But some of them, both tea items and jewelry, were on sale. The store also has a menu with few tea flavors. They sell moon cakes too. We ordered a cup of tea. Cute tea shop! Love that it's authentic and it's the one of the only full tea shops in the city I think. The gentleman here working on July 1, 2024 at 11AM was so friendly. He was also very knowledgeable about the teas. He was so patient with me when I asked him about the jewelry on display. I got a rare harvest winter tea, which was just what I was looking for. I had my eye on that when I walked in, and when the employee recommended it, I knew it was a sign. I also got the pineapple mooncake which tasted a little funny to me. It was cold, which probably makes sense because it was most likely refrigerated. I prefer my moon cakes at room temperature, but I can't fault the place for that! Would be logistically hard to do that without spoiling batches of product. The jewelry was cool. Hand braided string with nice quality stones. I ended up buying an onyx bracelet and a jade bracelet. I know exactly what to pair them with! The onyx bracelet did have visible glue where the diamond-like stones were adhered to the onyx, but I don't really mind that. The jade bracelet was just the perfect hue to match my skin tone. The interior is calm, with some traditional instrumental Chinese music lightly playing in the background. The seats are wooden but comfortable. They also have a lot of tea equipment on display and for sale. They use square, which is very convenient. There is a charge if you use credit cards on anything under $5, which is totally fair. The employee said that Shang came here in 2000 and ended up setting a combo tea and jewelry shop. He didn't expect to end up in Kansas City. So unexpected, but very cool. It's in the path connected right to the Westin, where I was staying it. As such, it was super convenient to walk to it. Because everything was indoors, I stayed dry and out of the rain that day. I wish there was a Shang's Tea House where I live. This is conveniently located in Crown Center. It's one of the first shops you'll see in the hallway connecting the Westin to the shopping center. I enjoyed the authentic Chinese tea and mooncakes made in-house. The shop also sells tea sets and traditional Chinese jewelry. This is a great addition to the mall and it made my stay at the Westin more enjoyable. I bought the pineapple mooncake and lotus seed mooncake and they held up well on the flight back home. I was surprised and delighted to find a tea place in Kansas City. There are gifts such as fancy boxes, fans, jade, paintings, etc. along with the tea-related offerings they have. You can try some of their teas as drinks to-go or buy loose leaf bags of it (some in sample sizes, some in full sizes). I love that they also offer mooncakes to go with the tea. Their handmade mooncakes fit in the palm of my hand and are delicious. I associate moon cakes with the autumn festival, so I'm glad somewhere offers them year-round! There was a seasonal (?) gingerbread one when I went, which I liked, but my favorite was the pineapple. I normally don't like lotus in normal-sized mooncakes, but in these small mooncakes, they were delicious. At $3 each, they're a steal. The mugs and tea sets they have make great gifts, but I enjoyed the tea the most. I highly recommend the white tea pu-erh and the tangerine blossom red tea (Chinese call it red tea, but it's known as black tea in English). read more

High quality, well-sourced tea with really knowledgeable people in a tranquil environment. My husband and I stopped in for a quick snack and cup of tea. Their house-made mooncake was really yummy and my cup of white peony king tea was so good that I had to buy some for home. I also picked up the owner-designed ceramic tea cup in the classic blue color. We chatted a bit with the employees and learned that the owner, Shang, goes to China (outside of covid times, obviously) twice a year for harvesting. Also, this tea shop specializes in white tea. Shang Dim Sum Tea House, located on the ground floor of the Crown Center, has a simple menu with only a few offerings, but they are done well. They have self-proclaimed their restaurant as having "perfected traditional Chinese dishes using only the highest quality, organic, or locally grown ingredients." And I don't disagree. Shang's Chicken Rice $9 - braised premium quality chicken with organic spices, and specialty steamed rice, savory sauce, with green onion garnish. It was tasty and simply comforting food. It came in a small bowl almost fit for a child, but surprisingly it contained an ample amount of food. Dumplings $7 - five premium quality chicken, organic spices and fresh ginger; prepared boiled, not fried, and garnished with green onion. They were perfectly cooked without being mushy, and were accompanied with a vinegar, citrus shoyu sauce. These were the only two items I ordered, and leftovers made a wonderful second meal. Shang's also offers a Sprout Salad $5 - Organic, soy free, gluten free green mung bean sprouts, kale and cabbage, organic vinegar, sesame oil, and organic spices, for the vegans. There were also a couple of other specialty dishes like a chicken soup and salad. Moon cakes, a traditional baked Chinese pastry made with organic flour, organic sugar, lotus seed paste or red bean paste, can be paired with one of their many types of teas - Farm to cup organic white tea, green tea, wu-long tea, red tea and more. Lunch/afternoon tea hours 11-3. Sides are also available such as rice $2, dumpling $1.50, sprout salad $3, and Shang's chicken $7. Their slogan, "Simple - Authentic - Unique" is most appropriate, but I'd like to also add their service was very friendly. Do not come here looking for har gow, shu mai, or all those other dishes. The food menu here is simple with a few options, but those few options will blow you away. Everything has a clean taste and is handmade fresh with high quality ingredients and attention to details. The dumplings -- plump, juicy, and paired with a sesame soy sauce that is almost drinkable like water -- are the best I have ever had. The chicken rice is made with the sweet vinegar rice that is used in sushi and is perfect with the well seasoned chicken. The tea egg that goes with the chicken rice or by itself is amazing as well. The bean sprout salad is refreshing and full of flavor despite how bland bean sprout usually is. Do not forget the moon cake for dessert. It is made with organic sugar and no preservatives unlike the typical moon cakes you find at the supermarkets. The tea is as clean and refreshing as the food. Just a quick note that the tea here is not meant to have sugar or honey added to it. There is a wide variety of tea that is organically grown on a farm in China belonging to Mr. Shang, the kind shop owner. In fact, he spends two months a year on his farm. The tangerine blossom is quite popular, but you will not go wrong with whatever you choose. If you are undecided, Mr. Shang and his staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, and ready to prepare samples. This is the place to go for real Chinese food and tea, and the ambiance here will leave you feeling so zen. It is the perfect place for a mental break, especially after a stressful day. This was my favorite spot when I first visited Kansas City a week ago. Visited this place three times when I needed a break. All of the workers were knowledgeable of how to make tea properly. My tea-enthusiast friend (who has not had a good cup of white tea ever) was surprised at how great the aged white tea tasted. (She even picked up two bags of tea for herself and her Chinese in-laws.) The problem with white tea is that it always varies from brand to brand and where the tea was produced. The tea they sell here is high quality and tastes really good. As I was eating my bowl of chicken rice, I overheard the owner being interviewed by a local Asian association about his backstory. He mentioned something about going back to hand-pick the tea once or twice a year. There are about 12~20 people that work on the farms during that season. This is some authentic tea. Although their menu is quite small, they're consistently good at what they produce. Being away from home on vacation, the chicken rice was super filling and was just what I needed. Good Asian comfort food for me. This place also has homemade moon cakes without preservatives. The sweetness is perfectly balanced with a pot of tea. I found this shop in the Crown Center, Kansas City downtown. I wasn't looking for tea but the fresh moon cakes caught my eye. I ordered the traditional bean and a pineapple cake. There are tables to sit and drink tea or eat your mooncakes along with Chinese decorative items for sale there. The employee was courteous and efficient with the order. Overall a good experience. First off, it is relaxing and soothing as soon as you walk in the doors. Amazing for it being in the middle of Crown Center. I really did not know what to expect from a tea place. I tried a variety of teas and each one of them was amazing. This is definitely a different level than what you find at your grocery store. They educated me on tea and just quality of it, that it is amazing how much work goes into tea! I'm excited to live so close ~ it may be my new spot. Stumbled upon this cute, Japanese restaurant, decided to stop by and give it a try. Ordered some dumplings, chicken over steamed rice & hot jasmine green tea. First of all, may I just say that I love and respect owners that work in their own restaurant like this one. I think it's makes lot of difference. The prices are quite inexpensive $7 for 5 dumplings. I was so happy to find Shang's Tea House in the Crown Center. I have been on the hunt for traditional chinese dumplings and tea...HERE IT IS! The shop itself has a collection of beautifully carved jade figurines, delicately painted fans and leaves, a collection of jade jewelry and an entire wall is dedicated to displaying the vast tea assortment. The teas were hand selected by the owner, Shang. He carefully picked and displayed his collection that varied from medicinal to relaxation targeted teas. The service was wonderful. Every person I interacted with at Shang's was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the inventory. I even got the opportunity to meet Shang himself! It is very apparent he is dedicated to the quality and continued success of his shop. I ordered a pot of a fruity based tea, the house (made to order) dumplings and finished off the visit with the lotus mooncake. I was impressed with how fresh the dumplings tasted, along with the perfectly accompanied sauce that was light and brought out the flavor of the pork. I must have stopped in at a prime time, because the moon cakes were FRESH from the oven!!! I have never had fresh mooncake before, and it was SO much better than "stale" moon cake that sits in the display case all day. I really enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere here. You can tell that it is something that is focused on. Tea is the primary product at Shang's, but they have a very small menu of really great food! It's kind of tucked in the middle of Crown Center and quite frankly a lot of people walk right past it. Unfortunate. We had a great experience here today! We ordered one of everything on the menu (literally 4 items) and the server automatically split it on 2 plates, which was nice! The chicken was good but familiar, couldn't put my finger on where I recognize it from. The dumplings will have me coming back! They were so simple but so delicious and authentic. It really cozied me up and was a perfect match with the tea house vibe. Lots of people were just hanging out drinking pots and pots of hot tea. There was a compelling aroma in the room. For years I have been drinking "black tea" as we call it in the United States you know that stuff you get at apple bees or the local bar , and have been enjoying it every time. As you get older you begin to think of ways to live a healthier life so when I told my doctor I drink tea all day and mix in the occasional glass of water she frowned and told me to cut back unless I was drinking a true healthy organic tea. So I begin my journey as so many of us do on the internet searching to find a local tea shop in Kansas City, and honestly struggled a bit, and then I found Shang TEA. I called 45 minutes before they were going to close and he gladly said they would be open until I arrived. When I walked thru the door he greeted me with and smile and asked me if I was eating alone when I told him I was here to buy loose leaf tea to brew at home he rushed me over to the wall that had several jars of tea leaves on display and he began to tell me his story. The story he was telling was not a story at all it was a lesson in growing, picking, and brewing tea, he was educating me in the world of Chinese tea and I didn't even know it . He offered me a seat at his tasting table and glass after glass he had me sample the tea that he was extremely proud to talk about. Know I must say I haven't been to the high mountains of China or tasted tea when it's been prepared the traditional way. But I do know what is absolutely delicious and can appreciate the finer things in life. I believe Shang teas are just that, grown with pride harvested with love and sold in Kansas City from a man named Shang who owns a small tea farm in China. For now my search for the finest tea leaves will be put on hold and I will pause life and enjoy something that a man and his family have put all their time love and effort into. Anyone can sell you tea leaves and tell you they are the best but Shang will make you truly believe it. Well I didn't think I had anyway to get more caffeinated throughout my day but here we are. Shang Tea is a delicious, high quality spot, and most importantly an easy way to get great tea in KC. I discovered it along a local "Caffeine Crawl" route and was very impressed with the tea itself and the knowledgable staff. We tried the white tea, oolong (they pronounced it "woo-long"), and red tea, and the white would be a good afternoon tea as the caffeine is negligible but just enough to keep you going. We learned that the caffeine in tea bonds different during consumption during others, and I'm speculating that's why there's a nice sort of buzz that I tend to feel with it. The oolong was my favorite as it's a nice middle ground tea that has a nice flavor. The owner of this shop goes to the Fujian region of China each spring and fall for various harvests and brings it back to KC - pretty cool. Sometimes I think tea is a bit overwhelming because I don't have all the equipment for it, but Shang covers this very well. They have these handy porcelain mugs that do it all. It's a mug with an insert that you can brew the tea for 2-3 minutes, then put the damp tea leaves onto the mug lid while it sits. You can re-brew that same batch of tea leaves at least 3 times, and it's an all in one easy mug/system for $30. Definitely worth it! So if you're like me and can't drink coffee all day long, this is a spot to go pop into because the staff seriously knows their stuff in a friendly way, and their tea is top-notch. read more

I don't even have words for this place! I love tea and this place is Heaven. We discovered it while on the Caffeine Crawl ( if you don't know what that is check it out NOW!) The staff is very informative and you can tell have a passion for their job. All their teas are for sale (loose leaf) and are decently priced, especially if you are a true tea connoisseur and know how to brew your tea correctly. Their tea leaves are spectacular and have a true aroma and flavor of how tea should taste, not the chain store bought stuff you all are used too. I won't hold it against you I buy that stuff too! You can order a pot of tea and enjoy it in their establishment with friends/family or with yourself! The owner also created a special porcelain individual tea mug you can buy created specially for loose leaf tea.
