We stayed in the enclave on the first floor. The rooms are nice but we faced a parking lot that was loud in the AM. After being out all day we came back to the hotel at 3pm to loud banging and drills going off so taking a nap before dinner wasn't an option. It was very frustrating. read more

Stayed in The Vendue Art Hotel from 3/30-4/2/26. We opted to stay at the updated Vendue and chose a premium king room for the extra square footage and the ceiling fan (if you know, you know). What I loved about the hotel was the quirkiness. I wouldn't want to live in a house with a pug head for a door knocker, but it was fun for a couple nights! The location was also prime - right on East Bay for a quick walk to Market or down towards the water for an evening stroll past the pineapple fountain. I also really appreciated the early morning delivery of a muffin and croissant -- it was so nice to get my bag of goodies off the door handle and enjoy them while watching the morning news or puttering about in my pajamas. Even with all these delights, there were some drawbacks. The first room we were taken to had one chair -- whereas the room description included a desk and chair. I didn't need to write a novel, but with one chair and two people I'm not sure where they intended for us to eat breakfast. We also happened to be there in the midst of their conversion from one art theme to the next. So there were no evening gallery receptions or talks about the artwork (one of the selling features for us). This was also a quirky hotel for accessibility. To get to our room we went up in the elevator, then down a hall, down about 5 stairs, through a fire door across a stairwell landing and through another fire door to our room (one of two on our floor). I know that this would have been a difficult trek for my older parents, especially with luggage. Bottom line, it's a cute little hotel with a lot going for it. I might even stay there again the next time I'm in Charleston. read more

Southern hospitality + customer experience. Is the true highlight of this trip. Both Cameron and Virginia were amazing to work with. They helped me set up to have champagne and rose petals in my room for my wife. It was truly a magical experience. This is an old building so we could hear a lot of people in other rooms at night. But the location, service, and aumbiance out weight any slight negatives. We were welcomed with warm brownies and a glass of champagne. So there are two iterations of this hotel: the traditional vendue, which is modern, bright, and young, as well as the enclave, which is the newer, renovated rendition, quieter, more refined. I stayed at the traditional vendue in the premier king. I loved the quirky, artsy lobby, full of red velvet chairs, quirky modern art, and bright, sparkly paintings. The door-folk and staff are extremely informative and helpful. The lobby is welcoming and plush. Lots to look at, multiple chessboards to have fun with. My room was on the first floor, which was a bit of a pain, but it had all that I wanted, which was a soft, comfy bed and a good tub. Yes, the first night it took a while for the water to warm up and I had to let it run a few minutes to clear up (yes, it started out brown), but that's a known thing with older buildings. The clawfoot tub was great, really. I had a super warm, glowing fireplace. The robes really are one size fits all (I'm a curvy woman it was super comfy). And the bed was indeed superb. Housekeeping was amazing. Left a French breakfast hanging on our door each morning (croissants, butter, jam, fruit). Left cakes in our room each evening and turned down the beds. Even though I didn't leave the room until 10-ish, housekeeping still tidied up my room. There is a bit of a grandma smell, but that's okay. You get used to it. Location is perfect. Right next to the water, by the parks, near tons of attractions and restaurants. They also have a rooftop bar. The views aren't great, but love the vibe and the breeze. I paid about 1100 dollars for three nights. There are cheaper options, but not with the locations or amenities. read more

Oh so pretty, and filled with beautiful and funky art. We ate on the rooftop, and food was good. Water view of course. A little on the expensive side, but worth it. Be sure you explore the entire area for the fun vide and artwork. It reminds me of the 21C Museum and Hotel chain. Didn't actually stay here, so can't comment on rooms. But I'm betting they're cool. Great hotel! We stayed at the Enclave at the Vendue Hotel for two nights. Check-in was smooth, and booking through their website got us some tickets for free drinks, a discount at their affiliated restaurants, and a late checkout at 2 PM. The hotel is filled with quirky art pieces. Our room was comfortable and had a spacious shower with good temperature control. They gave us a small bagged breakfast each morning, and there were snacks out in the lobby throughout the day and evening. Overall, we had a great stay at the Enclave, and I would recommend them for your stay in Charleston. read more

We stayed at this hotel for Labor Day weekend on our first trip to Charleston. The hotel itself is beautiful inside, small but in a French artsy motif. It is located in a great spot, near everything you may want to see in Charleston. No lack of restaurants or shopping in the area all within walking distance. A few things I would forewarn though is that you can pretty much hear anything and everyone from your room. The walls are super thin. It's dimly lit as we only had two lamps to light the entire room so it's very difficult to see what's in your suitcase and in my room in particular the air conditioner is very loud to the point if you're watching TV you may have to blast it a bit. However it was a beautiful room...mine was a bit small and no view so pay a little extra for a top floor room that faces the street. For the price on Labor Day I thought it was reasonable but I would probably stay somewhere else if I came back just to compare There is no pool or fitness center as it is a boutique hotel. They deliver a bag of pastries every morning which is kinda nice and always have free coffee and some additional pastries available all day. We enjoyed it but I can't give it 5 stars because of the other things I mentioned. Charleston is a great town and very expensive so make sure you're aware of that! read more

Sara and Nicholas!!!!! They made this place absolutely even MORE phenomenal than it already is. Sara has this beautiful, bright and bubbly energy that just fills the whole room and makes you feel so welcomed! Her laugh is infectious and I could have just talked to her all day. My hubby had to remind dad me that we had dinner plans, otherwise I would have been perfectly happy talking to Sara and laughing. Another thing that was so impressive and showed that Sara is this way with everyone is that a woman who also works here, I think she may be some sort of manager, stopped into Sara's area just to tell her how much she appreciates her beautiful laugh and energy. It's one thing to come from a client, but it's even more amazing when other coworkers have to compliment you as well. Nicholas is SO frickin cute and he has the best, most fun personality! When I sat on the couch he said, "Gee, your hand looks so empty," as if to say that I needed some champagne to fill it LOL! I LOVE HIM! He did this at the same time that I was about to ask for some champagne, so he beat me to the chase lol. We talked about shows that we liked and seriously, he was just the best way to end our night at this beautiful establishment. He is absolutely amazing!!! And speaking of BEAUTIFUL...there are no words for how eclectic and gorgeous this property is. The overall color theme seems to be gold-yellow with black and it truly works. There is such a cool, ecclectic, chill yet classy vibe here, and my hubby and I will definitely be back. We were greeted with a glass of champagne when we came and had a candy machine filled with yellow m&m's right outside the door of our room. This is hotel is very good looking and no doubt was conceived with instagram in mind. However the majority of the price you pay, funds the fantastic art gallery and the plethora of staff milling about in said galley; Rather than the slightly tired room you'll actually spend most of your time in. Simple amenities like a fridge were missing and my room was so bad for acoustic isolation that I was woken up several times in the night by neighbors flushing their toilets. There are attempts to match their piers, like a cookie turn down service and a mini breakfast snack, but the macarons were inedible soap and the confiture was missing. Most of the staff are great, but there are a few grumpy old gits that spoil the tone. Fun, but only once. Enjoy the art and rooftop bar... No need to stay. read more

Rodent in enclave room 251 night of 11/8/2024 (the Vendue hotel) My husband and I traveled to Charleston for the weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. We both love artwork and wanted to stay somewhere centralized so we chose the Vendue hotel. We paid over $700/night. The first night we stayed, we were relaxing in our room after dinner when we heard what sounded like bits of the ceiling crumbling and falling on the floor. My husband thought he saw a rodent at that time fall from the ceiling and dart under the bed but he couldn't be 100% sure. We looked around and didn't see anything suspicious so we tried to put it out of our minds and go to bed. Fast forward a few hours and we're both lying in bed unable to sleep. My husband shines a light on the area where the ceiling was crumbling and lo and behold there is a rodent. We immediately call the front desk. The hotel is completely full so there is no room to move us to. The night manager Nathan called a bunch of different hotels and every downtown hotel he called was full. At this point, it's 2am and we're in the lobby not knowing where we're going to sleep that night. (Happy birthday, husband!) Eventually Nathan gets us set up with a hotel in Mount Pleasant. We're relieved to go get some sleep finally but the whole point of staying at the Vendue was to be downtown, in walking distance of our perfume -making class, walking tour and SNOB reservation. We now how to drive and deal with parking or pay for Uber everywhere. Not ideal. Credit where credit is due: the artwork was fantastic, the rooftop bar was fun, and Nathan clearly felt bad for our situation and worked very hard to find us alternative accommodations. The Vendue gave us $100 voucher to eat at their restaurant which didn't appeal to us given everything we had seen. The general manager said they would refund our stay but so far we haven't received that yet. read more

If anyone is looking for a short wedding reception venue, I highly recommend the Vendue hotel. This reception food was very very delicious, and they came out fairly quickly back to back. Lobster Bisque: There are no chunks of lobster, just blended in, which was kind of a disappointment, but it was really good. Crab Cake Remick: I liked this appetizer more, so I mooched it off of my boyfriend. If you're from Maryland, you would love this. Baseball Cut Sirloin: Very juicy meat, cooked perfectly medium rare, and the sauce was amazingly good. Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Pie: Great finish to the night. This hotel is conveniently located in downtown Charleston. There are many bars around it too. The only down side is that they kicked us out as soon as the allotted time was over. What a wonderful hotel. I really haven't had service this great at a hotel in forever. From the various miscellaneous snacks and drinks given out at all times, to the breakfast left at our door, to the wildly friendly and accommodating staff, this was truly great. We even borrowed bikes from the hotel, which was a ton of fun. The room itself was very clean, too, and the location is impeccable. The only downside I would say is that the hotel itself was quite pricey for the quality of the rooms themselves. Our "interior room" had no windows and was very small, which had a bit of a claustrophobic feel to it. Strongly recommend this hotel, thank you again! read more

I will share that my room was well appointed and located in the property across the street from the main hotel; it was great. The property was quiet which is very important to me. I never have my room serviced during any stay as I'm usually busy recovering ; ) I did think it was awesome that each morning I had toiletries provided and a bag of breakfast treats! The only reason I could not give the hotel 5 stars is simply because at 3AM I had to use the restroom. I turned on the lights in the water closet and encountered a cockroach party. No lie! I did share it with the front desk after checkout as I did not want anything other than for them to ensure no other guest should experience the same! Reality is climate dictates this kind of experience but maintenance also would have prevented this unfortunate scenario. Net Net this was the only poor experience of my stay. Lastly, the rooftop bars, there are two, both are ok. They do not match the interior of the hotel and lack the same feel as the main lobby however it's worth a visit. read more

Great location with easy walk to restaurants and city market. No need for a car at this location. Valet parking will be $50.00 daily which is standard in this area. Rooms were clean and unique. Wine at check in and with free art tour by Melissa who is the curator. Tour is a must. She explains the art/ artists in some detail and points out things that you are likely to miss in the installments. We did a 3 night summer stay and received 2 drink tickets to the roof top bar and a $100 dining/drink credit. Ate at their Revoval restaurant. Great wait staff and ambience. Food was okay. Charred okra was a little hard, she crab soup was under seasoned, and Pirlou was somewhat mushy. Wife had Halibut which she states was very good. There is no check in desk, look for the well dressed managers that are usually in the lobby, waiting to check you in electronically. Over all, I would definitely stay at the Vendue again and give their restaurant another try. Did I mention macaroons left nightly in our rooms ,nightly milk and cookies in the lobby,and morning bag of fruit,croissants, and muffins hung on our door knob each morning? Would like to see a variety of morning offerings though. read more

Wish I had booked another hotel, the worst issue is that they don't take security seriously here (our room was left ajar for who knows how long after house cleaning visited). My friend and I checked in separately, he had a much different experience than I. When I went to check in there wasn't anyone in the lobby. They don't have a check in desk so you just have to wander around and find someone. After 5/10 minutes no one showed up, so we just figured we'd come back. Came back to two men who were maybe hotels workers chatting with each other. They kept chatting while we waiting and eventually helped us but for sure made it seem like we were bothering him. My friend got offered sparking wine at check in, I didn't. We were also on the ground floor, I wish I knew to request NOT being on the ground floor. It was so loud right outside our window. Later that evening we went back for cookie hour at 9pm, saw one of the same guys there and went to grab a cookie. The guy harshly said "these are for across the street" and walked away from us. Thank goodness for the nice doorman, who was super helpful and kind. He's basically the reason they are getting 2 stars instead of 1. Anyway on our second to last day we returned to our rooms at around 4pm after a day of exploring. We noticed our door propped open, so we figured house cleaning was happening then. Nope. No one was inside. Our door was just open, for anyone to enter all day. Thankfully none of our stuff was stolen, but left me feeling very unsettled. All in all, would not recommend due to not caring about security and rude check in folks. read more

We booked the premier king room and there was a promo at the time which included free valet parking. Our room was in the main building and was quite large and comfortable. The most unique feature was the old floors. They are not quite level. The staff was friendly and helpful and our room was cleaned daily. They did forget to leave shortbread cookies in our room but when we learned about it, they promptly provided 2 bags. In the morning, there is coffee, 3 kinds of muffins, croissants, jam, and fruit. The muffins were great. In the afternoon, there is an art tour and wine reception. Each night at 9pm, you can go down for cookies and milk. These were nice touches. The art in the hotel is weird but the paintings by the resident artist at the time were quite nice. Overall, I would say it was a a great stay & perfect location and a good value. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. They will be doing some remodeling next year. read more

My wallet and phone are always causing problems with hotel keys. Luckily, at The Vendue, they still use metal keys! It was awesome. - - - The check in service was kind and speedy. The bellhop was at the vehicle before I even got out. The bags were loaded quickly and efficiently. There are lots of stone steps that the bellhop carries the carts up and down. Makes one feel a little bad for them. It also makes the commute from check in to the room a bit longer. Help the bellhop open the door - - - The Continental Breakfast was very nice every morning. They had plenty of regular and decaf coffee along with some very tasty yogurt in mason jars. Other than hard boiled eggs, everything was pastry/bread related. - - - The room was nice and comfortable with lots of neat little amenities like brandy, local sweet treats, and a couple chocolates every night. My room was just off the side of the main staircase area and I could clearly hear every person that walked into the building. That was a little annoying, especially on the first night when I was jet lagged and hit the hay a little early. It also felt like any conversations I had on the phone in my room were far from private. But I wasn't there for the room and I spent most of my time out and about in a very walkable Charleston. - - - The hotel is situated right at the start of the downtown battery which means I was a 100 foot walk from the river, a pier, and two miles of sidewalk to run on. I chose the hotel mainly for that purpose and caught two amazing sunrises as I ran in the mornings. It was a quiet, French Quarter Hotel that I would definitely recommend. read more

The Vendue is an overall terrific place to stay. Interior and exterior based rooms to choose from, the place screams character. The structure is like many others in the city, older and having its usual age based flaws. I have never stayed in a perfect hotel so I do not look for perfection. The bed and pillows are comfortable. We stayed in room 158, an interior room and found it to be quite nice. The morning brought the bag of breakfast goodies hanging in the door knob: bananas, apples, croissants and jam. A nice touch to eat a solid breakfast and save money and time if that is to your liking. The Vendue has two locations, situated across the street from one another. Read up on it through their website, which is excellent. The shower seems like the pressure will be weak but it was fine. Replacing the shower head or a good soaking cleaning would loosen the build up and improve the flow. The baseboard in the bathroom needs to be addressed. It is the first thing you notice as you walk in. Water damage appears to be the issue but replacing a baseboard and quarter round is quick and simple. That's about it for the flaws. The Vendue is a visual delight with many perks like a great rooftop bar and complimentary wine and cookie time each late afternoon and evening. The staff is genuinely friendly, responsive and energetic. They corresponded via text a few days prior to see if any assistance is needed for absolutely anything you can think of. Management should be proud of how the whole crew works together to provide a great experience. The location is simply the best - you can save money and walk to so much very easily. The place is very cool. It has art in the lobby with an art tour every day. The decor is fantastic. There's an interesting wine cocktail event every day at four. Occasion is great. The breakfast is me and not well done they don't even give you sufficient napkins for the continental breakfast that is placed on your door knob. You have to ask for enough milk for a cup of coffee. This is my second stay here. 1st time was mid Dec 2022 and then again last evening. I just absolutely love this hotel. I think the welcome is warm - with the valet being quick and helpful, the desk explaining the hotel (or in this case welcoming me back), the room service was lovely, the morning breakfast they leave on your door is just a perfect nibble to get you through till checkout. The room I had was spacious, clean, had nice amenities and a nod to Charleston and French Quarter. Location - perfection. Close to the water and close to the restaurants and bars but far enough away that it isn't loud in the streets! Looking forward to my next stay in May for a girlfriends getaway! read more

I was very unhappy with my stay. Not only was the first provided a room with no windows, but the 2nd room they changed me to after I complained was dirty. The shower had the last guests hair and they obviously rushed to clean it. The hotel is super loud, do not stay here if you want a restful night of sleep. My friends and I were visiting from out of town and attempting to eat at "the Rooftop" my 3 friends, 1 of which was IN A WHEELCHAIR , were callously told the elevator was out of order and that we would need to take the stairs to the FOURTH floor My friends and I walked up slowly while my friend painfully used her cane to get all the way to the 4th floor. We missed food at Rooftop (who's service was also questionable) but were told that the service elevator would take us down to the main floor, the SAME elevator my other friend found but we were told was out of service. We literally WALKED PAST the lady who told us it was out of service. (beautiful girl with braids and a gray suit) I didnt want to make a scene in front of my friend, she just moved to town, but i will be calling tomorrow to let them know they need to up their service and sensitivity training read more

This hotel is very old and not up kept very well. The lobby has been redone, but our room was terribly in need of some love. The room appeared clean. The decor nothing to write home about. The hotel is set up rather oddly, the guest elevator is somewhat hidden and appears like it's a service elevator. At these prices you except more given to the details. The roof top bar was nice, although we tried to order food and though they said they were at capacity there were several tables open. We had drinks and asked the waitress to order a late lunch about 2:30pm. She said she had to go get something to write with and 20 minutes later finally came back. We were starving, so we had already made our mind up to leave since it was taking too long to even place the order. That took another 7 minutes to get the check. They did a good job at the hotel with new Covid restrictions. I liked the art work in the lobby. Also, they have free wine and also free coffee in the morning which was nice, but finding someone to pour either was a challenge. read more
