For most women (or PEOPLE, in general really), I think it's safe to say that our hair is very important to our overall identity. Having the "hair you want" is important for self-confidence... wouldn't you agree!? Since my health status changed in 2013, I have been unable to grow my hair past my shoulders. Ever since, I have kept my thin, fine hair very blonde to kind of "mask" that I didn't have much of it, and to keep what I DID have a little bit more spunky. Just wanted to feel the most like "me" that I could while working with what I had. Honestly though, I have wanted longer hair for years and years, but gave up on the idea a while back. I am beyond upset and disappointed with the haircut I received here. This was a rare occasion where I decided to get a "professional" cut for an upcoming promotion at work, and I am leaving looking worse than I have in years. To be clear, I did my due diligence. I called ahead and specifically asked if they could do a men's haircut, and I was assured they could. When I sat in the chair, the stylist Tanya immediately told me she couldnt do skin fades. I said, "Okay, perfect," because that's exactly what I didn't want. I explained that my usual style is a more grown-out, longer look. I even showed a clear inspiration photo to ensure we were on the same page. She then proceeded to completely ignore everything I said. Not only did she not follow the photo, but she cut my hair drastically shorter than I asked for. When I voiced my concern, saying it was already too short, she decided to take even more off, making the situation infinitely worse. I usually cut my own hair, and I consistently get a result ten times better than this. The one time I trust a professional with a major life event, my trust was completely misplaced. I am so angry and frustrated. My hair is completely butchered, and I now have to face a big career milestone feeling insecure and unhappy. Ok... ever since my raving review, I've been back twice. Once for my daughter n I, we both left pretty upset after our cuts weren't what we wanted. My son has gone there twice, first time, he got the perfect wolf cut, second time, butchered. Then, on a whim, I take a risk n went yesterday, explained in detail what I wanted, not at all what I got. *sigh* I was nervous, went to a different girl, n omg, no. I won't be going back. The girl was really sweet, my cut? Not a bob. I got a Bixie. I used to tell everyone about this place, now I'll tell them to run away. I found Shear Magic on Yelp and based on other reviews decided to give it a try and it helped that it's very close to my house. I got a haircut and style from Donna. She listened to what I wanted and gave me exactly that and then some. I had very long hair beforehand and asked for bangs and layers along with a big chop. 1st pic- spent $300+ and absolutely loved my hair! 2nd pic- spent $100+ when I went back to get it toned and this is what I got. I normally receive good service here, but was left so very disappointed this last time. I was told during my first visit that my color would be writen on a note so I can come back in a few weeks to refresh the color. I come back for a refresh and have a different stylist who was guided by my initial stylist on the color I wanted. After my hair was toned/dried, I showed the stylist a picture of my inital red hair and told them this is what I wanted, and that it was not the same. The stylist said it will "lighten up a little" later, and that the first time my hair was bleached, so that's why it's not the same color. Both pictures were taken on the same day I colored my hair, in my room, at night (9pm, 11pm), under the same lamp, 6 weeks apart, using the same phone. I wanted to replicate similar conditions for the 2nd pic to make it fair and show the difference in color. I am giving it 2 stars because I did like the way they previously done my hair. I absolutely loved my first color and now I'm so upset/ashamed of my hair. I'm lucky it's summer and I can keep it up while I wait to redo it myself. read more

I started going to Shear Magic in June when I needed a last minute cut & highlights done for my birthday. I went in for a free consult, and showed 3 different pictures of what I wanted done with color and the hair cut. Mackenzie, the stylist, followed the pictures perfectly. I wanted different bangs as compared to the haircut and she did an awesome job. She even gave my hair a beach style like the picture I showed her. The cut and color lasted 2 months through a ton of time in the sand, ocean, & sun. I went in for my roots & a haircut, & again, I am happy with the results. Mackenzie has been cutting hair for 10-11+ years and it's what she loves to do so it shows in her work. First, the girl (i think her name is Angela) wasn't friendly and seems wasn't friendly & ignored me when I said "my hair is very thin (was waiting for her to give suggestions for type of haircut) and I showed her the style of a haircut I wanted (pic with black shirt) and from the look of it she doesn't know what she's doing!! I was initially here waiting for my boyfriend to get a haircut and lucky for me I found out they had leg waxing available which was much needed for me after this quarantine. I got McKenzie to do my legs and not only was she sweet and entertaining ( great distraction when you're getting waxed), but she even took care of my ingrown hairs which I have so many and usually get overlooked by other waxers so I end up with stray hairs. I complained about all the times people waxed too fast that I couldn't recover from the pain right away and she did it smoothly and as painless as can be. I did not book an appointment but I called ahead of time the day of to see if there was a specific time I could go in for a haircut and not wait forever. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and asked to sign in. I waited no longer than 5 minutes which is GREAT for a walk-in. Ashley was my hair stylist and I'm very happy with my haircut! I did not show her any photos but described my desired style as shaggy with lots of layers. Initially, I turned down the blow dry and style but after Ashley explained that it is better to accurately texture dry hair, which makes total sense based on previous experiences, I decided to pay extra for the blow dry and style. I have been to many, many, many stylists in Fresno. One blew hair into my ear canal. One turned my hair orange. One spent 45 minutes just for my hair to look exactly the same as when I went in. I found Shear Magic and I'm glad I did. McKenzie (spelling?) Did my hair. Gave me a beautiful balayage and shorter cut. She even put super cute beachy waves in, which I didn't ask for but girl knew what she was doing because I loved it. I wear my hair like that all the time now. My highlights turned out great. No orange. I feel like a whole new person. Only thing to mention is that they do consultations for color before making an actual appointment so plan for two visits to get your hair done. Also, they do a lot of things ala carte (shampoo, cut, blow dry) so if you want all that done with your cut like usual, just make sure you mention that beforehand. read more

This place is AWFUL! I have now been there 3 times and tried 3 different butchers and left all three times wondering what kind of online beauty school the owner is recruiting her employees from. I have a very ordinary, simple pixie cut, and I always go in with photographs from multiple angles of what I want. The first time, my stylist was Sadie; she pretty much gave me a buzz cut. She used only the electric clippers, only pulling out some shears at the end to thin and texturize. She got my hair so short I had to wait 3 months for my hair to grow out enough before getting it cut again. Even then I couldn't get it cut correctly because it was still too short in some places. The second time I went I saw Ashley. Again, photos in hand and explaining where I part my hair and showing her because my hair was styled, she immediately disregarded my part on the side and parted it right down the middle and combed down bangs. I was very very gun shy and put the breaks on telling her again, no it parts on the side, and I don't have bangs, my hair comes forward and tapers across my forehead. She did a yeah yeah and turned me around and proceeded to cut it with the part down the middle and bangs straight across my forehead. She clearly realized her mistake because she then pushed my hair over and then tried reshaping the bangs she cut only making them way too short. When she realized there was nothing she could do she loaded my hair with product and got rid of me as quickly as possible. So finally (only because my elderly mother likes this place) my third visit I saw Theresa. Did the same exact routine, same instructions. I walked out again with bangs straight across my forehead and a part down the middle. I do not have a pixie I look like Michael J Fox from the 80's. I don't know what brand of stupid these people are-they can't look at a picture to understand what you are asking for! But trust me, learn from my mistakes; it is sooooooo not worth it. read more
