My god, what a find! A friend and I stumbled upon this store while on a two hour visit to Santa Fe on our way to Albuquerque. We loved it so much that we spent a significant amount of time in here sampling all of their balsamic vinegars. You'll feel like a kid in a candy store with all of the classy stainless steel dispensers available for you to sample at your leisure. It was so difficult to decide but I walked out of there a happy woman with a bottle of their 18 yr aged tradition balsamic vinegar (top seller) and a bottle of their, wait for it... Georgia Peach Balsamic Vinegar.. my god. As you would imagine, that vinegar is light colored, rich and sweet (just how I like my men). This place is a DEFINITE stop if you are a balsamic vinegar, olive oil and/or salt connoisseur. Prices are reasonable ($20/per bottle), considering the amount and the quality. I like to think of this place as a little slice of Europe in the middle of Santa Fe. Also, I came across this video tonight while trying to figure out if Oleaceae already had a presense on Yelp. Amazing! I could spend hours here, filling bottles with Fig Balsamic and Chocolate Balsamic and Coffee Balsamic and Boysenberry Balsamic and Pumpkin Oil and Butternut Squash Olive Oil.... Heaven. And Customer Service? THIS place knows where it's at. They have a website, which is convenient for us out-of-towners. And they DON'T charge an arm and a leg for shipping. I absolutely LOVE the products sold, at this store. My partner & I bought the best balsamic vinegar here, while visiting Santa Fe. We ran out & ordered online, since we live in Texas. We greatly anticipated our order...only to have it never arrive. When we emailed the store, the response we received was: "Unfortunately, when a package enters the FedEx system the shop is no longer responsible for it...You'll need to call Fedex to see if you can get more information... Best Regards, Patrick" FedEx has launched an investigation & we are waiting. We have also called our credit card company in order to stop payment. My advice is to buy when you're in town but, DO NOT order online...even though their website states "...we strive to ensure that your shipments arrive safely and in a timely manner." read more

What a wonderful shop! I went to Señor Murphy to grab a box of chocolates as a thank you to my neighbor for cat sitting and saw Oleaceae and decided to stop in. The shop has an extensive selection of balsamic vinegars, olive oils and sea salts. They also have some really unique oils such as Roasted Pumpkin Seed Oil, Butternut Squash Seed Oil and Kabocha Squash Seed Oil... I purchased all three. I also purchsed a couple of bottles of olive oil and vinegars. To top it off, the staff was wonderful! They were knowledgeable and friendly, making it far too easy to linger and shop. Fun little culinary dream of a shop. There was more olive oils and vinegars than you could ever imagine to try and if you attempted to taste them all, you may just get sick. The variety was unreal. We finally settled on the Santa Fe blend which was chile inspired. It was very well balanced and thought it would be wonderful along side balsamico and some yummy crusty bread. At $28 each I would use this only for dipping. But bigger walleted folks might use them for cooking. Would return for the fun and definitely the place to get oils and vinegars. And if anyone wanted to get me a gift, I'd say this would be he place to go. read more

Whenever I go to Santa Fe, Oleaceae is a MUST so that I can pick up gifts for my foodie/adventurous chef friends. The set-up is perfect. Vats of olive oils and balsamic vinegars create rows of flavor fun, from chocolate balsamic vinegar to chipotle smoked olive oils! I became a big fan of butternut squash oil for its sweet nutty flavor and for the fact that it's burning temperature is much higher than most oils (so it retains its flavor even when cooked!). At first, it seemed odd to be going down the row SIPPING on balsamic vinegar and olive oils, but my curiosity for what blackberry chile balsamic vinegar taste like kept me going. The real reason I stop by Oleaceae every time I come to Santa Fe is their BLACK TRUFFLE SALT. GENIUS. Truffle oil has a very short shelf-life, but truffle SALT has the same shelf-life as salt!! You get the same truffle flavor, but in salt form! SO amazing. I always grab extras as gifts, and I have not met anyone who has not loved it. read more

A small shop just down the street from La Fonda (& Senor Murphy's!), but it is very well stocked with assortments of unique olive oils, balsamic vinegars & salts! They have traditional as well as flavored oils & vinegars, & they have flavors I have never seen before like butternut squash olive oil! It is delicious- smokey, salty, & nutty- tastes just like pumpkin seeds. They even have a mimosa balsamic vinegar, which I thought was cool, but unfortunately it was not to my liking. Their sea salt assortment is amazing! If you love smoked flavors like I do, you will appreciate that they have at least 5 different kinds of smoked salt! Hickory, Applewood, etc... Customer service is friendly, and very involved. We were greeted right away and asked if we needed help looking for anything in particular. Several times the owner would come up to us and offer random tastes of things he had poured. I appreciated the gesture, but it made me uncomfortable, especially if it was a flavor I was not interested in. I felt forced to try it to be polite! I am the type who likes to be greeted and have help readily available, but I mostly like to peruse by myself in peace. The only thing I wish they had was bread or popcorn to taste the oils and salt with. read more

The service here is quite attentive. The staff is very eager to help you make a selection. Perhaps, even a little overly eager, lol. We walked through here tasting the various balsamic vinegar and olive oils on a Sunday during Fiestas. One of the workers does have the tendency to follow you around and pour you a bunch of samples. It's great that they are attentive and want to make sure you try their best sellers, but he seemed to bring us cup after cup after cup. lol. That's nice and all, but sometimes you just want to shop around on your own without someone bombarding you with samples. I would be completely happy if he had asked first before he poured the samples. Perhaps asking if we were interested to try some of their best sellers, and if we would mind if he poured them for us. Something like that. We didn't end up getting anything, but they had a great selection. I didn't need balsamic of olive oil when I went. However, if I am ever running low and am in town then I would definitely come here to buy. read more

Wonderful, unique store with terrific products. The dark chocolate black cherry truffle balsamic is insanely good! I make an amazing salad dressing with it (it's the balsamic that is amazing - not my cooking skills). Sometimes I just open the balsamic bottle and smell the contents. It's the best stuff in their shop. My wife and I tried to buy more the day after buying our first bottle, but someone had purchased their entire inventory..! I am a food/nutrition professional and tend to hang out with others in that world. I have just found my go-to website when I am in need of unique and special gifts for people in my world! Oleaceae is an extensive collection of olive oils, specialty oils, balsamic vinegars, and sea salts. The entire selection is set up so you can taste as much as you'd like; each offering is also labeled with its flavor profile and pairings, both with vinegars and foods to use it with. I ended up with a green chile sea salt and a habanero heat sea salt, as well as a long list of other additions I would like to eventually add to my kitchen. I especially loved the butternut squash oil and encourage you to taste it! If you love food and cooking, and you're in Santa Fe, be sure to put this stop on your list. This place is pretty awesome! I wasn't even aware that such a variety of flavors existed when it comes to olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The flavors were very fresh and the product was high quality. The gentleman working there was helpful and showed me how they strategically placed the vats of olive oil between the balsamic vinegar so that they were conveniently located next to complimentary pairings. He also explained how they fused the flavors together as opposed to infusing the flavors which results in a much higher quality product. They have little paper cups that you can pour your own samples into. It was certainly a new experience for me to be drinking olive oil and balsamic, just straight up. I walked in being curious and walked out with 4 bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar and couldn't leave without a jar of the truffle salt either. Check it out! read more

If you like delicious flavored vinegars and oils I recommend this place. We visit Santa Fe a couple times a year from Silver City and always stop in. My wife and I like the ancho Chile vinegar and the roasted butternut oil. Great for salad dressings and roasted vegetables. It's a little pricey but a great treat for the home cook. read more

With over an hour to kill waiting for a table at Cafe Pasqual's, and after a little wandering, I discovered Oleaceae (good luck with the pronunciation). Initially, I was more intrigued by the fact that there was a store devoted to selling olive oils, balsamic vinegars and sea salts. Enough so that I decided to wander in to admire the rows of stainless steel (?) dispensers. As I quietly made my way through, a gentleman who worked there offered me some samples ... and they were AMAZING! The 18 yr Aged Traditional balsamic vinegar is spectacular and at under $20 a bottle, I considered it a bargain. The olive oils were equally amazing and ranged from one exotic flavor (harissa anyone?) to another. Absolutely nothing in the store is pedantic. I left with an arm full of bottles and have since sent others as gifts to my foodie friends. I can recall few other gifts that have been so well received with effusive thanks. Phenomenally rude non-customer-service response to a problem they created. We received a Christmas gift from a friend -- 1 bottle olive oil and 1 bottle vinegar -- from this shop. Turns out the "olive oil" bottle contained vinegar. Completely mis-labeled. E-mailed shop. First words of response? "Of course we did not label incorrectly on purpose . . . " After 2 or 3 exchanges of e-mail, their bottom line was, yes, it contains vinegar and . . . "We hope you enjoy it." No offer to make it right. (We now have 2 bottles of vinegar but as it happens, no matching olive oil). Rude e-mails. Not willing to even attempt to fix problem. Suggest NOT doing business online with this shop . . . don't know what you will get. read more

What a treat!!!! We happened to stop in on our way through old town and stayed for an hour!!! The owners were very welcoming and introduced my mother, sister and me to a selection of taste tests we would have never thought about trying. Fantastic store! The manager John let us try nearly everything in the store. He had great suggestions, so if he recommends something, then definitely try it. He had us mixing different oils and vinegars together, and the combinations were wonderful...even the ones that I didn't really think sounded good. I lost it on the black truffle sea salt. Delicious! We couldn't get enough of sampling the different flavors of balsamic vinegar! The gentleman helping us was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the product, and answered our many questions, since we were in awe. We had a hard time deciding which flavors we liked best (tangerine, lavender, chocolate, chile!), but settled on 3 bottles, which we are enjoyed now in our salads and marinades. Next time, we'll focus on olive oils. read more

I really enjoyed this store. I had never been in one like this before and it seemed very hip and popular. I was first enticed by it, because I am a cooking fanatic and I look culinary stores. This one seemed intriguing. I actually didn't sample any of the vinegar. I know what vinegar tastes like and I didn't want to try any. Plus, who wants to cart those sorts of things back, whether in the car or on an airplane, which I was in a car six hours away from home. I am a huge salt fan. In fact, I am somewhat of a salt snob. I noticed that they had my favorite, pink Himalayan salt in HUGE blocks. Wow, I had never seen this back home at my favorite spice shop. They just sold it in jars. I asked the staff about it. I heard a whole sh-peal about had it had eight-five or some number of important elements...I am sorry, I didn't care... It's salt. Either you like it or not. Luckily for them, I like salt. We bought a little rock for five dollars. It was fun. They told me I could use a cheese grater to use the salt. It now is sitting in my cupboard. I'm not sure when I will use it.... My second time a few days later at this same store was to show some friends. We actually ended up trying the vinegar. I didn't try the olive oils. Maybe next time... Someone told me that Chocolate balsamic goes great on ice cream. I thought, what the.., and then I tried it. It was fantastic. I didn't get pulled in enough to buy at this store. It was Santa Fe prices, a bit much. I am sure if I lived there, I would have bought some vinegar. Really fun place, worth taking a friend to. It's fun. read more

In addition to the oils, divinely-flavored balsamics, etc. they stock lovely handmade garlic mincer plates for dipping your French bread in garlic and olive oil. I considered buying one of their olive oils, but it wasn't worth it at $20 for a 375ml. It certainly wasn't going to be worth the hassle of getting the bottle through airport security or doubling the price by shipping or checking luggage. The salts, vinegars, and other oils were of no interest to me. And honestly, doesn't every cutesy, touristy town in the United States have a store similar to this? Just happened upon this wonderful place while out geocaching in Santa Fe. Balsamic vinegar tasting sounded gross to me and I have to admit I was super nervous before I tried my first one, Chocolate Marshmallow, I'm a sucker for anything marshmallow. However, it was sweet and bold and I could taste chocolate and marshmallow with a hint of tangy vinegar. My friend and I then began to taste most of the flavors there as well as the oils. We purchased 4 bottles having them ship them home to Cali for us. We ended up with Raspberry Ginger, Peach, Honey Ginger and Lemon. Walked into this shop while waiting for a restaurant to open and was so happily surprised by my experience. I was with a friend and just browsing. The man working here was friendly and offered multiple samples based on each of our culinary tastes. He also offered a lot of meal ideas, product information, and just general friendly conversation. We love this store! Happened upon this store while passing thru Santa Fe, went crazy and bought balsamics, oils and for some crazy reason a Himalayan salt block! We are so glad we purchased all those items! But especially that salt block, thank you for expanding our grilling world! We use that block to grill chicken, fish and pork.
