I really love this shop, which is why this experience was disappointing. I came in right at opening hoping for a relaxed browse, but the store already felt crowded. Toys were scattered on the floor (I nearly tripped), several children and caregivers were seated in the aisles, and three employees were actively stocking shelves the entire time I was there. With the already narrow aisles, I found myself constantly dodging people and inventory, which made moving around uncomfortable and took the joy out of shopping. I completely understand that stocking is necessary, but at opening it would be nice if aisles were clearer -- perhaps stocking could happen before opening, after close, or during scheduled events. I truly want to support local businesses, but experiences like this make it hard not to default to online shopping. read more

I loved this charming gift shop, stuffed full (& I mean FULL) of cards, gifts, toys and unique treasures! Don't miss the cabinet of miniatures by the front door if you are a dollhouse or miniature fan; I also found some other miniature items around the store in a few places, like the tiny copper pots that I purchased, so keep your eyes open. Lots of fun books for kids and brands like Jellycat plushies. Staff were friendly and helpful, and can be easily identified by their aprons! read more

My all time favorite toy store. Fun things for all ages both young and old. I believe it is impossible to leave empty handed. Trinkets and old fashioned toys right next to the modern. I don't care what the Beatles claim, money can indeed buy me love. I'll cut 'em some slack. I'm pretty sure the Fab Four didn't have kids when they composed that ditty. (Narrative now shifting to Third Person. All the cool kids do it.) Daddy was in Santa Fe for some stupid work thing, again, and daddy was feeling pretty sorry, because daddy had been working a lot lately. When daddy left Albuquerque in the morning, his little ray of sunshine gave him a serious guilt trip: "I miss you, daddy! I wish you didn't work all the time." The guilt trip was consuming his sub-conscious, and when his convention was over, he wandered out of the hotel and decided to buy himself some love. He opened his Yelp app and searched "toys". Doodlet's Shop popped up, and daddy seriously looked like a zombie as he stared at his phone, trudging the plaza sidewalks, following the map directions. Eventually, daddy found the little hole-in-the-adobe-wall, and man, the place was such a hidden treasure. Wall to wall, nook and cranny, Joy. Damn you, December, thought daddy. 'Tis the season for gifting, and this place is Mecca. So much to buy, so many people to please. What did daddy do? He bought a chintzy lil' token for his kid and a t-shirt for himself, designed by the Mekons, which he wears every Monday. That chintzy lil' token was a wind-up scuba diver for the bath tub. The ray of sunshine loves it. And it bought daddy love. read more

Remember the late episodes of Facts of Life? When Mrs. Garrett and the girls ran that shop full of neon flamingos, inflatable palm trees, and kit kat clocks? Doodlet's is like the modern version of that shop. It's full of goofy toys, kitschy wares, random decor, and all sorts of products that just make you smile. It must be great to work there. All day, you would hear customers laughing and half-hollering at each other to "look at this!" and "check this out!". At least, that's what we did when we were there. I only deducted a star because some of the prices seems a *touch* high to me. But I would probably chalk that up to the prime real estate on which the shop is located. read more

What a fun store!! They have tons of cute cards, toys, candy, trinkets, etc. It's definitely a toy store for adults, but kids will find something to look at. They even have some stuff for pets. Seriously, plan a good half hour to look around at everything here, and that still own't be enough. The new owner RARELY supports locals. Many cheap trinkets made in China. These are things you can buy in ANY big city. Anywhere. Most items do NOT support anyone from Santa Fe. It's really a shame for an iconic downtown local place like this to do so little that celebrates more of what Santa Fe has to offer. This is what happens when 'big city woman' thinks she can swoop in on the 'Santa Fe lifestyle'. A local friend of mine approached the new owner multiple times only to be turned down.
