I stumbled upon this little sports bar and decided to stick around to catch a football game. It does get pretty packed, but they also have outdoor seating with TVs, which is a nice touch if you want to watch from outside. The atmosphere is super chill and I really liked the overall vibe. Came here to watch the Michigan vs Alabama game. We didn't get a table but they told us we could stand. We find a space in the back where we're not in the way and order some nachos, drinks, and shots at the bar. It's super crowded with more ppl standing around. The waitress with dark hair and glasses got mad at us and told us we were in the way and that she wasn't able to work w us standing around and if we weren't going to order drinks we had to leave. We told her we did order drinks and food but she didn't want to hear it. Lots of attitude and was super rude!! There were so many people standing around in more problematic areas and we were in the back where we were out of the way. Such bad service from this lady especially considering we ordered a lot of food and drinks already. We told her this but she didn't want to hear it. I understand she was stressed but there was no need for her comments and weird that she singled us out and that she didn't yell at anyone else. Such a shame...Also the diet coke is not good, it was extremely watered down, so terrible. The only redeeming quality is that the nachos were big and yum and only $15. Was with a few friends looking for a spot to get something to eat and drink. Found this spot. It was very welcoming when we walked in. Bartenders were dressed as Llamas for Halloween.There were some patrons who were Google employees. They were definitely memorable. They were very accomodating; they were helping us to get more stools to sit at the bar. Steve is one of the regulars. He could also be a welcoming host. But he's a patron. The bar is also spacious! Great place to watch sports. I believe I counted twenty televisions. I had the delicious and well seasoned shrimp tacos. Two in our party ordered the veggie burger. Both were pleased. The French fries were crispy and yum. The side salad looked good! The owner came through and checked on patrons, always a plus in my book. I believe his name was Keith. Shout out to him! I do of course hate dating myself, but I remember this location back when it was the glorious old dive bar Flight 151. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high, but this just felt like a dirty, dingy bar in all the wrong ways--uncleared tables, bad drafts from unclean taps, a burger that didn't taste great going down and felt iffy afterwards... and an uncomfortable, fratty bro vibe to boot. I'm a big a fan of sports bars and sometimes feel like we could actually use a few more legit sports bar options in the city, but this really didn't feel like my kind of sports bar spot. read more

Appreciate the names of the drinks as they're all related to the pandemic. I got the super spreader and my boyfriend got the new normal. Would've been nice if the drinks were new creations but they're pretty much renaming traditional drinks (e.g. the new normal is pretty much just a mojito, even the waitress called it that when asking if we wanted a refill). It was a potato bun that was super soft, there was a beef patty that had mac n cheese on the bottom and another layer of mac n cheese on top, loved that it was oozing out of the burger too. Came here with a group of friends on a Sunday afternoon to hang out, grab a few drinks and lunch. The place is air conditioned, so I was already a happy camper upon entering. The drink menu is very creative, as it was COVID themed. I ordered the N95 ($14), consisting of Ketel One Botanical, gin & fresh lemonade. Definitely more alcohol as it was super strong. I also ordered a Quesadilla ($14), consisting of flour tortilla, black beans, cilantro, onions, peppers, mixed cheeses, pico de gallo, sour cream. Tasted great and filling. Service is not too bad. Wished they gave us more than just one bottle of water as we were able to empty the entire bottle amongst the 8 of us after pouring everyone a cup. FYI: There is a 3% credit card fee. read more

Stopped in today after a play and was surprised at how much of a poor experience this was after reading some rave reviews. We arrived at 1pm and did not have a reservation but told we could sit at a 2 person table that didn't have a party coming in until 4pm. Both the waitress and the server either didn't want to work today or they were bothered that their social time in the back corner of the bar was being interrupted. My friend never received the cream she asked for with her coffee so we flagged a kitchen worker who brought milk. I only recieved half of my food order. We were given plastic cups for our water and one was broken; the water spilled and the waitress watched as my friend tried to drink it quickly then she never brought additional napkins after we used both to clean up the spilled water. Both the waitress and the server were cold bordering rude each time they were at our table. To be fair the waitress has a lower back tattoo so I'm assuming good choices aren't her forte but if you don't want this job then perhaps find another that is not in the service industry. I'm only giving two stars because the food that did come out was delivered very quickly and the manager whom we had to flag down to ask for our bill apologized when she gave the news the remainder of my food wasn't even entered. read more

It was a rainy day and we needed a spot to duck in for an hour. Found Shaffer's. It wasn't too crowded at around 2pm on a Saturday with some groups by the bar and juke box. They had a whole section on the menu for coffee & tea, so I ordered a latte, but was told their machine was broken. So I got plain coffee. It took a long time to arrive (at least 15 mins) and when it did, it was lukewarm and came with no cream or sugar. I asked for milk on the side. When we got the bill we had a random "food" charge - turns out it was $3 for the milk I asked for - almost as much as the coffee itself. Had I known, I wouldn't have asked! The food and service is excellent and suggest all should try. The Shaffer burger is to die for! Perfect mix of spicy and sweet. The pretzel is always a classic favorite. Fries are my favorite; crispy and flavorful! Never soggy and that is important. Drinks are worth the price! NOT WATERED Downed! && that's a plus. Plus the music ... fucking phenomenal!!!!!!! Came here for college football game watch. Seems like a few different alumni associations coordinate with Shaffers to host game watches here. They've got around two dozen TVs so every spot inside or outside has a view of a TV. Really fun atmosphere to be with other fans. They were also agreeable to putting other games on if all the patrons in the area agreed to it. Beer selection mostly focused on macros but there was a good variety so anyone could find a style they like. Food was good too. The fries were great. They were on the slightly thicker side but were still very crispy. I shared the Mac n cheese burger with my wife. It's monstrous, messy, and quickly become a fork and knife burger. Definitely needed a nap after finishing it. The waitstaff did a good job attending to us despite how busy they were. Never had to wait a long time for anything we ordered. read more

Shaffer's has really transformed from its former name/look (flight 151). They've made impressive renovations and revamped their menu to include signature cocktails. As a pitt alum I come here for game watches and this past Saturday I felt the staff did a great job trying to handle all of the fans sitting inside and out on the street and kept the drinks coming. Im happy they added the panther bomb to their menu which I've have not enjoyed since my days at Pitt but glad as a game watch bar they accommodate Pitt fans. read more

Serendipitous experience. My first time here I was looking for seating on a crowded night of the backyard brawl. As I walked in I immediately saw two of my old fraternity brothers and drinks ensued. Beer flowed like wine as the panthers took the mountaineers to the proverbial "pound town." my second experience took place on a DNO (Dudes night out) with the Dangerous Nights Crew. Despite our women being at places that would normally garner worry, such as downtown baltimore, burlesque clubs, or bachelorette parties, our worries were soon put to rest by hospitable management and copious amounts of miller light. I write this on the edge of my seat as our Pitt Panthers are fighting for their season against the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets. I do this not because of my dissatisfaction with Pitts offense, but rather because other Pitt fans deserve to know of the Panther oasis that is Shaffers. 10/10 recommend. read more

Went to Schaffer's on 02/23/23 with some old coworkers. We were seated, got our drink order taken and an order for onion rings, another waitress came to ask if the previous waitress just took our order we said yes then continued to chat. Waitress #1 came back to ask are we only ordering drinks or are getting food too. I said yes we're getting food too (hence we did order onion rings to start with our drinks.) She proceeds to say they are having a party of 90 people come in so they would have to move my group which was 6 people at a table for 6, to a table that's a high top only for 2 people. Why seat us, why take our order then come back later to say you have to move our party because you want to accommodate a bigger party that wouldn't even fit at the table even if you took the other few tables of 6? Half of that party would have to stand up anyways so it was just ridiculous. We ended up canceling everything we order and went to another place that valued our patronage and respected that they seated us and took or order, not to then try to force us to move to somewhere less comfortable for our party size. I will never go back to a place like this that treats customers that way because they have a smaller party. Would give them 0 stars but I can't. read more

I gave this bar a chance several times, but they have an arrogant feature that makes it a no-go. I'm a nearsighted older dude that needs a menu for a simple beer list. All they do is point to a code for your smartphone. They have no hard copy. Clearly they have no interest in older customers that are not technologically centered. All they can do is verbally give a list of the beers on tap. Of course the different bartenders gave me body language telling me I was a loser for not whipping out my cell phone. Not only am I worthless to them, but can't even be treated in a friendly manner. Not only will I not go back, but if I could tell people in my circle to avoid them, I certainly will. read more
