Someone's mom would bring over cupcakes, rice crispy treats, or brownies for everyone to share. Cupcakes were (and still are) my favorite indulgent treat. So when it came time for husband's birthday recently, I wanted to surprise him and his small office with some cupcakes. I just didn't have the time to bake 3 dozen cupcakes and hand deliver them. That's where Fairy Cakes Bakery came to the rescue. Fairy Cakes Bakery specializes in gourmet cupcake deliveries. Brilliant! I e-mailed Kerena at FTB on a Sunday and she responded immediately. I needed the cupcakes on Tuesday, which was no problem. Kerena was very helpful via e-mail and they delivered the cupcakes when promised with very cute packaging and a hand-written note. I ordered red velvet, black and white, and raspberry vanilla, which were all a huge hit with my husband and his co-workers. My husband brought one of each home and I thought they were pretty good. The cake part was a tad dry, which I find to be such a common problem with most cupcakes, but the icing was delicious. And at $2.50 a cupcake, I thought they were a deal. Two downsides: There is a $15 delivery charge BUT they do hand deliver them anywhere in Orange County and the Inland Empire. It's the cost of convenience, I say. Also, when you order a dozen cupcakes, they must be of the same flavor. That wasn't a big deal for me, but it might be for others who might want more variety. I think Fairy Cakes Bakery is a great way to go if you want to surprise someone with a treat and/or not deal with going to Sprinkles or Susie Cakes (and spending at least 50-75 cents more per cupcake). When first communicating with the vendor, she sent me a photo of a similar cake she did and said "I don't have a photo of it finished with candles"- clearly leading me to believe candles would finish the cake, right? Well, on my wedding day, there were no candles. It was a completely missed opportunity for us that we had planned with our photographer and videographer. I reached out to samsamm the next morning and she said she does not provide candles because they are not part of cake decor. It would have been such a SIMPLE thing for samsamm to tell us ahead of time; instead, it was never communicated and it was a huge miss. Watch out for communication issues.
