I was nervous to wax again after a bad experience last year. I did some research and settled on Gil at SF Manscaping. Just after making my appointment Gil provided me with a pre-wax document. He told me the best way to prep for my appointment and asked me questions about my skin routine and general health. I thought this was a nice touch and it made me feel good about his level of concern and professionalism for a new client. I felt like I was in good hands. The location in the Financial District is a BIG DRAW form me. I can walk from BART or my office. I can pop in on my way home, at lunch or the middle of that day. They say location, location, location - Gil has the perfect location. From the moment I arrived, Gil was warm and welcoming. He talked me through the entire procedure and took time to tell me the type of wax he uses on different parts of the body and how he preps the skin for waxing. I had a business meeting scheduled shortly after my waxing and he kept an eye on the time and provided me with updates so I never had to worry about how much time I had left or if I would make it in time. After every wax strip Gil asked if I was ok. Gil was so professional and so clearly talented at what he does, the procedure went great! Gil gave me after-wax instructions and told me what to expect. After moving back to SF recently I was looking for a new waxer (because I will be semi-naked in public for a show in two days, not that you really care why). I've been to places in NYC and Portland, and Gil was by far the best esthetician I've been to for waxing services. It was the least painful waxing experience I've ever had. I barely felt anything, so I was a little skeptical if he was actually doing a thorough waxing; but sure enough my back, neck, and shoulders were super smooth, and there was almost no redness whatsoever, another first. He took the time to explain the difference between hard and soft wax and why he used one or the other on a particular area. He also talked to me about after-care exfoliation, which no one had ever done before. For the best possible service his prices were lower than the other places I considered, which made the appointment that much more worthwhile for the slight journey I had to take to his studio. The space is on the second floor of a building solely dedicated to hair, cosmetologists, and estheticians. It's a really nice area of the building, and Gil's studio was very clean and organized (which is something that becomes important after you've seen things like overflowing trash cans of waxing strips with chunks of someone else's hair covering them or foreign objects floating in the wax pot at other places I've been to). It's kind of awkward being exposed in front of a stranger who is going to be removing hair from your body, but the conversation during the procedure flowed easily and Gil is a really nice guy. I will definitely go back to him next time I will be unclothed in public, or if I ever get a date. read more

My first visit to SF Manscaping was perfect. Gil was able to squeeze me in on short notice and in the middle of moving to a new location. He was very polite, professional and easy to talk to which is a bonus when your half naked in front of a complete stranger. This Was the first time I chose to have any manscaping done. I have always taken care of it myself with a razor. The facility is very professional and Gil was also professional. A couple of Fridays ago, I had an appointment to swing in and see Gil to get my legs and butt waxed. The lead up to the appointment consisted of me contacting him via email, and him responding with a number of questions relating to my experiences with waxing thus-far. The depth of his responses and the speed with which he responded got me interested straight-away! The day of the session, I meandered over to his place, a nice little collection of smaller offices for various grooming needs. After a brief tour, I made my way to Gil's office in the area, and started the session. We had a conversation regarding what he intended to do, work-wise, asked me if I had any questions, and off we went. Overall, it took about two hours, which was shorter than I and my friend expected, and he was unnecessarily apologetic for how long it took. I was happy to just chill, chat and relax for a couple of hours, frankly! It was a nice break in the day. The hair is only now starting to return after about two weeks, and it's very fine, as expected, indicating really, really minimal breakage at all! First time going for waxing and it was an amazing experience. First off, the vibe for where the salon is was something I have not seen here in the Bay Area. There are different private shops/salons set up ranging from hair stylist, estheticians, massage therapist to of course Gil's wonderful manscaping! Once I entered his room, he was very friendly and greeted me with such enthusiasm that I felt right at home. A great experience. Just finished my first session with Gil and everything from the initial contact to the post-trim check-in was outstanding. This was my first first to have someone trim and clean things up for me and all I can say is that I have zero regrets and wish I had done so sooner.
