Good Bbq place with large portions …read more A block away from the famous Cavern pub , so after some entertainment, it nice to have dinner in a quiet place. Friendly service too.

Hello mates, first of all this place is very mediocre as most of my family said from this place…read more First of all, we got the margarita pizza and it was decently good. I was very hungry from traveling all day seeing the Beatles sites so I ate it anyway, but it was very mediocre. It tasted like Chuck E. Cheese pizza quite frankly, my brother got the americana pizza. It had pepperoni on it. He said it tasted junk but that wasn't the end of the line my other brother got the vegetarian pizza he described it as frozen. He didn't like the pizza because it tasted too dehydrated. It did not have wet sauce. The pizza stayed completely intact. If you held it completely upside down, the toppings were like glued on, and they didn't really have a particular taste. Everything just kind of tasted extra chewy, but without any sort of spice, we tried the different sauces in order to make it taste a bit better and I have to say that adding the tomato sauce on top did help to Live in it a bit, but it really still fell short of something worth paying for it to sit down restaurant. My mother got lamb kebab. She described it as good and it was all right so nothing really crazy if you wanna get a bite I think you should go somewhere else personally but I hope you enjoyed my review. Cheers!

Deli Fonseca is one of the few places that makes me wish I was loaded…read more A fab independent deli in Liverpool's business district, it's packed floor to ceiling with all kinds of mouthwatering goodies. The gigantic counter displays a myriad of delicious cheeses, hams, olives, pates, anti-pasti and salads whilst the nearby baskets display fresh sticks and loaves of bread. To top it off, they have dozens of wooden shelves groaning with all kinds of lovely store cupboard treats from organic granola, cereals and cookies to oat cakes, chutneys, olive oils, vinegars, sauces and spices. Now, where did I put that darn lottery ticket?

Nothing complicated - in the end, I ordered a Greek salad and a plate of Serrano ham rather than the pricier mains on the blackboards. I'm not sure how two really basic things could be so disappointing. I think it's because on the surface, this looks like a place that prides itself on sourcing and attention to detail. On the specials during my visit were such items as hand foraged local samphire, Cumbrian lamb and Pink's award winning sausages. So why was the Greek salad about 50% raw onion? Why did it feature those mealy crunchy supermarket basics tomatoes, cold from the fridge? Even the black olives mentioned on the menu were green. And they clearly did have black olives in the kitchen, because my four slices of Serrano ham (almost £6) came topped with a single olive. They boasted it was "20 month aged" - most of it had clearly been in their fridge, as it featured a faint tang of refrigerator and managed to be unpleasantly rubbery. Not sure how Serrano ham can even go rubbery but there you go. If you've boasting of excellent ingredients then it's unacceptable for the basics to fail so badly. I wouldn't bother returning.

With a bring your own booze policy this is a popular place for groups and will be a busy venue around Christmas time. The food, as you expect from Greek restaurants is good, hearty and a little too rich anytime of the year but it has a very warm feel to the place which is helped I think by it's out of the way location behind the university which makes you and your fellow diners feel like you know something the rest of the city doesn't.

No wonder she was keeping it secret, easy to do in this not so salubrious location, as this family run Greek restaurant is hard to beat on quality and value. Decor, music, menu and owner( George) are most definitely Greek but ably helped by his scouse son and daughter to bring that bit of the med to a Liverpool back street. The menu has a great range of fine char grill cooked meat, and other greek favourites including excellent home crafted soups, dips, salads, stuffed vine leaves etc and the mezes is hard to finish ( both the meat and veggie version). My favourite is the succulent and tender chicken kebabs but my vegetarian sister says the plaki ( butter beans in tomato) beans are hard to beat. The place is favourite of many university staff and students located just across the road from the main campus and lunch and evenings find the initiated enjoying quality fresh cooked mediterranean fare in the friendly company of George, I recommend you try it.
