When I mentioned that I was in physical therapy at the place across the hall from their office, he told me the name of the area giving me problems and told me to follow up with them for some stretches and exercises I could do to help. Um no Shirley. I have something called a J-O-B during the weekday that I am not going to leave in the middle of the day to get a facial for. After telling me that the 3 weekends ahead were booked, she finally relented and booked me for a Saturday (GASP!) appointment FOUR weeks from that date. Should have guessed what would happen....... On the day of my appointment, I circled around the block 6x to find parking as the place is located in an old dowdy suite along busy El Camino around the corner from a Shell gas station. Yes. Fancy. Finally found parking 3 blocks away. As I trudged into the old nasty looking closet that they call a door, I announce to the receptionist, "Hi, I have an appointment today at 3pm." Receptionist : "Um. You do?" "Yes- I booked it about a month ago with this lady with an accent?" "Oh yes- that's the owner Shirley but I'm sorry no appointment booked for you today." End of story. No follow up phone calls or anything whatsoever that resembled an apology. I filed a formal complaint with Groupon and should have taken the other Yelp reviews more seriously where Shirley herself responds back to negative reviews by stating and I quote, "However if you think that "it was not worth it," We wish you the best for finding a spa that could satisfy your need in San Jose." I called again and confirmed it was $50 and not $60 (for first timers), but she called back and said $50. I get to my appointment and she says well it's going to be $60 today, but after that it's $50. I got worried because I wrote a check at home already (I don't carry checks with me normally). I hesitantly mentioned that I called and confirmed the cost and she said it would be $50 because it was not my first time. She said first time doesn't mean first wax ever, it means anything after five weeks growth. Oh. I didn't know that. I guess I'm used to my other waxers prices in the East Bay and Los Angeles who charge the same price for everyone and they cost less. I was behind on my waxes due to an insane schedule. Lonni ended up giving me the wax at the quoted price $50, but I felt that kind of put a downer on the rest of the minutes spent there. So yeah, the wax was a great wax. Quick, clean, very similar speed technique to my Southern Cal woman (The Queen Bee) in West LA. I like the speed factor. That part is very much appreciated. Location is also great because it's a five minute drive or a ten minute walk from my house. I feel bad about this, but I'm going to be honest and keep up with writing real honest reviews. I was feeling pretty unsure about Lonni because I felt bad that I had prewritten a check for the lower cost including tip added to it (even though I confirmed the cost twice before the appointment). I felt she wasn't too friendly with me because of this miscommunication. I left feeling unsure that I would want to see her again because I can't see someone who I don't think would want to see me again and there is a lot of hesitation. PLEASE NOTE: I am not hating on Lonni or the business. I do want to go back because I think she does a great job. I just don't like the extra ten bucks for over five weeks growth. Sometimes I wait four, sometimes five, sometimes three and sometimes six. It really depends on how much I've grown. What's more important? The quality of the wax job or feeling comfortable with the woman waxing those hidden areas that I only want one other person to see. Would love your feedback.
