This particular Greek offering is located outside the hustle and bustle of the city centre and thus is more intimate an experience. Forget waht your inhibitions are about the "kebab" and give their Souvlakia Kebabs a whirl. Trust me you won't regret it. I also tried the sea food platter which was delicious and consisted of smoked salmon, mackerel, taramosalata, cocktail prawns, pickled octopus, crab and caviar garnished with lettuce and parsley. Is that delightful or is that delightful. There are just so many mouth watering options this place will have you coming back for more. Even if you are a vegan they can cater for you. I had some of my friend's Mosaka and normally I'm not too pleased with the vegetarian dishes but this one I did fancy. The Mosaka comprises of layered potatoes aubergines and courgettes topped with cheese sauce cooked in individual ceramic dish which gives it a unique and tasty flavor. To add to all this the prices are very reasonable and normally it will set you back less than £20 per person which is fantastic given the generous portions of food you receive. This is one Taverna I will be paying a visit again in the near future, why don't you have a gander good people!!

The service is very friendly, with staff all adept at offering recommendations and explaining ingredients. It's also very family oriented, unsurprising given its origins, and children are given a very warm welcome too. It's definitely authentically Greek, remarkably cheap too and the portions are generous with plentiful choices. It's quite rustic and rough n' ready which adds heaps to its charm too. If our inexplicably dull, humid and surprisingly early summer is getting you down this is certainly a place that'll inject a little Mediterranean sunshine into your life. Be sure to make the additional journey to check it out!

The service was great overall, but there was one young waitress who was very clumsy and struggled to understand orders - we all figured she must have been a new staff member. The food - wow! We all had starters, I had the shared mixed fish platter with my boyfriend, which was lovely. Large portions, crunchy batter and perfectly cooked. My mum had the meatballs and said they were very yummy. Everyone said their portions were large and they were very happy with the standard. Food was excellently presented to boot. Main courses - these were huge! I ordered the lamb kleftiko, and it turned out to be a lamb shank which could have fed me for 3 meals! It was succulent and tender, you didn't need a knife! They came out singing with my mum's birthday cake, and made her feel very welcome on her special night, even made her a rose out of a paper napkin :). Overall, everyone was very happy with their meals, the only slight issue was that the meal was too large! But we got to take the leftovers away with us to enjoy the next day so it wasn't really an issue at all. No room for dessert, but the table next to us had some and they looked delicious. Give this little hidden gem a try - it's great value for money!

With a bring your own booze policy this is a popular place for groups and will be a busy venue around Christmas time. The food, as you expect from Greek restaurants is good, hearty and a little too rich anytime of the year but it has a very warm feel to the place which is helped I think by it's out of the way location behind the university which makes you and your fellow diners feel like you know something the rest of the city doesn't.

No wonder she was keeping it secret, easy to do in this not so salubrious location, as this family run Greek restaurant is hard to beat on quality and value. Decor, music, menu and owner( George) are most definitely Greek but ably helped by his scouse son and daughter to bring that bit of the med to a Liverpool back street. The menu has a great range of fine char grill cooked meat, and other greek favourites including excellent home crafted soups, dips, salads, stuffed vine leaves etc and the mezes is hard to finish ( both the meat and veggie version). My favourite is the succulent and tender chicken kebabs but my vegetarian sister says the plaki ( butter beans in tomato) beans are hard to beat. The place is favourite of many university staff and students located just across the road from the main campus and lunch and evenings find the initiated enjoying quality fresh cooked mediterranean fare in the friendly company of George, I recommend you try it.

It is located just on the corner of the burn put church in the city centre and is easily accessible by bus. A family run establishment since the 1970s this is one of the best places to eat in the city. The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The owner of the restaurant is very much front of house and makes you feel welcome immediately. The food is all fresh cooked to order and served authentic Greek cuisine. The lamb kleftico is to die for. And if you have a sweet too the then I'd recommend the homemade baklava with pistachio ice cream. All the food is prepared on site in the little open kitchen at the heart of the restaurant. You can see the chefs busy cooking away which is great to see. I really like this restaurant because of its authentic Greek cuisine and hospitality. The food is stunning, the service is superb and the location is perfect. I also got the feeling that, like a movie, when you walk in everyone stops what they're doing and looks at you, if only for a fraction of a second. After these unsettling observations, we were shown to our table. The service here is excellent, and the food is as traditional as you want (ie there are English options too). Also, there is no plate smashing or belly dancing, unlike Christakis, so you can enjoy a nice quiet meal. Being a fan of all things foreign, I enjoyed the food greatly, although I know traditional Greek isn't to everyone's taste. If I had my way, I'd eat tzatziki and bread and drink wine all night if I could! The food is reasonably priced and the atmosphere nice, so if you want a mild Greek experience, go to Zorbas!

What a wonderful little restaurant this is, you absolutely must go if you're in Liverpool and want a nice meal. The interior is sort of a combination of funky and romantic, with dim purple lighting, cushions on which to recline, and a very small dining room. The menu is a hodgepodge of European influences, and it's the sort of menu that sounds like it could be quite average, but every bite absolutely transcends its menu description. Since it was my birthday, they wrote "Happy birthday!" on my placemat before we arrived which was quite cute. I'm very sad to not remember exactly what we got for each course, they had so many specials that aren't on their website! I think to start we had wood pigeon and the scallops, both of which were absolutely outstanding. I preferred the scallops (a special, I think) and my fiancé preferred the wood pigeon which was on the main menu. Each item was cooked perfectly and all the flavors of the dish mingled together beautifully - somebody in the kitchen knows what they are doing. My fiancé had beef and I had lamb for the main courses; both were tender and luscious. Though I've forgotten what we had for dessert, I know it continued to be wonderful as was everything that preceded it. The servers were friendly and informative, and the whole vibe of the restaurant was similar. We struck up a chat with the folks at two tables next to us, our whole side of the restaurant was talking to each other! It was lovely, a warm and intimate place where you feel like you can either enjoy a romantic evening for two or strike up a conversation with a stranger. Puschka is pricey, but for such wonderful, inspired food, I think it's absolutely worth it. A great place for a special occasion, or any time at all!

The decor inside is classy and modern also and you feel as though you are in quality surroundings and as such the food will be of a high standard. The most impressive thing about the restaurant is that they try to use local ingredients which is great to see and the menu is vast ranging from a rump of Lamb to Southport shrimps which incidentally I would recommend despite not being a fan of seafood . There are also great wines and a range of beers to be found also although nothing in Puschka comes cheap. This place is well worth the price and really is a niche within Liverpool's culinary ensemble so I would definitely advise the people of merseyside to try out Puschka.
