My mom lives in the Northwest Suburbs and we finally decided that she could no longer "do it…read morealone". We had gone through a lot with my dad before he passed away and so we knew what we wanted and what we didn't. Unfortunately, the informal network we used for my dad didn't have women caregivers so we were back to to square one. After doing a lot of research with the local senior center and online we called For Papa's Sake, which is based out of the town next to where my mom lives. From the very first phone call I suspected we had gotten lucky. After a couple of calls and some group discussion between me, my mom and a For Papa's Sake senior person we decided we'd try them out. And am I glad we did. They listened to my mom's and my requests, likes, dislikes, deal-breakers etc. and they never batted an eye. They did say it might take a bit longer than usual (given our needs) to find the right care giver, but they called back in less than 5 days and we had a care giver within 10 days to 2 weeks of that 1st main discussion. That care giver has worked out so well. It has really improved our lives and I can go days without worrying about my mom...what a relief. That's what For Papa's Sake provides: relief! If you are looking for an alternative to a nursing home or aged care facility or whatever you want to call it, For Papa's Sake really cares and I would encourage you to give them a call. They have worked out great for us and I would not recommend them for something so important if they weren't doing a great job.

Upon arrival, we got the fancy sales pitch from their leadership team, leading us believe our father was in safe and caring hands. But each visit began to reveal a profound lack of care and a marked decline in his health. We received apologies and assurances from management (right up to the top) that his care would improve, but it never did. Within a few days of leaving Elevate and receiving proper care, he started to make a remarkable recovery - underscoring that Elevate was a toxic environment. Do your research. Google their rating on Medicare.gov. Google the complaints filed with the Illinois Department of Public Health. It's sobering to say the least. Please take this advice to heart and don't make the same mistake with your loved one.

Over the course of two days, a caregiver assigned to my home ignored clear instructions,…read moredisrespected my property, violated my privacy, and behaved in ways that made me feel unsafe and unable to trust her in my home. I used Comfort Keepers, 1400 Lake Cook Rd., Suite 110, Buffalo Grove, and had a very troubling experience with the caregiver assigned to me. I personally showed her all designated trash disposal locations in my building, including a secured trash room on my floor and outdoor dumpsters. Despite this, she removed my household garbage from the property and transported it to her vehicle and later admitted she took it to her home without my permission. This was a serious breach of trust, privacy, and safety, and raised concerns about identity theft. I intentionally folded back a large living room rug so it would not be walked on and clearly explained this to her so it would remain clean. Despite this, she walked across the rug with her shoes on (2X), sat on the other side of the room with her shoes on the rug, and only asked whether this was acceptable after already doing so. Because it was snowy and wet outside, I provided an entry rug for footwear. Upon entering, she removed her boots and placed them directly on the floor near the entrance, leaving visible water. She then moved the wet boots into the closet behind the front door, leaving water inside the closet area. This created a slip hazard and introduced moisture that could lead to mold or mildew. While preparing to leave, and while I was present and observing, she dropped hangers onto the closet floor while removing her coat. She acknowledged that she dropped them after noticing I saw them fall but did not pick them up and instead left them on the floor as she exited, creating a walking hazard. Prior to showering, I prepared mop water using a strong lemon-scented cleaning solution and instructed her to vacuum and mop only. While I was in the shower, I heard drawers opening and closing. Her assigned tasks were strictly limited to vacuuming and mopping, and there was no reason for her to open my drawers. After cleaning, there was no lemon scent present on the floors, despite the strong odor of the solution I prepared. Refrigerator cleaning was incomplete, as items were not removed and visible food residue remained. During paid work hours, she spent extended periods on multiple personal phone calls and left me to handle laundry tasks myself. She also provided false personal information, stating she was 63 years old when her government-issued identification showed she was 69. After I introduced her to a building staff member to inform him she would be present, she spoke to him in Russian. The staff member later informed me that she made negative statements about me and said the name she gave me was not her real name. These inconsistencies raised serious concerns about honesty, transparency, safety, and proper vetting. When I reported these incidents to Comfort Keepers, my concerns were dismissed rather than addressed. I spoke calmly with the Owner of Comfort Keepers, who repeatedly interrupted me, emphasized agency vetting procedures, and did not allow me to fully explain even one incident. Despite my stating that there were many issues, she continued talking over me, defending the caregiver's years of service, and ultimately said she had other matters to attend to and needed to end the call. I informed her that since she did not have time to listen or address the facts, I was canceling services with both the caregiver and the agency and did not want further contact. Despite this, the owner continued contacting me multiple times afterward, including leaving a message stating she now had time to talk. I did not respond. Regardless of any vetting the agency claims to have conducted, it does not change what occurred in my home or excuse the refusal to listen to documented concerns. These events represent serious failures related to safety, privacy, professionalism, honesty, and agency oversight. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Comfort Keepers.

My family used Right at Home in 2022. It has taken me until now to write a review because I just did not want to think about how bad their service was. We are in a much better place now, and I feel compelled to warn others. Right at Home was truly awful- no communication. I'm not sure how they even had clients. We had to call them to find out who was coming for my mom. I can't recall EVER receiving a phone call informing me, I always had to call them. Schedules that should have been known and planned for became unnecessary emergencies because of their poor communication. My mom very much liked one of their caregivers - she was wonderful - so we were tied to the agency. That it the only reason we stuck with them as long as we did. The caregiver was pregnant, and we had to tell them! They claimed they were unaware. Right at Home had zero communication with us regarding her replacement until WE asked them if they had a plan. Their staff made us feel like they were only concerned about the money. I truly felt like they would just throw whoever they could on the schedule and they did not have as many caregivers as they said they did when we signed up with them. Two of their caregivers abandoned my mom. I never heard an apology. When I contacted their owner, Matt, regarding an issue, I got no follow thru other than an email thanking me for my communication and a promise to be in touch. Never heard from the guy again. They simply placed whoever they could find with my mom, taking no consideration as to how she would react to the person. Just horrible service. If you are a caregiver - don't sign up with them. They will treat you like crap and lie to you. I absolutely DO NOT recommend Right at Home. We've since used a different agency - and I can confidently say that Right at Home does not deserve to be in business. Don't trust your loved one in their care.

Then for the next 5 weeks a different nurse came out first twice a week and then once a week to change the dressing and just check up on things. All went well until the course of antibiotics was finished. The nurse was supposed to come and remove the PICC line on Wednesday (February 22nd). First there was a miscommunication between Lifecare and the doctor. The doctor's office claimed Lifecare was supposed to contact them to get the order to remove the PICC line; Lifecare claimed that the doctor was supposed to contact them. In whatever case, the doctor's office contacted Lifecare on Wednesday afternoon to authorize the removal of the PICC line. But now, Lifecare is unable to find a nurse to remove the PICC line and they have stopped communicating with me at all. I have no idea if or when I can get the PICC line removed and in the meantime I am breaking out from the tape keeping the PICC line in place.
