I called my sister, asked her if she could get us an appointment with Christina here for a Shellac manicure. Shellac is a polish that doesn't damage your natural nail (no filing the tops like gels) and it is UV cured, so it lasts about 10 days to 2 weeks. The Shellac I got here is the best one that I've ever had. She was careful not to get it on my cuticles and did two thin layers of a cheery Christmas-y color. Christina took her time, went over the tip like you're suppose to, and cleaned the top coat twice to get them super shiny. It's been two weeks exactly, and there are two small chips on my pointer fingers, but they are minimal and speak more to my use of my nails to pry stuff open rather than the polish. My main issue is my nails are growing out, so the polish needs redone. My sister sees Christina regularly, and she either has classy looking nails or some fun treatment or glitter for whatever season it is. I wish that I lived closer as this was the best Shellac I've ever had, as well as the least expensive at $20! Next time I'm in Iowa, I'll be stopping back by!

I went to Sandy's Nails for a walk-in pedicure -- one of those "on a whim" self-care moments. The tech who did my toes did a great job, and I was really happy with how they turned out. The work itself was solid, and I'd definitely want to book with her again. The only thing I didn't really care for was how loudly some things were communicated. When services were being recommended, it felt like it was announced pretty loudly, and when I paid, another employee called out my tip across the room to the tech. I wasn't embarrassed, but I do prefer a little more privacy when it comes to personal or financial details.
