So this hotel is very nice. I'll start with the good. It's beautiful, well located, very clean, very upscale. That being said everything was damp the whole hotel - rooms - sheets everything slightly moist and maybe that's just Charleston? But aside from their doormen and cleaners staff was really quite abrasive and all seemed to have much better things to do than help a guest at their place of business. Would I come again? What a lovely experience the Hotel Bennett was. My wife and I came for our anniversary, and we were truly grateful for our decision to come here. The price of the rooms very much reflects the level of service and care you receive while you are here. We got the basic king sized room, but the space was more than enough for us, and the room itself was gorgeous. The staff here were some of the most friendly and attentive staff I have had the pleasure of meeting. Our rooms were cleaned and serviced 2-3 times a day, depending on whether we were in the room still. They leave little dark chocolates on the pillows for the evening, and it's such a lovely little touch. The bathtub was quite large, enough for both me and my wife to very comfortably bathe in together. The shower was quite spacious as well. The hotel itself was immaculate, so very clean and smelled wonderful throughout (a common issue we've had with many hotels we've stayed at). The lobby itself was very welcoming, and so very beautiful. We were so caught up in the beauty and comfort, we forgot to take more pictures of it all. Also, talk to the concierges here if this is your first visit to Charleston, especially Kevin. There people know everything you could want about this city. Kevin managed to get us into Halls Chophouse down the road that I had been trying to get a reservation for over a month with a night notice. They are very skilled at what they do, and will help make your trip even more memorable. The housekeeping is phenomenal. Attentive and always making sure the room is immaculate. The chef on the other hand, lackluster. It's 2026 and creating a vegan meal that is a FULL meal shouldn't be a challenge. If you don't eat meat, expect your food to be an after thought of sides. The location is excellent. The front desk staff was mediocre. The fellas that valet and open the door were friendly and knowledgeable. They were the high point of our stay. The room was unremarkable for the price. The outdoor space was like sitting in a bucket. No view, just sky if you look up. We arrived and the doors didn't shut completely from the bedroom to the bathroom. We had to be troubled by requesting maintenance come and repair. Plus, there was no tv remote in the room. When I asked to switch rooms, they said they were "committed for the night". I guess I drew the short straw. Rooftop pool/bar is ok but overpriced. THE worst part was the noise in the hallways as we would try to sleep/relax in our room. Constant door slamming. I understand you can't control the patrons but the staff was doing it as well!! Even by the rooftop pool. They would let the gate slam as they entered and left. It really spoke volumes on how they valued guests. Complete Lack of Standards. Ruined Our Anniversary Trip.If you enjoy dressing up for a special night out, do not take your spouse or date here for an anniversary. We chose Hotel Bennett and Gabrielle specifically because we wanted a genuine 5-star fine dining atmosphere with a strict dress code. We put careful effort into choosing our wardrobe, only to be hit with total disappointment. Upon entering, we were in absolute shock to discover we were practically the only people in the room following the rules. Nearly every single guest was dressed in casual beach clothes, t-shirts, and shorts. Management completely threw their own advertised policies out the window.We felt cheated, double-crossed, and incredibly hurt. At breakfast, a man was allowed to dine right next to us in a sleeveless undershirt "wife-beater" and flip-flops. On top of that, women simply put on men's baseball caps to bypass the "Gentlemen remove hats" sign, creating a room full of hats anyway. Dinner was just as frustrating. Even though their website claims men must wear collared shirts and tailored pants in the evening, a scant few bothered to do so. The dining room was filled with beach flip-flops and casual t-shirts.It is completely dishonest to market a premium, luxury environment to attract guests and then abandon all enforcement at the door. If we wanted a Waffle House atmosphere, we would have gone there and paid a fraction of the cost. We paid top dollar for an upscale experience that management utterly failed to protect. They need to take the dress code off their website if they are too afraid to enforce it. read more

The view from the rooftop at night was really nice. I enjoyed the dim lighting, and the intimate table seating making it a nice date spot. There was also space to lounge and enjoy cocktails with friends. During cooler weather they offer outdoor heaters which is really nice. The service was good overall. The staff made recommendations that were helpful. The menu seemed a bit limited but everything I tasted was flavorful and well made. Shockingly the highlight for me was the chicken wing appetizer and the sauce that accompanied it however I'm sure there is something on the menu that everyone can enjoy. read more

5 Star Hotel in which some ppl will get 5 star service, and others will not. I have had this review in my drafts for some time because I didn't want to post in haste while I was still emotional about my awful experience there. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are very nice, it's conveniently situated in Charleston for walking to some amazing restaurants and we were there during SEWA which was perfect. It was supposed to be a relaxing weekend away and it turned into a stressful disaster. Valet is mandatory due to parking constraints in Charleston so we valet parked the car and checked in. Check in was smooth, we observed other ppl getting a glass of champagne on arrival, we did not. The bell hop was friendly and helpful and got us situated. There was one chocolate on the pillow, I guess we were supposed to split it. There were an assortment of snacks, water and candies for purchase in the room which I thought was very tacky for the price paid for the room. Alcohol and sodas were also available for purchase which is more typical and expected. Room was clean and had some books as a nod to the fact that the building used to be a library. Cute touch. On our second day we received a courtesy call from the manager on duty that our car had gotten "scratched" while it was being moved in the garage. He requested that we meet him downstairs to witness the scratch and that he would let us know at that time what the process was. We went downstairs and waited around for several minutes before the manager finally met us and the valet pulled the car around. The "scratch" was actually not a scratch at all and ended up requiring the replacement of the entire front panel. At that point the manager apologized and said not to worry, he would have the car parked and send us an email with further instructions. We were kinda of in shock because we thought it was going to be a scratch so we just kind of numbly said ok, and decided we would wait to make any remarks until we received the email. Because at that time we trusted that this upscale hotel would make things right. We took a walk and returned to read the email. It basically stated that the hotel would cover the repair and we could have one night free on our NEXT visit to Charleston. Some valet crashes a luxury car and the hotel basically says they'll pay for a repair. That's it. Umm, you just devalued our car, we now have to find a repair shop, get multiple quotes, be without the car while it's being repaired and drive a wrecked car in the meantime. Plus the delay of finding parts. and our relaxing weekend has turned into phone calls and aggravation. We thought we were being generous by giving them the opportunity to make things right ....and keep in mind this hotel has a rooftop bar, a restaurant, a regular bar, a bakery and a spa on site. And they didn't offer us complimentary dinner, drinks or even send us a bottle of wine as a nice gesture, until I mentioned it and then it took them a whole day and it was a cheap wine which was more insulting than sending nothing. Pitiful. If they had handled things well the first day, we would've been ok with it, not happy but ok. It felt like they were taking advantage of us since we were nice about it and didn't yell or get angry. We will not return there. If you go, you'll probably have a great experience, just expect to pay a lot for basically a nice room. And be prepared to split the one tiny chocolate on your pillow. read more

My review only pertains to the rooftop Lounge as we did not stay at the hotel only stopped in for an afternoon cocktail. The rooftop views are amazing. There are about 10 tables scattered around the roof as well as a full bar and some tables inside. The pool is also on the rooftop. They have a full bar. The cocktails were great the prices were not but you are paying for the view. They have table service and they do serve food. We just ordered some fries while we were there. Before we left, my husband and I were already planning our next trip back. TIP: If you prefer premier/white glove service, the King's Club upgrade is definitely worth it. Especially if you are used to club/lounge access. The location was perfect and the views are amazing. Only one piece of feedback: while the service is spectacular, the ability to "read the customer" is a potential area of opportunity. After a long day out with an infant, it's ok to just ask the customer if they need anything and wait to see if there is a desire to engage vs leading with a full conversation while we are trying to get to the elevator. Gorgeous hotel in the perfect location for a downtown Charleston visit. The hotel staff made my wedding anniversary trip with my husband so special. From complimentary champagne to dark chocolate and very much needed privacy, I loved staying at this hotel. Our suite was very clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. It was hard to not stay in bed all morning on one of the rainy days. The coffee/pastry shop and champagne bar connected to the hotel was so delicious and well serviced too. I definitely felt spoiled having everything we needed right at our fingertips. Because they totally deserve it!! This was their first stay at a 5 star hotel and boy did they enjoy it! Upon arriving, we were immediately greeted by Sean & Ben to unpacking our luggage and quickly valeting my vehicle. The entry, lobby sets the scene for a stunning ballroom type of atmosphere. The staff checked us in and I was proud to say "it's my parents anniversary and our first visit to Charleston!" The champagne started to flow and Brody escorted us to our spacious room facing bustling King Street. My parents loved the room and view. They have talked about the attentive service, personalization each and every time the staff sees us "have a great day Mr. & Mrs. Houston". We are from a small town in GA however I live in northern VA. The southern hospitality was on genuine point, something that I have missed!! When I say this was a trip overdue and right on time, I mean it! My parents worked hard to afford me to grow and go to college in Savannah then relocated to begin a new chapter 23 years ago. I always come back home during the summer to spend time with them, laugh and love on them. Hotel Bennett made this weekend even more special and memorable! My husband and I will not be returning to Hotel Bennett. The hotel grounds itself were beautiful, rooms were clean, and staff was very friendly. However, we left our trip feeling disappointed due to the hotel's inability to recover my valuable items that I inadvertently left behind and it's left a lasting negative impression on us. Upon checking out, I realized that I had forgotten my Tiffany's diamond necklace on my bedside table and two new yoga pants in the hotel room drawer. I knew it would be a long shot due to the value of jewelry, but I had faith in humanity and maintained a positive outlook of my situation. I immediately called the hotel's lost and found department to let them know and after searching, the security team was not able to recover any of my belongings. I hate to admit but my mind immediately questioned the integrity of their housekeeping staff. I emailed Scott Macdonald, who manages the Lost and Found team, but after a week I have yet to receive a reply. We've spent thousands on our stay (which we were happy to spend) but now having lost thousands in personal property...we can't help but feel undervalued as guests and sad/frustrated with our experience. While I understand that hotels are not responsible for lost and stolen items, I just don't feel confident that my belongings are safe at this hotel so I regret to say that I cannot recommend Hotel Bennett to other travelers. Hoping this review serves as a warning and encourages the hotel to make improvements with their housekeeping staff. read more

The Hotel Bennett is gorgeous. Every inch of the common areas is a display of thoughtfulness and elegance. Our Check in was lovely. The adjacent bakery serves tasty lattes and gorgeous pastries. We had lunch at the hotel restaurant Gabrielle the food was delicious. The rooms are quite large with a generous sized restroom featuring a stunning bathtub. Room service is efficient and professional. Notable- if you are anywhere located in the 30s area of a floor 430, 435, etc. There is a service door the staff use. This door is open and slammed shut at a minimum of 10-15 times an hour. There is no soft close so prepare to hear the slamming of the door. It is a bit unsettling. One of the staff tried to use a towel to "soften" the sound, but that is only a short lived reprieve as someone in staff removed the towel for whatever reason. read more

We had what could only best be described as an utterly Revolting Experience at Hotel Bennett. This was my second visit. I brought my wife to this visit. When we arrived our room was not ready for check in until a few minutes after 5:00PM. This was unexpected, for which we received a credit on our bill which we did not ask for or demand. We arrived in our room and discovered our bed sheets, blanket and pillow cases were very wet. I had never experienced this before. I called the front desk and the attendant acted surprised by the report. I merely thought the bedding was not sent through the dryer in laundry for sufficient time. I thought nothing of it. The next day we discovered that housekeeping was using a product called WAXIE Solution Station 620 Clean Mist Air Freshener and spraying this chemical on the bedding and pillow cases presumably to take out wrinkles. They are using a commercial chemical deodorizer as if it were a wrinkle release or fabric spray, which it is not. According to research the product is not tested or approved for bedding, fabrics that touch skin, prolonged skin or face contact, or inhalation while sleeping. It is a product for air freshening, deodorizing restrooms, trash areas, carpets, pet areas and for general commercial odor control. The product is known to cause skin and respiratory irritants, which can cause dermatitis or rashes, trigger asthma or coughing and be toxic when abosorbed over time. My wife has respiratory sensitivities. Had we known chemicals were sprayed on our sheets and pillows we certainly would never have stayed at Hotel Bennett. The next day the issues magnified...no pun intended. After we returned to our serviced room after our first full day, we found someone's contact lens in our bed. This is for real. A contact lens in our bed! We do not wear contact lenses. We have never been more revolted and we quickly came to question whether or not we even checked into a room which had a change of bedding from the prior guest stay. It was beyond disgusting. In addition, we still had our used towels inside the bath tub in the bathroom after the room was serviced. The following day we left the hotel at 8:45 am and returned around 4:30 PM to a room that had not been serviced by housekeeping. No fresh towels, no water bottles, we had no kleenex, and so forth. I called the desk. The desk attendant was dismissive and wanted to connect me to another department. At this point we simply needed towels. After the third call to the desk I asked what it would take to receive fresh towels, which ultimately were delivered. I asked to speak with the general manager who was not available and whose name the desk was not eager to release to me. We informed the desk that we would be checking out early and departed the hotel after 3 nights of a four night stay. After we checked out I received an unsolicited call from a man identifiying himself as the Director of Housekeeping. I was in a vehicle with 4 other passengers and not in a position to speak with him, but mentioned I did not seek to speak with him and told him that frankly I had nothing favorable to discuss with him. He became a bit verbally combative and told me that there were things he needed to tell me and I suggested he call another time. However, I have nothing to speak with this individual about. He can save his excuses and justifications for his own management, yet it appears that there is no accountability here. I sought a conversations with the general manager, not housekeeping. We paid $1549 rate on night 1. $1699 on the two subsequent nights. Had we looked at any consumer reviews about the property before we booked Hotel Bennett we would have quickly seen numerous very negative reviews related to the same issues we had.....use of unsafe chemicals, unsanitary bedding conditions, dismissive staff, and combative management. Clearly, the issues are well known to management, and have been for quite sometime. Nonetheless, they obviously seem not to care, yet this property somehow undeservedly carries a 5-star designation. It is revolting and disgusting and altogether unsanitary and management knowingly and willingly is exposing guests to unsafe products and unsanitary conditions, without guest knowledge or consent. This is very problematic. We do not seek and will not accept compensation or credits from this company. We simply felt a duty to warn the public about the unaccceptable and unsafe hospitality practices, the dismissive attitude of management, and combatitive and somewhat aggressive behavior of hotel represenatives. I have never felt compelled to post a review of this nature in my entire experience, before this unfortunate disgusting episode. read more

WOW, 10 out of 10 hotel! From check-in to check-out this hotel and it's staff are top notch. The front desk agents, the greeters, the concierge, room service delivery staff, the spa staff, the housekeepers, and the bartenders in this hotel were the best I've ever experienced. I was in this business for years. My father owns hotels and I've traveled a lot. I've never had 100% of the staff be so friendly, so accommodating and so helpful. They give 5 star service across the board. Hotel is gorgeous and clean. I can't say enough nice things. I went during a slower time so I even got a nice rate. They treated me like I was spending a thousand dollars a night. I can't wait to go back. I don't think I will ever be able to stay anywhere else every time I'm in Charleston now. They remembered my name and were very personable with different staff acknowledging me and my family. "Welcome back, Mr. ___." "Did you enjoy your time at the cigar lounge with your friend?" Small things like that matter to me and also sets exceptional experiences apart from just the good. I was in town exploring the number 1 city in the US (according to Travel + Leisure), and hotel hopped throughout the week, with Hotel Bennett being the last one, due to its proximity to a late night concert that I was attending at the Charleston Music Hall. Though my family was able to enjoy the pool, we missed out on a lot of other things on the property. Our stay at this property was far too short. We had to leave early morning to catch a flight, and the concierge on duty was excellent and helped retrieve our car since there was no Valet person at that hour, and pack in the luggage. The team at the check-in/check-out desk were also a pleasure to deal with; their attitude was upbeat and very accommodating. Though they could not commit to an an early check-in, they did hold our luggage, brought up our luggage as soon as our room was ready, and phoned me to pick up my keys 3 hours before the standard check-in time. Check out was smooth, as well. The standard bathrooms were also NICE, having both shower and large bath tub. Only quibble was that the bathroom doors do not lock so really no privacy in that respect. Oh well, the service and other amenities helped me look past that. At over $1000/night, it was pricy but in my opinion, worth it. I look forward to staying here again in the future. read more
