I stopped in here to get some local treats while shopping in Santa Fe. The gentleman running the shop seemed slightly befuddled when I asked what the specialties of the store were, but then he said things in the red papers (which have chile in them) as well as anything with pinon nuts. I tried a chocolate Chile bark as well as a few pinon clusters (milk and dark) which my mom and I both thought were very good, and a bag of roasted but unsalted pinon nuts to take home and bake with. Be aware for accessibility purposes that this is an old building that is below street level, so there are several steps down into the shop. read more

This was my first time visiting this shoppe. We were in Santa Fe visiting the churches and decided to walk the streets and check out the shops. A quaint little chocolate shop with plenty of different varieties of chocolates especially the chili chocolates. That is what I was most interested in. So much to choose from. Located in Santa Fe just up the street from the Loretto Chapel and Inn/Spa at Loretto, walking distance. These chocolates are also sold at the Albuquerque airport so if you miss getting them here, then you can buy them at the airport. Boxed chocolates and counter displayed chocolates. Walked in and a guy was sitting near the floor entry way on his phone. The attendant offered to help us and said to take our time. As we were talking, she asked if we planned to walk around and said to be careful to buy chocolates now and walk around because they might melt. Nice of her to mention that. read more

What a gem for those with a sweet tooth! Senor Murphy has what you're looking for in the candy department, whether it be fresh chocolate, truffles, or in-house-made lollipops! If you're into piñon pine nuts, you can't pass up the pine nut roll. My personal favorite piece of candy they sell is the green chili caramel milk chocolate. Mmm mm! In addition to their specialty creations, Senor Murphy also has your standard bulk candy and bars (smarties, gummis, etc) if that's your thing. Why this place gets all 5 stars though is the excellent customer service. I had never tried pine nuts before and wanted to make sure I actually liked them prior to purchasing some pine nut chocolates. The employee at the counter was nice enough to let me sample a piece (and they don't run cheap folks)! Whoever you are, you won me over as a customer right then and there. The one item I saved to try next visit to Santa Fe is the jalapeño lollipop. Gotta prepare myself for that one haha. read more

My wife has a big sweet tooth. Senor Murphy is a requirement for every time we are in Santa Fe (about once a year on average). They make fabulous candy. Some of it is the old standards (candy apples, chocolate covered toffee, etc.) I am most excited about the products that have a local, New Mexico twist (pinion & caramel rolls, chili pepper infused peanut brittle, etc.) If you go, you MUST have a chocolate covered, frozen banana. They are NOT on the list but they are available. They are amazing... my wife talks about them all year. They are house made chocolate, frozen bananas pieces and nuts. read more

Snack 2 of 6 of New Mexico Food Trip Extravaganza 2015 My husband remembered how his father would bring home chocolates from here while on business trips. We stopped in twice while in Santa Fe. I thought the bolita was the best. It consisted of chocolate fudge dipped in (I believe) dark chocolate powder and pinion nuts. Other chocolates we tried included the twin peaks (caramel with almonds dipped in chocolate), dark chocolate pinion (I liked second best), and milk chocolate tortuga (milk chocolate covered caramel with pinion). First of all, the chocolates here are amazing. My sister and I stayed at The Old Santa Fe Inn while in Santa Fe on vacation and when we arrived they had two complimentary chocolates for us. The chocolates were so good we looked up where to get more--Senor Murphy's. We ended up arriving at the San Fransisco Street location about 10 minutes until close. The store itself is kind of hard to find because it's very narrow but located right next to the La Fonda hotel. Now for why I gave this location only 3 stars: When my sister and I walked in we weren't greeted at all. There were 3 other people in the shop. A woman announced that she would be closing in 10 minutes. We waited our turn to be served and then placed our order. When the woman went to ring us up she VERY rudely said "well you both waited until the last minute to come in didn't you?" I thought she was joking.. So I laughed and said "yes, sorry!" She told us that next time we want chocolates we can always go to the location by the mall down the street which closes at 7pm instead. Then she took my payment, and boxed the candy up for us, not thanking us at all. Service is very important to me and the woman here left me with the worst taste in my mouth. Luckily I had some absolutely amazing sea salted caramel chocolates to help me forget it. read more

mmmmm YUM!!!!! Senor Murphy, WHY YOU MAKE ME EAT WHOLE BOX?!?!?! I hate pine nuts. Ever since I was young, I have hated pine nuts. BUT, I love pinons- only when they are in Senor Murphy's candy! My boyfriend is from Santa Fe, & his very sweet parents wanted to bring me a gift unique to Santa Fe when they visited, so they brought a box of "Santa Fe-vorites." Hah! +3 stars right there for being so clever. It was the most delicious gift ever, & lasted a whole 12 hours- 8 of those I was sleeping overnight. I oddly discovered that my favorite candies were all the pinion ones, so from then on I have always gotten the "Pinon Parade" box. The pinon tortugas are delicious- milk chocolate over gooey caramel & toasty pine nuts. The pinon toffee chips are crunchy vanilla sweetness. My boyfriend & I fight over the pinon roll- a vanilla fudge log rolled in pinons. It is sweet & buttery! But my absolute favorite are the pinon caramels, which are simple vanilla caramels with pinons. Chewy melt-in-your-mouth stuck-in-your-teeth perfection! After searching Yelp reviews, I stopped in and purchased a mix-and-match box of chocolate on my drive from Texas to Colorado. The store is small, but is packed from floor to ceiling with all the candy you could want. There are many pre-packaged boxes, along with novelty candy, candy apples, and other fun stuff. For my mix-and-match I chose mostly white and milk chocolate, and my preference is usually for caramels, toffee, and chocolate covered nuts. Hot red chile piñon brittle. I like this too much.

We braved a torrential downpour to find this little shop in the plaza. And believe me, the red chile pinon brittle was well worth the dance between the raindrops. It was the perfect combination of savory, spice, and sweetness. However, I still can't distinguish the difference between pinons and pine nuts, although the girl behind the counter insisted that pinons tasted better. Pinons or pine nuts, I'd bolt through the rain in a dress and sandals again for that brittle. read more

These chocolates were good. We tried an assortment of chocolates and liked everything we got. We didn't try any of their candies. However, if they are anything like the chocolates, they are sure to be good. Pricing was high but as expected for a boutique candy maker. Almost all the chocolates ran $20-something per pound. My one complaint would be with the turtles (referred to by the Spanish name tortugas, here). They were $25/lb but were solid pecans with almost no caramel and dipped in only a thin layer of chocolate. The boxed turtles from your local supermarket are better and far cheaper. Conversely, the caramel apple was only $2.75 and was fantastic. If you're in the area, have a sweet tooth, and are looking for something more than a Hershey's chocolate bar, give this place a try. read more

Have been coming to this quaint little candymaker in La Fonda for so many years. The best candy I've ever had and look forward to coming back every year. When I was a little girl, they were on Palace and I couldn't wait to go for a SPECIAL treat my Mom would take us there- We would walk there from our house and I loved the Big jawbreakers.... Now it is nuthin but Pinion candy and chili candy.. YUMMY and SO glad they have not fallin' by the wayside like so many Mom & Pop shops.. The memories this place envokes!! I ordered Chocolate covered Strawberries, for my father for Father's Day, and I got wonderful service. The gentleman on the phone wouldn't promise he could do it till the strawberries arrived, and then called me back to say he had gotten them, and they looked up to their standards. As a borderline diabetic, candy is pretty much a non-starter for me. But this place had no-sugar chocolate-covered cherries and no-sugar chocolate covered macadamia 'turtles', so I bought a half pound mix just to try them. They turned out to be the best tasting sugar-free candy I've ever eaten: none of that murky, thick, cloying-sweet fake chocolate taste I've gotten with literally every other sugar free chocolate.
