The owner is crazy rude that it prompted me to write my first review ever! I read many very bad reviews of this shop after I left. What made it even worse is the owner seems in complete denial about her negative and abrasive behavior. She wrote a response that was not an accurate description of our interactions. I will never go there again and I was looking forward to visiting the yarn shops in the area while I am working in this area. In a panic, here from out of town, I called the shop to see if they had needles in the right size since mine broke on the car ride. I arrived 15 minutes before closing and the owner had 4 different options already picked out for me. She then showed me several novel products I'd never seen before (at my request--I love to find new tools I've never seen). So, I spent more money than I'd planned. It was awesome. First stop in today and staff/owner wasn't very friendly. Additionally, the counter was cluttered with a lot of stuff. Good selection, though. There was a skein I wanted to buy but didn't feel comfortable asking for help because the staff seemed not to want to be bothered. Oh well. Might try again another time. Went into Sheep's Clothing today. Our local yarn shop. Decided that I will never set foot in there again and they will never see another dime of my money. On one visit, I was put in the awkward position of listening to the mother (owner) chewing out her teenage daughter (who also works there). It was painful to watch and listen to. Unfortunately, where I was when they started,I had no escape route and had to listen to the whole thing go down. I let it go. On another visit I was witness to the owner visiting with a group of ladies and she was telling them how the customer she had just talked to was "an idiot and a complete waste of her time." I was shocked that she would talk ABOUT a customer IN FRONT of other customers like that! For some reason, I let that go too. A couple weeks ago, I stopped in looking for a sock ruler. She said they were completely out but could special order one for me. I said no, figuring it would give me an excuse to go yarn shopping again when she got some more in. I purchased three expensive skeins of sock yarn (What can I say? I have a weakness!) and left. I returned today (a couple weeks later) and once again asked for a sock ruler. A young girl (the one I previously witnessed being chastised) said she wasn't sure what that was and went to ask her mother/shop owner. I followed. I was very rudely informed by the owner that they were still out of them because I chose not to have one special ordered so they didn't order anymore. She said she had an order for them pending but hadn't placed it because she had no reason to because nobody had placed an order for one. I asked when she was planning to do so and when she thought they would be in. She said she wasn't planning to place the order because she had no reason to. The daughter asked if I wanted to order a set and I said I would think about it but I wanted to look around a little. (Honestly, I was angry and was just trying to make a polite exit.) While pretending to look at a book, I overheard the owner basically refer to me as an idiot because I didn't special order them so why did I expect to find them in the store? WHY would she place an order when she had nobody wanting them?! Excuse me. I have spent literally HUNDREDS of dollars in your store. This is now the second time I have asked for the same item. They should have automatically been ordered the FIRST time I asked for them. I can easily order this item off Amazon or Etsy but I like to and was trying to support a small local business! I walked out absolutely LIVID today. Before I even got in the car my husband (a business manager himself) was asking what was wrong. I told him what had happened and he agreed. I will procure my knitting supplies elsewhere from here on out. read more

I LOVE this shop! Everything you could want in a fiber store. Broad selection to meet all of your tastes and needs, plus a staff willing to order for you if the color or weight yarn is not in stock. But, the classes and the help with questions is absolutely wonderful. The classes are not only interesting, informative and diverse, but the group of people with the same interest provides for great company and good fun to boot. The shop also offers a variety of other services from blocking to repairs to weaving in ends to sewing your sweater pieces together and more! I ordered some yarn from them. I never got confirmation of shipping. I sent an email to ask why. Was told that there was a snafu with shipping and a family emergency. I was told it was sent to the wrong person. A couple days later they cancel my order and refund my card. When I asked why it was canceled, again I get a runaround about now the yarn is out of stock and discontinued. I am very disappointed that I couldn't get a straight story and that now I have SOME of the yarn for a project but not the rest. What do I do with what I already have? read more

I went in for the first time yesterday and spent the first 20 minutes wandering around stunned at the fabulous selection of yarn and project examples. I am a beginner crocheter and the owner, Paula, spent time with me showing me different stitches, answering questions about yarn, and giving me ideas for my project. The worst experience I have ever had going to a store. I called to see if they were open and the lady was extremely rude. When we got there she was even more rude. First thing she said is what are you doing here. I was so out off I walked around the store but refused to spend any of my money there. I utterly adore this store. The selection is outstanding, and isn't limited to yarn. You can find patterns, needle-felting supplies, books, buttons, threads, shawl pins, gorgeous rosewood crochet hooks and knitting pins, and just about anything a yarn addict could ask for. The staff is incredible - they offer free ball-winding on shop purchases, so you don't have to rope a friend into holding yarn while you wind. :) They will also demonstrate techniques for you, and have swatches on hand for these occasions. Classes here are outstanding - they recently held their first Knitters Summer Camp, which focused on finishing techniques. Partnering with several local business, campers learned a different skill at each mini-class (held in shops around the square). I had a blast! read more

Ordered online; paid for the yarn; waited three days...nothing. Sent an email asking for an update...nothing. Finally called; the person who answered was perhaps the owner, who flippantly told me the order was "processing." I asked if she'd like my order number, telling her I'd ordered it "on Monday." After another inquiry asking if she'd like the order number she said something about it only being Thursday.. then said she'd refund my money. Can't decide if it's COVID short tempered-ness, or if she's just normally short with her customers. Anyhow, not the best business practice. read more

I don't knit. My wife knits, so I spend a lot of time here. The staff is always extremely helpful and knowledgable. Sometimes my wife will be working on something and send me over there to pick something up for her. The staff has saved me from getting the wrong thing numerous times. I go to Sheep's Clothing quite often and have been taking classes there for the last 6 months or so. The owner is very knowledgeable about not only the yarns She sells but also about all the different tools used in Knitting, crocheting, weaving and spinning. The store is clean and organized. She is also very helpful when it comes to blocking my projects, winding the hanks into cakes and aiming me in the right direction when I am choosing yarn for my next project. I took the beginning knitter class this September with Kate, and I am now HOOKED on knitting. I've always loved yarn and needlework, and have been a crocheter since I was 19, but at age 34, I was ready to tackle something new. Kate was friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. I've bought several skeins of yarn at the store since that first day in class, and I am supremely happy with my items. They also sell lots of notions: needles, stitch markers, stitch counters, pattern books, etc. It can be hard to learn new things as a grownup; we get settled into our routines and rarely veer from them. Kate at the store, however, never made me feel stupid or slow (even though I asked some silly questions!) and was encouraging and helpful. Sheep's Clothing is the perfect example of what a local yarn shop should be: outstanding customer service, a huge variety of beautiful yarns, TONS of knitted projects so you can see how it will look, experienced staff who has more patience than I've ever seen, beautiful, vintage shop that holds the best "vibe" in the world, customers who are friendly fellow fiber lovers who welcome newbies, . . . I could go on and on. When you purchase your yarn, etc. here, the staff is happy to help you get through your pattern with ease. They bend over backwards to make your knitting/crocheting experience the best ever. The classes are excellent, too. I hadn't knit since I was a teen. I was never very good at it--back then, the most I was able to knit was a scarf or two. I doubted I could REALLY knit . . . but Sheep's Clothing took me by the hand, made me feel smart no matter how many mistakes I made . . . and turned me into a real knitter. It changed my life. I consider this "my" LYS, even though it is 45 miles from home and I only make it here once a year -- it's that awesome. Enormous selection of yarn, tools, notions, and finished objects. I always leave with a new project idea (or two, or more!). I love the big work table in the center, and the smaller table up front for consultations, etc. Almost every time I have been there the owner (Paula) has been there as well, helping troubleshoot customer problems and offering suggestions. All staff hit a good balance between attentiveness and letting customers prowl on their own. Touches I really appreciated during my recent visit: - the opportunity to try on a finished object for a top I was considering. - my son was with me, and no one made a big deal about him setting up a place to read at the work table (there was plenty of room). - the restroom is accessible, bright and sparking clean. read more

Worst place I had the misfortune to order from. Very unprofessional and totally inept. It took 2 weeks to get my order. I called 3 times and finally I talked to the owner, she kept interrupting me and was just plain rude. She had one excuse after another for not sending my order. She should have asked for order number and my name, she couldn't be bothered and I got the feeling she couldn't have cared less. She confused me with another complaining customer to make matters worse. Since I was on a deadline for a customer's custom order she promised to ship it FED EX, (2 day delivery) she couldn't even do that, she sent it through the post office and it took 5 days.
