Love this place! Staff was extremely personable and polite, and food was good. I had the Mongolian beef and it was extremely flavorful - very heavy on the vegetables, though. Prices were great for lunch - I believe my meal was $12, before tip. The only knock I have against this place is the cleanliness, which left a lot to be desired. Also, there was only one waitress tending the whole store, which was about ten tables + bussing/cleaning, + to-go orders. I don't mind waiting for service, I just feel bad for her! We haven't had Shanghai in a very long time we get it tonight and there is a rock in my rice. That's $24.00 I will not get back and thank God I felt it in my mouth and pulled it out as I just had work done on my teeth today! We got the mandarin chicken and pork fried rice! I did call and they offered me a new plate. She did say that it could have come from the bag of rice. Just watch your rice in case so you don't break a tooth :) read more

Clean the place!!! We have eaten there once and had a bug (roach?) Crawl out from our salad.

Decent food, ordering was a little weird. There is a section of the menu that requires minimum of 2 in order to order. We did that and expected a large shareable portion for my husband and I. We only got one crowded plate but it was only for one. I ended up just trying a bit from everyone's plate. ( note: we were not charged for 2 people ) The kids and I liked the orange chicken. The rice was not very good. Had no flavor, probably the worst fried rice, I have ever had. I did enjoy some of the other items. My husband did not like the chow mein and said he would not be returning. As for the kids and I, we would give it another shot, minus the rice. read more

Great little family run place, I have stopped in a few times through town and haven't ever been disappointed. I asked for an off the menu vegetarian dish, and they were quick to accommodate. Service is very fast, portions are large, and pricing is very reasonable. I would highly recommend if you're in the area. read more

Nice restaurant. Nice owners. Good food. Plenty of parking. Whats not to like? The 5 of us needed dinner. Being late and nobody wanted to start dinner that late. We went out. C-19 has taken a toll on restaurants. It's good seeing some surviving and doing well. Shanghai wasn't busy inside but they had a steady flow of TOGO orders. The owners were running around making everything good. Smiling the whole time. Every one liked their food. The Kung Poa Shrimp i ordered was a bit vegetable heavy and not spicy really but still good. All the portions were huge, so naturally, there were togo boxes. Not an expensive dinner either. Sure we'll be back. read more

I am use to SF Chinatown food so there is absolutely NO comparison. the food is mediocre. customer service is not a priority. I ordered $25+ in take out. I don't eat meat and I asked them to leave the meat out and please add tofu. He said only for an extra price. I want them to take out the expensive meat and add $1 worth of tofu?? Next time I will have them put the meats on the side and I will take it home for the feral cats! I never buy the fried rice there. It is bland. I just buy steamed white rice and make my own. Coming from Seattle to work here in Ontario, it was no surprise the Asian restaurants are scarce. Was going to go to Panda Express because it's usually a safe bet but decided to contribute to local businesses. Ordered the kung pao chicken/fried rice and the crispy salted moon dumplings. It could have used more chicken in the kung pao, but it's a great value for the lunch price. The fried moons were decent, they're filled with celery and minced pork, nothing too special. I think I should have got the pot stickers. Why 5 stars? The service was excellent, very attentive and nice. And for a Chinese restaurant in Ontario, it exceeded my expectations. The servers are always nice. The establishment is more of a dive and has a funny smell as most older neglected buildings do. Prices are fair for the most part. There's always at least one thing that tastes off which just could be us but it always changes; sometimes it's the chicken sometimes it's the pork. But overall I love the food! They have a new policy that sucks; if you do take out you can't have soup. And they don't offer a discount or a substitute for it which is bs! Overall great take out. Nastiest food we have ever had. Ordered take out with hot and sour soup because I have a massive head cold and was craving the spice and sour. It tasted and looked like they added sugar and a few chili flakes to the egg drop soup. The fried wontons were just fried skins not stuffed with cream cheese as expected. We also ordered #8 for two and were disappointed in the portions sizes and the lack of flavor. It was so bad I threw the soup away and we ordered new from a different place in town. Spring break kid retrieval from Portland to Boise and back. Found it on yelp and decided to give it a try. We were all pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and the food hot and fresh. Loved the Lemon chicken and fried rice, that perfect lightly breaded crispness that is so hard to find. The hot and sour soup was a good soup but not much like what one would expect when ordering it. Egg drop was good as well. The appetizers were a hit with Everyone, salted moon dumplings *(Think stuffed pastry) steamed potstickers and a just overall decent food especially considering the area. When it comes to Asian food, there are a couple of options in Ontario. This is the best option. The food is decent, the asian family that owns the place are friendly and give decent service. The noodles under the chow mein were very stale and the chicken was in a big piece and not small bit size pieces. The sweet & sour spare ribs were too tough to chew and the soda tasted like water. The reviews of people who say they have eaten here for years have clearly never had actual good chinese food. Ended up throwing away the majority of my takeout dinner. I've been eating here since 1980 under the former owners. The food has always been good, though they keep removing options for vegetarians. It's fresh, crisp, lots of flavor, and one of my favorite places to eat. However I only gave it 5 stars after the fiasco of service the last few times. The owners wife has been waiting table and not taking care of customers. She takes the order in a timely manner, but and drops off the food fast, and then is never seen again until she drops the bill on the table and disappears again, when you wait and wait at the counter to pay. If they ever decide to hire decent wait staff I'll be back, otherwise I'll be looking for somewhere else to eat. read more

The Shanghai is by far the best Chinese food for miles (outside of Boise's Panda Garden). The staff is friendly and the food is prepared fast. The owner and his wife are the chefs and you can tell they take pride in the meals they make. My grandmother and I visit Shanghai once a week and order the orange and lemon chicken dinners. They are delicious. Skip the Far East or any other Chinese food joint in the area; Shanghai is by far the best. read more

I called in a take-out order,the girl on the phone was nice and pleasant.I had a 20 minute drive so she held the order so it would be ready when I pulled in,.awesome.The food however was not.The shrimp were not cleaned,and were full of poop .,the sweet and sour pork had no sauce so it was just batter fried pork balls,the bbq pork was not bbq nor did it have much flavor at all.The fried rice was gross.the almond chicken was tasty but there was only about 4 or 5 bites of it setting on top of fried noodles,I now I see why that on a Saturday evening at 6pm there were only 2 people in the place.so 5 bucks in gas and about 9 for the "food",no not worth it I won't be back read more
