I was towed during spring break because someone actually peeled my sticker off of my car. When I went to the lot I saw my car and you could see the scraping nail marks. I parked in the lot beside the HIPP and went to pick up a pizza a block over. I've never had any issues parking in that lot before but when I found out that my car had been towed, I was MANIC. I don't live in Gainesville. I'm from Keystone! I couldn't get home and my grandfather had to come all the way from keystone to bail me out. Additionally, this past year my girlfriends family was in town and they parked at an apartment complex where there is roam towing and were away from the car for 15 minutes and came back to find it towed. I would give zero stars if I could. I've been treated with more respect by towing companies in Los Angeles California -- and that's saying something. I helped my friend get her car back from ultimate after she finished providing in home therapy to a client of hers. As Mental health therapists, we often go to people's homes to provide therapy in the home for convenience and benefit for the client. My coworker was towed during this time as the property she was at was poorly marked for visitor parking. When we arrived to the tow shop, we were treated with disrespect and rudeness by the man working, and were told that we should find different careers that pay better than counselors. We were also told that low income housing individuals are ignorant and dumb, that they riot and loot, and that being mentally ill is essentially a joke and is not a reason for poor decision making or difficulty. I was appalled by the bigoted and ignorant comments made by the man at this company, and appalled by his demeanor and utter lack of respect and decency during a stressful time for anyone who has found out their car has been towed while they're in hour 12 of their work day. While it's annoying and frustrating already to deal with losing your car, it was absolutely unacceptable to be treated the way we were treated by this company. The comments made were callous and insensitive, they were hurtful and offensive, and above all his professionalism did not exist in the least bit. The purpose of roam towing is to make life easier for people who have legitimate reasons to park at a certain place, be it a business or residence, not to make it more difficult and inconvenient for those very people Ultimate Towing purports to serve. Ultimate Towing sets a textbook example for doing the latter. On 10/15/16 at approximately 6:00pm at St. Croix Apartments, I heard a loud banging near my car so I rushed out to see what was going on and saw two guys readying my car to be towed. I immediately asked the guys what they were doing. I told them I am a resident of St. Croix and I can show them a copy of my lease to confirm this. Normal, reasonable individuals would give you a chance to back up your claim, but unfortunately, your employees either don't believe in customer service or are just trying to earn a quick buck. The guys pointed out that my decal was not a St. Croix decal but was for Grad II apartments and was expired. This decal was purchased back in March of 2016 from your office for $20. Your office was well aware that I reside in St. Croix and needed a decal for that apartment complex. I have never lived at Grad II apartments and there is no reason I should have one of those decals. In other words, YOUR OFFICE ISSUED THE WRONG DECAL to me, perhaps, in hopes of setting up future "business". Regardless, the decals are cryptic and don't necessarily mean anything. ie. 14S is the St. Croix one for this year through an examination of a few other cars parked on the lot. With regards to the expiration of the decal, in the past, I have always received notices to get a new decal and always have when prompted. I don't think many people constantly think of when their Ultimate Towing decal expires so this is an important step to legitimize your operations. This year, there was no notice left on my door or through email. So yes, there is a bit of negligence on my part and also on the part of whoever is responsible for leaving the notices, but if your employees listened to my explanation, this would not have been a problem when I tell them I live there, have a lease, and can prove that I am a resident of St. Croix. Absolutely zero discretion was used. The guy hooked my vehicle up and said that it would cost $50 cash to dismount the vehicle and that credit card was not an acceptable form of payment. He told me to "hurry up" as he was going to leave with my vehicle as fast as possible. Customer service at its finest, I suppose. I called a friend who said he could run the money over in 5 minutes. The guy told me he tried to give me a chance. Please note that he did not wait, not even 1 second, potentially for my friend to arrive. In any case, your guy towed my vehicle and likely left the parking brake engaged. The parking brake and VSC lights stay on now as a result of the tow. I will be getting my car inspected by Toyota to see if anything has been damaged, Upon arrival at your lot, I asked to see pictures of the violation and was told I would have to come back Monday. If my car was immediately towed, why were pictures not available? I also asked for an updated decal to prevent a repeat of this situation and was also told to come back Monday. There were at least 3 people in the office, so you were not short-staffed or anything. Why does it take until Monday for these very same people to bring out the decals? Ultimately, the pirates collected a booty of $100 for me to retrieve my vehicle. Whether or not you believe your company followed all statutes to the letter, the fact that your employees DO NOT LISTEN to any reasonable explanations and are only concerned with vehicle removal speaks volumes about how you operate as a business and what your priorities are. This was in essence a simple clerical mistake that could have been addressed and handled without the need for a tow and a resulting negative review. This is a perfect example of poor customer service and a prime reason why so many people, rightfully so, have a negative opinion of Ultimate Towing. read more

Tow truck driver pulled in front of my car, and hooked the car up while I was inside of the car. I honked the horn while he was backing up to my vehicle he continued to lift the vehicle. then he came and said that I had to pay him $50 to drop the car, or $100 if he had to take the car. when i refused to get out of the car, he called the police. when the officer arrived he said that he had a right to tow the car because it was in the lot. THIS WAS A LIE. after reading statute 71383-71507 he had no right to hook up an occupied vehicle on a private lot I lost half a day of work from this theft. After my car was towed by another tow company we had to walk to retrieve my car in 95 degree heat. I am almost 50 years old and have asthma. This is one of the worst companies ever. Our car was towed literally from out front door at 3:00 in the morning. The owner hung up on my boyfriend and I twice while we were trying to figure out when we could come get our car. After walking 45 minutes to the lot, he waited to let us in to get the car. During the payment process, he proceeded to make rude comments such as my "mouth" (I was not in the room) and stating "you're lucky I didn't damage your car". We did not talk to anyone else. He has terrible customer service, and a complete lack of common courtesy. On top of that, damage was actually done to the rear bumper. Small, but noticeable. When I went to retrieve my car, my driver's side door was unlocked. My car phone charger was missing. I don't normally take it out of the car. It's not on the car floor, the glove box, trunk or my purse/bookbag. When I said that I couldn't find the charger and asked if they had seen it, your towing company told me that "we don't do that to people's cars". Also, there was a black and yellow wire near the brake pedal area that came loose after my car was towed. I know I didn't make it become loose. I'm not sure what it's even for and it doesn't plug into anything as far as I can see. In addition, spending $100 to retrieve a person's car seems a little pricey, seeing as other towing companies in the area charge a lower price for the same thing. These guys are horrible. After being towed, I had a rational discussion with the manager Rennie who was kind and sympathetic. But then the owner of the company (Steve) got involved in my conversation and proceeded to tell me how I was wrong about where I parked and how I deserved to be towed. The problem is that Rennie had already made it clear that this was not an area that's well marked and I should write the city to address about this spot. Steve proceeded to show me pictures of when he towed my car and when I asked him if he could send them to me so I can use them for when I write the city, he says, "No. I've complied with the law. I am a long-time (approximately 5 year) gym member at Alter Ego Fitness and park in their parking lot right after work often to catch dinner or a snack before heading to the gym. Recently, I parked in Alter Ego's gym parking lot at the Sun Center and got dinner before trying to get to the gym as per my usual routine. When I got back to my car to try to change into workout clothes, I discovered my car was gone and was towed by Ultimate Towing. Actually, looking at the towing billl, it was towed 10 mins after I parked. I went into Alter Ego to ask what was going on with the towing situation in their parking lot and they did not know what was going on either. Alter Ego's manager and the person there that night at the desk gave me their contact info and said to have Ultimate Towing call them so they could validate I am a long-time paying customer at this location. I did as told by Alter Ego, but still had to pay $100 to get my car out of Ultimate Towing's pound. What good is Ultimate Towing doing for the city of Gainesville, FL by towing customers from the local downtown fitness center? Is this good for business? I see they are rated "F" by the Better Business Bureau. I complained to the manager of Alter Ego after I got my car back sans $100 and hope something is done of predatorial businesses like Ultimate Towing. If there is a change in the parking policy (note: I have parked at the Alter Ego Sun Center parking lot for 5 years now in the same capacity and fashion as the night of the towing and never once was towed previously), then why not give warnings or let the fitness center know to warn its customers not to park there as usual anymore. I am contemplating joining a different gym now because I don't want to get towed a 2nd time when I try to eat and go to the gym, which is sad because Alter Ego is the closest gym to my home. read more

I had a small dilemma with my old scooter which I left in Gainesville after I gifted it to a friend after I graduated last year. The scooter got toed and because it was so old and beat up, my friend (who hadn't been riding it for a while) didn't notice. I got the notification letter all the way in SC so I called UT to see if I could figure out the best way to resolve the problem. Stephanie (the owner) was so kind, understanding, and nice about the whole thing. She helped me out and chose not to charge for the demolition fee and I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to her. I found out late at night on a Monday and barely got any sleep dreading how this conversation was going to go since the only time I ever dealt with UT was while it was under ownership of the previous people and they were absolutely awful!!! If a car is parked in an apt complex you have a lease in they cannot tow it even if the tags are expired. They not only towed it, didn't inform my son for 10 days of where his car was at, but Ray became aggressive and rude and threatned my son. He said he didn't care if we called the police or local news, apparently he can just change the name of his business again. He scouts parking lots to tow cars, waits to collect more money, sends letter and then tries to intimidate college students out of their money. I have never had a worse business transaction in my entire life. I highly recommend that Sun Center in downtown Gainesville rethink their contract with Ultimate Towing. While I won't be patronizing any Sun Center businesses anymore because of their contract with Ultimate Towing, I highly encourage others that frequent these businesses to mention their displeasure with Ultimate Towing to the managers. Maybe they'll finally drop these predatory bullies if enough people complain! I write not about why I was towed, but to bring attention to the atrocious customer service I dealt with from Ultimate Towing. I was towed 2/9 from the Sun Center and when I went to pick up my car (~7pm) I was told by a younger woman (Casey) I could not dispute anything related to why I was towed until the manager (Drew) came in the next day and he'll be in from 10am-4pm. Perfectly reasonable. I show up just after 10am (after taking time off from work so I could make the trip). The middle aged woman working the window (I never caught her name) told me Drew wasn't in yet. I explained my frustration with taking time off to be here during a time he's supposed to be available. I waited 10 minutes at the window for her to text him and wait for his reply back. I was told she could not provide his cell number to me when I asked for it. Then a nice driver fellow, Lee, came over to see how he could help. After "a couple" of tries to call him, Lee reached Drew and apparently Drew would only be in starting at noon and "only for a little bit"...ambiguous. I explain to both the woman and Lee that I have a lunch appointment at noon and there's no way I'll be there at that time, but perhaps if Drew stays around, I'll be free after my appointment. After all, he was going to be around "for a bit", so maybe I could catch him afterwards. I ask to leave my phone number so that Drew can call me when he arrives-- my assumption was he would have some idea of how long he'd be staying, so maybe I could meet him. Lee provides me with a sticky note and I provide my name, cell number, and car info (make/license plate/etc) and I give it back to him. He brings it inside the office where the woman is. I leave. My appointment ended just after 1pm. Immediately afterwards I call the office-- I hadn't received a call so I think maybe I haven't missed him. The same woman picks up and says Drew was at the company at noon and waited for me but I never showed up!!! My mind is blown. I made it explicitly clear I was not going to be there at noon. There's absolutely no reason he should've been "waiting" for me. I also provided my phone number!! Ignoring all reason and logic for a second, even if for some reason there was any confusion about me being able to be there/versus not be there (which, again, there wasn't): 1) Why would I leave my phone number if I had planned on meeting him there? I would've just shown up, right? 2) If he were expecting me and I didn't show up...my phone number is right there! Why would he not call me?! When someone is late to an appointment I have with them, I call to confirm/see what's happening! I was beside myself. I asked if my phone number was there on the sticky note. It was, in fact. She did have my note. I ended the conversation asking when Drew would be in again. Of course, he was not going to be in for the rest of the day and he'd be back Monday. Here's a manager of a business who couldn't deal with a customer because he only comes in less than 1 hour that day. And I get it-- maybe there was an emergency-- but having worked in retail and customer service myself, I would at least call the customer during the time I am available and say "hey, I got your message that you want to talk about this, here's my cell number, let's set up a time". I got absolutely nothing. 2/11- A Sun Center property representative requested that Ultimate Towing refund me 1/2 of my towing fee. Steve, Ultimate Towing owner, has threatened to not provide the refund unless I remove my negative reviews of his company and sign an agreement preventing me from posting further reviews on social media! 2/13- Steve continued to insist I would not receive my refund unless I removed my reviews & signed the agreement to not post to social media. He also referred to my reviews as "libelous" several times. I informed him I was not interested in signing away my right to post about my experiences with his business, nor was anything I wrote libelous. He threatened me with his lawyer multiple times, but I would not back down b/c everything here is (unfortunately) factual. I asked for him to share the video recording that he states he has at his customer service window, as well as any phone records he may have, as these things would easily corroborate my review. This request in my email was ignored. After I continued to press for my refund he stopped answering & the Sun Center rep. reached out to me directly. Do not let these people bully you!! read more

Due to our work schedules, my fiance and I don't get to go out often. We only got around to going out to lunch for my birthday today. It was a great afternoon... Until we got back to where we'd parked, and couldn't find my car. At first, I thought it had been stolen, which scared me to death, but we soon learned that it had in fact been towed-- and only minutes after we'd parked, no less! Sure didn't take them long... Anyway, we had to walk all the way to the towing company, and as if the day hadn't already taken enough of a downturn, the person at the front desk was *extremely* rude. My fiance gallantly offered to cover the towing charge, but as soon as he got his credit card out, the front desk lady informed me that the card she charged had to be in my name, or it might look as if the car had been stolen off the lot. When we tried to explain the situation, she immediately got very huffy and pulled the manager out to the front, acting as if I was nothing but a nuisance. I relented and handed my card over, adding that she didn't need to have an attitude. She promptly flew off the handle, yelling at me that she had "...been very polite, and I do not have an attitude!!..." I believe this is what's referred to as *irony.* I attempted to cut her rant short by saying, "Look, I gave you my card." And she kept going! She kept yelling and carrying on, while the manager stood there and didn't do a thing to stop her. I've had jobs in customer service, the food industry, and retail, and if I'd behaved like that at any one of them, I would've been fired on the spot. How does this woman get away with being so out of control-- and right in front of her manager, at that? I understand that it wasn't an ideal situation for anyone involved, but if a person is going to be in that line of work, then they should be prepared to *calmly* deal with people who are none too pleased to walk out after a lovely afternoon downtown only to find their car is basically being held for ransom. I let her finish blowing off steam (not that there was any other option), and then I said, "Look, I gave you my card, it's right there, so I don't see any reason for you to continue yelling." Honestly-- I was cooperating, I'd given her what she'd asked for-- what else did she want? She seemed to be gearing up for another tantrum, but this time, to the manager's credit, he actually stepped in and got her to just move on and do her job. That was the only thing he did right, though. Beyond that, he wasn't terribly polite to me. Not as rude as the *loose cannon* sitting at the front desk, but still. He wasn't pleasant. From what I've seen in other reviews at different sites, it would seem he's not very honest, either. I'd assumed the owner of the place I'd been towed from had had someone watching the lot, or a camera or something, but it sounds, from other reviews, like Ultimate actually employs someone to go sit and watch parking lots and call them to tow people. I stated why we'd gone out-- to have lunch, as a belated birthday celebration-- and that all this had really ruined the day. Did either of them seem to care? Of course they didn't. During the whole second half of this incident, I hadn't spoken another word to the woman. Out of the blue, just as she was finishing with my receipt, she handed it to my fiance (despite it being for *my* credit card she'd insisted upon), saying pointedly, "Here you are, sir, and thank you for being so polite. I'm glad I talked to *you* on the phone." What *gall,* after how she'd acted towards me. I didn't even say anything because I was too *stunned.* I wish now that I'd told her how innappropriate and uncalled-for a remark that was. Frankly, I'm just not used to dealing with such tactless people. I didn't deserve that. We went out and got my car, and as I was driving through the gate, the manager called out, *very* sarcastically, "Happy birthday." I live in a Condominium where the Condo Association called in to have my scooter towed while I was out of town due to expired tags. I was obviously distraught when I returned from vacation to find it missing, realizing it had likely been towed. I called Ultimate Towing at 7 PM and was told my bill was upwards of $350 for three days, which seemed absolutely insane to me for a scooter. The representative told me to call back the next morning by 1:00 PM so that I would not be charged for an extra day and so that I would be able to speak with Rennie. I called the next morning and discussed my situation with him. He told me that he would talk to the owner and see what he could do. He later called me back letting me know that the owner had agreed to lower my bill to only the original tow rate of $100. When I got to Ultimate Towing I spoke with the owner, who is actually a pretty funny guy, and asked if I could just have the scooter disposed of (as it hasn't run in over a year and isn't worth the $400 to fix it). He said he'd be happy to do so, even though we all know scooters are more of a hassle than they're worth at that stage, and he didn't charge me extra to do so. If I were to take it to the dump myself, it'd cost me over $150 for the towing, battery and oil removal and disposal charges. It was kind of him to dispose of the scooter for me and ultimately charge me less than anywhere else would! No one ever really has a great experience with towing companies, which we all get why, but this is the first time I didn't leave frustrated beyond belief from a Gainesville towing company! read more

Had to load the truck with suitcases and stuff my daughter brought to college and did not need. Parked in resident parking for less than 15 minutes while getting stuff to take down to the truck. Wow, the truck is gone!. The bad thing is my daughter told me about the visitor parking, but there are not signs that I could see stating this on either way into the complex. The driver is very rude. He towed my car because I was parked on my grass, I found out that was illegal. I was upset about being towed and he refused my payment of $50 on site because I didnt have cash. I paid $100 that night, but while I was getting my car the man talked shit to me the whole time. He said he didnt have my car that it didn't get there yet and my neighborhood sounded trashy (Which it isn't for the amount of traffic and kids it has). When I got there it was only a man and woman there which meant he was there with my car the whole time but made me wait to get the information of why it as towed. While he was pulling my car he damaged my sewer line and scratched my car because he backed it into the woods to turn out of the neighbors yard. This company decided to tow a car that was legally parked in the assigned resident parking spot claiming that there was no decal on the vehicle (BTW, UNTRUE!!!). In order to make money, they are actively patrolling residential parking areas and indiscriminately towing cars without consideration if these are legally parked and are owned by residents. I can understand if the car is parked illegally but this is beyond justification. Running a predatory business on the student residents may not be illegal but is definitely immoral and a bad business practice. May the $100 paid for this illegal tow be a reflection of how local businesses damage the reputation of Gainesville. You may have a service contact with the building but we have a residential lease that gives us the right and authorizes us to park our vehicle in our assigned spot. I was on my way to drop my granddaughters off at a friends house just off of 29th Terrace. When I pulled onto 29th Terrace, a Gainesville Towing truck had just picked up a vehicle and the truch was blocking the road. The driver was talking with another man and had his head turned away from me. After a while, I waved and the man who was talking to the driver looked at me and just continued on with his conversation as if I wasn't even there. I was starting to get annoyed as all the driver had to do was back up just two feet and I would have been able to go past them but the driver just continued to talk to the man (I assume it was the customer). I then gently honked my horn to let the driver know I was there and he did turn his head and look directly at me. Rather than backing up, he just continued to talk with the customer. I had to then wait for him to finish their conversation which lasted another 30 seconds or more. How rude!! You know how if you treat someone badly they will tell, on the average 16 people about your bad experience. Well, I'm they type of person that makes up for all those who don't tell anybody. I call and tell them they made a mistake and the woman on the phone, who sounded very uneducated in her trade, told me she could only give me back my car for $100...... Yes they basically illegally stole my car from a legal spot with a legal decal and want me to pay them $100 for them to give it back?! They do not care about your rights or your property. They only care about one thing and that is making a quick buck from anyone they can get it from. The lady then tells me if i do not come get the car within 24 hours the price then goes to almost $400. These people need to be stopped and the person out there taking cars out of completely legal spots needs to be arrested for grand theft. I could tell you to try to avoid them but it seems they don't care if your car is in a legal spot or illegal, so basically they are going after everyone at this point. Would have given them 0 stars if i could. I hate seeing the owner on here, knowing what kind of business he is running, and telling people basically sorry for your luck. read more

Our family was traveling in two cars, stopped in Gainsville to eat, fill-up our gas tanks and spend the night (two hotel rooms) and visit the U of F campus as a potential grad school. My husband and I were in the first car; our daughter and college roommate were in a car behind us. My husband and I specifically asked some students walking near a restaurant where the parking was located, and that is where we parked and our daughter parked across the street. Together we walked inside a restaurant, sat down at a table by the window and our daughter announced her car just went down the street on back of a tow truck. It happened THAT QUICK! My husband and her ran down the street to catch the driver, and explained we are from out-of-town and thought we parked legally. My husband is a law enforcement officer; he/we know better than to park illegally. The driver only unhooked the vehicle after my husband paid him $100 cash. That experience ruined our supper. We got back on the road; I refused to give Gainsville any more of our money - neither gas, hotel rooms or even grad school. And I have warned my coworkers to NOT stop in Gainsville while vacationing in Florida. It is easy to see from our car tags that we are not from the area - how about a verbal warning to move the vehicle or be towed (because you had to be watching as the tow truck was present as soon as we crossed the street)? I hope the city of Gainsville and/or the Better Business Bureau is paying attention. I will certainly let them (and a news station) know this is not how you welcome guests into your city. read more

This tow company is completely subpar. Today after leaving my car, which was my fault, in the sun trust center for 10 min. my car was towed. I come back to the sun trust center to find the tow truck WITH my car so I chased him down. When the truck driver finally stopped, he said i could give him 100 dollars cash to get my car dropped there which was a scam of course, he was going to pocket my money and give me the car ultimately stealing from this company. Anyway, I would not have had an issue with my car being towed other than the customer service was absolutely horrible. The tow truck driver cussed me out, and my older sister and even called another woman a bitch. Choice language. This company really needs to improve their works attitudes and look to higher different people. There is nothing more stressful than being a broke college student, watching your car get towed and having the people who work for the company treat you like you are an idiot because that I am not...I do attend the top university in the state of Florida...more than the truck driver could have said honestly. read more

Very rude and unsatisfied. This company DBA elite auto center of GAINESVILLE, Inc; elite towing and recovery. Steer clear of this terrible place. The drivers are rude and unsafe to be around. I got a call from Eric ,claiming to be a manager, from his personal cell phone calling my family a liar. I got cut off by a driver texting on his phone not paying attention to driving. Driving reckless at 80+mph. Nearly causing a pileup. Eric claims he was behind this driver, that is funny I was the one slamming on brakes behind the truck. Steve O., if you are the owner, showing some compassion and respect to people who have real problems goes a long way. All we wanted was for you to give us your word you handled it. Instead, we get a call from Eric calling us a liar and telling us "GOOD LUCK" on ever getting ahold of the owner. When a note was put out for Lauren to call back.
