The inconsistency here makes it really hard to like them. The doctor is good and the lens company they work with is also pretty good but man. The customer service here is really bad--aside from Joyce, shes great. I used to come here a lot when I'm close to Chinatown. Back then I didn't think too much just kind of let them take the lead but every time the glasses cost at least $500 and thats if I buy a cheap frame. The first time I ran into an issue with this place was soon after the first lockdown. I wanted to get new glasses but the other glasses shop kept getting bad lenses so I called hoping to get a copy of my prescription, which by law, I have the right and am entitled to a copy. The man at front desk denied and refused to provide a copy for me. And insisted I go in to buy a pair new glasses from them. His exact quote was "I don't care, I'm not giving you your prescription." But then Joyce called and apologized so I did end up going back to get a new prescription this summer after I was fully vaccinated. They have this a policy where if you want to get ur contact exam there you have to buy 2 boxes from them. Which is fine and whatever, but when I asked to have my contact delivered to my address the doctor told me I have to go back for a follow-up in 2 weeks and I have to have worn the contacts for at least 4 hours prior to my followup. Before my follow up, I had called and reported the contacts is kind of blurry, I cant read anything if I'm farther than 2 feet away which is going to be an issue driving or trying to read from big screen. They said they had already ordered my contacts so I should wear it some more then when it's time for follow up I can get it re-examined to see if adjustment is needed. But after waiting for nearly a month without hearing back I called them and they told me wrong prescription was sent to them so I need to wait some more because they placed another order. Which doesn't make a ton of sense since I already reported issue with current prescription so they should have just asked me to do my follow up before ordering. So I waited, and waited, and finally had the time to go there for the follow up. I was running a few minutes late and even called to make sure doc will be there. When I arrived I saw both the man in front and the doctor. Both without face mask on. They buzzed me in and the doctor went into the back. When I brought up I'm here for follow up the man in the front just started making things up, note, he wasn't even there when I got my exam done. And he just started saying the doctor said you didn't need to follow up. And when I said yes he literally did which is why I spent $60 and an hour to uber here. He then said "oh the doctor just meant if nothings wrong then you don'y need to follow up" except there is! And he was the person who answered my call when I told them the contact makes words blurry. And then he started saying oh the doctor already left lol like what????? The doctor was literally here, the store doesn't close for another 30 minutes. I literally went there because I was told I needed to go there otherwise I would have had my contacts sent to me. I'm not going to take some faulty lense with me and just wear it. The lack of care and work ethic really jeopardizes the livelihood of patients who visit this place. If you don't want to see patients, tell them, so they don't waste time and money to go in the store. I'm perfectly fine not going in and reschedule till after mask mandate is off. Cant believe these people are so selfish. I'd rate them 1 star but Joyce really does make a difference. Won't be visiting this place ever again. If I'm getting blurry vision then I'd rather get it elsewhere where at least the customer service is good. read more

Dr. Wallace chan one kickass eye doctor, but it hassle when you want copy of your exam. Expensive and don't know to get things done. They will rip you off. They will charge extra fees. I called Dr. Chan no response or follow up. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

This eyecare is THE WORST place to go to. They don't know what they're doing and uses their patients as experiments to test whether or not they can fulfill your need. I received a a pair of contact lenses and they continue to mess up every single time I go. Wearing contacts for 10+ years I have specific brand requests and sometimes the optometrist can be stubborn and won't prescribe what I want. I mean who wants to spend 500$ for a year supply of contacts? This place is great they give you what contact brand you like and provide quick service. I recently stopped in to get a pair of blue light glasses to help with my eye strain. They have a great selection of frames and I wear my glasses so much especially when using the computer. Ever since I've moved to Chicago, I've been coming to Sharp Vision Eye Care Center. The place has a great selection of frames and contact lenses. Everything is very professional and direct. Benard is always helpful with choosing frames. He is very honest and has a great sense of humor. Not to mention, staff there can speak English, Cantonese, & Mandarin so the customers there are very diverse despite it being located in Chinatown. I've gotten glasses and contacts here and never had a problem. I can trust them to give me honest prices and if you're nice, they might even throw in a discount. :D read more

Dr. Chan is a very experienced optometrist. The eye exam was very thorough. He checked my eyes in every aspects before giving me some trial contact lenses. When I go back for the follow-up of my contact lenses, again, he made sure everything was right before ordering for me. (My eyes are very sensitive, tried many brands in Walmart and didn't work so I gave Dr. Chan a try). I'm not going anywhere else as Sharp Vision has it all. I have been wearing glasses since I was 15 years old and at 53 I can honestly say dr. Chan is the best optometrist I have come across. Bernard, the clinic manager, is also excellent at his job and very professional. They make a great team. I started seeing dr. Chan more than a year ago and so far have had two examinations a year apart. He is always very professional and very thorough in measuring and finding the best fitting contact lenses and perfect strength of lens for my eyes. It makes for a very comfortable and wonderful wearing experience especially when I am playing league tennis matches and need to see the ball and lines clearly. (I have had my share of bad optometrists so at this stage I can recognise one who is superior!) My reading glasses are also excellent and the lenses that Sharp Vision use are an excellent quality. They do not scratch easily or get smudges on them easily. (With my previous "bad optometrist" experience the lenses would smudge so easily, I had to clean them all the time which was really annoying and they scratched easily. Those lenses were also very thin.) I highly recommend dr. Chan and Bernard! Also, I do not have healthcare insurance and pay out of pocket - by choice. I was visiting relatives in Chicago and needed an eye exam. My relatives recommended Dr Wallace Chan at Sharp Vision in Chinatown. Dr Chan was very patient and gave me a thorough eye exam. The front desk guy was super nice and helpful. He patiently explained to be the pros and cons of different frames and lenses (e.g. Antiglare and thin). I ended up ordering a pair of new glasses and contacts. I have astigmatism. In the past, I could still see a bit shadow even with the correctly prescribed contacts. The first pair of my contact wasn't the best fit. But they are good with adjusting the prescription. They triple checked if I feel comfortable wearing the glasses and contacts they prescribed. Terrible customer service. I would not recommend this place at all for anyone. The man who works the counter is extremely rude and condescending. I came in twice for a followup because my eyes did not tolerate the first trial pair. When I asked for a receipt in case anything went wrong, he complained how much I came back. I went to Visionworks in the South Loop and the service was great and they did not complained when I came in more than once for a followup. Someone I knew also got glasses here at Sharp and went inside to tighten the frame, this man at the counter (older with glasses tall pale skin...must be a relative of the owner because he is always there despite his bad service) did not want to do a simple adjustment and kept on asking questions whether she was a real former customer or not. He is paranoid and rude. On a brighter note..the doctor is nice and friendly...but he just needs to get more professional employees working there that do not whine when something unexpected happens. read more

I've gotten both my glasses and contacts from this store, and there's honestly nothing to complain about. There's a lot of selection in terms of classic frames, and they helped me pick out a pair that fit my face/style. They also helped me overcome my fear of contacts and taught me to put them on and take them off. Also, eye exams are actually quite enjoyable, because the doctor is a sweet man who does a pretty thorough job. I made this account JUST so that I could review this horrible place. AVOID THIS PLACE IF POSSIBLE. THE DOCTOR HERE IS INCOMPETENT AND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING. I came to him for Ortho-K lenses (Put in at night then in morning vision is clear). The first time he prescribed the contacts for me they were SUPER small and messed up my eyes. My vision was blurry and I couldn't see at all. I had to purposely come back from college to do another check up. He sent me another pair in the mail. This time the contacts were bigger but my left eye was clear for the day (then became blurry at night) and the right eye was completely blurry. I kept wearing them like he told me to and my eyes started hurting with pain. Every day was different. I couldn't see near, far or even in between, making it hard to study and do every day things. When I concentrated on reading something (like a traffic sign) I would get severe headaches and my eyes would water. I had to purposely go back for another check up again and asked him what was wrong. He kept on making incorrect explanations for why the contacts were not working. Stuff like -- the contacts are only made for sleeping less hours -- and CRT is not the same as Ortho-K. Honestly, after consulting my previous Ortho-K doctor, I realized that Dr. Wallace Chan was BS'ing me. The guy has no idea what he is talking about and was using me as a guinea pig. He didn't know how to fit lenses and was, instead, damaging my eyes. When I came back again and tried on the third contact he dropped them on the ground. He was on his hands and knees patting the ground for 15 minutes trying to find the contact. I went back home and tried them again and I felt the same symptoms above. Although Dr. Wallace Chan is at fault for damaging my eyes and providing me lenses that don't work, he refuses to give me a refund. Actually, he said he'd work out a refund with me, then a few days later takes it back after I said I didn't want to continue on with his business. I'm down ~$1400 because of this idiot and am in the process of a chargeback. In addition, the customer service is HORRIBLE. The desk guy, Bernard, goes up to me and says "What's your problem" when I told him that I wanted a refund. Both the doctor and the desk guy is incredibly petty, unreasonable, and most of all INCOMPETENT!!!! DON'T GO THROUGH THE STRESS. IT'S NOT WORTH IT. read more

They made sure that I would get my glasses before I had to leave and called me right when it was done. Additionally, the selection of frames was pretty great.
