They currently only have a Chinese menu, so I will have to try a few more items and report back. I am intrigued by homey dishes like Stir Fried Pork Kidneys with Shrimp.

The mood for Chinese take-out came about tonight and I searched for the nearest place for it. The name really serves its justice. It tastes more like a Hong Kong Chinese quality restaurant rather than a Chinese fast food joint. I'm surprised. I guess I found the right place! The broccoli is cooked just right with some softness along with some crunch in each bite. The chicken is also cooked perfectly with such tenderness. What I really, really, really like is their garlic sauce, which actually has some spiciness unlike some other places, and they give so much sauce, like my broccoli was totally drenched in the garlic sauce! Ok, it's not a like but a LOVE! I absolutely love to eat my food with garlic sauce and they really made me fall in love with their special garlic sauce. Yummilicious for real and I can order anything with their garlic sauce on any given day! Ok enough with the garlic sauce haha did I mention their pork fried rice is out of this world! It has what us Chinese people call it "wok hay", meaning the fried rice is cooked very well in the wok that it has this distinguish superb taste that can only be produced using a wok. Another like! My husband really likes the egg roll, thin crust and crispy all the way! We both like this place a lot based on their food and we canNOT lie!

Hidden in a far corner of the New World Mall food court, overshadowed by the ice cream crepe stall…read morenext to it, is a stall called Yanbian. But you won't see any English that names it as Yanbian, the name is only written in Chinese and Korean. Yanbian is an autonomous region in Northeastern China where a large population of ethnic Koreans live, and it was after this region for which this Korean Chinese-operated stall in the food court was named. Yanbian has a very small menu of noodles and rice dishes prominently displayed in the front. Under the menu laid a spread of skewered food items such as octopus, beef balls, crab meat, tofu skins, etc. For a mere $1, you may have two skewers of any variety of your choosing. The item to note on the menu here is the Korean cold noodles. This is a bowl of buckwheat noodles served in a chilled broth, perfect to cool you down in hot and sticky summer weather. I did not have to work on July 4th and had wanted to get some dimsum for lunch. But my favourite dimsum restaurant, Ocean Jewels, aka Asian Jewels, was insanely busy at noon and I did not want to brave that crowd. Then I thought I would try the new Grand Restaurant at the top of New World Mall. That restaurant, too, was stupidly crowded. I think the entire Chinese population in Queens decided they wanted dimsum in Flushing on July 4th this year. Dimsum plans abandoned, I headed down to the basement of New World Mall, to the food court. I had cold noodles from Yanbian before, and I remembered how much I liked it, so I went back. A few other people were ordering from the stall, but it wasn't crowded like some of the other popular stalls were. I selected six different skewers and gave them to the lady working the front of the stall, together with an order of cold noodles. Altogether it came out to be $9. The lady took my skewers and gave them to a cook in the back. In about five minutes they came back to the lady boiled and cooked. She carefully squeezed two different kinds of hot sauces and some peanut sauce onto the skewers and handed them over. The cold noodles were also ready at about the same time. A cook laid the bowl of noodles and other ingredients down on a counter, and scooped up some chilled broth with a ladle and carefully ran the broth down into the bowl. The result was a bowl of buckwheat noodles with a few pieces of lean cold cut beef, thinly sliced strips of cucumbers, half a boiled egg, a couple of pieces of watermelon and apple, topped off with gochujang and finely diced peanuts. Yes, the cold noodles were just as delicious as it read. The tender buckwheat noodles swimming in the chilled and slightly sour broth had a cooling effect with every slurp, the pieces of beef and boiled egg added substance, and the watermelon and apple complemented the flavour of the broth with a bit of sweetness. This is the kind of meal you want on a hot and sticky NY summer day.

The worst was the drink. I paid EXTRA for strawberry lemonade. Not only was there no strawberry, it wasn't even lemonade. It dusty colored cold water that tasted like someone added a teaspoon of lemon concentrate. No sweetness, barely any flavor at all. Just a weak hint of fake lemon. Definitely no strawberries. The food itself was not great. Just meh. The lamb vindaloo was the only thing with any character. I think there were 4 small cubes of lamb and 3 small potato cubes. I know it's a lunch portion, but dang. They didn't skimp on the sauce though. Everything was drowning in sauce. I've never had thin tomato soup before, but the flavor was OK. I might try those ingredients myself at home with some Campbell's - and a heavier hand. At least it was piping hot. The one thing I really liked was the naan! It was soft and warm and tasted like it had just been made. This was a $20 order, I expected a lot better. I didn't think the bread would be the star of this show.

This model seems to have worked well for Ke Lai Qin inside both New World Mall and New York Food Court. This vendor looks like a carbon copy of those two restaurants. What I'm happy about is that the prices are also similarly inexpensive. Being a huge fan of Spicy Fish Head, which is the head of a freshly killed carp, steamed with a soy based sauce full of chopped chili. My group of three got a small (half a head) portion to share. The steamed fish meat on and around the carp's head is luxurious (but please be mindful of a few small bones). They did a great job making the fish tender and flavorful. Wonderful dish! If you enjoy spicy, I also highly recommend the Scrambled Eggs w/ Hot Peppers. This dish has so much flavor, pairs very well with rice. Stir Fried Pork Liver w/ Scallions is not as spicy, but also quite tasty if you're into that irony flavor. Our least favorite dish was the Sautéed Cauliflower, which wasn't bad at all, just a bit under seasoned. Yet, we did appreciate the texture of the vegetable. Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce was quite mild, with string-cut mushrooms to keep the dish umami and pleasant. Touch of sweetness as well, but mostly forward, deliciously savory morsels of pork and veggie. Amazing spice combinations. Great portions. Super fast delivery. All dishes come with rice.
