This is easily one of my favorite stays globally and a place I will be talking about for a long time. Restaurant and food The food was phenomenal, striking the perfect balance between incredible flavor and artistic presentation. Every dish that came to the table looked like a work of art, with thoughtful plating that made you pause for a moment just to take it in before tasting. The A5 Wagyu was especially delicious...rich, tender, and cooked perfectly, it stood out even in an already exceptional meal. Overall, there was a clear sense of creativity and care in the menu, both in taste and in how beautifully everything was displayed. Service at the restaurant Service at the restaurant matched the quality of the food in every way. My server was knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu, offering helpful explanations and recommendations without ever feeling intrusive. They answered questions with confidence, guided the experience smoothly, and added to the sense that this was a very special evening. Their kindness and professionalism helped make the meal feel both elevated and relaxed at the same time. Hotel atmosphere and vibe The hotel itself felt like stepping into another era, a transport back to colonial history with a stylish, intimate twist. The architecture, details, and ambiance created a mood that I can only describe as "vampires and vintage," in the best possible way: romantic, slightly mysterious, and full of character. Walking through the property felt like moving through a beautifully preserved piece of history, but with all the comfort and luxury of a modern boutique stay. I was beyond thrilled by how immersive and unique the atmosphere was. Concierge and overall stay The concierge went above and beyond to elevate the stay even further. Their recommendations for tourist attractions, local spots, and things to do around the city were thoughtful, personalized, and spot on, making it easy to get the most out of the trip. Every interaction with the staff, from the front desk to the restaurant, reinforced the feeling that they truly cared about my experience. I recently had the pleasure of staying at Zero George. The property is so charming and the location is right in the heart of the town. Marc, the concierge manager took great care of me. The property has so many lovely areas to sit and enjoy a beautiful day. They have a yummy breakfast buffet in the morning and they have a cheese and wine happy hour. I loved my room in the main building at Zero George. The bed and pillows were plush and comfortable. Turn down service brought us water and a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie as a treat. Zero George is a collection of three historic Charleston homes dating to 1804, meticulously restored into sixteen guest rooms. It's really the best way to enjoy the true Charleston experience. The price is steep for such small rooms. But you're paying for the classic local vibe in the most elegant boutique hotel in town, something far beyond the impersonal hospitality chains. The hotel is known for the food. You'll design your own breakfast each morning which is brought to the room. ORDER THE GRANOLA! I'm not even a granola person and I have to admit that this house-made version is amazing! Plump raisins, hearty oats, just the right amount of cinnamon. Wow! After a relaxing breakfast, you'll emerge from the beautiful courtyard through the main gate each day to explore Charleston. The service is excellent. My husband and I stayed here for three nights to celebrate our 1-year wedding anniversary and it was a wonderful experience! When we arrived, they surprised us with a bottle of champagne in our room and a hand-written Happy Anniversary note. We stayed in the Veranda King which was a great size and very charming. Amazing shower and amenities. Cozy robe and cozy bed! Breakfast was delicious!! I loved having my cold brew and waffle topped with berries every morning on the porch. And wine and cheese happy hour was such a nice touch. Overall it was expensive but not outrageous, and completely worth every penny. As far as Covid precautions go, Zero George did everything to ensure a safe experience. All staff wore masks, breakfast was delivered to your door, as was the wine and cheese. Just back from my second stay at Zero George in Charleston SC. I cannot say enough about it. I was traveling alone and felt completely comfortable and well cared for. Marc, the Concierge, always goes out of his way to make sure I have everything I need. My room was so comfortable, clean, and lovely. The cheese board and wine each afternoon were a welcome respite from the days activities. The Inn is located in my favorite part of town - I can walk everywhere, and yet it's just a bit out of the fray and feels like an oasis. I cannot imagine a more hospitable place to stay. Stay here! If you come to Charleston and don't stay at Zero George, you are missing out. There are so many little things they do everyday to make every guest feel special and cared for, it makes you grateful for the opportunity to stay here. The rooms are gorgeous and come with unexpected delightful details like the complimentary chilled cabinet stocked with glass bottled water, sparking juice, and creamer. Also great were the complimentary bikes and the turn down service every-night with fresh cookies and ice water. I can't say enough about the staff, everyone was so lovely... hands down the best hotel service I have ever experienced. Here are a few of the things I loved; Personalized texts before my arrival to make sure they were prepared for my arrival, every staff member was happy and engaging, many different recommendations on how I could further enjoy the property, and overall unparalleled customer service. Write up CAUTION. I have never given this poor of a review. We were celebrating a 50th Bday and had ordered champagne prior to dinner. I told the Sommelier $150 was too much and I asked for the $68 bottle. At dinner once seated, the sommelier suggested we don't pay the $100 wine paring since we had 8 people and he said we could do better ordering our own bottles. We agreed and told him we would let him guide us with wine. Unfortunately, we had trust and obviously we were naive. At the end of dinner a dark cloud was quickly given to our group when the bill arrived. The sommelier's selections included 2 bottles at $1300 and 1 bottle $2750. The bill was over $7200. No one including upper management has any sympathy or resolution. I've been to French Laundry, Berns, Michelin restaurants in Paris, London, Madrid, Dublin, etc. Zero George was THE MOST EXPENSIVE I've had on this planet. The financial burden added a dark cloud to our trip. Sommeliers have a due diligence to guide and discuss costs with patrons. Thank goodness he did not have a $50k bottle. I feel the situation was simply unethical and this young sommelier taught all 8 of a a brutal lesson in trust. I will not return. Needless to say we were very upset. They did not. Are that evening nor did I receive a response from the general email after an email describing the situation. It sounds like this has happened before after reading these posts. read more

I have waited 2 months to write this review, trying to find adjectives that don't even exist to describe this hotel, the service and the wonderful experience we had there. My parents and I sat on the porch one evening comparing this hotel to places we've stayed all over the country, in Paris and London, Spain and Bermuda, etc. and none compared to Zero George. It is a completely unique hotel experience. I wouldn't even know where to start in raving about this hotel. The staff were on hand to make sure everything was perfect, yet they were somehow invisible, making the environment seem very private. The food at the breakfast was simple and outstanding and I think anything more than what we had would be ridiculous. The rooms were beautiful and every last detail was thought out. Beautiful linens, robes and slippers. Toiletries. View. Top to bottom, wall to wall, perfection. It's not every day you enter a luxury hotel through the kitchen, but that's sort of how it is at Zero George. It contributes to the authenticity of the property and its history, but the kitchen itself is a marvel. You wonder, how does food for such a renowned chef and restaurant come out of this incredibly small but efficient kitchen? You have to see it to believe it. To have even a drink or tea or simple meal there is to go to Le Crueset heaven. This was a special trip for my parents' anniversary and though we were very eager to explore beautiful Charleston, the truth is we were hard-pressed to leave the hotel each day and could barely bring ourselves to leave at the end of the day. There's a lot features about this property I enjoyed but I would not consider this a 5 star luxury hotel. This falls more into the category of an upscale bed & breakfast. The property is very charming and quaint with a lovely and professional staff. Would definitely stay here again however the price of the room per night would have to be lower to consider staying here as what you get does not exactly equal what you pay. Pros: - very comfortable beds and pillows - complimentary waters and spindrift flavored sparkling in the fridge. - nespresso machine in the room - air conditioning unit worked very well in the heat of the summer - dimmable light switches in bedroom & bathroom - complimentary wine and cheese hour between 5pm-6pm - turndown service with chocolates - white noise machine in the room - ceiling fan - bathrobes and slippers - candle gifted upon arrival, as well as a luggage tag gifted upon departure - plenty of places to sit and lounge outdoors on the property Cons: - no elevators so be ready to carry your luggage upstairs. For a 5 star hotel they should really have a bellman that assists with this but they do not. - very small TV in the room with limited channels - the complimentary "euro" breakfast was ridiculously carb heavy. They literally had every bread option available (croissants, muffins, bagels, toast, pastries, etc). There were small bowls of fresh berries, yogurt, granola, as well as warm ham and cheese sandwiches (no vegetarian option for this). They did have a meat and non-meat quiche available but it is upon request only. This breakfast really needed some more "warm" food options like eggs, potatoes, or breakfast meats. Mimosas and bloody Mary's were available upon request. - some of the rooms are ridiculously tiny so beware when you're booking as to which size room you choose. - the buildings are obviously older so you can very easily hear lots of noise from the hallway as well as the guests in the room above you walking. They provide earplugs at turn down service as well as a white noise machine in the room because I assume they get so many noise complaints. If you are a light sleeper, consider requesting a room on the top floor or staying elsewhere. read more

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. It was disappointing, and I frankly do not understand the high ratings. We could not watch anything in our room, as the TV wasn't working. It seems they have consistent issues with their DirectTV. We paid up to $700 a *night* and couldn't watch anything. The TV wasn't Netflix-enabled either. It was just shocking to me that we could be paying so much without access to a functioning TV. The room was quite small. The bathroom was okay. The staff were kind but there was a touch of chaos and confusion in the air. They almost seem surprised to be in their jobs? Or overwhelmed? We chose Zero George because we wanted a special experience. Nothing about our experience at felt particularly special--not our breakfasts, our rooms or the service. It is startling to realize that even basic Airbnbs I've stayed in have been much more modern and comfortable than Zero George. Giving 2 stars because the bed was comfortable and it is a beautiful building / structure. I hate to leave a negative review, but it's a very expensive hotel and I feel that it's a bit of a rip-off. Has a great happy hour, where the bartender was nice enough to make me a virgin concoction since I don't drink. They have tastings available to try and ordered the tuna tartare and lobster roll [it's not what you'd expect it to look, but very flavorful]. I hear they're amazing for dinner too, next time we come back, we'll definitely try it. The wife and I decided to take some time away from suburban life and spend the weekend downtown in our own city. We have traveled a good amount, both domestic and international, and stayed at a number of top-end hotels over the years. Honestly the experience we had zero George is tied for one of the top three ever. The property is gorgeous. A stunning restoration of a timeless Charleston compound. Updated just enough to be comfortable for the modern-day traveler. We stayed in the king suite, which had a striking fireplace, beautiful bath and vanity, and the best view in the house on the full length veranda. But to me, what distinguishes an exceptional lodging experience is the people. Every member of the staff blew us away with their level of friendly professionalism. It was evident that the quality of our stay was their top priority. The front of house staff was incredible. Alexandra and Alexis were so excited to make our stay perfect. And they were successful beyond our expectations. The little touches that are offered at Zero George really are extraordinary and make it hard to leave. Embroidered bathrobes and slippers, self serve espresso on demand, on site happy hour, and a homemade breakfast that rivals nearby restaurants. I only wish we had more time to stay longer. Zero George is the best I have ever stayed at in Charleston and I can think of nowhere better to base your visit to our fine city. Truly the best Charleston has to offer. I stayed here a couple weeks ago, and I must say I was quite impressed. I've stayed at several luxury hotels all over the US, but Zero George is truly unique. It's perfect for a romantic getaway, because it's a cozy spot. It has old southern charm, with fresh modern decor. It's remodeled from an old estate, and it seems that they are trying to preserve its history. It's a new hotel, so you must take it for what it is. If you're looking for pools, spas, or family fun: this place isn't for you. It's beautifully simple and I found myself extremely comfortable and relaxed the entire time. The atmosphere and friendly staff truly made me feel at home. The most important luxury: LOCATION. You can literally walk to all of the best restaurants and shops, and the staff gave EXCELLENT recommendations! (I lost weight on vacation from all the walking, WHAT?!) for the nights we got fancy or it was raining, it was a quick/cheap cab ride to King Street. A side note: One building is still being remodeled and there is construction across the street, however the patios face the opposite direction so it wasn't a problem for me. It's still pretty quiet. The queen room was tight for me and my partner, I will definitely stay in the King Suite next time. (We're both small, like I said, the rooms were built in a different era!) But the suite had plenty of storage for our stuff, which was great! In conclusion, I simply can't wait to visit again, I almost shed a tear when the cab pulled up to whisk me away back to Arizona, I didn't want to leave! I'm sure as they grow it will only get better. My criticisms: There are small Keurig's in the closets, but it's impossible to use in it's cubby. I had to pull it out and place it on the desk to fill it with water, and it took a while to heat up. I ended up ditching it for the amazing machine in the lobby for my morning cocoa. Also my air conditioner was held together by a BAND-AID! Lol. I'm sure it was unused, and I laughed when I saw it, but you guys should look into getting a more permanent fix. read more

I would like to give this place five stars because of the environment ambience and the staff but they only receive four stores from me because the food while interesting didn't really wowed me. Went with a couple for their anniversary and it was their treat. And while I'm not usually very price conscious I will say that the bill being close to $600 for four people seemed pricey for the offerings. We did get the upgraded wine selection but all I can say is I left there a little hungry and I wanted some more damn wine ha ha if you've never been it's a nice romantic spot and the wait staff all were wearing masks, Granted we went in early June before it was required so I was happy to see them taking the proper precautions. I stopped in here with a couple of girlfriends after work for some small bites and a couple drinks. The ambiance is very quaint- it's like a modern southern kind of vibe. Everything is clean and pristine and the courtyard area is gorgeous. (It's pretty pricy considering the small portions so I would be aware of that before deciding on having a full out dinner.) The staff was great and our server was nice, attentive and had a good sense of humor with us, he also set us up with the concierge to show us a tour of the place after we inquired. They have an affiliation to a vineyard in Charlottesville va that I love (fond memories since I went to school at UVA) and are a sister company to Cannon Greeen, the event space and restaurant... Fun facts! As you can see the ambiance, the presentation and the set up is lovely, great spot for a date, drinks with the girls, or a stay cation. It is so homey and charming yet has a lot of the modern amenities one would expect from a luxury hotel (Malin & Goetz toiletries, Nespresso machine artfully tucked into a cabinet, wine and cheese hour, bikes for free rental, etc.). We were greeted and said goodbye to with a handwritten note, and most of the staff members were so friendly and helpful. We were tempted to eat at their fancy restaurant, which looked fantastic and certainly had convenience in its favor, but opted instead for all the local food in Charleston. The breakfast spread includes biscuits from Callie's Hot Little Biscuit (which was great because that was on my list of places to check out), salmon and prosciutto with cheese and crostini, berries, Greek yogurt, housemade granola, and hard boiled eggs. We made last minute reservations and stayed in the Residences for 5 days - though the decor of the Residences are not as beautiful as in a hotel room, it was spacious, large bathroom and a very comfortable bed. AC was excellent - needed in Charleston and QUIET! They have a fantastic breakfast for guests everyday, managed by a smiling and accommodating young man - sorry I did not get his name. He's fantastic to all the guests! The breakfasts are fresh fruit, fresh pastries , cheese, yogurt and homemade granola, a few other choices and more than enough to start you day. Afternoons are greeted with a glass of wine and an excellent charcuterie board. Each day we would have our breakfast in a small beautiful courtyard. The main reason to stay here? The staff! They are par excellence. The concierge staff, especially Ellie and Ashlyn are without doubt among the best in the business! These two ladies made our stay exceptional. Thank you. Needing a place to stay in Charleston for a short weekend getaway and anniversary trip, we picked Zero George. It is definitely a charming little hotel, with great access to most of Charleston. However, the location might belie perfection. A relatively new property that seemed like a renovation of existing historical homes sits on the corner of George and Bay Streets. Rooms located street side will likely hear significant road noise in the morning hours, but that's like a wake-up call to go out and explore the city. A light breakfast is provided in the main house, which consists of your typical hotel breakfast, albeit with better quality fare. However, the breakfast isn't extensive enough. I typically don't harp on complimentary services, but Zero George seems billed as a "B&B," but doesn't provide a breakfast that resembles that service. I say fire up that that $20k LaCanche stove and serve some hot breakfast. Believe me guests would be in awe of that stove in use in morning. The room itself was perfect. The decor simple and elegant, yet cozy and relaxing. The design is something I would want in my own house. With an actual key for your door, a porch with comfy couches, high ceilings and tall windows adorned with plantation shutters, the room felt like a Southern home. Wine and cheese tastings occur daily around 5PM, which is a great primer for a late dinner. 4 stars for a great stay. We might try other places like the Market Pavilion or Planters Inn in the future, but would definitely recommend this place as a mid-range luxury option. Last thing to note: There really is no where to park, so the $20 valet fee is almost a given. read more
