Buc-ee's - Buc-ee's, Denton

Buc-ee's

Three Buc-ee's in a row is a bit much but that's how it worked out as I wrap up my Texas tour of…read moreBuc-ee's, adding Denton as the 30th I have reviewed in https://www.yelp.com/collection/K2PxaWl_0nh8YV5DNxaJVA/Buc-ee-s. Having visited eight in the last week, from Auburn AL and Pass Christian MS and across Texas), it's easy to see how formulaic they are and how they all have the same features. Located adjacent to a busy highway exit, it's easy to access and they don't allow tractor trailers so you're not dodging big trucks. Huge expansive parking lot that rings the whole store. Dozens if not a hundred gas pumps, all clean and free of litter. Multiple entrances with handicapped parking immediately in front of each one. Inside, you'll probably get a "Welcome to Buc-ee's!" as you enter. As you walk around the store, you'll maybe here a shouted "Fresh brisket on the board!" as a new piece of beef is set out for slicing. In the center, a sandwich station where they're making up tacos and sandwiches. There's an area where they are candying nuts. A fudge counter. A jerky counter. A handmade tortilla station. Bunkers with snacks and fresher foods like salads, sandwiches, protein packs, cups of banana pudding and coconut pie. A wall of soda fountains with two dozen options. Coffee and fixings. A third of the store is consumed with decor. Some of it is very much Buc-ee's merchandise with tshirts, swimsuits, hats, jackets and the like. A seasonal tshirt on display. And much of it is Southern styled decor with the occasional bible quote or some other risque and double entendre. Clean restrooms. No, really. They pay a $40k a year salary to people to keep the floors clean, the counters wiped, the paper towels stocked and the toilets clean. I have never seen a dirty Buc-ee's toilet in ever. There a reason Buc-ee's is a destination and they're working to come closer to you. I've been to Buc-ee's in ten states and they're expanding with new ones in Colorado, Ohio and Arizona opening recently. Go check it out! [Review 411 of 2026 - 720 in Texas - 25594 overall]

If not for the green salsa, I'm not sure it would have gotten a review, much less noticed. Valero's is a gas station, a convenient store, with a little Mexican restaurant in the back. Walk inside Valero's here, and off to the right in the back is literally a hole in the wall. The down side: They only have only three little tables, and you fend for yourself. The Valero's here is not that great, but the gem is it has probably the best green salsa in the DFW area that I have tried so far. The ticket here is the green salsa pollo (chicken) soft tacos. These soft tacos have marinated chicken pieces with onion, cilantro, and green salsa. They serve it with a small piece of lime, squeezed over the top and enjoy. That green sauce has just the right amount of spice, if you're a sissy in that department squeeze a little extra lime; or just leave your purse at home Alice and give it a try. Now mind you, it's not like a hot habanero sauce, but it will get your attention. Pull up your adventure boots, and come try a few. I usually get three to five to go. Whatever you do, get some extra green salsa to go. Depending on the time of day you may not have the option to sit down there. Around lunch time the place is pact. It is best to get your tacos to go. Oh, I hear some more soft tacos calling my name.

I've always wondered how people find these little gems, to be honest I wouldn't ever see myself stopping here. So as you make you way through the gas station, make note of the "poker supplies" area they have there as well.....just incase you ever need poker supplies. Close to that area is the taco stand! I was on limited time and worried it would take a bit to get things going, but my order came out in no time at all...two tacos and one quesadilla. The beef taco was amazing, freshly seasoned and as expected plain, but full of flavor. The chicken wasn't as impressive, but still pretty good. Also there needs to be a mention of the drinks they have up front. I just happened to try one of the melon drinks out and plain on coming back just for that drink....amazing! Staff was friendly and if you are ever in the neighborhood I would suggest stopping by. All items were priced just right and everything hit the sport perfect. I'll be back very soon!
