked this appetizer more, so I mooched it off of my boyfriend. If you're from Maryland, you would love this. Baseball Cut Sirloin: Very juicy meat, cooked perfectly medium rare, and the sauce was amazingly good. Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Pie: Great finish to the night. This hotel is conveniently located in downtown Charleston. There are many bars around it too. The only down side is that they kicked us out as soon as the allotted time was over. Overall, 9 out of 10.

    Rooftop bar

Great chic hotel in one of the most desirable areas downtown Charleston. The hotel has changed over the years and the most recent remodeling effort has taken away all of the historic features of this property which we found disappointing. That said, it does have a modern, chic vibe so if you're into that, this hotel is a great option. We are did have a problem with unpleasant odors in the halls and coming from the stairwell that made its way into our room during part of one of the days during our stay.

This may be a useless review because I never actually stayed here but the lobby itself made me feel like I just entered a free art museum. Def a fun stop just to be in awe and pretend you're in a Lady Gaga museum. The decorations alone make me want to book a room immediately.

On the site The Vendue and The Enclave are listed, and people mention the old side and the new side but I can't tell which is which. Which side is the 'old' side and which is the 'new'? What's the diff between the Vendue and the Enclave?

Does this hotel have a fitness center?

To my knowledge it did not. There wasn't a pool, hottub or fitness center that was identified when we checked in and I didn't see one as we walked through every level of the main building looking at the art pieces.

I'll be there in two weeks, but in the building across the street. Has anyone stayed in that building and would you recommend?

The Mills House is one of the truly classic Charleston hotels. It has gone through a lot of owners in its history. It has been an independent property, a Hyatt, a Wyndham and has had many other flags. Hilton has renovated it a bit but kept most of its eccentricities. The location on Meeting Street not far from King can't be beat. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food and drink are the main restaurant and bar, the Iron Rose, are good. The negatives include the plumbing. On two of the three days we were there over Christmas, the water in the shower was just lukewarm, and the water pressure came and went. The other main negative is the cost of parking, $60 a night. That's a Manhattan price, not what you'd expect in a mid-size Southern city. Still, we like the atmosphere and the history, so we'll stick with five stars.

There were a lots of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. They boast about their butler service, which is pretty unique in the United States (akin to the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean). We only stayed one night and did not make the most out of it. Our butler was very pleasant and offered detailed recommendations regarding restaurants in the area. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We arrived early and had to wait a few hours until our room was ready. That was a slight nuisance as it was a cold and rainy October weekend in Charleston. Luckily they had plenty of umbrellas for us to use. The welcome cocktails were a nice touch when we were finally able to check-in. Other nice touches include the complimentary drinks, candies and snacks that were already waiting in the room. The turndown service also included chocolate and a small sweet alcoholic drink / shot. Lastly, the included room service breakfast in the morning elevates the stay. A lot of good things. However, I thought the rooms themselves were just okay and a bit dated. Our friends stayed at a boutique hotel with vaulted ceilings and its own kitchenette for less money. Another disappointment was that we booked a room with a small outdoor courtyard, but were given a regular room. Given the weather, we probably wouldn't have used the outdoor space at all, but it would be good to get what you paid for. Overall very good service and location. They have a nice bar by the lobby that we did not make use of. The rooms themselves are just okay and on the small size. I would probably stay somewhere else next time I visit Charleston, even though I have nothing bad to say about The Spectator. Maybe my expectations were too high with a 4.8 / 5 average Yelp score. I just think there's better value elsewhere.

The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.
