Updating my review to 5 stars Shelly's food is delicious. I'd rather take it to go though. Called in an order for Monte Cristo breakfast with crispy hash browns. It was out of this world. with the delicious jam MMmmm..... my pickup was ready when i arrived only 11 minutes after I called it in.

We came here right before we had to get on a plane to fly home, there weren't too many people eating there so no wait. I was intrigued by the breakfast monte cristo. I wanted a big meal because I didn't want to buy airport food and that is definitely what I got - large portions! I wasn't a huge fan of the sandwich, I don't think the cheese was a good combo. I actually really wish I hadn't gotten cheese at all lol, but without the cheese I just knowwww it would've been good. I loved the jam it came with. My girlfriend had a pancake breakfast and it was humongous ! She wasn't a fan of the potatoes, I really liked the hash browns :) they were nice and crunchy!

The hash browns were good, the waitress was sweet. The jam was the star of the show. The pancake was chewy, the meat was low quality. There was a roach that popped out of the napkin dispenser, it ruined the entire experience. Our AirBnB host recommended this place, I really wanted it to be good, but unfortunately, it wasn't anything to write home about, I'm sorry Shelly...

A hometown diner, a small business -- glad to see an outfit like this in operation, and want to support them by giving them business. I went for breakfast on a Saturday morning - I started with Earl Grey tea (good, a full pot of tea using a Stash tea-bag, for only $2). My breakfast was a Hangtown Fry, and I'd driven down from Seattle, jut to try it. It came with a choice of toast (I went for the generous biscuit), and home fries (new potatoes, cut in pieces and cooked with salt, garlic and some other flavor-enhancing ingredients. The food came out promptly - the biscuit was far too big to finish, but it was fresh and good. It came with two tiny containers (one jam, one butter), neither of which were sufficient in quantity to properly cover the biscuit, so I sliced it in half, and used them on half. I'm sure I could have asked for more, but I didn't. Hangtown fry is one of my favorite breakfast dishes of all time -- I used to get it at Chinooks in Seattle's Fisherman's terminal, long after it was no longer on the menu -- but since the pandemic, they're not doing breakfast anymore (with a few rare exceptions). In any case, they set a high standard for the dish. Shelly's hangtown fry was more of a scramble than a traditional hang town fry, but it had all the right ingredients - scrambled eggs, spinach, oysters, onion, bacon. The eggs, bacon, and onions were all good. The oysters were OK, but would have benefited from separate pan frying in very light batter before being integrated into the dish. So, not as good as Chinook's used to make, but fairly decent. The home-fried new potatoes were oddly seasoned -- while they looked great (the way I usually like them), I wasn't a fan of the seasoning (I love garlic, salt and pepper, but there was something else there that threw the flavor off a bit). The restaurant itself was in a strip mall, and had booths and tables right out of the 1950s. The staff was friendly and helpful, though much like a traditional diner, there was nothing fancy about the decor or the service (the woman who waited on my table delivered food while talking to someone on the phone, then made a comment to the cook about a joke the caller had told her. So all-in-all, Shelly's was a good little joint, but I'm not sure I'll be making the trip back anytime soon. In other words, a good breakfast place for locals, not a place I would make a special trip for again. One minor annoyance - a charge for "non cash adjustment", or in other words, a credit card fee. I understand that card processors charge for their service, but at this point, I don't carry/spend cash anymore, and don't appreciate such fees. Better to adjust the prices, than nickel and dime customers with fees.

The good parts: it was busy when we arrived on a late Saturday morning, usually a good sign. I ordered an Irish Coffee. They may have been short staffed - it took a good while. My Irish Coffee did pack a good punch - always good for this one-drink-buzz girl. Portions were also quite large. My omelette was quite big, stuffed with spinach and bacon. A good portion of potatoes were served with your meal. Not-so-good parts: service took awhile - they may have been short staffed. The Bloody Mary wasn't flavorful, just tomato-y. The food was okay for us, not great. Hubs ordered Chicken Fried Steak, but it wasn't his favorite. Ambiance was diner-ish. No music. Kinda felt packed in. Staff not friendly, not unfriendly, just doing their jobs. Still looking for a great breakfast spot near us!

Unfortunately we did not like our breakfast. Customer was ok, she was very nice but would spill coffee in our water every time she poured it. Grits were perfect! My husband ended up getting sick after eating the Benedict and he has a pretty strong stomach. We had to head home right after because he got sick from his food. My scramble wasn't good. My French toast was like the worse pieces of bread you could use. If you aren't picky you would probably won't mind the food maybe. I don't need it to be perfect but the cold coffee was what really ruined it for me. Refills were even cold.

Food and service was great. They made it kid friendly and I didn't feel rushed eating there. I had chicken fried steak and their gravy was sausage gravy which was great. They forgot my biscuit and I forgot to ask since I was busy cAtching up with friends and also had babies to deal with. read more

So disappointed!! Went for breakfast because I was told the food was good. They were not overly busy, but seemed completely disorganized. Could not get a refill on our coffee, the staff just ignored us. My eggs Benedict was tasty but not warm. Tried to get our bill to pay, but again Could not get any attention from anyone. The menu looked so good. Too bad the service is so HORRIBLE read more

Maybe our 15th time to Shelly's- mostly for breakfast and it's in our neighborhood. 90% happy. Usually, very good service and food. A couple weeks ago, got a Joe's Special to go. Got home and it was made with sausage instead of hamburger. Ewww. This time, we were seated first (party of 2) out of the other 4 parties that arrived and were seated after us. It took 20 min to have someone take our drink order, although the other, later parties, already had theirs. Maybe we were seated in a 'twighlight zone'. Hard to say. Finally- took our order and now waiting to see how long it takes and if order is correct. I understand we got here at 10am on a Sunday morning, but we are still waiting for food 45 minutes later! Hoping it's an 'off' day and maybe they are short staffed. Like I said earlier- usually very happy with this place! read more

Three of us really wanted breakfast for dinner so we drove from Kent to another restaurant and they were packed so I turned to Yelp to help us fulfill our craving. I had the "kitchen sink" as a scramble with spinach and enjoyed every bite, it was perfect. The other two had the pancakes and sadly they were pretty terrible, they were really rubbery. Not an adjective that should describe pancakes. We had great service and I hope that maybe the mix was just off for the pancakes as I really enjoyed my meal, the restaurant was cozy, and the service was great! We will definitely try them again. read more

Family owned and ran I believe. Always friendly, smiling staff. I work across the street and have eaten here several times. EVERY TIME the food comes out delicious and satisfting. Big plates, so come hungry. Lot's of local regulars and decent prices bring me and my family back everytime... All the food is awesome but I recommend anything with their country gravy (My favorite is the country fried steak,SOOOO good) And Oh my the homemade freezer jam is a must... The owner of this restaurant should be ashamed by the amount of filth that exists in her establishment. Dirty menus, blinds, salt and pepper shakers, syrup containers, floors, benches, chairs. I hoped it would get better after their grand opening, but it's as filthy as ever. Your customers deserve better. It's too bad because the food is excellent. Won't be back. read more

My husband and I LOVE this place. You get really amazing service, and a TON of really great food. We were reading some of the negative reviews on here and I have no idea what those people are talking about! We love that this place opened in Normandy park. People need to know about this place!! Or not, because it's already busy. Our criteria was "Amazing breakfast that I don't have to prepare or cleanup myself." Bonus points that it's close by. First: plenty of parking, friendly greeting, promptly seated, HOT delicious coffee. The menu has an extensive list of items, plus different ways to have them served up. I had the Baja egg dish as a scramble, hashbrowns, bacon on the side, add mushrooms. The hashbrowns were perfectly crisp, perfectly golden, delicious. The scramble was tasty as well. My English muffin was served with fresh, local raspberry freezer jam. My best friend ordered the Baja Benedict, with ham, and a blueberry pancakes on the side. The dilled home-style potatoes were amazing!! Especially dipped into the yummy Hollandaise. The warm syrup with the pancake was a nice touch. There was plenty of food to overstuff ourselves, or to take home for a snack later. Service was attentive, friendly, but not intrusive. Shelly herself takes orders, chatting with the customers and asking about their families, making conversation. I can't wait to make this my regular breakfast spot!! Well done, Shelly and staff -- five stars all around!! read more

DELICIOUS!!!! Their chef salad has REAL turkey on it and is fully loaded with ham, cheese sticks, generous amount of lettuce, and a hard boiled egg. We also got the Harley burger with cheese and bacon...whoa!!! So tasty!!! Great food, absolutely a "must visit". I live down towards Olympia and it was worth the drive out to eat at this little gem. The Potato salad does have a little too much of a heavy presence of onions but other than that, the music was great, atmosphere was great, service was superb and food was GRAND!!! Two thumbs up!!! read more

One of my greatest brunch dilemmas is "Do I get biscuits and gravy or eggs Benedict?" Well guess what? Shelly solved that problem with the 1/2 and 1/2: one biscuit with gravy and one Benedict. Brilliant. The egg was poached perfectly, the sausage gravy was on point and not too thick, the house potatoes are delicious, and the seemingly odd union of hollandaise and gravy that ended up on the last of those potatoes was the absolute best. read more

Perfect brunch before a flight out of town! I had the Two Nice, half eggs Benedict and half biscuit and gravy with potatoes. Very good Benedict and the biscuit+gravy was delicious. The potatoes were ok; next time I might get them fried. Got bonus fruit, though. Very good, fast, friendly service, even at the bar. Very good price. Would definitely come here again! read more

I was looking for a new local brunch spot, so glad that we decided to try Shelly's out! Not sure which was better, the food or the service, both were AMAZING! My teenage son ordered the breakfast Monte Cristo and a cherry Milkshake. I had the Twice as Nice (1/2 eggs benedict & 1/2 biscuits and gravy). We both walked out with full bellies (which is nearly impossible to do with a 16 year old boy) and with to go boxes and our bill was only $30. read more

Had breakfast here once and it was great. Was fairly easy to locate from the airport. Coffee was good and service was fast and friendly. My wife had an omelet with bacon and my goodness it was good. The best hamburger i have had in YEARS!! Unbelievable. And the milkshakes!!! hand made, wow.! i will drive out of my way ALOT to go here again, and again, and again. Prices are great. Was here for breakfast the other day and can you say fabulous???? I had the Twice as Nice and it most certainly was that! It's a split plate between Bisquits and Gravy and the Eggs Benedict-who gives you that much goodness on one plate? My friend had the Monte Cristo and that was just as delicious! I can't find that sandwich on the menu anywhere, so that will be my next choice the next time I come in. I also had a killer Bloody Mary from the friendly bartender that provided just enough spice and was a great way to end brunch! Nice to have a new neighborhood spot, these guys know what they are doing! Thanks Shelley's I'll be back! read more

Meh... If you are looking for Denny's, I-hop, or the pancake place in seatac, then this is right up your alley. This place has big portions for a hungry appetite. For the rest of us, this place isn't worth the money. For 3 adults to eat Breakfast it was $64 bucks with tip. Overpriced much?!?! (Spoiler alert - breakfast is one the the cheapest meals of the day) Are you kidding me!! We had the gut buster, corned beef hash and the beni. The sauce was broken on the beni, the eggs were not made to specific request on all of the order at the table. The corned beef tasted spoiled. There are better places to eat for the cost of this meal, in burien. You could buy a completely organic breakfast with all the same offering for less! This place is great for : elderly, kids, and a drink(full bar). read more

Server/mixologist Ariel, was so happy and helpful.... Made us want to hang out all day. However the Kitchen Sink jumble and Taco Omelet pile were so delicious and overwhelmingly huge..... we had to leave and walk them off. Of course....the delicious, huge homemade biscuits didn't help. Highly recommend this place and look forward to coming back. Next time I'm starting with their Bloody Mary. read more

I ate there recently with friends and the food was great, huge portions, easily split. However, the place is so rundown now and it was just dirty; crumbs everywhere, silverware dirty, even the server's apron looked like it hadn't been washed in a week. I would've given it 5 stars, but they really need to clean it up. read more

We had our grandchildren with us and I could see that wouldn't work so I asked to be placed at a booth which wouldn't be so intrusive to other diners and she was able to accommodate us. There is no denying that tables are placed very close together here. Our waiter was very professional and the staff worked as a team. The food here is very good and the servings are large. With that said I gave it a much better review this time. I just can't give it a 5 because of the seating. I would recommend trying it. If you don't mind dining in tight quarters this a great place for good food.

Hoping that the same did not apply to the fish, I took a bite of one of the planks...no flavor as well. To give it some form of flavor, I had to saturate it in vinegar and use a healthy serving of tarter sauce. I understand that some restaurants are hesitant to pre-season food due to various preferences and allergies. However, I have never consumed food that tasted like what I would imagine the flavor of paper would be. The customer service was good...but if this was an indication of how their other meals taste, I can't honestly say that I could make a return visit.

We've been coming here often for over a year. Their Soups are unbelievable everything is home made they roast a whole turkey for the soups, to give a more robust flavor. They also make all of their own stocks... who does that anymore? We have gone through most of the menu and have a large selection to appease many tastes. My daughter loves the eggs Benedict, my favorite is the chicken fried steak. The portions are large so you always leave full. They are also open during the holidays because they think of they're customers as family and want them to have somewhere to go if they don't have somewhere. A true gem, bringing back the small town charm to our busy hectic lives nowadays. Ariel most of the time we come is our waitress and she always serves us with a smile, always top notch service which brings the best food just up a few notches. read more

She will always take time to chat you up and make sure your visit is special and your order is exactly right. Went in to meet a friend for dinner. It was her first time at Shelly's. The special was a pecan crusted chicken breast with a Cajun sauce. I knew Shelly has a new cook she flew in from Louisiana. The chicken and sauce were wonderful. We both had it and upgraded our salads to the small happy hour chicken curry variety. It was a relaxing dinner back in the bar section.
