I am new to the Clovis area and don't know my way around yet. The one place I know where to go out of necessity is the Vons located at Fowler and Ashlan. Shear Magic is located here. The fog and cold temperatures had been getting this Southern California girl down so I decided to go get a new do. I walked into the shop on a whim and asked for a haircut and color touch up. I had a picture of how I kinda wanted my hair cut, although I still wanted my super thick hair long enough to pull into a pony tail. Ashley was the available stylist at the time. It was my lucky day! Ashley sat me in her chair, I pulled out my picture and we discussed the cut. She was cognizant to my super thick hair and what she need to do to make it easily controllable. She then pulled out the color swatches to match my "do it yourself" color to cover up my graying roots. Ashley put me completely at ease with her warm personality and knowledge about all things hair. I had several inches cut off my hair, which ended up being the PERFECT length. The color Ashley put on my roots matched my blond hair perfectly! Ashley prepared a card on what she had done so that the next time I came in, she could either do the same thing or tweak it for my preference. I left the salon looking amazing! however the true testament to a great stylist is if it looks just as good when one styles it themselves at home. And it did!!!! Super easy for me to blow out! I have never had so many compliments on my style! And did I mention the cost? Super affordable! I will be able to have my hair done by a professional every 4-6 weeks without breaking the bank! If you are looking for a new shop or if you are new in town like me, STOP looking fro a new stylist and try Shear Magic. You will not be disappointed. read more

I went in for a cut with Teresa this morning and I left super happy with the results. She trimmed my length and fixed up my bangs and finished with a blow dry. My hair feels so fresh and the length is perfect. She was super pleasant and friendly, and made sure to ask me what I wanted and checked in to make sure I liked what she was doing along the way. I met Sadie at another location (not a Salon) and absolutely loved her great personality, she is a truly genuine soul! Discovered that she is a beautician with over 10 years experience, and having just moved here from out of the area, I had to make an appointment! So happy to have met Sadie in the first place, I have certainly found my new stylist in my new town! Sadie had her work cut out for her... it had been a very long time since I had had my hair done, and it was in pretty bad shape! I went here for the first time today to get a simple haircut; my appointment was at 1, I got there five minutes early and waited for MAYBE two minutes before I was called. I had Janel, and she was SUPER sweet and accommodating and made sure that I was totally satisfied with my hair. I'll probably always ask for her in the future! Not my best experience. I've been here 2 times prior to this last visit. First time was fine, the woman was nice and did a nice job on my hair. 2nd time was with another woman, she was not very friendly and my hair was not cut very well. I asked for a trim but I still had split ends when my hair finally dried. But today I came in WITH a scheduled appointment, I was not greeted or acknowledged for at least 50 minutes. Meanwhile 2 other people walked in and were taken care of before me. I don't think it was on purpose but no one even spoke to me or said "we'll be with you shortly". Nothing. I finally just walked out. Very awkward and unfriendly environment. Will not be returning. read more

Okay experience. Came in with my hair pre washed. She cut it well but didn't dry it or style it. Still charged me full price despite not washing. Girls kinda rude, were talking, and salon was empty and dirty when I got there. Not bad experience. Not at all great. Average. edit: First of all, both girls were sitting down despite me having called previously asking if they even had time for a cut. So cleaning isn't an excuse. You only began cleaning when I arrived 10-15 minutes after I got there. As for the wet hair....normally hair stylists dry the hair so you can see how it's actually cut. My hair looked a lot choppier dry and straightened (which I did myself at home) than it did in the salon. Idk, you get what you pay for ladies. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

I was super skeptical about getting my hair cut in town (just bc I have a go-to lady up in the BayArea) but this triple digit heat was driving me crazy! My hair was flat and stringy from being weighed down by the beaming sun rays. If I didn't go in for a cut, I might've gone through Britney's 2007 meltdown So today was the day. I walked in with no appt, and I was quickly accommodated with KARINA. She was very understanding of what I wanted and asked multiple times "so this is how much you want to cut off, right?" I can appreciate someone who actually has a sense of perception and knows what "2 inches off" means, rather than getting scissor happy. This was my first visit and it was not a good experience. My fiancé had gone in and received a great cut, so I thought I'd give it a try. I wanted to go from long hair to short and took in a picture of the style I wanted. I should have asked for another stylist when the stylist I was given (I was a walk in) asked for help even before starting. In fact, the stylist needed help all through the cut. I am grateful she took her time but it still was not a good cut. Good luck to this young lady though. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. read more

I still haven't been back to this place because it was so horrible, & they just assume they know everything about there customers, this was in 2015, I was not "13 or 14" hahahahaha! Came in today as a walk in. The gal who cut my hair was amazing. I didn't catch her name but I know she has a beautiful two year old daughter. She also was the first chair on the right when you walked in. I always normally feel awkward talking with someone I don't know but she made me feel so comfortable like we had been friends for a long time. I showed her a picture of the way I wanted my hair and she cut it exactly like that. I have been going here for years and will never go anywhere else! Fernanda is the best! She is honest and won't do something, cut/color just to make money. She will discuss with u advising if it is realistic for ur hair type & texture, etc. prices are fair, not blown all out of proportion like a lot of salons are. Staff is friendly, no appointment necessary, but recommended if u want Fernanda. I book monthly appointments for color. I can't say enough good things about this place! read more

Horrible.... at least for me. Came in here to get a haircut. Walked in, not greeted. No biggie, I understand. What I did not appreciate/ enjoy was that when I walked in, I was THE only customer waiting, there were 2 other people in the chair already getting there hair done, and there were 4 hairdressers. Sat down, and waited for someone to at least acknowledge me or whatever. Finally I saw 2 hairdressers come to the register, thought at least one of them was going to greet me, but nope!!!! They were chitchatting about non personal work stuff. Didn't even say, I'll be right with you. Just went straight to talking and laughing. Probably sat there awkwardly for what felt like forever, and decided to just walk out. read more

I know that these reviews help to train and bring awareness to employers but honestly if you read other reviews you will see the owner apologizes and says she will address the issues. But why is this still happening? Clearly the issues aren't being addressed or the employees just don't care. That's terrible to see in a business like a hair salon. read more

I'm a simple man. I don't need a fancy cut or special hair services. Just a simple cut. But HOLY MOTHER OF KING SAUL'S CONCUBINE, this place is awesome. Ashley was very keen on making me feel comfortable, given that I usually don't go to salons. Buzz cuts are usually all I do because I'm a simpleton. She started me off with a quick wash of my hair to get out any grease of hair products that could become a problem. Then, instead of just asking me how I wanted my hair to look, she asked me questions regarding how often I get my hair cut, what kinds of people I would need to "clean up" for, etc. which really helped me decided what would be the best option. Barbers don't ask you these things, and simpletons don't think of these things. Overall, the quality of service is excellent, the facility looks top-notch, and the stylists are a joy to chat with. read more

I had an appointment at 3pm. I was told to go to the shampoo area to have my hair washed. I told them when I booked my appointment and when I wrote down what service I wanted that I was going to get my hair washed, cut and styled. Teresa washed my hair and cut it. She was great with letting me know options and suggestions on what to do about my hair. She passed me to Sadie when her next appointment, three of her family members came in. Sadie took me and dried and styled my hair. She curled it, told her that she didn't have to since she had a customer waiting for her specifically, but she said if that's what I wanted then she would do it. Took a long time for my hair to be curled but she was patient and was kind. I would come back here! I will leave pictures. My hair is super thick and long but she did it! Thanks Sadie! read more

Haven't been to Shear Magic for awhile but their customer service is still great! I was a walk in and someone was immediately available ( I didn't get her name). They've remodeled since my last visit but it looks great, has a cozy yet modern feel with deep colors and nice looking wood laminated flooring. The woman that cut my hair suggest a 2in trim just to clean up my previous cut... that was such a relief to know I finally found someone that wasn't scissor happy and gave me exactly what I actually wanted, to keep my length & get a trim. The last cut was at another location, I asked for long layers ended up 9inches shorter with some kind of shoulder length bob or something, I was so upset but my fault for being on my phone vs paying attention! So seeing that the woman at Shear Magic wasn't scissor happy that shows me she integrity in her job and what she does. I will continue to return to Shear Magic and recommend them to others. Oh did I mention I got a cut which included a wash for $19 so the price was right for me. It did go up from the last time I was there but it's less than others around the area and knowing my hair is in good hands is an added bonus! I've been here a few times now. Called ahead this morning to gauge the approximate wait time for a walk-in haircut, and I was told there was no wait. Sure enough when I arrived they were ready for me. Signed in on the walk-in sheet and Aprille took care of my haircut immediately. Another stylist, Angela, took over working on my haircut momentarily but Aprille soon returned to finish things up. I appreciated their patience and understanding in making sure I was satisfied with the finished cut as I'm generally not very articulate in communicating the style I want. Pricing is very reasonable ($19 for a men's haircut with wash included; up from $16 last time I came in, but still solid) and the service is professional and friendly. I'll be returning here for my next haircut and would definitely recommend this place for men's haircuts. read more

I've been going here for a while to get color done and they do a great job- except for the time I went in to get my hair re dyed and she only covered the bleached sections and not my roots? Anyway, I got my hair cut for the first time there. I showed at least 6 photos of pixie cuts and she gave me a bob. I cut my own hair the same way I showed her way better in the past.
