I have gone there for 4 years since buying a home 2.5 miles away. It has been a good place for me…read more I just took my 20 year old daughter there for an end trim of not more than 1.5 inches which she showed the male stylist... and once her glasses were off and she couldn't see what he was doing he decided to cut off 8 or more inches of her hair. She went in with hair below mid back with blonde ends which she has been growing for YEARS! IN MOMENTS HE MASSACRED HER HAIR AND TOOK 2 YEARS OFF IT!!! It is now just below her shoulders. On his own he decided to take all the color out of her hair. Who is he to decide and go against her request? That is as close to a consent violation and assault as there can be to someone who has dyed their hair for years and made it a part of who they are and what they portray a out themselves. My daughter has anxiety dbsorder and asthma. She has been brought up to remain calm until she can unload it all in a safe spot because people don't help at all if you are excited and react in a business. I paid $40 and tipped $8 and walked with her talking on the way to my truck, she got in where she felt safe and just exploded in tears, shaking, hyperventilating, dropped the seat back and just heavingly cried. Any person going to a hairstylist the first time has anxiety. You trust that they know what they are doing, are qualified, will listen and can then execute what you ask for. For many, a person's hair is part of who they are and the style of self image they want to express to the world. This butcher took that from my daughter in seconds. You can accidentally go 2 inches when 1.5 is asked for... maybe even 3 for a mistake... but 8 or more? Really?!? I tried calming her as best I could, turned around in the lot and drove back to talk to the stylist. The receptionist said he left for lunch just after we left. I asked for the manager. Nice guy. Made no excuses. Didn't cut me off, and asked what I wanted to happen. I told him I need someone to come out to the truck and see the state this putting her in and apologize. He did that. He talked to her a bit. He let her know he wished he could put it back. Obviously... there is no fix other than time now. Dad did what he could and tried to hold someone accountable... but ‍ No offer of money back when I mentioned paying $40 + $8 tip to have my daughter traumatized. Don't anyone comme and say, "well you didn't ask"...folks, the mear mention of the amount and the obvious screw up and fact I am back needing help from the manager to give my daughter any peace at all should make it clear a refund is the least they can do. No... I am not going to call and ask. No I am not going to change my feelings and go again myself even if they did fine by me these past 4 years. I gave my number when I .are her appointment for 1:00 today. They have my number if they think they need to talk. I will leave my comments here and hope people read it, consider it, and make darn sure through questioning, that their stylist knows exactly what is wanted. Then make them stop after the initial cut and return glasses if needed to confirm they are right. Do that while it can be mitigated if wrong, even though not truly fixable. This was just a total FUBAR situation for my daughter. Dad got her ice cream, and she is resting in her room with her service support dog. I hope it all helps. I want to scream and yet it will do no good at all for anyone... it is just too little too late. So many have good comments, and I did too. Not now.

Unfortunately 4 hours later, so many of the clustered lashes (I thought they were supposed to be individuals) had fallen out that I had bald spots on my lids. I frantically called the salon to see what could be done; I expected that since I'd paid $130 plus 20% tip a few hours ago, surely they would make this right, especially since I was less than 24 hours away from being a bride!! Instead I was told I could come back tomorrow for a $45 fee. I cannot express my level of disappointment. I will never return to this establishment.

However, the time had come to get it done & while I love the place I usually get my hair cut, it's not worth it to make a special trip to Mechanicsville just for that. Anyway. Alicia's was recommended to me by my cousin (and had the highest Yelp rating of any salon near me). On arrival I was a little confused - the signage on the building simply says "A Salon & Day Spa." Since there were no other hair places in the area, I knew it had to be the place, but being a newcomer to the area, it was a bit confusing. The salon has a boutique area right up front with lots of shiny baubles for sale. I'm not terribly interested in things like that so I couldn't give you any specifics. The servuce area in the back seemed to have a lot of knick-knacks & the like scattered around, but it wasn't over the top. It also advertises & has areas set up for massages and mani/pedis (I will more than likely be going back to get my toes done soon), so you could ostensibly book a whole spa package for yourself if that's your thing. But I was here for a haircut. Amanda was my stylist, and after a consultation of what I wanted (I NEVER know what to do with my hair) and what she thought would be best, we began. About 30 minutes later, my hair was washed, conditioned, cut, dried, and styled, and it looked 100x better than it had before. During the prices Amanda showed me the products she was using and described what they were for, in case I wanted to go out & purchase them later. I was offered something to eat or drink several times. Best of all, Amanda assessed where the lumps & bumps on my scalp were & worked around them - without saying a word. I really appreciated that. The whole experience was relaxing & very pleasant. On check out, they have a printed calendar that describes a special that the salon runs for each day of the month (also available on their website). I also snagged a 20% off coupon for my first visit that knocked off about $8 from the cost (also on their website). All in all, a great first experience at a salon that I more than likely will be returning to.
