On Saturday June 15th, 2024, my daughter ordered meals from Shells, St. Pete Beach via Take - Out. She ordered extra sauce, as sometimes the pasta can be dry. Which she paid for. Once she determined the extra sauce was not included (did not see any extra, or in a container we normally receive) she went back into the restaurant to ask for the manager to get this corrected. Well, the manager, Bill, comes out, already hostile, and questions her as if she stole something (maybe it was how she looked: a young black female). Instead of fixing the issue, he insisted on giving her a hard time. He got loud with her and insisted that he was not providing any more sauce and would not issue a credit for the missing sauce. At this time, she even stated to Bill that she refused to argue with him about the missing sauce and just wanted to have the money refunded. Well, that manager stated that they do not do refunds, and would not be giving back her any money. She provided him with the receipt and advised that it was not on the receipt that there were no refunds. It seemed he was making things up as he was in his emotions. She assumed Bill might also be new as he was getting frustrated and seemed not to know how to work their cash register. One of the employees had to advise him that the refund did in fact already go through, even though Bill was adamant that it would not be refunded. Bill's employees looked very uncomfortable during this transaction. When she asked who Bill's supervisor was to speak on this, he refused to give that information. As a parent, I have stepped in and called 4 times to try to get ahold of Bill's manager, who is ALSO named Bill - the District Manager. Low and behold, in all my attempts to reach this CLOWN, there has never been a call back to understand what happened between the consumer and his employee. Who leads like this? Bill the Clown DM needs to take a step down or attend some sort of leadership training/conference to know how to work with consumers and employees regardless of what the situation is. My family and I have been going to Shell's for well over 25 years and have never experienced this type of hypocritical and unprofessional behavior from the clown Bill DM, who does not want to call back as it seems he is avoiding confrontation. Bill needs to be removed from this role if he doesn't care to take 5 minutes to reach out to a customer who has a concern. I don't know if Bill thought not reaching out would keep this situation silent, because he is unworthy of dedicated, paying customers who have supported this establishment even before he stepped into that role. Bill, you should be ashamed of yourself to run your business like this. It can maybe explain why your employee, the manager Bill at the SPB location feels he can speak to and treat customers how he did. I want to thank the Tampa management for their professionalism, time, and sense of urgency regarding my family's concern with their sister location. I guess Black Family's opinions don't matter to this restaurant. The world we live in, with the wrong people in leadership roles. read more

If you're looking for a casual seafood restaurant with a laid-back, beachy vibe, this spot is an absolute winner for meeting up with friends! From the moment we walked in, the friendly atmosphere and ocean-inspired décor set the stage for a great meal Let's talk about the food--because wow, did it deliver! We started with the clam chowder, which is made in-house and absolutely to die for. Creamy, rich, and loaded with fresh clams, it's easily one of the best I've had. If you're a chowder lover, don't skip this one! Next up, we ordered a dozen oysters, and they were fantastic--large, briny, and super fresh. A true taste of the ocean! The calamari had great flavor, but was just a touch tough, so I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5. For the main course, the Crispy Captain's Combo was a real standout. The fried cod was perfectly cooked--crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. The whole plate was a seafood lover's dream. We also tried the shrimp and crab dip, which was bursting with flavor and had a nice little kick. It's a bit on the spicy side, but that just made it even better. Another 4 out of 5 for me! Overall, this place hits all the marks for a casual, delicious seafood spot. Great food, great service, our server Emily T was awesome! She did an excellent job dealing with our family ( all seniors). The service (Emily T) makes you want to come back again. I can't even explain how great of a meal me and my wife just had here at Shells. First off the staff was excellent and they bend over backwards to make you happy. Stephen our waiter was amazing, he made us feel like family. For starters we had the steamed Mussels and the were insanely good. They were had a light tomato/red broth just enough to accentuate the flavor but not overwhelm. We also had some hand breaded mushrooms with a creamy horseradish based dipping sauce, it was surprising unique and good. After that we had the New England Clam Chowder, honestly I don't think I have ever had better. It was rich, buttery, but not too much to hide the subtle flavor from the clams. My wife then had the grouper with rice and vegetable, she was very pleased with her fish. I had the snow crab legs, let's say they give you butter but there is no need for it here, every bite was amazing. The only thing I am unhappy about is I am only going to be able to eat here this one week since I am on vacation and I probably might not be back to this great restaurant after that. To give anyone reading this a comparison I would rate a red lobster or a Joe's Crab Shack a two maybe three star and I definitely would rate Shells a five. Plus the prices are modest, you and your significant other can eat here and dine like a king for under $50 (market prices for the seafood). read more

We came here on our last night of vacation, and I'm sure glad we did! Wonderful food & fabulous service! We were greeted so warmly by our waiter, Christian, who was both funny & sweet. We were seated near a rather large, noisy party and were temped to move, but he had already won my husband & I over! He made some great suggestions for drinks and appetizers. We settled on some Rum Runners and they were delicious. When we told him we were from MA, he suggested we try the chowder, or chowda as we call it up here. It is truthfully one of the best chowders I have ever had. We also had some ice cold peel and eat shrimp, another favorite of ours. For our entrees, he made several suggestions, and we decided on the shrimp & scallop pasta. Unfortunately, we had no room left for dessert:(! Everything was incredible and we will definitely be back for more! This place was awful. My shrimp scampi looked like someone grabbed a puddle from outside and put it in a bowl then threw my shrimp on there. I took one bite of the shrimp and my stomach bloated instantly and started turning. The sauce was so salty that no amount of water could help me and I had to take a water pill to help. The waitress walked by multiple times after seeing the full plate on the corner of the table as I didn't want it and she wouldn't come to us even though we tried flagging her down. The atmosphere was absolutely awful and everything tasted like it was frozen. Idk who wrote these good reviews on this place but I am telling you- NEVER GO THERE. This place ruined my stomach for two days. Please see photo attached of my "shrimp scampi". Oh and I didn't want to eat anything after this experience and it was such a process to even get my food off the bill. I suggest you not going here if you like edible food. read more

Steamed clams were what youd expect, wine sauce slightly salty. famous shrimp pasta was linguine in cream sauce with shrimp, lots of shrimp. but i feel like it was average pasta dish, al dente. ni fu ni fa. crab cakes had noticeable amount of crab lumps, like mostly crab. if youve ever had a crab cake that was mostly a crab flavoured biscuit you know how surprising this is. service was great, staff is very comfortable with each other, and with us, answered questions without getting huffy, the boss even comes out to clear tables, definitely a really awesome atmosphere. read more

My husband and I had just gotten off a plane at 2pm and we were Starving. Wanted to eat before checking in, I googled for seafood restaurants close to our Hotel. Shell Seafood was Awesome, I was so hungry and I couldn't make a decision. Our waitress Heather was so sweet and recommended several of her favorites. I find it very difficult to go to a restaurant (as someone that has spent a long time in the service industry) and not pick everything apart. I had a late lunch at Shells (SPB) yesterday and I cannot tell you what a great experience it was. I sat at the bar with my boyfriend. We split 2 apps and had the grilled shrimp dinner. I tend to eat very healthy and I was beyond amazed that my entree was not dripping with grease/oil. Our bartender was very friendly. We found a new local spot for margaritas and lunch! I loved this restaurant from years ago and was surprised to pass by it recently, so I decided to look it up before heading home and placed a lunch order! I ordered the linguine with shrimp and scallops, white garlic type sauce, before tax $13.90...it included 6 SMALL shrimp and 2 SMALL scallops and 2 TINY scallops!!! First off we were greeted by the most welcoming individual. We sat outside where they had fans and misters to keep us cool and comfortable. Our server was Ryan and he made our visit the best! Thank you Ryan. We had the seafood crab and shrimp dip and chips for starters. It was very yummy and we ate every bite. We also enjoyed the crab cakes and buffalo shrimp. We were pleasantly surprised with the Shells on St Pete Beach. The food was excellent, they seated us quickly, and Heather our waitress was a gem. My wife had the Cioppino and she raved about it. I had the shrimp and scallop pasta and I loved it. The prices are reasonable and the dining is casual. If you had a bad experience with Shells from years ago not to worry. One of the best meals we had while on vacation down here. Service was awesome! Thanks to Jill. The manager came out and checked on all the tables-I feel like this is a must for excellent customer service. The oysters were huge! Lunch portions of the fish specials were large. We had been hearing great things about shells so we decided to check it out. When we arrived at the restaurant parking was a bit of an issue. Once we made it inside all the staff gave us a warm welcome. Our server,Carlene was very upbeat and knowegable. She suggested the lobster combo special and it was delicious. My wife and I travel to Florida to explore the gulf coast. We have visited many restaurants so far but this was our favorite. Our supper at Shells tonight was delicious. Carmine was very smart and sweet to both my wife and I. She suggested the crab cakes, explaining that they are even better than the ones she has in Maryland growing up. Anyways, after dining at Shells they have a brilliant marketing strategy that actually convinced me to download the app (give credit where credit is due). Wow, I didn't even know that Shells was still around! But our meal and service was amazing. Daniella was on top of everything. She was helping take care of 15 people plus handing her other tables effortlessly. She was always checking on us and didn't forget one request. The food was on point. Wife and I got the 1 1/2 pounds each of snow crap legs. It was awesome!!! We also tried the clam chowder and classic seafood pasta which was very good as well. Our server was friendly as well. He went over his top recommendations from the menu and answered any questions we had. Nothing was really standing out to us or sounding appetizing based off his description but we still decided to give it a try and ordered the Blue crab based off the waiters recommendation and the Red Fish. When the food finally came we were both surprised with the Blue crab dish. What was in front of us is not what was described to us. It was not appetizing to me at all so my husband ate most of this. The Red fish tasted great but just wished it came with an actual side like rice, mashed potatoes, or an actual filling portion size of vegetables. Instead it came with 3 carrots. Pictures provided of both meals. We ordered a desert to share for our anniversary which was good. Overall the ambiance of the restaurant was really nice but the food selection and portion size could be a-lot better. We were both still hungry after dinner which is normally not the case for me especially with dessert & this is when we found out about Uncle Andy's Market. My husband and I were able to find something in here to satisfy our hunger. While we were at Uncle Andy's one of the workers there told us that the restaurant we just ate at was going through a revamp and menu changes so it is still a working process which is definitely understandable. Because of the convenience of the restaurant when staying at the hotel I really hope the food selection and portion size gets better so we can give it another try with hopefully a better experience.

Then management tried to tell us that the steak was just leaving after they already admitted that they cut it in half. I will give them credit they took the steak off our bill. It's no wonder that Guy Harvey took his name off this restraunt.
