My car was illegally towed. I was told my car was towed because it was in someone's spot but in actuality in was in a handicap spot because I have a handicap sticker so this didn't make sense. Seems like they tow random cars just to make money. read more

I had a flat tire heading to work on a cold and snowy day. Shamrock was dispatched and delayed their pick up time TWICE. Once the driver finally arrived he was abrasive and unprofessional, refusing to wear a mask despite me explaining that I was at high-risk of suffering severe complications should I be infected with Covid-19. I sent him on his way and called for another towing service. As I waited for the next service to arrive, I wondered if the driver from Shamrock would have chosen to do the right thing to safeguard my health had he known I was a veteran who served to defend and protect our country and the democratic freedoms he, I and others in this great country enjoy. I wondered if he realized he was taking a stance to defend his perceived right to harm another. Thankfully, the service that was sent arrived when they said they would and the driver was very professional, casting aside disinformation and political views to serve his customer and country. I was grateful to be reminded that wonderful, caring people who work hard, choose to do what's right, and conduct themselves with integrity defines who we really are as Americans. read more

I was subject to a predatory towing company yesterday when parking at the Jr. Achievement Lot in the Short North Arts District. This is an ongoing issue with prior posts on Google about this scam. The parking signs are highly ambiguous/specifically made to be confusing. Shamrock towing explicitly waits to tow your car. Signage for parking for ParkMobile app faces the non-public side and is situated in the middle of a large lot with no apparent distinction, particularly in the dark. The large blue public parking sign is situated on a pole which is the non-public side available for parking. It is hugely frustrating to specifically download and app, designate the parking zone and pay only to find out that your car was 20 feet to the wrong side of the lot and therefore towed with a charge of $156. Short North Arts District needs to change this now as it is clear this is a highly targeted scam which will happen over and over again and serve as a detriment to patrons returning in the future to this area. Shamrock Towing and Metro Storage 1145 Hamlet St, Columbus, OH 43201 are unethical predatory companies. The Short North already has detriments due to crime and parking issues like this will only further perpetuate the unlikelihood of repeat business. read more

I parked my car in a paid parking lot that required payment through the ParkMobile app. I made sure to check the correct zone for my license plate before proceeding. While I was in the process of parking, I noticed a tow truck repeatedly driving past me. Eventually, it parked behind me and seemed to be watching my every move. I scanned the QR code to pay for parking, took out my credit card to complete the transaction, and even made eye contact with the tow truck driver. This went on for about seven minutes, during which the driver did not mention anything about parking restrictions. Since I had already paid and there were no apparent signs indicating any issues, I left my car and went to dinner. When I returned within the allotted time, I found that my car had been towed. The tow truck driver had seemingly waited for me to leave before taking my vehicle. There were no visible signs in the area, and even the person I spoke to when retrieving my car mentioned that they suspected the signs had been removed, as multiple people had been towed from the same spot. It would have been considerate for the tow truck driver to inform me about the parking restrictions if it was a frequently confusing area. Now, I have had to spend $160 to retrieve my car for no apparent reason. As a master's student, I cannot afford to waste money like this, especially when I was careful while parking. This experience has left me extremely frustrated with the company responsible for the parking lot. read more

I've had to tell several cars from my companies parking lot which were parked there illegally and overnight, which we do not allow and we have no parking signs pretty visible, and yet individuals still park in our lot. Basically the mafia. I was parked in a lot with extremely unclear signage that appeared to be a private lot at a coffeeshop. Within 10 minutes of me leaving my car, the truck was there. My car got towed while I watched and begged them not to take it, even though I came out to move my car before the technician had even done any work. I didn't want to pay $60 and had some questions I wanted to ask first, so they raised it to $140. They also told me the staff at the restaurant where I was parked called them to come. But the staff said that wasn't true, so who knows. Extremely predatory and unprofessional. I had to pay them $140 to not drive my car away, when I could have just moved it. Oh and the tech bragged about his commission to me and told me I should have been nicer. Giving honest feedback it so tricky because I truly would just rather not return to the business at all after bad encounter. I was told $180 over the phone would be my fee my my tow- tasha had written down my credit card number incorrectly instead of running it while we are on the phone It was after the fact so it had declined. They gave me five minutes to call back before my car got impounded before they closed. I woke up to a brand new total of $489. Because they never told me all the underlying fees along with charging me for a day because they withheld it. I have a job I did not allow me to be able to get back to them in those five minutes by the time I had called back everyone that I had spoken to that day left. how am I stuck with a way bigger bill than what I was told simply because an employee made a mistake. They snatch cars without even looking to see if it's legally parked. My son's car was removed while he was working as a valet, and he had to walk 40 minutes to pick it up - during his shift - even though he had a tag for his car, and they were still trying to bully him for the money. Fast forward three weeks, and I wasn't as "lucky." The same thing happened to my car and they refused to release my car even though my tag had fallen on the floor of my car. They towed my daughter's car when she and two friends went in a restaurant to pick up an order that was placed and paid for online. They were in the restaurant for 10 minutes at the most. When they came out the car (which was not parked in an illegal spot) was already hooked up to the tow truck. The driver said a lady who lived nearby called on it. So he was saying the lady noticed the car, called the company, he drove out there & hooked up the car, all in less than 10 minutes. What it was is a dirty company parked somewhere just waiting for an opportunity. He saw three college-aged girls get out of the car & thought he hit the jackpot. It cost them $70 to get the car unhooked. Absolutely criminal, they shouldn't be in business. read more

I had an absolutely horrible experience with Shamrock Towing. This location (1145 Hamlet) is disgusting, I felt so completely unsafe walking here from the campus area (from which my car got towed). The lot I parked in didn't have adequate signs posted, but oh well - that part doesn't matter, I'll accept that I was at fault. What matters is how this shit sty of a company conducted themselves when I called to get my car back. The first woman that I got on the phone HUNG UP ON ME before I could get the address of where my car had been towed (I had only been told "to the location off 5th") and I was not told what I would need to get my car back. She was rude and short and apparently didn't appreciate that I was somewhat flustered. I called back and asked to speak to a manager because I felt the service that I had received on the call before was unprofessional and that I needed more information on my car. During this call - to a MANAGER of the company - I was told that I "am not one of their customers" and that "they don't have to take anything from me." I was appalled that I was spoken to this way. The pictures posted of this place don't do it justice - it's much more dingy and seedy than this. I was there today (10/13/2016) and there WAS NOT an ATM on location like I was told. I'm glad I had the cash on hand because they don't take card (which really makes me think that there is some shady, under-the-table towing they have going on). Company told her that the guy said she got in before taking pictures and lied. If your apartment uses this towing company do not live there. On Saturday Dec. 27th 2003, my wife & I, who are both right around 50 years of age, took a "one day vacation" to Columbus. We live near Cortland, Ohio (about 20 miles north of Youngstown). Our general itinerary for the day was to attend a reptile show on the west side, then to go enjoy the city for the rest of the afternoon, and then to dinner in the German village. I remembered that there were some interesting art galleries & small shops on High St. just on the east side of O.S.U. campus, so we went there and browsed a few of the stores. We happened upon a pet shop on the corner of E. 13th St. & Pearl (near High St.). We were in the pet store about ten minutes and upon our departure, we discovered that our vehicle had been "stolen". In a panic, I went back into the pet store to call the police, only to be notified by the owner that it was probably towed away by Shamrock towing, as I had inadvertently parked across the street in the parking area for an apartment building owned by GAS Properties. It was at this point when our nightmare began. You must understand that my wife is a legally blind, semi invalid, diabetic suffering from acute neuropathy. She left her coat in the car, as well as some frogs that she had purchased at the reptile show and her insulin. I called the towing company and was informed that I could pick up my vehicle at their storage yard on Hamlet St. for a fee of $ 109.40. At that point, I did call the police, and was told that they could not help. The pet store owner said that the tow trucks patrol the area like vultures, and provided directions (as my map of Columbus was also in the car), and we started walking. We arrived after an arduous walk of fourteen blocks in the cold at shamrock towing. I provided identification, proof of ownership and paid the pirates, ("cash only") then gathered my totally exhausted wife into the car & drove home for 3 1/2 hours. I made the mistake of parking on their property; (I didn't see the faded sign that was 50 feet away). The sign in question referenced O.R.C. 4513.60. (Which I urge everyone to read). The law states four hours, NOT ten minutes! I do not think that a vehicle displaying a handicapped placard should be towed. People of Columbus, take heed, I as a non-resident am appalled by these predatory underhanded actions. I am here to tell you that everyone who lives in Columbus or visits there must be aware of these unlawful practices, in my opinion. It is my contention that this is a racket and good citizens should not have to be subjected to such an experience. A copy of this letter is being sent to every party concerned as well as Government officials, university departments, newspapers and anyone else who will listen to assist me in putting this to a stop. On my next visit to Columbus, I will not be a tourist; I will probably be a plaintiff. If anyone would have seen the condition that my wife was in that evening and the next few days, you would most certainly understand my determination to inform everyone of this injustice. read more

The only time I ever feel like an outsider amongst OSU c-busites is when everyone starts swapping car towing stories about those crazy nights that ended in the next morning at the impound lot. Or bad parking decisions on game day. I generally find parking in Columbus to be pretty hassle free. I spent about 4 years in Miami, Florida and between tickets and tow fees I think I spent more than my car was worth on SOBE parking. Last night I finally earned my parking stripes. Due to some changes at my work we got stuck without parking for the company car. Our management company is pretty easy going when it comes to parking for tenants so we thought it would be A-Okay if we just kept the car in our lot. This plan seemed to be working until I went to pick up the car after work for travel over the weekend. I went into the lot and our company Camry was no where to be found. Nuts. I cancelled my plans hitched a ride home and figured it out today. Turns out the car was picked up and impounded at shamrock. I learned this after a visit to the police impound lot and schlepped my way over to shady shamrock on hamlet. Despite the fact that it was cash only and the office smelled worse than the NYC subway restrooms used to before they went bust, I had a great experience. It was overall hassle free. I explained that i didn't really own the car, had absolutely no paperwork but there would be extreme consequences if I did not the car back today, the guy behind the window was helpful. I showed my license got the car, they even gave me a push through the ice and I was on my way. I am finally a true buckeye. read more
