This is a foodies heaven. Delifonseca was founded in 2006 by Candice Fonseca as a specialist deli and market for organic and exotic foods and has subsequently expanded to a restaurant on the first floor. It crams a very extensive selection of foods into a small space but the very friendly and knowledgable staff make it a cosy rather than claustrophobic experience. If you're just stopping in for a snack at luch time you will probably find it difficult to make a decision from the deli's range of sandwiches and snacks so I always go for a Deli Salad Box which gives you a little bit of everything like stuffed vine leaves, olives and taboule. The restaurant is a good combination of British and Mediterranean styles with plenty of local produce on the menu and is an absolute bargain at prices around 10-12 for a main dish.

I love Delifonseca, it's definitely my cup of tea. I came for lunch not too long ago, and unsurprisingly it was full, so I waited quite happily at the bar for ten minutes until the staff rallied around and found me a table. The food is absolutely scrummy - yes that is a very accurate description! My absolute favourite starter is the spiced chicken soup. The menu is great, and the desserts looks amazing but unfortunately I've not yet managed to squeeze one in. The drinks are a decent price, and they have wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The staff are really friendly and attentive without overcrowding you, it sort of feels like your friend's parents house.

I was very hungry from traveling all day seeing the Beatles sites so I ate it anyway, but it was very mediocre. It tasted like Chuck E. Cheese pizza quite frankly, my brother got the americana pizza. It had pepperoni on it. He said it tasted junk but that wasn't the end of the line my other brother got the vegetarian pizza he described it as frozen. He didn't like the pizza because it tasted too dehydrated. It did not have wet sauce. The pizza stayed completely intact. If you held it completely upside down, the toppings were like glued on, and they didn't really have a particular taste. Everything just kind of tasted extra chewy, but without any sort of spice, we tried the different sauces in order to make it taste a bit better and I have to say that adding the tomato sauce on top did help to Live in it a bit, but it really still fell short of something worth paying for it to sit down restaurant. My mother got lamb kebab. She described it as good and it was all right so nothing really crazy if you wanna get a bite I think you should go somewhere else personally but I hope you enjoyed my review. Cheers!

With a bring your own booze policy this is a popular place for groups and will be a busy venue around Christmas time. No wonder she was keeping it secret, easy to do in this not so salubrious location, as this family run Greek restaurant is hard to beat on quality and value. Decor, music, menu and owner( George) are most definitely Greek but ably helped by his scouse son and daughter to bring that bit of the med to a Liverpool back street. The menu has a great range of fine char grill cooked meat, and other greek favourites including excellent home crafted soups, dips, salads, stuffed vine leaves etc and the mezes is hard to finish ( both the meat and veggie version). My favourite is the succulent and tender chicken kebabs but my vegetarian sister says the plaki ( butter beans in tomato) beans are hard to beat. The place is favourite of many university staff and students located just across the road from the main campus and lunch and evenings find the initiated enjoying quality fresh cooked mediterranean fare in the friendly company of George, I recommend you try it.

This particular Greek offering is located outside the hustle and bustle of the city centre and thus is more intimate an experience. Forget waht your inhibitions are about the "kebab" and give their Souvlakia Kebabs a whirl. Trust me you won't regret it. I also tried the sea food platter which was delicious and consisted of smoked salmon, mackerel, taramosalata, cocktail prawns, pickled octopus, crab and caviar garnished with lettuce and parsley. Is that delightful or is that delightful. There are just so many mouth watering options this place will have you coming back for more. Even if you are a vegan they can cater for you. I had some of my friend's Mosaka and normally I'm not too pleased with the vegetarian dishes but this one I did fancy. The Mosaka comprises of layered potatoes aubergines and courgettes topped with cheese sauce cooked in individual ceramic dish which gives it a unique and tasty flavor. To add to all this the prices are very reasonable and normally it will set you back less than £20 per person which is fantastic given the generous portions of food you receive. This is one Taverna I will be paying a visit again in the near future, why don't you have a gander good people!!

With its extremely good value 3 courses for £9.99 deal Sunday to Tuesday then their still pretty appealing 2 courses for £12.95 Weds to Saturday you can have a good old feed here and not break the bank (although you might need to wear your elasticated waist trousers...the last time I went with a friend on a Tuesday night she insisted on me ordering a dessert even though I was full. "But I can't eat it!" I said. "Never mind, she replied, "I'll eat it for you. But you HAVE to order it because it's part of the deal!!!" I had to practically roll her home... The menu is actually rather an odd mix of styles in my opinion with a mix of British (roasts), American (burgers), classic French (pates and steaks), Mediterranean (feta salads and calamari) Jamaican and Asian (plus last time I was in they were playing Spanish or Mexican music - go figure) but to be honest you don't go to Bistro Noir for continuity of culinary style. The starters are always tasty and a decent size and the main courses rarely a disappointment. I always really enjoy the Jamaican goat curry and there is a beautiful Sri Lankan chicken curry that I thoroughly recommend. And keep your eyes open for the specials...I once had a fillet steak with Stroganoff sauce and creamy mash potatoes. I still drool now thinking about it. I rarely eat a dessert when out for an evening meal so I tend to sample the B.N puds and cakes when in there for a coffee sometimes of an afternoon. They do a gluten free chocolate torte which is a little piece of heaven on a plate. And as a woman who is extremely fussy about how I like my coffee, I have to say their lattes are second to none. All in all a big thumbs up from me. Fine dining it ain't but tasty food in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere it is. And you'll have money left over for drinks on Lark Lane afterwards...

But this wasn't a problem for me, and the ambience is probably more sophisticated during the evening. The cake and dessert selection is a big thing here with everything being made from scratch. Vegetarian options on the menu were enough - a soup of the day, panninis (?) and a couple of mains. I enjoyed my choice of baked red pepper stuffed with couscous, sundried tomatoes, olives and with a pesto over the top. I specifically asked, and the chips are definitely handcut on the premises. Everything on the plate was as it should be. Chips, albeit handcut, seems to be a bit of a fallback to fill out the vegetarian option in British 'bistros'. For me, the couscous stuffing here was more enjoyable and healthful than the chips. The service was friendly and attentive, although I did feel that one waitress was haring around the tables a bit much - a wee bit more serenity does wonders for the digestion, I find! Price is definitely right - I don't have the receipt to hand, but £6.99 is my recollection. I would have no problems with eating here again. If you like the ambience of West Didsbury in Manchester you might like to checkout Lark Lane, which has similar options for comparing the menus of a tight concentration of 'foodie' restaurants and pubs before making your choice. And with Sefton Park, the regenerated Festival Gardens and Riverside Walk (basically, a new promenade along the side of the River Mersey) nearby, this part of the world is definitely worth a visit.
