Great little place to have dinner with lots of veggie and vegan options. Friendly wait staff and very reasonable prices all small plates to share the fare is absolutely delish.

Imagine lots of little plates with different tastes, textures and flavours that dance across the tongue. Some contain: Salted almonds Potato croquettes Sourdough toast with olive oil and balsamic Acorn-fed iberico ham Patatas bravas & Padron peppers sprinkled with sea-salt Other contain: Honeyed almonds Slices of manchego & mont enebro Beautifully seared scallops & crushed peas & Goats curd with apple, walnut and rocket salad Now imagine following these plates with: Warm churros and melted chocolate sauce & a lovely glass of wine or sherry Delivered by a fast and friendly waitress Resistance is futile, right?

It was a long, lazy lunch in Liverpool, lovies. Sunday afternoon of a Bank Holiday Weekend. The sun is shining to the point where people don't understand it anymore. The kind of bright sun that makes even the darkest of buildings appear freshly painted...that kind of sun. It was glorious -- and thus, my husband was sun burned and we had 3 hours to kill before our train back to London, so we opted for a leisurely lunch at Salt House Tapas. Typically, aforementioned red-faced partner is very anti-tapas (small portions of regular food, at regular prices he says)...but something about the way Salt House looked made me want to give it a try. And -- I have to agree with him on this one, the food was just so-so and not priced to match quality, presentation or panache. Let's start with the good: DRINKS & olives & almonds. The cocktails we enjoyed were quite lovely. I basked in a bloody mary then moved to an elderflower fizz (both under 6 quid) and quite enjoyed the infamous olives (of which you can buy tins "to take away" as it were), the almonds also very nice. Then things sort of devolved. We did the "Pick 3" menu for roughly 11 quid each...and had an array of dishes. Jamon croquettas, lentil/pea salad with yogurt, chicken/lamb skewers, charcuteria, etc etc. I will say, it is the saddest looking little charcuteria board I ever did see. Protip Salt House, get smaller boards or bigger meats, otherwise ish just looks skimpy. The rest of the dishes were pretty so/so. The jamon croquettas being the standout, but fried ham, hello? When does this not stand out? Ahem. Our service was pretty good -- as it was a busy afternoon with the first sunny weekend maybe ever in Liverpool. No complaints there. The interior is quite nice, stylish in a rustic way, very comfortable and a nice spot right near all the shopping and within easy distance of Lime Street Station. AOK, indeed. AOK.

I was so pleased we came across Salt House Tapas the other weekend - after wondering around the docks and being faced with pub lunches, pub lunches and more pub lunches, we didn't really know what to do with ourselves. Knowing we had to be ready to eat well that evening at 60 Hope Street, we didn't want anything too filling, and Salt House Tapas gave us the perfect meal. We were seated straight away and presented with our menus, offering sourdough and 3 plates of tapas for £10.95, which was just what we needed. The menu, although not vast, was very tempting and we couldn't wait to get stuck in. Pan roasted peppers, belly pork, cauliflower and chickpea tagine, chicken and chorizo skewers on flatbread, and ham croquettes. Yum. Everything comes as and when it's ready, meaning you always have that excitement related to your meal coming. My stand outs were the skewers, where the chicken had remained moist and the chorizo had none of the annoying chewiness usually associated with it, and the peppers, which weren't what I was expecting (in a good way!) It did take a while for the bill to come and plates to be cleared, hence the 4 stars. The tables also felt a little bit close together, which I think could be improved, considering the size of the place. Overall, a memorable experience and one I would be completely willing to revisit!

The first time I visited the Salt House Tapas in Liverpool it was about a year ago with Dad. We had the tasty lunch menu and a glass of wine, and when we told Mum she was super jealous. Therefore it seemed natural to take her there this weekend for her Birthday / Mother's Day celebrations. Having booked in advance for a pre-theatre shindig we were able to dine from the lunch menu which is a tasty price of £10.90ish for 3 plates of tapas and some bread and oil mmm. With the four of us there, we picked 12 dishes including jamon croquettes, a charcuterie board, chorizo, belly pork and more. The plates arrive as they are made freshly, which some people don't like, however personally for tapas I think it's great as those small dishes are quite filling and it spreads your meal out over a really nice amount of time! I really like the atmosphere here, the food is tasty and especially for the lunch menu it is very reasonably priced. The waitress was very helpful, however the loos are far away down a cold and confusing corridor - of course there's worse things that could happen at a restaurant. If you're out in Liverpool and fancy something quick, tasty and easy to eat I would definitely recommend the Salt House Tapas.

Dinner was delicious! We followed the recommendations on yelp and chose the Salt House Tapas but to late for reservations- however they kindly worked us in. I was a bit taken back by the image of ham with the hoof attached but soo glad we stayed. We sat upstairs and our server a young lady I think Julie sorry if I'm wrong was GREAT- asked her to order for me, she did great- the stand out orders were the Mushrooms and the Goat cheese

Tasty food. The usual tapas choices: shrimps, meatballs, meat and cheese platters. Attentive service. Warm and fun atmosphere.

He paused briefly, and then suggested the sizzling prawns; he was spot on, they were sweet and succulent and set off wonderfully by the hint of heat in the oil.

I'm from California & live in Toronto, Canada - you can tell Californians because when we live other places we whine about not getting a good burrito. Yes, but I'm in Chester - I wasn't expecting anything or trying to emulate 'home' - we were just walking by & a bit hungry so we popped in thinking it'd be kitschy & cool. Wow. Srsly. The food is a mixture of cuban, spanish, mexican, brazilian, etc. I had a burrito. I would actually rate the burrito a bit better than most of what passes in Toronto. The service was awesome, even tho I hadnn't quite tuned my 'English' ears yet (was needing translation). However the margarita was world-freakin-class. I was expecting some sort of margarita mix/tequila mixture, but it honestly tasted like fresh lime and tequila - like an authentic margarita. It - was- awesome. I doubt I'll have many chances to visit Chester again, but if I do, I'm totally hunting down this place. For expats who might be in the area: check this out for your burrito fix! Wait, now I want to visit Chester again soon and get all around their menu. nom nom nom

There are also non-alcoholic cocktails like Raspberry Ripple too, I plumped for an interestingly titled cocktail called 'Dave'. They all come in fancy glasses so you can do your best Del-Boy impression with the parasols and cherries! They are not cheap though at £5+ for some, so perhaps a place to visit for one round only. There is also a dance-floor in the centre of a good size, which I'm sure was packed later in the evening. Fiesta Havana also does food too, but although we enquired the wait time was too long, by virtue of its popularity. The dishes that came past us looked tasty and were predominantly tapas.

Named after the liquor which gin evolved from, it's a contemporary gin bar and cafe, with over 50 types of gin. It's easy to find and very much in the heart of Hope Street, so an easy stop if you're in the area. What struck us at first was just how bright it felt - after spending so long hanging around in what most people would refer to as dive bars, this took us by surprise! Although this did lend itself to the contemporary feel, it didn't feel especially welcoming. We managed to grab a spot on the sofa at the edge of the room after a small wait at the bar. It's worth noting that this is not a large area, so prepare to be standing or move very quickly when you see someone leave... The bar is also very small, with only two people service, so it did feel like an effort to get anyone's attention. The gin menu is very extensive, with a small description for each option. We were happy to spot a family favourite in Adnam's, so the other half had this with tonic, and I went for a bramble cocktail. It was very tasty and not too sweet, with just the right amount of blackberry. Food is available in the form of tapas, which looked good, but it was hard to decide whether they were focusing on the food or the gin more. The extensive gin list obviously says the latter, but the predominantly table seating says otherwise.

The ingredients used in the dishes taste deliciously fresh, and while I can only speak for the seafood and fish the other members of my party raved about the chicken, pork and beef, and there was plenty of choice for veggies as there should be in a tapas selection (think patatas bravas, Spanish tortilla, garlic mushrooms and soforth). If you're needing something more substantial than picky bits then I'd heartily recommend the paella to share between two, as there'll be enough for your friends to dive into as well. There's so much choice so small portions are perfect for sampling everything.
