Mussels €12.95

Sheehy's Anchor Down serves fresh caught seafood daily. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is good but stiff and borderline unfriendly. It was not busy so we were seated as soon as we walked in. This is not the case during high season so make a reservation. Most of the restaurants in Ireland require you to walk up to the register to get your check and pay and this restaurant was no different. That takes some getting used to. We ordered calamari and mussels for appetizers. Both were very fresh and delicious. They came out of the kitchen piping hot about 20 minutes after we ordered. For entrees we decided on the fish & chips made with cod. The fish was thick cut and moist. It was coated in a tasty breading deep fried to perfection. You have to ask for tarter sauce if you want it. Prepare yourself for a look of disdain because evidently the server found this appalling. Push through the attitude because the seafood quality is worth it.

The husband and I did an early dinner around 5 PM. There wasn't another soul dining yet. I had the brill and scallop special, the husband had the John Dory special. Both dishes were excellent!! It was so good we forgot to take a picture. I also had a Cronins cider which was excellent! Would come back for sure! Don't miss this if you're in Dingle. Here's a pic of our clean plates. Sorry!

Saw the signs for best seafood and were so hungry so we walked in. There was one party and two other couples with plenty of open tables left but we were asked if we had a reservation. When we told them we did not, he simply shrugged and made it seem like it was so difficult to accommodate the two of us. Left us without any notice to go set up a table so we were awkwardly standing there to figure out if we were getting seated or not. Finally he came back and sat us at a table by the restroom even though there were plenty of other tables. We ordered oysters as a starter and it came with no silverware so we were un-shelling them with our fingers. I ordered the mussels and my husband got the salmon. He said it was nothing special, but enjoyed it. My mussels (dinner portion) were plenty to eat, all of them opened and none of them were missing meat. The chips are thick but we had to ask for condiments more than twice. It could be an American gesture, but we were never checked on by our server for the rest of the night and had to ask twice for our check. Service could certainly use improvement. Food was somewhat bland. They do have a Sheehy's food truck which I believe would've been better than dining in.

Nice thick fries...

Very reasonable for high quality seafood. A great value. We ate there twice in 4 days. Had to go back second time.

We ordered the following: Starters *House cured salmon and cod in nori seaweed - excellent, sushi quality, the cod was nice and salty, portion wasn't the largest *Warm smoked mackerel with horseradish and dill dressing - really tasty and a nice portion *Flash pan squid with chiles and coriander- outstanding with a kick Mains *Pan fried black sole on the bone, dill, and toasted almond butter-maybe the star of the show, a large portion, fall of the bone and the toasted almond butter was awesome *OOTB fish selection; John Dory, sole and halibut fillets served with a lobster sauce - the fish was great, but the lobster sauce had zero flavor *Dingle bay lobster from the tank- we got the last one, it was excellent The beer and wine were excellent. The service was great. The interior had a tile floor with a sort of Mexican fishing village theme. Reasonably priced for top level fresh seafood. Highly recommend.

The front is a basic and unassuming, but neat, blue building. Inside remains simple, but quality, with light wood, soft light, and sea themed decor. As the menu changes so frequently, a dish can run out that evening, it is handwritten on a chalkboard that is brought to the table. It was very difficult to choose, the entire menu was well done. The brown bread was also the best of the trip, theirs had more seeds and the right balance of dense. Be careful to not fill up on bread as you will not want to miss any of the rest of the meal. Since the menu changes so frequently, describing what we ordered is not helpful. Both dishes were incredible, fresh, cooked perfectly, and with interesting and well matched ingredients. We ate every possible bite. We managed to save room and share a dessert, worth every calorie. I'm surprised to see any negative reviews. In my option, for the quality of the meal, the prices were completely reasonable. If you are in Dingle (which if you go to Ireland you absolutely should as the town deserves a visit), make reservations!

This has been one of the best meals we have enjoyed throughout Ireland after several visits. Wow. Make a reservation to ensure you get a spot. It can be busy and you really don't want to miss out. We sat in the back at a comfortable table, the seating is spaced well enough to provide privacy. The sound level is also comfortable. For drinks we ordered a port wine and a local stout. Both were satisfying. Our starter of mussels was absolutely superb. The mussels were sweet and tender. The sauce that bathed the fish was really delicious. I ordered the spicy Spanish fish stew. The fish were truly fresh and delicious. The stew sauce was a bit spicy and also excellent. It would have been a great soup on its own. My wife ordered the halibut served with a mushroom sauce. The sauce was great, the fish was high quality and fresh, but it was absolutely tasteless. The preparation by steaming unfortunately ruined an otherwise very good fish dish. Our dessert, the Sticky Toffee Pudding was really good. It has lots of flavor and whole sweet, wasn't overly so. I would have wanted to give Doyle's 5*. But with a very expensive entree being mediocre, it would not have been honest. We told the staff our impression and to their credit, they were completely receptive. I would absolutely return for another meal here, but would be careful to ask how the specials are prepared.

This was done through email on their website and was seamless. This restaurant is on its way to a Michelin star, in my opinion. I'm maybe not a total foodie, but I have eaten in many excellent restaurants and this is among them. All the food we were served seemed to be local and freshly prepared. Even down to the house pickles. Every part of each dish was curated and prepared with thought. The flavors all worked together seamlessly and the dishes were beautiful to look at and to eat. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable, and gracious in answering all of our questions. And we had many of them considering we are not locals and we were fascinated with their creations and selections of food. I highly recommend land to Sea restaurant if you're in Dingle. It would not surprise me if it soon earns a star and you will not be able to get a reservation. Go now!

That being said, she was not Irish (every Irish person we came in contact with were lovely!). She sat us and told us the soup was Tomato bisque and I was very excited because it's one of my favorites and I'm a vegetarian (not vegan). There was an early special and you could choose 2 or 3 options. I chose the soup and a fish dish. It did take quite a while for a server to show up and take our order. It then took a long time to get our drinks and it wasn't very busy at that point. The soup was delivered and it was lamb stew. I understand mistakes can happen. The server said I could choose something else on the menu and I didn't see anything that was vegetarian or that I liked. I said the fish alone would be fine. I did not like it at all. It wasn't flavorful. I'm sorry, I know it's an unpopular opinion as I saw many 5 star reviews, but I am very surprised that this is a Michelin restaurant. I would like to add that my husband really enjoyed his meal and the atmosphere was great. Maybe a bad night for them? Or maybe I was just hangry.
