A very nice optical shop. I have gotten glasses there a few times. But it's hit and miss as to whether you get someone who is really willing to help and take time. My last pair of glasses from a year ago just don't fit right. I have to have them very high on my nose to see out of the progressive section for reading. When I was there this week, I asked if they could be adjusted and was told that probably the measurements were done wrong when I purchased the glasses from them, and there probably isn't an adjustment that can be made. She didn't even look at the glasses to try to help. Instead she wanted me to buy a new pair because I'd just seen the doctor--who did not think I necessarily needed to get new glasses because my prescription had changed very little. All I want is personal customer service and feel that I and my money are valued enough to receive this. read more

I want to give a HUGE thank you to Monica Ulloa. She's an optician at Horizon Eye Care/Sharona Optical. After my eye exam I needed to get new glasses. I had some questions about lenses that filter out blue light from my phone, tablet, etc. She went out of her way to research the answers!!! She truly cared and went above and beyond!!! For the past three years, I had NOT filled my prescriptions at Sharona Optical. There were two reasons: the cost and the staff. I was never made to feel welcome, and it always seemed like the folks there were looking at the wait area to see how many more patients needed to be measured and/or sold glasses. Even to call them on the telephone was a nightmare. This has since changed! There is an individual named Mike who is now with Sharona. While waiting to be seen for two different appointments, I observed him and how he related to the patients/clients/customers. I am impressed!! Not ready to even look at frames, he took the time to answer some questions I had (knowing that I would be leaving without ordering anything), and when he did so, he made eye contact, was sincere, and really gave an impression that he truly cares. This is a clear indication that he does. So, I have made the decision to go back to Sharona and see him. I already know he will give me the time and expertise needed. Everything happens for a reason. My negative experience with Sharona Optical and their apparently affiliated Horizon Eye Specialists & LASIK Center has been too long and involved to recount without boring a reader to tears, but the bottom line is it's been REALLY bad for me. I would only recommend them to a prospective eye care patient if (for some awful reason) I hated them a lot, and wanted them to beat their head against a wall until it bleeds. I'm getting a headache right now just thinking about having made the mistake of doing business with them. read more

First and foremost, my optician, Doug Gebhart, was gracious, professional, experienced, and quite a role model for how the public should be cared for. Horizon Eye should be very proud and confident to have this gentleman in their employ. My glasses fit from the first time I slipped them on with the added bonus of looking great for my type of face. Slow, disorganized, and it felt like they were more interested in selling glasses, contacts and all the add-ons than the health of my eyes. I've worn glasses and contacts for 20+ years, and this experience was noticeably different. I'm sure the eye doctors are probably good...of my two hours in their office, I saw him for 5 minutes. The rest of my time was spent in the waiting room, with an intern, and being up sold for all the add-ons around my contact and glasses (like a used car dealer selling you the sealer wax). Pros: solid selection of designer glasses, coffee while you wait in their lobby. Cons: slow, disorganized, limited time with actual eye doctor, seemingly focused on sales volume and turning patients. Your mileage may vary, I have definitely come to expect more from my eye doctors and their staff. read more

I had purchased some expensive prescription Maui Jims MJ Sport with custom lens & had been perfectly satisfied.... I should be, they were really expensive. So I call in for help with the nose pad that are custom to the glasses & they can not help me without me bringing in the glasses. REALLY, I have to drive 30 minutes to show you my glasses. You can not look up the order & tell me if you have anything in stock & you can not give me an approximate price. In other words you can not be bothered to provide me with customer service. I do not think I will be back... even though it is time for another pair of expensive, prescription sports glasses. Addition: I have been contacted, apologized to & told they have nose pads for me BUT unfortunately I have already received excellent support directly from Maui Jim. To late, to little. read more

Go somewhere else! Surreptitiously double-billed my insurance provider and me for the contacts. They were compensated full price by me and then got a back-end payment by the insurance company. Went in for my initial eye exam, which should have been simple since I've worn contacts for over 20 years. Didn't get the final contacts until January!! read more

My original review is below. I have changed the review from 1 star to 3 stars. The optical manager just phoned me...great customer service! He wanted to discuss my comments about the higher cost of the lens and that I will not be returning. He explained the differences in poly-carbonate lens; nothing was explained to me when I picked up the lens. That said, as a consumer, my old lens were great...no problems and I know the optical store where I purchased them would have stood behind them if there was something wrong. Looking out the lens is what is important to me...along with cost. The optical manager refunded $100 to me; assured me they are competiive with their pricing. When I return to this office with my husband in April...Dr. Herro is excellent...I will ask for the optical manager and we will discuss prices of lens and eyeglasses. So...the optical manager is making amends...and I appreciate good customer service AND competitive pricing. "Expensive! Expensive! Expensive! My replacement lens were almost $200 more than my previous lens from another optical store. I wish I had read these reviews...or at least did a price comparison. Absolutely hands down ..the worst place in ALL of Arizona to buy glasses or contacts . They are not even remotely concerned with your visual well being . It's all about commission and they really have no real idea of what your insurance will cover. But they want to sell you the moon !! Highly unorganized . Everyone is on their cell phones and it's all about commission and not for your vision well being.. once you buy your glasses or contacts .. They don't know whom you are !! SERIOUSLY !!! ???????? Sharona Optical is complete optical center for prescription glasses. I purchased two pairs of glasses recently. The prescription on one of the pair was incorrectly made by their laboratory. Thanks to Doug Gebhart, the Manager at Sharona Optical, he handled the matter in a most professional manner. He expedited the remake and kept me informed of the progress when I might expect my glasses. While I am sure there are competent personnel at Sharona Optical to handle your glass needs, I would ask for Doug. read more

Please know making a complaint is not something I enjoy but this needs to be said. When ordering sunglasses I relied on the girl at the optical desk at Horizon in Phoenix. The frames came in completely different than I had wanted. Was told I could order frames from elsewhere because they were not allowed and they would switch the lenses. I told the girl the model # and brand I was ordering. When the new frames were delivered the lenses were a different size and I was told they could not do anything. The amount of money I am out is a great deal and I am very disappointed in the service I received. I took the frames I ordered myself to another optical and getting my prescription done there and the cost is so much more reasonable than Sharona. Just spoke with Doug from Sharona Optical and could not be more satisfied. He has made me have trust in their company and sure to do business with them in the future. Last Monday I brought in a pair of designer sunglasses that I had purchased at a retail store and needed the lenses to be changed out for prescription progressive sunglasses. I was greeted by Rita Rahberg who would assist me. From the moment I sat down across from Rita I felt an instant connection with her. She was out going, extremely professional, and very knowledgeable. Once you took the measurements and fittings she even asked another associate to come over to double check her measurements. I was told the new prescription lenses would be ready within 7 to 10 days. To my surprise she called me this Friday and told me my new lenses were ready. My husband and I immediately went to Horizon and Rita was just as friendly and outgoing As she was on Monday. She had me test read with the new lenses and told me that she had expedited the processing of my order! Also, I was giving a discount as part of my AARP Medicare health insurance. I could not be happier with how Rita handled this transaction; she is a true professional! I was so satisfied I wrote a complimentary email to her general manager, who responded to me the day after!
