After…read moreyears of intermittent hard 1-2 shifts, tranny overheating, pcm problems and finally torque converter failure, it was time to have the 42RLE auto fully rebuilt. Three local trans shops, incl. a Jeep dealership, were even reluctant to work on it due to possible electrical issues. Removed the tranny and delivered to Robert who not only located the main issues was in the valve body's internals (switch valve) and TC, he explained the needed repair in great detail even texting photos during the rebuild with follow up calls after repair. After reinstalling the tranny and following his advice on trans oil coolers, our Jeep has never shifted and performed better. I would highly recommend him for all transmission repairs. When I told him for the final time that he didn't need to know, he responded, "Well then you don't need to know, how 'bout that?" Enter into dealings with this company at your own risk.

I wasn't given turnaround time and with the games and events happening in Gainesville it got too late for me to get a rental. I honestly felt like they were purposefully not answering me or answering me at the end of the work day. I know I could've just gotten it but one of team members I know was truly trying to save me money by telling me to hold off on getting a rental until I heard from them. I ended up not getting a rental which was difficult with work. I ended up asking for some leniency at work and would bike (which was scary on Archer), but it was fine. I am very grateful and would definitely come here again but now I just have no expectations with regard to their communication.

Spoke with Brian, and as…read morewe talked, I mentioned that I would like them to check my wheel bearings, and as long as I was at it, would they also check my air conditioning. We talked about how the A/C had gradually stopped working . He said that a diagnostic test and check with fill of A/C would be around $ 200. He told me they would replace the power steering pump and check the wheel bearings. He said that the power steering pump would be around $ 420 total.... The wheel bearings would be expensive because they had to do a bunch of work and they are press on bearings. He said they would check them first before tearing into them. I made the appointment for Wednesday....because I had their assurance that the power steering pump would be there and the installation and the other work would be completed that day. I dropped the vehicle off on Tuesday afternoon, gave the keys to Gary. Wednesday afternoon, Gary called to tell me that "good news"...the wheel bearing all seemed good and made no odd noises so they did not have to be replaced. He then told me that there was a problem with the delivery of the power steering pump and they would not be able to finish the job on Wednesday. I then had to rearrange my schedule... I understand that sometimes things happen. Thursday, they called and said that my truck was finished and i could pick it up. I arrived at 4ish....they said everything was all set. I paid the bill....$ 667 which is what I expected for the pump and the A/C service. I left their garage and drove all the way to Twin Lake and got nothing but hot air blowing on me. I turned around, went back to see them and asked how long I had to wait until the A/C started blowing cold air. Brian, the original conversation guy, said he didn't remember talking about the A/C. I then looked at the bill and the only thing they charged me for was the power steering pump and didn't even check the A/C. So...they only missed the estimate for the pump by about $ 250 and didn't fix the A/C at all. On the plus side, they did check the wheel bearings and were honest about their condition. However....making me wait an extra day because they didn't order the part when I made the appointment, and overcharging (in my opinion) for the power steering pump left a bad taste in my mouth. They had 1 chance to leave a good first impression and they didn't. They dropped the ball and I won't be back, nor will I recommend them to anyone else.

This place is truly wonderful. After a *terrible* and *rude* experience at Tires Plus, I wanted a smaller, more local business. All Start Automotive was that answered prayer. Steve kindly answered the phone when I called to ask about changing an oil filter. He asked me a few questions and told me that it may not be anything to worry about, but that I could bring it in at that moment and they could check it out. Just for checking it out, he wouldn't charge me anything. It is less than a 10-minute drive from UF's campus, which is even more convenient. When I got there, I was met with a friendly smile and handshake, and they immediately took care of everything. Steve and I talked and he told me what they were doing and the possibilities surrounding why my oil filter might have been indicating it needed to be changed, even though I had my oil changed just in July. The mechanic that actually attended to my car (I can't remember the name, I'm sorry!) was so nice and he did quick work. He even filled up my windshield wiper fluid and he and Steve checked out my tires and everything. They did not charge me at all, but I still gave a tip because they saw me so last minute and are just so honest and nice. I felt bad about what I didn't know about my car, and Steve took the time to explain it but he also was very reassuring that it's perfectly normal. He even gave me some information about Nissan and about buying a car in the future. I wish I found Steve and his crew earlier so that I could have avoided a lot of headaches. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone!!! Their pricing for an oil change was very reasonable (even though I didn't need one), and you know that you're getting the best deal and the best service. read more

My car has been an absolute lemon for a while now, but in the past 6 months repair shops have allowed me to funnel $750+ into "bandaid" repairs without a word. When my car eventually broke down again (began smoking from the hood and shut off while driving in the middle of the night), I had it towed to All Star Automotive because I had heard great things about them. The next morning, I called to let them know my situation and inquire about repairs. A few hours later I got a call from All Star and was terrified to hear what it was going to cost me. However, I was lucky enough to be talking to Steve, who was incredibly compassionate and honest with me about the state of my car. He told me that he couldn't- in good faith- fix her up because of her age and condition, and that the other shops shouldn't have either because that money could have went towards buying a safe, reliable car. Not only was he the only person to be honest with me about the car, but he didn't charge me a dime for anything, even though he spent his time working on it and certainly deserves to be paid for it! THEN!!! He offered to let me keep it at the shop for as long as I need to get it figured out or sell it, and asked if I wanted his friend who buys junk cars come take a look at it. He's currently attempting to get a higher offer on it for me, and was kind enough to give me some good, new car suggestions. Now, I'm finally able to put my money towards a car that I can count on because of Steve's help, honesty, and kindness! Thank you Steve- you are truly an angel. read more

I always get worried that I'm going to get ripped off doing anything on my car in Gainesville. I'm a girl who really doesn't know anything about cars so it would be easy for someone to take advantage of that. All Star Automotive is honest and they don't try to scam you. The first time I went, I only needed an oil change and they told me that I really needed a new tire and it would be dangerous to continue driving on it. They don't even do that there so I knew for sure they were not trying to sell me something I didn't need. I even called Steve the next day and asked for his recommendations on places to get a tires because I knew I could trust him. I just went a second time and I was worries because I had a hair appointment really soon that I needed to get to. Even though they were super busy (like today) they got it done quickly and with a ton of time for me to get to my appt. Also, All-Star is close to the target/publix/starbucks so I kill time there until my car is ready. And there's a student discount! read more

This is my first Yelp review but I just had to share that Steve at *All Star Automotive* on NW 13th is awesome! I was just telling a co-worker earlier today that I have always found them to be one of the most straight-forward and honest repair shops around. This was just confirmed today when I called them about repairs I was having done at a dealership (covered under warranty). The dealership wanted me to do a number of other costly service items at the same time which I was skeptical about. I called Steve to ask him how much they would charge and what they would recommend and he said that the price the dealership quoted me was good and it made sense for the dealership to go ahead and do it now while they were replacing the part under warranty. I believe I have been a customer since either 2017 or 2018. I remember I went to another auto shop, and the one of the first thing they suggested was an ~$1,000 struts replacement. I had had unnecessary services performed before moving to Gainesville, but ironically let my guard down when I moved. When I went to All Star Auto, we did all the necessary maintenance, but they never suggested unnecessary services. My car runs great, and I just keep up my car manual's recommended maintenance schedule. Haven't had any issues with my car at all. There's something to be said about doing services that are actually needed, and doing them well. They're also very kind and considerate, and will do their best to fit you into the line up even if you have very limited availability to take your car. Steve and his team went above and beyond to help us out with a car problem. It involved us Fedex-ing keys and current registration to him , his employees walking to a parking garage, finding my daughter's car, getting it started and then driving it back to his garage for a week. He said there was no charge because they didn't really do anything. Did I mention, we were complete strangers and had never done business with All Star before. I found a recommendation for All Star on a Facebook UF Families forum. The work is finished quickly & of admirable quality. They are great overall mechanics & if anything is too specialized, they are honest about referring you to a business that can get the job done. For Example: -He made sure to order all of the necessary manufacturer's fluids/parts for my new car for regular maintenance. -For my old car ('91 Toyota Cressida) he would do a great job of explaining what work really needed to get done vs. what would just be preferred by the manufacturer. The manager, Steve Pruitt, took in my car (it wasn't even a car they usually service) and looked it over to see if they could do it. They don't charge to look at it, so he told me that if they couldn't fix it that he'd recommend someplace else that could. The next day I heard back that they had fixed the problem, and they gave me recommendations for what to do in the future. Beyond thankful and happy with the service and hospitality from All Star. We have used All Star for a couple of years and have always received top notch service. Quick, efficient, no hassle! - They really got me excited when All Star was asked to replace the starter on my 67 Camaro and to check the car out for possible other issues: Steve and Co. replaced a couple of gaskets, hoses and fixed a few minor other things. The result: it's as if All Star was breathing new life into my classic car! The Camaro is running better than ever before, and the handling is dramatically improved. I have been a customer since the early '90s, and they have always over delivered in both honesty and quality service. They were able to fix the carburetor in my Wrangler that left the local dealer stumped the first time I went there based on a recommendation of a friend. Steve always makes time to make honest recommendations, he has never pushed unneeded repairs. Instead he makes a priority list for me to think about. I live about 45 minutes away, but I always make a point to take my Toyota Land Cruiser to Steve for major and minor repairs, they use quality parts and the price is always more than fair. read more

As my rating reflects, the service was as good as it gets. I called All Star Automotive the day before I brought my car in, was kindly dealt with, and had my issues properly addressed. Steve, the manager, was friendly and knowledgeable about cars. He was more interested in solving my problem than charging me out the wazoo, and had my car ready for me on the same day I checked it in. Although my issue was small (my left door was hanging and needed a couple of screws), I suspect All Star Automotive would have given me the same treatment if I had a larger issue. Steve Pruitt, the manager, was super helpful! My car broke down as I was trying to get home from picking up my daughter from the University of Florida. We barely made it to All Star Automotive, and got there right before they were closing. Steve was still very willing to help us!! Honest and highly skilled. My water pump blew on my Acura TSX. I was 120 miles away from home. Too far away for me to tow it home and fix it myself. They knew this and did not take advantage of the pricing quote to repair it. The price was fair. The job was completed quickly. Customer service was excellent. After so much bad service I've encounter the past 2 weeks I've decided it's time to acknowledge the businesses I value and All Star Automotive is one of them. For the past 28 years Steve has been keeping my cars in good working order. He's given me recommendations on new purchases, test driven them and squeezed me in for an oil change and check up when I've had to make unexpected trips north for family emergencies. I had bought my oil in advance because I originally wanted to change the oil to my car myself. However, I realized it was going to be a lot more work than I had thought. I ended up going to All Star Automotive. The service exceeded my expectations. The manager Mike was so helpful in so many ways. He also gives students great discounts. I would just recommend calling the store in advance to make an appointment before you go in because they get booked up pretty quickly. read more

I've taken two vehicles to All Star Automotive and have received prompt, reliable, trust worthy, and friendly service both times. Most recently I received an estimate from the Nissan dealership of $168, because they said the CV joints on my vehicle needed to be repacked. I brought the vehicle to All Star for a second opinion and they said that the nuts on both side were loose, so they tightened them for no charge. All Star saved me $168!!! read more

I had a bad run in with Hyundai Dealership and All Star Automotive saved me time and money. There are still honest mechanics out there folks. Steve was professional, courteous but most of all honest. He has earn my trust and a life long customer. The dealership told me I needed a job costing almost $3000 and these guy fixed my vehicle for 300 dollars. So do not look anywhere else for your car repair because this is where you should go. read more

I had issues with my transmission and battery. They got me in right away and were adamant that they check the transmission issue before doing the battery or oil change to make sure I didn't put money into it when it wasn't worth it. Turns out that I did need to take it to the dealership. Super helpful and kind and looked into my issues free of charge!! Sad days, though I had had some issues with it about a year prior, so not necessarily unexpected. I have been to Dad's before, and they had done good work on my brakes for the car, so I figured it was reasonable that this would be a good one for them as well. I was able to set up an appointment just a couple of days later, and brought the car in there. No issues on getting it checked in, and they worked on it that morning. Sadly, they were not able to find the leak in the system. I was going to have to take it to a specialist. However, they also did not charge me for the diagnosis, which was very nice of them! In the future you can bet that I am going to be going to Dad's for work on my vehicles, because they are an upstanding group that know how to treat customers.
