Please make a new location near downtown! This sort of fun place is what we university students need lol It's nice to have a little bit of New York vibe in Utah though I wish the location was closer to downtown. I liked both the interior and the patio because it has a chill casual atmosphere. There is something special about Shake Shack that other hamburger places lack, I don't know what that is, yet. I love Shake Shack, so I was pretty damn excited to see that one was coming to Utah. I wish it was in SLC proper and not Sandy, but I'll take what I can get. After starving ourselves all day for our engagement pictures, my fiancé and I were pretty ravenous when we got to Shake Shack. I pretty much always get the single shack burger. He got the shackstack. Both were delicious, as always. I'm seeing a lot of comments saying the burgers are small for the price. I don't honestly see the difference between this Shake Shack location and others. I think Shake Shack is a step above fast food so don't expect fast food prices. But it's not like gourmet burger prices either. Now for dessert! I love how Shake Shack will collaborate with local businesses to make their concretes special. Here they collaborate with a pie restaurant and the week we went they had an apple pie concrete! I think the concrete sealing makes it worse for the noise. There were only three people in front of me. I ordered a hamburger and it took 14 minutes to arrive. I ordered the double cheeseburger-to me it tastes exactly like a burger from Hire's except they have a different bun and Hire's being local uses fry sauce. Fries-they taste good when warm but once they're cooled down they don't taste great. Being "Shake Shack" I ordered a shake. I had the salted caramel shake but it tasted more vanilla than sweet & savory. Burgers/fries/shakes always debatable I do like several places. Hire's, In N Out, and Shake Shack (also worth noting that you get a $10 dining credit if you order Shake Shack on your AmEx Gold Card) Seating & ambiance: compared to other burger places, it is very modern & hipster (others are more sporty, or have rock n roll, or 50s memorabilia in decor) lots of younger groups without kids here. It is clean but as expected crowded. I didn't see any baby chairs so it's probably a challenge if bringing and carrying an infant (long line and hard to find seating). The place is gorgeous! Outside it has corn hole & ping pong, Lots of places to sit and relax. The inside is always clean and you can tell employees are constantly busing tables, games to occupy family, kids, friends. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with seat covers and toilet paper. We got the frozen custard shake attack and Pie oh my both were super delicious and plenty for one person. LOVE LOVE LOVE the cheese sauce. I want to dip my whole sandwich in it! Oh man. So today was opening day and I gotta day I was very impressed with the way everything was handled. For being practically wrapped around the parking lot in the hot sun they seemed like a well oiled machine. They came out and gave us fans and tiny cups of nice refreshing lemonade. From placing my order to receiving my order it was less than 10 minutes. Considering how massively busy it was, I won't be surprised at all when they kill it in this market. The food itself was delightful! The burger was slightly overdone on the outside for my particular taste but it was still very juicy once you bit it. The fries and a nice crunch and the manager was nice enough to give me some cheese sauce that was amazing! The ice cream I had was also very good. Nice and smooth and you can tell it's fresh. Originally went to the Shake Shack (TSS) the day they opened a few months ago, but found out that they were only allowing special guests via invite only...so we FINALLY made it back there Sunday night....and it was 'collectively' pretty good. I mean 'collectively' because that was the consensus of my family (wifey, son, and son's girlfriend) regarding the food and service at this establishment. I was leaning more towards three stars myself, but in this case, majority rules. Upon arriving, there was a young lady who was handing out coupons for free shakes and hot dogs! Porque? Because they had LITERALLY RUN OUT OF FRIES! Who does that in 2019? Regardless, it was a very nice gesture, and we all took advantage of that customer service...me included as I essentially ate free as I had two free Chicago Dogs (a.k.a., "Shack-cago Dog"), along with my bottled "ShackMeister" Ale (custom brewed for TSS by Brooklyn Brewery.) Unfortunately the beer was bottled and not draft as I had hoped, but now that Utah raised its ABV% maybe we'll see Brooklyn Brewery ship kegs all the way out to Utah for a nice ice cold pint of draft ShackMeister. My Chicago dogs were, well, sloppy wet. Just too much goopy relish hiding the onions, pickle, tomato, and the sport peppers. Could have used some more celery salt too. That and as a native Chicagoan, I suggested to the manager (Corporate Shake Shack are you listening?) genuine poppy seed hot dog buns the way REAL Chicago Dog are made (King Arthur, Bunny, and Butternut still make them...Sara Lee used to)! Us Czechs want our poppy seeds! :-) My wife's rather smallish 'Shroom Burger with the breaded and fried Portobello mushroom (breaded and fried?) was OK, but the Muenster and cheddar cheese slices (inside the breaded and fried mushroom) were still cold. I came here when it first opened and it wasn't the greatest experience. The biggest challenge we had to wait a half an hour which is expected when a restaurant is just opening. I came back and I did online ordering which was a much better experience. They told me it would be ready at 5:45 they text me at 5:45 that it was ready I walked in grabbed my bag told them my name and they gave me my shake and I walked out. The shakes are the best part. I got a strawberry shake. I like the smoke shack but I'm going to get it without the tomatoes next time. I've tried it twice and I end up scraping them off each time. Cheese fries are my favorite. The woman at the cash register was either coming to the end of a very long shift and just unfriendly, either way it was an unfortunate way to start my first experience with Shake Shack. The dining area is spacious, clean, and LOUD. The furniture is terrible! Awkward slants on the chairs and the tables slide all over the place. They do have a shelf full of games which was a great way to pass the time as we waited 20 minutes for our food. I ordered a burger well done and it came out pink. They did rush a replacement but by the time it was done my family had finished their meal. They also put the smallest amount of lettuce possible on your burgers so if you like greens in your burger make sure you ask for extra. The breading on the chicken bites is very heavy but it is breast meat. They use compostable products (except for the water cups) and condiment cups. The potato bun was fluffy and warm. Perfectly crispy crinkle cut fries, served hot, and the cheese sauce? This place was loud and hard to hear when they announce your order. I got a double bacon cheeseburger with bacon cheese fries. The mango drink was thick and a little tart for me. I would go with the 50/50 with green tea which is better. The cheese on the fries wasn't too hot but it tasted good and a little different from the normal hot cheese that you would get for nachos. I don't know why it took me so long to try Shake Shack but it was well worth the wait! The prices were a little pricey but the food was delicious. I got the Shake Burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time! Definitely one of the best "fast food" burgers! I surprisingly liked their crinkle fries! My husband got the chicken bites and they were also very delicious! They are up there with Chick Fil A nuggets! We also tried the Watermelon Pina Punch and it was a little bitter but very good! It was nice and refreshing. We went on a Sunday, so it wasn't busy but I could only imagine on a Saturday. The food was very good and we will definitely be back! Its simple, there is nothing wrong with visiting and having a good meal. The establishment is nice, great decor and its clean. What you need to realize is that this establishment isn't catering to Utah, they are consistent from one locale to another. So for local residents you need to know it is more expensive. So maybe it's been hyped, and maybe it was too crowded, but I love myself a Shake Shack burger. When I have a craving for a Shake Shack burger, nothing else will do. It's different from a gourmet burger- if I wanted that I'd go to a different restaurant. It's MUCH better than other fast food burgers, in my opinion. I refuse to draw a comparison to In-n-out since I'm from CA and when I have a specific craving for In-n-our, also, anything else will do. BUT, if they have it, the s'mores shake is an epiphany. The shake itself is smooth, rich, chocolatey, creamy. The bits of graham cracker manage to add flavor and texture without getting to the mushy mouthfeel grossness. The marshmallow topping... I had this terrible dilemma with this shake. I wanted to drink it as fast as possible, because it was SO GOOD and my taste buds just kept begging for more more MORE.... and yet.... I knew that the faster I drank, that this cup of heaven would empty out and I would be cursing myself for my lack of self-control. Let's just say, I lost this one. I took a large group of high school students to Shake Shack after a Fieldtrip. All of the employees went out of their way to make this a wonderful experience for my students. The food was delicious. Shout out to Jaime for going above and beyond to make our experience a positive one. The indoor/outdoor games at Shake Shack made the experience more memorable because instead of teenagers buried into their phones, they were playing games together. I ordered the SmokeShack, French fries, and an iced tea. I ordered them separately because Shake Shack doesn't do combos. The best part was the beef, which was deep and flavorful. But a great American burger should be more than the sum of its parts. It should be a harmonious blend of burger, bun, and toppings. On this count, I feel Shake Shack disappoints. For one, as good as the patties are, they are so small that you must order a double to get any sort of satisfaction. I should have read down to the bottom of the menu before I ordered, because you apparently have to "let us know if you want lettuce, tomato, pickle or onion", which to me are essential on any American-style burger. Needless to say, I didn't ask for these toppings, so I didn't get them. My bad. I guess. The cheese was fine. The bacon is billed as coming from Niman Ranch, but on my particular burger, it was scant, and insipid. An embarrassment, really. I do prefer softer buns with my burger, but this one had no substance at all. It was completely soggy by the time I finished. The cherry peppers added a unique heat, but I would have preferred my traditional toppings. If there is a next time, which I doubt, I'll make sure to ask for them. Shake Sauce? I didn't taste any sauce, so I guess I can't make a judgement. The crinkle-cut fries were indistinguishable from Ore-Ida, but I like Ore-Ida, so I guess the taste and texture was good. But there was no discernible seasoning. And no fry sauce. I feel that Utah has some of the best hamburger joints in the country. Shake Shack is not one of them. After receiving a kind message from the manager, who I'm sure is a wonderful guy, committed to his job, and just trying to make a living, I wanted to update my review. But, it appears that you can now only 'edit' your original review so that is what I'm doing by adding this addendum. I admit to being harsher with chain restaurants, because in my mind, it's safer. I don't feel like my opinion is going to destroy someone's dream or financial future. There are independent, locally run places I have tried that are abysmal, but I just keep my mouth shut, generally. But Shake Shack is a successful, popular, and ever growing behemoth, so my opinion doesn't really matter. I just like reading about, and occasionally writing about my passion, which is food and cooking. There are lines at Shake Shack for a reason, and anything MC Free says won't change that. Sure, my opinion is that Crown Burger, Olympus Burger, JCW, and others are much better. But, I'm nobody. Shake Shack, keep doing what you are doing. Why change? It's working. If you're coming here to get a deal, you're going to be disappointed. This is not a discount fast food chain. If you're ordering a burger, fries, and a shake, you can expect to pay around $15. If you're coming here hoping for a short line, you might get lucky. You might also wait 45 minutes. Listen, if you're willing to wait longer than that for Cheesecake Factory, don't get picky. When they first opened, it was a 45 minute wait at just about any time of day. If you can't or don't want to wait in line, order ahead. Four stars because the space can be a bit too busy, particularly at lunch and on the weekends. There are a lot of families with kids running around. The location is *literally* called the School Yard though so, shrug. The food is great. The burgers are incredibly fresh tasting, the mixture of meats they use and the way they cook the burgers make them juicy with some crispiness around the edges. If I'm coming here on any given day of the week for lunch, I get the burger as a lettuce wrap and haven't ever encountered issues with the request. The Shack sauce is not too far off from our beloved fry sauce, so that should make some of you happy. The shakes are delicious, sometimes interesting seasonal flavors, and a great add to the meal if you're feeling decadent. As for the comparisons to In N Out, they are totally different burgers. I love a good double-double every now and then, but it's hard to compare the two when the style and flavor of the burgers are so very different. If we're going to take time to compare something, the fries are better here, IMO. I like the crinkle cut - more squishy interior without losing texture or crisp on the exterior. Skip the cheese on the fries - it might sound amazing but it's nothing special. I wanted to finally see what was up with shake shack but decided to go later on in the day so it wasn't as busy! I went inside and was immediately super impressed by how nice the cashier was. He was helpful and super kind, despite the fact that I was a little flustered because I had never ordered here before. I ordered and then the food came pretty quick after! I noticed they were pretty busy with lots of online orders. I ordered the shack burger. The burger was a little less cooked than I would've preferred...it was a little too pink for my liking but I still ate all of it. There was some kind of sauce on the burger that tasted absolutely amazing. This sauce is truthfully better than places like in n out and smash burger in my opinion! The fries were crispy and super yummy as well! I forgot to ask for ranch (imagine that) but I am not too sure they serve ranch. Overall, I am super satisfied with my visit! Now I know why, we were charged for a 3rd burger that we said we did not want. This place is pricey, it sucks that they don't have combo options. So what was ordered was the smoke shack , the shake shack, fries, and chicken bites and got an unwanted shroom burger. The two burgers were singles, did not expect it to be that small but even looking around the doubles are small and not worth the price either. The burgers are just meh to me, plain not enough sauce. Basic. Also, I know some people like their patties pink and that's fine but let me know if that's how the patties are made so I can order mine well done because my whole patty was pink and my partners was not. That was the most disappointing thing. The shroom burger? The cheese is not a good addition but that's just me. The fries are good, fresh and crunchy, the chicken bites? Didn't quite get the hype of shake shack. I thought they had an alright burger, decent fries and just an ok shake. I had the smoke shack and while it was good, it wasn't amazing. The fries were quite unremarkable, however the bacon cheddar fries are wondrous, and you should get them. However if you're looking for something that is quite amazing, it's their little chick'n bites! They had a great flavor in their batter and the chicken was very tender and delicious!
