Short and to the point review for good short and to the point service. My truck's radiator blew and needed it towed to my mechanic. Called, got a reasonable quote ($77) from Gainesville to Alachua. They were on the scene about 25min after my call. Got my truck hooked up without any damage, charged me what was quoted, and then delivered the truck. No way to improve the service I received unless it could magically be free. I hope I don't need a tow anytime soon, but I'll be calling these guys if I do. read more

Do not use this towing company (especially with any form of luxury car). I was recently involved in an accident, and the police officer that came to the scene called this tow company because I was unfamiliar with the area. Wait time was typical for a flat bed, but service was terrible... Not only did the employee that came out not know how to hook up my car (after flipping through his 500 page manual, he ended up having to call his superior), after towing my BMW to their yard, they left my window open and taped a TRASH BAG over it. They could have easily closed my window if they had just powered on the vehicle (my vehicle still had power, only the engine was disabled) and given it ONE ATTEMPT. Luckily for me, it rained that night and my interior was soaked. The cost of my repair increased by over $5,000 because of the water damage in my vehicle (the repair shop had to replace my interior carpet, door panel, and speakers as they were all full of water). Here's the best part: Shelby's towing denies any responsibility (even 2 months later)! Good for you guys. Creating problems for your customers and then making THEM deal with them. read more

I wish I could give them a 0. They are crooks & I saw what other people posted about the same things happening to them I just saw the reviews after it happened to me. I went to renew my car registration & they sent it back to me and said there was a "wrecker operator Lein" placed on my license. I didn't even know what that was, I haven't heard anything or had any issues then I find out 1.5yrs ago when I was in a car accident my car was towed by whoever called (the cops I guess) so I didn't pick these people but anyway it was 5min away from there location. They towed my totaled car when I went off in ambulance & my insurance company took care of stuff for me. Well I never heard anything.. the car was left with them to do what they do & break it down and they get parts and $ off that too. No one ever called me. I didn't get a bill of any sort.. now 1.5yrs later they do this threatening I owe $365! For what?! So basically these ppl have more power than they should over people's license and they can pick whatever insane price they want or I can't renew my tag. And why charge me so much? It was 5min away & u get extra $ cause you keep the car. So I called & the lady is very rude & has a I don't care attitude no matter what I said. I asked questions about pricing. I asked if she could lower it. Wanted to know why no one contacted me this whole time. She then made me come in person to pay. Ok so I do that. Then she tells me nothing but cash. Really? Why.. so I made sure I got the paperwork I needed before I left. I had to go to bank to get her cash. She was so rude, noncaring & just out to get your money. Stunningly HORRID experience with these total and complete CROOKS!!! The system here requires that I enter some kind of "star" rating here on Yelp, but won't accept a zero star rating, which is what I would want to give them. My daughter's scooter was stolen from an apartment complex in early November. I told her to report it to the police, which she did-- to an "Officer McCarthy". All we have is his cell phone, which comes up empty on a Google search. She filled out the police report, and then got a call from said officer a couple of weeks later, the day before Thanksgiving. We were told the scooter HAD to be towed immediately, as it was on private property (less than a mile away from her apartment complex, by the way). We were also informed by the officer that it had to be towed exclusively by Shelby's Towing, with whom the Gainesville Police Department supposedly have an exclusive contract. Naturally, being right before Thanksgiving, my daughter had already left to come back south for the holiday, and this towing company charges $16 per day for "storage". The scooter was only worth about $900 when it was new, now it's two years old, and has been outside the whole time. We've already sunk about $600 in repairs over the life of the scooter. My daughter's attitude was, "they can just have it-- I'll walk to class now". More days passed by without our knowing of this towing company's scam, with more charges accruing. Now, they want $468 for towing/storage-- services that WE NEVER APPROVED, for a scooter that's worth less than that! Here's the kicker: they are SO NASTY, that they threatened us that they would PUT A LIEN ON THE TAG if we didn't pay (for services that- again- we never approved!!! I Googled this company, and found more people have reported my experience- almost exactly- but are helpless to do anything about it... I doubt the Gainesville Police department is "in on it", but I'm not entirely sure- if they have an exclusive contract with the G-Ville police (a contract that must be highly coveted amongst towing companies), then they are complicit, in that I am being forced to use a company who can charge whatever they want. I strongly suspect this company actively steals these scooters from kids (either directly, or with some cohorts), and then hopes the kid files a police report-- then, the scooter is miraculously "found" after a plausible waiting period after the report-- in our case, suspiciously RIGHT BEFORE a major holiday, ensuring that the college student would not be in town, so they can accrue storage fees. So-- WHATEVER you do, if you need towing in Gainesville, Florida, you are best served to avoid these crooks like the plague!!! Very unhappy about this outright extortion! This company is the biggest ripoff going on in Gainesville. They take advantage of these college kids. My daughter's scooter was towed there after it was stolen and found by the police department. We were originally told it would be $100 to get out when she went there they want $500 or they're going to auction off. Biggest rip off shame on them. I called this company to ask a simple question and was hung up on when asking for clarity and elaboration over the answer they gave me so I could figure out how to handle a situation in which I need to have someone towed from a lot where I am renting. Customer service is so dead. You could have spent another 30 seconds on the phone with me, and answered me, or said, that's really all I know about this and I can be of no further assistance.
