Price gouging for mani and pedicures, the Spanish employees bad mouth POC who do not know Spanish. My French pedicure with regular polish was $55 (not gel, not powder), which I paid for in cash! The first time I was there I received the same French pedicure with a manicure for $55 and I paid with a debit card which came with a service fee for using debit card. Therefore, the price was higher using a debit card then using cash. Why is the price exactly the same the second time around especially when using cash and I received half of the treatments (no manicure) the second time around???!!! Unacceptable! WRONG, WRONG, wrong! Tomato tomato tomato! Nonetheless, I will not be returning, I nor anyone else should not be take advantage of! And to think I was in support of a female business. Smh. Unfortunately, I have to write this review; I have been 2x to this establishment, first time it was a french pedicure + simple manicure and 2nd was only for a french pedicure; 1-week differential. it is sad to say the nail salon is price-gouging customers and it's very sad to report because I can easily head to "5thAve Nail Salons" for price-gouging with way better treatment. The very first time I visited I was seen by Monica who completed my french pedicure and simple manicure with no polish, everything cost $55 with card use. The second time I came I had a french pedicure with NO mani and the cost was $55 in cash!!!!! Now explain "How Sway?" Monica explained there is a service fee with a card; a manicure is $14 with cash but $16 with a credit/debit card so forth, I accepted the fee with no hesitation. However, when I returned for the 2nd time, I brought cash and I did not get a manicure, less of a cost right? WRONG?!!!!! Monica charges me the same $55 with only a french pedicure and with cash for that? Now I know she was taken advantage especially since once I entered she was halfway through her friend's pedicure she was doing for free, how do I know this? The friend hopped right out of the seat when a paying customer came in (which was me) and when was drying my freshly painted pedicure the friend jumped right back to the seat to continue her treatment. No paying customer would stop their services for another to complete their service. It's sad to report, but I will not return to this establishment. I love to support women's businesses and possibly a black-owned female business but I will not be played for a fool!! I will not be returning, It's shameful and disgusting. I gave Monica $10 tip cash for the first time and $5 tip cash the second time knowing I was being taken advantage of. She will not see my funds anymore nor my friends, and family. I initially recommended this place. If you're in this area. DO NOT GO; just stick to the popular 5th ave nail salons in the area. When I moved to NY and the states I noticed that almost all nail salons had a basic-fast-money making approach to nail care and clients. This is not Shekina at all and I consider the girls here to have probably the best nail salon in the area. I've been getting my nails done for 4 years mainly my Mari or Monica, and they are THOROUGH with getting that mani and pedis to be perfect not just right away but weeks after. At a point when my nails were super weak and breaking a lot from the gel, Monica helped me get my nails super strong and healthy with vitamin base-coat and good nail care. I love and appreciate their service so much that I still go them even if now that I moved to Queens. Finally, a nail salon in my neighborhood that is better than mediocre to average. I've been several times now and had 3 different women give manis and pedis so I feel confident saying you can't go wrong here. The attention to detail is something I've only really seen in places beyond my average neighborhood spot and with much higher prices. Shekina also has way more brands and colors of polish that your typical salon, which is fun. It's pretty small and sometimes there are more technicians working than other times. I recommend making an appointment just to be safe as I've arrived and been told there was a wait upwards of an hour more than once. Good stuff. read more

Worst gel mani-pedi I've ever had. The woman who painted my nails did a terrible job and the whole ordeal took 3 hours! It was ridiculous. The woman stopped and started every two minutes and would get up and walk away because she had wrist pain, yet no one else offered to help. The place was extremely clean and brand new. Massage chairs are all new and working. The younger girl who gave me my pedi did an extremely good job and deep cleaned my nails. She was very detailed and made a great French polish job. Which is most important to me. The only downside is that she was inexperienced in massage. For some people it is not important, but for me it is a deal breaker. As in most nail salons in New York (specifically Asian run) they give good foot massages. I really enjoy the personal attention that is given at this salon. They soak off your gel long enough to not damage your nails, they paint your gel all the way to the cuticle, and they take time to make your paint look perfect. So glad to finally have a nail salon in the neighborhood, and this place is very nice. I went last week and got a mani, pedi and eyebrow wax; all of which were done with great attention to detail and total professionalism. The tools are all clean & sterilized and the tech used hand sanitizer. They have a good selection of polish colors and brands, as well as gel polish. The pedicure chairs give great (and long!) massages, and everything is new & sparkling. The only complaint is that the foot scrubber (for heals, rough skin) is flimsy and not very effective, but I think that's a design flaw of the sterilized (disposable) function and not at all the tech's fault. Hopefully the owners find something more sturdy to use in the future. read more

This is only my second (and last) visit to the salon. The first visit was fine, normal, if a bit cold. But this past Saturday I went in for a mani-pedi and just a few too many things didn't go so well. I hate to not leave a more positive review because the women who worked there seemed nice enough, but here we go. The Pros: -It's $27 total for a mani-pedi. -I got sat down right away without an appointment. -It looked pretty clean. The Cons: -THE REAL PROBLEM: My big toe is red and swollen after this appointment. I don't know if the tools weren't clean enough or if she cut too close to the quick, but I'm genuinely worried it's infected now. ...other issues... -I paid with a card, which they said would be fine and the door had a "visa/mastercard" sticker on it. When I went to pay with a card, she took it to the back room, then came back with it and ran it, which I thought was kind of weird. They also automatically added a tip to the card without asking, though of course I was going to leave a tip. I left paying much more than I had planned. Moral, if you go, pay in cash so you can, you know, choose how you spend your money. wtf. -I (accidentally) selected a nail polish with a $2 up-charge. It's supposed to be long-last color, but it is already significantly chipping 1 day later. -Even though they did my hands and feet at the same time, I was there for almost 2 hours. This was my first time going. I actually really loved how meticulous they are about your nails. However, you should only go if you have time to burn. My mani/pedi took a full two hours. They have a vast selection of polishes to fit every budget. They are also super clean. I was thrilled. What led me to give only 2 stars was that after my pedi I left with 2 bruises under my toe nail. She dug in so hard I had a hard time wearing flats. I live in Sunset Park and don't have many options near me for a clean and modern nail salon. I was thrilled when I saw Shekina had opened in Greenwood hoping I could stop always heading to Bay Ridge or Park Slope. My gel mani and pedicure cost a bit more than I was used to but I loved the small white & chrome salon and my nails looked great. Unfortunately my gel manicure started to peel at the edges the very next day and by day three they were all peeling off. I have never had this happen before, so I popped back in and asked if they would re-do it for me. I had no time that week so it took a full week for me to get back in.
