The food was just ok , poor service . If I compare , Gusto is 3 out of 10 , Pizza express is 9 out of 10 . Definitely won't go there any more , the only point is Beautiful view .

I recently worked with a guy who would not stop going on about this place. He talked about it so much and suggested it to clients so often I suspected that he must have shares in the place. The fact that he was a tit meant that I came here with a pretty biased point of view but one that was quickly dismissed. A little cheaper than I was expecting, Gusto nonetheless offers a good selection of Italian/Mediterranean influenced food. The pizzas are very good value at the same prices as you would pay for a dominoes but for that real, stone bake quality with much fresher toppings. It's a classy joint too with a simple decor that makes it feel like a posh dining experience, without costing a fortune.

Gusto is a great Italian restaurant on the dock, ideal for a cosy meal for two, or a family evening out. It's the place I go if I fancy something nice but not ridiculously priced. It is usually very popular so I'd always advise booking in advance, but if you do pop in and have to wait, the Pumphouse pub is seconds away. I like the fact that even though it is very busy, the staff aren't rushing you out of your seat, they always welcome you to take your time and enjoy the atmosphere. The food is delicious, I'd recommend the pasta with salmon and vegetables and the espresso and amaretto ice cream. The prices are really decent, the bill for two of us plus two drinks each was only about £40.

Gusto is an Italian restaurant with more class than most if I'm honest which is mainly down to its great location which builds a fantastic ambience. The location within the docks is great and although the prices are bumped up here it is well worth the money you may spend. This is the kind of restaurant you would visit for an important occasion such as a Birthday and I guarantee it would be a treat for all. As with all of the dock area this place is very aesthetically pleasing and has extremely nice decor inside. This is such a relaxing restaurant you can while away the night and feel completely at ease. The staff are fantastic and they demand from each other that the standards are high from one another which results in exceptional service for the customer. On the whole a great classy restaurant which is well worth a visit.

Mushroom risotto w/pancetta. Very tasty and the perfect amount of salt!

I'll be honest...I thought this place would be a tourist trap. Very happy to admit that I was wrong. I came here on a Sunday (Mother's Day), and despite the large crowd, the service was great and the food came out promptly. I had the tiger prawn appetizer which was delicious (almost like a tomato bisque soup with lots of shrimp/prawns). It also came with some toast points which were perfect for dipping. I had the mushroom risotto w/pancetta for my entree and it was excellent. My only (minor) complaint is that I would've like more mushrooms. There was so much pancetta (and I'm not a big meat eater) so I would've traded some for more mushrooms. All in all I would order both dishes again, and I'll definitely be coming back here to eat again!

Situated close by to St. Alberts Dock and undecided what cuisine I fancied eating on a Saturday night we plumped for this place. We hadn't booked and although the place was buzzing, we were seated at a table straight away. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the decor is stylish. The waitress who served us was lovely and friendly, and engaged us in conversation about our weekend visit to Liverpool. Anyway back to the food! The food arrived in good time, with the pizza I had ordered being crispy and packed full of toppings - yummy! The mojitos went down rather well too not too much mint in them. This is a great restaurant for couples and large groups, with the restaurant being dimly lit giving it that sophisticated feel. You are able to glance over at the chefs at work in the kitchen too, which all adds to the dining experience. A fab restaurant that impressed me with its food and customer service.

Gusto…read moreis located on the Albert Dock in the centre of Liverpool city centre and is a really trendy up market restaurant with a fantastic buzz about it. Serving up classic Italian dishes such as carbonara, lasagne and ravioli to name but a few, this place has a really good feel about it. The staff are friendly and professional throughout and the food is fantastic. All food is cooked fresh to order so there may be a little bit of a wait but trust me the wait is well worth it. The portion sizes are good and don't leave you feeling that you've eaten half a whale! In fact I'd go as far to say they are just right. I can polish off three courses no problem. Calamari to start, followed by classic spaghetti carbonara and an excellent creme brûlée to round off the meal. They also have a fantastic cocktail bar which shelves the best pina colada I have ever tasted. You wouldn't want it before a meal though because it is quite heavy and could fill you up quite easily. They do serve a fantastic mojito and a great daiquiri if that's your thing? Now you will have to book to get in here. You'd be very lucky to get a table if you just walk in off the street without a reservation. That to me is a sign of a good restaurant though. Saturday nights are usually rammed as you would expect but I'd still recommend booking a table mid week if your planning to go there? I'd very much recommend this place to anyone who appreciates good Italian food in a fresh vibrant environment and likes a drink or two.

Because my bf and I weren't familiar with the area, I just googled "gluten-free food" and this restaurant came up and looked pretty positive. By the time we walked there, it was very busy. And so incredibly lucky, as the host said we were the very last walk-ins they could accept, loud with clamour and guests talking over each other. I'm sorry they had to turn away the one other couple behind us, but I was scared too because I wouldn't know where else to get allergy sensitive food. The thing is though, if you do have food allergies here, everyone always tells you that you have to speak up about it every time. I guess I didn't because I always figured I'd just work around my problems. So my host/server always told me I needed to mention that to all the people coming to take my orders. I convinced my boyfriend to try some of the pate -- which came with a piece of gf bread and cucumbers, he didn't like it, but I enjoyed it. It was smooth and creamy -- but also, I felt that I needed more salt as the flavor was semi-bland too. Adding in more salt or pepper isn't really an issue with me, that's why they put those on the table. But bf got some really cheesy lasagna and I got a gluten-free pizza. The crust was thin and had the right texture of chewy-ness and flavor. It was incredibly delicious and delightful. It also took awhile longer, I'm sure the chefs have to be very careful about food contamination, which is why you have to constantly remind servers about your allergies so they can relay it to the back. Which reminds me, by the end of the night, I ordered a basic vanilla gelato. I thought this probably doesn't have any wheat in it! So I ordered it with one of the circulating servers, but our host at the front came over (I wish I remembered his name :( ) came over and took the bowl away because I forgot to tell this server I'm gluten-sensitive. So my bad! But it took so long for the gf gelato to come out. But it was one of the best vanilla gelato's I've ever had. Like nothing compared to any I've tasted in California. I'd definitely recommend this place. Staff was very attentive and food was excellent.

We went there after typical lunching hours and found the place still pretty busy with folks cycling in and out. I heard that the line goes out the door at dinner, so I figured we'd try it out. The huge pane glass window allows ambient light in, then it's classically lit on the inside with yellow lighting to give that Lady and the Tramp effect. :) I ordered one of the daily specials, Risotto Italia, that had diced chicken, slices of ham, onions, mushrooms all in tomato sauce. It was fine, but a little heavy on the sauce. The sauce was good, but it buried the risotto. My dish wasn't nearly as good as Liz's Tortellini Italiana, which came in a meat sauce under baked cheese. The consistency of the crusting cheese was great, and the meat sauce was generous with the meat. We also tried the Bruschetta Tricolor which was a great balance of a caprese salad over a fresh bread and pesto... it was really good. I really enjoyed by visit to Casa Italia. It was very well priced, and I can see why its popular. You get a lot for a little... even with the picodillo (small) portions. Reservations need only be made for groups greater than 6. As you walk in, it strikes you that the space is larger than it looks from outside, with slate floors and tables in similar tones with simple wooden furniture, but the restaurant is dominated on one side by the giant ornate wooden bar, which takes the centre stage. The rest of the restaurant is decorated in shades of olive (a natural choice, with "L'Olivetto" translating to "The Olive Grove"), but is rather minimalist, meaning that it can feel a little stark. I think if the tables had simple white tablecloths, or if there were some curtains or plants, it would make the venue feel a bit more cosy, and would absorb the echo a little bit. Not to say that it's not pleasantly decorated, with some fab quirky decorating features! The bar also had some great little additions that you might not think about. There is a glass containing reading glasses, for those who inevitably forget to bring theirs and have to squint at the menu, as well as two variations of a loyalty card, one for the daytime crowd, promising free coffee and cake, and the other for the evening crowd, offering a free bottle of house wine. A nice touch! The menu is split into several options, including a lighter meals section, set meals, and general a la carte. The tables also have promotions on them, mentioning how each night there is some variation of a special offer, such as 20% off on tuesdays, and a half price bottle of prosecco with your meal on "Fizzy Fridays". The prices generally are very good too, considering everything is made fresh to order. We chose to start with Funghi Impanali, breaded mushrooms which gave a good crunch before giving in to some incredibly tasty and juicy mushrooms that had been sauteed in garlic butter. When somewhere can take something as simple as breaded garlic mushrooms and make it truly tasty and impressive, that's a good sign! For our mains, I chose the Pollo Saltimbocca from the light lunch menu, which comprised of chicken fillets wrapped in parma ham sautéed with olive oil, garlic and sage. I accompanied this with a couple of side dishes of Patate Saltate, which is potatoes sauteed with onions, garlic and parsley but which visually was a bowl of absolutely mouth watering looking little roast potatoes! They were crunch and delicious and very moreish! I could eat a whole bowl of them for a snack! I also had the spinach tossed with onion, garlic and parmesan, My main and sides were delicious, and I was really impressed with both the taste and the price. Phil R opted for the classic Spaghetti Carbonara; spagetti with diced pancetta in a rich cream sauce with parmesan, he was also given the option to add additional chicken to the dish, which he did gladly. For his side, he chose to try the zucchini fries, which came with a garlic aioli for dipping, and which were unsual but pretty tasty! We'd seen them appearing a lot in trendy restaurants, so it seemed a perfect opportunity to give them a try (try them, seriously!). Phil R was completely taken aback by the quality and flavours of his pasta, and was singing its praises and making happy noises throughout. We've been to Rome and Pisa and eaten *actual* Italian food, and he didn't sound as impressed then as he did by this meal! Well done, L'Olivetto! We were given dessert menus, but had already been sneakily noseying at the cake chiller cabinet in the corner of the restaurant, and had made up our minds already! I chose to go for the cherry crumble, served cold, with cream, and Phil R chose to go for the triple chocolate gateaux. We were both smitten with our choices, which were delicious and great quality. We were told they were from an actual nearby Italian bakery, keeping the Italian flavours going throughout. Some of the desserts were prepared freshly in house too... we'll try them next time! The service was friendly and professional, the food was absolutely superb and of a great quality and value, and the venue was bright, modern, and spotlessly clean. It was also nice at the end of my meal to see that they had a selection of teas available, so I had an Earl Grey to round it all off. Perfect. If you're near Liverpool, go along and give them a try, they're really worth it. We decided that we'd be happy enough to drive over there from Bolton if we fancied a nice meal and experience, because that's one thing they really delivered. Bravissimo, L'Olivetto!
