I recently had the pleasure of staying at Zero George. The property is so charming and the location is right in the heart of the town. Marc, the concierge manager took great care of me. The property has so many lovely areas to sit and enjoy a beautiful day. They have a yummy breakfast buffet in the morning and they have a cheese and wine happy hour. I loved my room in the main building at Zero George. The bed and pillows were plush and comfortable. Turn down service brought us water and a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie as a treat. I would certainly return and bring my family for a visit.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights to celebrate our 1-year wedding anniversary and it was a wonderful experience! When we arrived, they surprised us with a bottle of champagne in our room and a hand-written Happy Anniversary note. We stayed in the Veranda King which was a great size and very charming. Amazing shower and amenities. Cozy robe and cozy bed! Breakfast was delicious!! I loved having my cold brew and waffle topped with berries every morning on the porch. And wine and cheese happy hour was such a nice touch. Overall it was expensive but not outrageous, and completely worth every penny. As far as Covid precautions go, Zero George did everything to ensure a safe experience. All staff wore masks, breakfast was delivered to your door, as was the wine and cheese. Valet wore masks and gloves while handling vehicles. If you're looking for a luxurious (and safe) weekend, Zero George is the place!

Traveling anywhere else will never be as good. Zero george has elevated our expectations of hospitality. Each staff member is kind, helpful, attentive and knowledgeable. Miles, Martim & Alexandra were beyond accommodating! I wanted mint tea so Martim jumped on a bike to go get me some, miles had my cocktail waiting for dinner, and Alexandra gave great advice on where to go. If you are looking for exceptional customer service, beautiful decor & southern charm you need to stay here! Thank you Zero George team for everything!

There's a lot features about this property I enjoyed but I would not consider this a 5 star luxury hotel. This falls more into the category of an upscale bed & breakfast. The property is very charming and quaint with a lovely and professional staff. Would definitely stay here again however the price of the room per night would have to be lower to consider staying here as what you get does not exactly equal what you pay. Pros: - very comfortable beds and pillows - complimentary waters and spindrift flavored sparkling in the fridge. - nespresso machine in the room - air conditioning unit worked very well in the heat of the summer - dimmable light switches in bedroom & bathroom - complimentary wine and cheese hour between 5pm-6pm - turndown service with chocolates - white noise machine in the room - ceiling fan - bathrobes and slippers - candle gifted upon arrival, as well as a luggage tag gifted upon departure - plenty of places to sit and lounge outdoors on the property Cons: - no elevators so be ready to carry your luggage upstairs. For a 5 star hotel they should really have a bellman that assists with this but they do not. - very small TV in the room with limited channels - the complimentary "euro" breakfast was ridiculously carb heavy. They literally had every bread option available (croissants, muffins, bagels, toast, pastries, etc). There were small bowls of fresh berries, yogurt, granola, as well as warm ham and cheese sandwiches (no vegetarian option for this). They did have a meat and non-meat quiche available but it is upon request only. This breakfast really needed some more "warm" food options like eggs, potatoes, or breakfast meats. Mimosas and bloody Mary's were available upon request. - some of the rooms are ridiculously tiny so beware when you're booking as to which size room you choose. - the buildings are obviously older so you can very easily hear lots of noise from the hallway as well as the guests in the room above you walking. They provide earplugs at turn down service as well as a white noise machine in the room because I assume they get so many noise complaints. If you are a light sleeper, consider requesting a room on the top floor or staying elsewhere.

Although it wasn't cabana season or warm enough to get into the pool, the cabana room was really nice and clean. I thought the room was just so cute and loved how the entire hotel was decorated. I was still able to enjoy a couple hours sitting out in the sun by the pool during my stay. They offered an hour of complimentary champagne in the late afternoon which was a nice touch. The hotel has a nice cafe and restaurant attached so you don't have to go far to find some food and coffee. I definitely recommend this hotel and enjoyed our brief time there.

The Mills House is one of the truly classic Charleston hotels. It has gone through a lot of owners in its history. It has been an independent property, a Hyatt, a Wyndham and has had many other flags. Hilton has renovated it a bit but kept most of its eccentricities. The location on Meeting Street not far from King can't be beat. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food and drink are the main restaurant and bar, the Iron Rose, are good. The negatives include the plumbing. On two of the three days we were there over Christmas, the water in the shower was just lukewarm, and the water pressure came and went. The other main negative is the cost of parking, $60 a night. That's a Manhattan price, not what you'd expect in a mid-size Southern city. Still, we like the atmosphere and the history, so we'll stick with five stars.

There were a lots of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance. They boast about their butler service, which is pretty unique in the United States (akin to the resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean). We only stayed one night and did not make the most out of it. Our butler was very pleasant and offered detailed recommendations regarding restaurants in the area. The staff is welcoming and friendly. We arrived early and had to wait a few hours until our room was ready. That was a slight nuisance as it was a cold and rainy October weekend in Charleston. Luckily they had plenty of umbrellas for us to use. The welcome cocktails were a nice touch when we were finally able to check-in. Other nice touches include the complimentary drinks, candies and snacks that were already waiting in the room. The turndown service also included chocolate and a small sweet alcoholic drink / shot. Lastly, the included room service breakfast in the morning elevates the stay. A lot of good things. However, I thought the rooms themselves were just okay and a bit dated. Our friends stayed at a boutique hotel with vaulted ceilings and its own kitchenette for less money. Another disappointment was that we booked a room with a small outdoor courtyard, but were given a regular room. Given the weather, we probably wouldn't have used the outdoor space at all, but it would be good to get what you paid for. Overall very good service and location. They have a nice bar by the lobby that we did not make use of. The rooms themselves are just okay and on the small size. I would probably stay somewhere else next time I visit Charleston, even though I have nothing bad to say about The Spectator. Maybe my expectations were too high with a 4.8 / 5 average Yelp score. I just think there's better value elsewhere.

You're only as strong as your weakest link…read more I've stayed in many hotels for both work and personal travel. The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.
