My…read moreorthopedic doctor Garry Shapiro diagnosed arthritis of the neck and knees and recommended that I start physical therapy as soon as possible. I began to look for a suitable place opened during the evening hours and working with my insurance plan. But most importantly, I was looking for a doctor who specializes in neck pain. I was very lucky to find Physical Therapist Jennifer Laube on Yelp, where she was given high reviews by former patients. Doctor Jennifer Laube PT works in Emery Physical Therapy, and she is the most professional, knowledgeable and upbeat person. First, she gave me a complete evaluation, accessing how well I can move my neck and knees, and asked about symptoms such as pain, numbness and stiffness. She identified weakness in my hips, glutes, hamstrings and shoulders and began to teach me how to do exercises that will help me stretch, strengthen and straighten up my joints and muscles. To relieve pain and stiffness, Dr. Laube gives me a deep tissue massage and ultrasound. She gave me a lot of professional advices on how to keep correct posture, sit at the computer, how to walk and how to sleep. She explained to me what my postures were poor and explained their adverse effects on my health. I continue coming for a treatment, but I am happy to admit that my joint health has improved, less pain and stiffness in my neck and knees. I have plans to get rid of pain forever.

Jen is one of the finest and most dedicated therapists around. As many tears that I shed and pain that I endured, both at home and in physical therapy, I am at the level I am today because of Jen. Four years after spinal fusions I'm still doing exercises because of the necessity Jen instilled in me. That's how great she is. There are a lot of excellent therapists out there; some working at IBJI. BUT--- it will be a very long time before anyone will come close to walking in Jennifer Laube's shoes.

I want to start by giving the internal administration much credit for their patience,…read moreprofessionalism and understanding during my time here. I am a current resident who's been at Bella Terra Wheeling for a little more than thirteen months. I have seen Mike, Kandi, Nikki, Yesenia, Jocelyn, Fran, and Michelle work very hard to keep this facility running. Many of the nurses and CNAs provide good support to care for the patients at this nursing/rehabilitation home. I have seen the staff as a team handle multiple situations to provide care and comfort for the patients. I also want to say that I am impressed with the Activity and Receptionist team members as they provide more layers of assistance and cohesiveness to help form a strong employee base. One of the benefits of living and recuperating at this facility is that the meals are decent. I lived at another home before transferring here and the food is actually much better. I get meals with chicken as the main course far more than I used to at the previous rehab center. And I get fresh salads more often as well. Bella Terra Wheeling also has staff members in place to help with setting up doctor appointments and transportation. For an independent person like myself, I don't utilize all of the services available but I am very glad that many residents do have access to these benefits. I want to close out my review with a huge thank you to each and every staff member for being patient and understanding with me and many of the residents as caring for us can be quite challenging at times. Thank you very much!

I was so hesitant on leaving her at Bella Terra as I did not know anything about her condition which was Dementia and Bella Terra. I had no clue how to take care of my mom as she was uncontrollable and hard to reason with. I am also a really hard person to deal with as I fight for every living breath for my family and try to prolong their life as much as I can. I want to say Thank you to Angelina, my lovely angel nurse Daisy, nurse Raj and many more nurses and CNAs that took care of my mom. Daisy you of all people I owe a huge apology to by not cooperating with you especially. You guys saw my mom slipping away to cancer and dementia and I tried to fight for her life and I was wrong. Hospice gave her freedom and relief from her pain and I tried to hold on and gave grief to you and Angelina. You guys were angels to put up with me. God bless you both as you truly are beautiful people inside and out. Daisy I thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking such good care onf my mom. Bella Terra not only cares for their patients , their nurses go above and beyond for caring for people with dementia and help bring their life to reality. Every visit I saw big involvement with patients from care, food service, entertaintment, physical therapy. These patients would not have a life at home the way they get cared for at Bella Terra. These are my parting words. The care you will receive will be exceptional and the nurses they have here deserve pay of a celebrity with the care they provide for patients with severe mental and physical disabilities. They are truly angels and I was glad to meet every one of you especially Daisy and have you care for my mother. I love you all from the bottom of my heart and will consider you all part of my family.

This review is about what happened to my Grandma on the last day of her life here. You decide…read morewhether it's the facility or the system and whether you'd want an experience like this for you and your loved ones. Caveat: I live out of town. I came to see her for two days in week 3 of her visit and then for another two days in week 4. This incident happened on the last day of my visit. Caveat: Up to this point, everyone was very nice and professional. The one star reflects only my experience on the last day. My 94-year-old Grandma was transferred here to heal a broken hip. The doctor said Grandma's heart, vitals and everything looks good, the hip is healing, and they can start PT soon. By the end of week 2, Grandma was completely bedridden, barely eating, and growing weaker and weaker. When I came to visit in week 3, Grandma was a shell of a person. Her mind was still there and she could reminisce about the old country. But she was in constant pain and talked about wanting to die. She did not want to rehab, screamed through the PT sessions, talked about how she wanted to die in peace. The PoA wanted rehab. By week 4, the first day I visited for a few hours, Grandma was barely speaking and has had almost no food for many days. She could barely reminisce, all she talked about was wanting to die. Doctors said her hip was healing and her vitals looked good. The second day I came to visit on week 4, a half hour into our visit, she started to have horrible chest pains. She started screaming. I found the nurse and asked for a doctor. I was told a doctor is "on his way", and I shouldn't worry, they are about to give her pain meds (oxy). Grandma was screaming, asking to go to the hospital. I ran around, bugging and bugging staff about this supposed doctor and if he isn't running over, then I'm calling 911. They said don't worry about it, she's having an anxiety attack, they're asking PoA for permission to give her anti-anxiety meds. Grandma was screaming and screaming. I told the staff I'm calling 911. They said not to call and give time for the meds to work. I called the PoA and left a pleading voicemail, no answer. Almost an hour goes by, no reply. We can't do anything without the PoA was the answer from staff. Wait to call the hospital, they said. Eventually, the POA got in touch with the staff and told them not to take Grandma to the hospital. The doctor's coming, the staff told me. Grandma was screaming and screaming. I told the staff that I'm calling 911. They said no, they won't release her since the PoA explicitly said no. They checked her "vitals" and while the blood pressure was a little low, she's fine. A doctor was on his way. The PoA was not a medical professional and did not think it was an emergency. I asked staff for some kind of help, but I could tell the PoA told them to ignore me. They avoided eye contact and walked the other way when they saw me. Grandma screamed and screamed and screamed. I asked again if I can call 911, staff said they can't overrule the POA. Grandma was screaming and screaming. She says she wants to die, the pain was too much, she said she needed to go to the hospital. I ran out and relayed her message to the staff (Grandma barely speaks English). One said, "the patient says she wants to go?" "Yes, yes" I say. Another one leaned over and whispered. "We can't overrule the POA, we're doing everything we can" was the response. I begged the staff for more pain relief, for the doctor. "He's on his way". I pressed for more information; they finally revealed he's not in the facility. But should be arriving shortly. When? He's not texting back. Could I please call 911? I desperately made another call to the PoA. No, you can't call. They administered another dose of oxy for her "extreme pain". Grandma was screaming and screaming. Said feels like she's being dissected. I begged for help from anyone who steps into the room, they shrugged. Then someone closed the door, so they couldn't hear her as much. I helplessly cried next to her, stroked her arm, endless adjusted pillows, telling her how much I loved her, and listened to her agonizing cries for almost FOUR!!! hours. HELPLESS!!! Finally and thankfully, she passes out in a way you can tell she's not waking up. A few minutes later, the doctor (nurse practitioner) came in, apologized for being so late, and commented how Grandma was generally in good standing. He promised to do a KUB and left without touching her. I left eventually. Grandma did not have a pulse when the staff came to check on her overnight. When I called the facility the next morning and asked why staff didn't help her, they said they did everything they could. They couldn't override the PoA. So here you go, folks. If you want a facility that will follow the PoA's instructions with diligence, while ignoring the patient's pleas for help and basic human decency, you found it. P.S. Yes, I should've called 911 regardless of what the staff or the PoA told me. Call 911!!

The staff is friendly, my relative is in a private room for rehab. I was contacted about six or seven times on the first day, often having to repeat the same information, clarify my relative's gender and also the first night my relative fell. They should not have been in a situation to fall -- they are there to get therapy. This is only for short term, and I believe the rehab is nicer than long term care. I'm sorry to say our experience with Whitehall was not a good one. First, the facility is dated and…read moreis in desperate need of repairs to the walls, and it needs to be painted. I only mention this since it's the first impression you get when you go into the facility. The good: the people working there in skilled nursing, physical, and occupational therapy seem to truly care about the patients. There are two main problems: (1) the food is awful, and (2) they don't have enough staff to support the patients. We were there with an older relative who had a knee replacement. She was not able to, or supposed to get up on her own and even needed help to go into the restroom. While we were there the first day, she hit the call button and we waited so long for someone to come to help her, she almost soiled herself. I had to go out of the room and find someone who could assist. The first night she was there, again she hit the call button for restroom assistance. Again, she waited to the point where she got up herself. Of course, someone one day out of knee surgery shouldn't do that, but it was that or soil herself so she got up. She made it to the restroom before she fell, requiring a trip to the ER. The next day, we talked to one of the therapists who explained they had someone call in sick the day before, requiring the facility to move someone off of our floor to a different one. This left her the only person monitoring the patients on our floor. They couldn't keep up with the patients. The next day, we spoke with a manager who contradicted the aide saying she didn't know why we were told they were short staffed and said they weren't. That was when I realized we couldn't rely on them to take care of her and decided she should be moved back to her assisted living facility and hire skilled nursing and physical therapy. I cannot in good conscience recommend Whitehall. I see similar comments in some of the other reviews, which I should have read before placing her there. I am terribly disappointed and even though moving her and hiring the help ourselves was much more expensive, I couldn't keep her in a facility where I couldn't count on the care. Oh - I gave them three stars rather than one or two because of the quality of the therapists. If they weren't good, my rating would have been much lower. Also, I see enough pictures of the facility posted that I didn't think I needed to take any. The ones posted by reviewers are pretty spot on.

I highly recommend Whitehall and especially appreciate the office experience and support we…read morereceived as we helped navigate the kind of services needed to help our mother find skilled nursing care. After our mom fell, we knew that she would need nursing care but we also knew she did not want to live in a nursing home. Whitehall was the perfect place to have her stay as we determined what she needed. Between the physical rehab and care she received there, and the assistance we were provided to manage the insurance and in-home nursing care, we could not have had better care. Caring for parents is so difficult and sometimes it's necessary to take a pause and get the best information possible from people with experience. We are ever so grateful!
