I am writing this review not as a customer, but as someone who was helped when there was nothing in it for them. I called with a specific issue on my F-150 Ecoboost, and the gentleman I spoke to was incredibly transparent, letting me know right away that my turbo-charged truck was a little outside of their normal scope. Even so, he stayed on the phone with me. He listened to my problem and talked me through my options, sharing genuine advice on what he would do. *** Extremely disappointed *** My husband brought his truck here this week for help removing his old exhaust without causing damage to the sensors. When asked if they could do this they said yes, and they told him it'll be under $150. A few hours go by and we hadn't heard anything. So we decided to drop in and check out the progress. Turns out they broke the two sensors my husband was worried about. One they were able to fix, but not the other. Now we're stuck trying to find the part, and getting quotes of $300+ just for the part. They should've been honest from the beginning if they didn't feel they could do this without causing damage. That way we could've made an informed decision if we still wanted them to try or if we just wanted to do it ourselves. They ended up charging $175 and never discounted their work or offered to help reimburse for the damage they caused. I normally support small businesses, but not if this is how they do business. Shaffer's Muffler has always come to my rescue. I use my pickup for business purposes and can't afford for it not to be running nor not running right for an extended period of time. Several months ago I had a broken brake line and more recently (on May 17, 2021) I had a failing front wheel bearing. We came here today to get a quote on a fix for my vehicle. The quote was reasonable and fair we didn't feel the need to shop around. We happened to come at a slow time so they got us in right away and it took maybe an hour. So it might not be the case for everyone during peak hours, but it was a perk for us today. I was recommending them to friends as we waited. We moved here from out of state and it's so hard to find honest hard workers when you don't know your way around yet. We lucked out. Moved to Corpus Christi 6 years ago. Things I can say about using them. First they won't try to rip you off, really honest. I tried and Exxon who won awards, won't go back there again. If they can't do it they hook you up with someone who can and that they trust. Reasonable pricing, again honest. As for they guy who said their slow. I was raised around cars and doing car repair. It's rarely a quick process. In fact most places make you drop off and your lucky if it's back that day, especially the install of a new muffler. I get my state inspection done here each year. I pull in he jumps on it. The only time I waited was my first time because I forgot my insurance and had to have it faxed over. I like these guys and again they've always been honest to deal with. read more

I think molasses in the winter moves faster then these guys!! Had a muffler replaced and asked for a state inspection. Took too long to replace muffler, then took car out of shop, I waited till he finally came inside(about 10 minutes later), asked if he had car inspected? Said he needed to see copy of insurance. Never take your vehicle here!!!!!! Had work done picked up vehicle and fluid was gushing from underneath! Turned around and immediately took it back and they said it wasn't their fault even though the leak is in a part they had to remove to do original repair!!! They were incredibly rude. We were visiting Corpus Christi from Austin and had car trouble. We originally took the car to Firestone, who said the catalytic converter was bad but they couldn't fix it. So, we had the car towed to Shaffer's Muffler and Automotive. Shaffer's said that it was not the catalytic converter and gave us a couple of ideas of what it COULD BE. We were running out of vacation time and needed to get back to Austin. They had the car ALL DAY on a Friday and didn't let us know this until late in the afternoon. FEW auto repair places were opened on Saturday, and we were scheduled to leave on Sunday, needing to get back to work. So, we rented a Uhaul and auto transport, and towed the car back to Austin. This was not easy: after many setbacks, we finally got the car back to Austin...it was a 12 hour trip. Seriously. We towed it to our mechanic, who told us the problem was a MELTED CATALYTIC CONVERTER. REALLY!!??!!!! So, Shaffer's could have fixed this in Corpus, and we could have just driven the car home. Instead, we had to rent a car to transport our small child and dog and rent a Uhaul for the broken car, setting us back an extra $500 for something that THEY COULD HAVE FIXED. Don't waste your time with this place. read more

Worst mechanic shop in Corpus Christi. I had them install a Trailer wiring harness 7 pin basic plug into the system they charged 135.00 for a plug that didn't work. Excuse was We plug it in to wiring. U Haul fixed it in 10 minutes a blown fuse and a small ground wire.. U haul charge free for repair Shaffer's mistakes. Had a hood opening cable with no handle. Asked for them to put something together to make it work. They reattached my coat hanger I was using. $65.00. When I confronted them with the hokey repairs and installation they said well we plugged it in. I have had other things repaired there and there quality of repair has gone down. Prior to this a work truck they worked on in the door panel. I got it back and realize the door panel wasn't reattached properly. As if they don't know what there doing. read more

Shaffer's Muffler & Automotive South Bay Muffler & Automotive Fixed first vehicles A/C for a lot of money $1530.74, at least for me it is. Wanted a lot of money to fix second as they said it was like the first vehicle and needed to replace basically the whole system for $1200.00 before taxes and whatever else they can charge. REALLY.!!! Second vehicle for A/C repair, second shop and the only thing wrong was expansion valve, no where near a system replacement for $1200. So how bad did they screw me on the first job? Corpus Christi Texas I am a disabled Veteran living on a fixed income and went without the A/C in the truck for sometime and in South Texas that is not a good thing. Finally had saved up a little money and with my Doctors advice went to have the A/C fixed. I picked a shop that I have been familiar with since 1977 or 1978 When a wrecker service I worked for did the towing for this shop. Towed vehicles into their shop on and off for more than 15 years. I even carried their business cards and always recommended them when someone asked if I new a reputable shop. I took my 2004 Dodge Dakota SLT 4 door with the V8 engine to them to get the A/C repaired. Talked with the people I know and explained the whole thing. Very little money, fixed income etc. They said they would take good care of me. When the estimate was done it was going to be around $1600.00. I did get 10% taken of as a Disabled Veteran that was a good thing. So I told them to go ahead and fix it. I was a little leery of the diagnoses and the price but the system had been down for some time and I know a little about A/C repair as I have done some in the past. But hey I know these guys they are friends I am going to trust that they know what they are doing and they are being fair with me. They fixed the A/C and all I had to do was bring it back once so they could do something to an air door that was not working right. They did it and I told them it would be a little bit but I would bring the Chevy Aveo in as it's A/C was out as well. Things were good or so I thought. Read on! When I took the Aveo in I told them that it had been working as my son had ought one of those cans of Freon and adapters to fill the system at Wal-Mart and the A/C would work for a while before it would quit again, so I figured it had a little leak. They said they would look at it and let me know. I told them I cannot afford another $1600 dollar JOB as I really did not have much savings let at all after paying them to fix the Dodge. When they called to let me know how much it was going to be the first thing that I was asked is if I was sitting down? That right there told me that I was not going to be able to get the cars A/C fixed. Good thing I was actually laying down as he told me that it was the same thing basically the whole system needed to be replaced and it was going to be $1200 dollars. I told him that there was NO way that I could do that kind of price. He told me I could come and pick up the car no charge for the estimate as I was a good customer REALLY I thought!!! don't worry it gets better read on I took the Aveo to a different mechanic that I know and asked him to look at it and tell me what was wrong and how much to fix it. I told him what Shaffer's had said and how much they wanted to do the job and he said he would check it out and get back with me. He called me the next day and told me that the only thing bad was the expansion valve. That's it nothing else whatsoever. And that he had already fixed it so I asked him to repair the rear door handle which I already had the replacement in the car. He agreed to and did so. With parts and all total was less than $200.00 Total before taxes!!! My concern is that if Shaffer's wanted to replace my system for $1200 and the only thing that needed fixed was the expansion valve. HOW BAD DID THEY SCREW ME ON THE $1600 JOB THEY DID ON THE DAKOTA??? The problem is that I will never know because it has already been done and there is no way to find out. I am glad that they only screwed me on the one vehicle and were not allowed to take advantage of me on the second. If they treat someone they have known for so long and someone who over the years has sent them a lot of business how do they treat others? Find an update to the Dakota repair and additional info on the Aveo at Rippoffreport.com Would have made it here on Yelp but was unable to due to size limitation and unable to make a new report. Excellent fast courteous service. They fixed an exhaust leak on my 2003 mustang in just a couple hours on the same day i brought the car to them. It only cost $157.00 compared to another estimate i got that was $2950 elsewhere. They also gave me ride from my home to pick up my car when it was done. read more
