JP and his crew are awesome! I had a hell of a time finding a good plumber who knew how to properly diagnose and fix a sewage ejector pump in the lower floor of my house. A few years ago I gave up on plumbers and hired a general contractor that was able to bring in someone to replace the pump but it continued to have issues periodically and eventually failed which led me to finding Sewer Detectives. JP's team replaced it with a better quality pump and discovered that it was plugged into a shared line. He hooked me up with a good electrician who put it on a dedicated line. JP is the man to call to fix your side sewer. I our case, our problems were multifold. We had persistent tree roots growing into our side sewer from a city-planted tree. The tree roots were also obstructing the sewer under the sidewalk and the street. Our basement sink was backing up on top of this. JP gave a root sample to a City arborist, who confirmed it was the tree in question. This was important because the City was attempting to force us to pay for problems located in the right-of-way. JP's knowledge was instrumental in working things out with the City. He is very trustworthy, and comes up with the most effective solution, so it is no wonder he is one of their preferred contractors. This could have been a nightmare of epic proportions. In performing the repairs, the Sewer Detectives was efficient and on-time despite having to dig further than anticipated. He used a camera to make sure their were no obstructions and finished the job early, when included replacing the sidewalk as well as any concrete contractor, and getting sign-offs from the City. read more

JP and the Sewer Detectives team did a great job repairing our sewer line in June of 2016. Things were going well for 3 years and then we noticed warning signs of a potential issue this June 2019. I can't say whether JP does a good job or not, as he didn't seem to want the business. I called and spoke with him, and when he asked me to text him with my info and address, I did so. Queue a week later, still no response. I gave him 8 full days, then texted him to inquire whether he was still interested. He finally wrote me back over a day later to let me know he could come by.... thanks but no thanks. I already found a more responsive company. Maybe he does good work, but it seems he needs to work on his customer service. Was he too busy? Had an emergency at home? J.P. and his crew were terrific (and super friendly)! They were knowledgable, responsive and did great quality work. We had a sewer back-up but did not know the reason. They were onsite the same day, recommended a pumper to relieve the back-up (All-County Septic), replaced the pump quickly, then replaced the alarm, which had also failed. The new systems were all upgrades. When I got the bill I was amazed and thankful to J.P. It was more than reasonable. When you are in such a situation you are at the mercy of the people you call to help. You hope for the best, and J.P. is the best. Honest, we have had so many plumbing & septic issues in our house these last 2 years, we have literally been throwing money down the drain on bandaids disguised as "repairs". After a sewer clog scare a few years ago, and after hearing about old-house sewer problems, and after seeing rat holes in the ground near our sewer lines, we wanted to be proactive and find out what the problems were. Really didn't want a major plumbing emergency one day! We had 3 companies scope our 90 year old sewer line. Turns out we had one sizable hole, at least one other smaller hole, and three different sewer pipe types looking askew. We selected Sewer Detectives to replace many feet of line, at two different angles from the house, all the way to the city line. JP explained and showed us the scope results, gave options, and provided an estimate that included everything we'd need. It was a major project, and JP and his team kept us informed about the timing, permit, and city inspections. The sidewalk was blocked, a giant piece of machinery cut grass and driveway. In just a few days, the work was done, sprinklers and sod replaced, and concrete poured. They even put in a catch basin for the house gutter run-off, to prevent debris from entering the sewer lines. Our garage flooded during a significant rain event. The next morning, I called a large company who had decent reviews; the knowledge of the call receiver and her quote gave me pause. However, the search terms I was using didn't seem to yield any better options, and felt I was at the mercy of the fee any of them would charge for what could be characterized as an emergency-response. I went to work, and at lunch stumbled across the Sewer Detectives. I called and was able to speak directly to JP while he and his partner were traveling to a job in Kirkland. He quickly gained my confidence, and told me that he would call me in an hour. As promised, he called and said he was enroute to my home in Edmonds and would be there in about 25 minutes. I left work and arrived just as they were getting their equipment into position, ahead of schedule! I had the drainage site plan that a Landscape architect drew nearly 30 years ago, but in less time than it took him to drive to my house JP was able to hydrojet a 1.5-inch PVC pipe with 2 elbows (they approached it from both directions), use the roto rooter root cutter to clear a 6-inch PVC storm sewer line from a catch basin in my driveway, and then explain my drainage system to me more clearly and more completely than the drawings. When we were talking about remediation options and how to improve my system, which he could manage as a general contractor, he was practical and conscientious in considering ways to complete the work efficiently and with limited impact to my yard. As a civil engineer, I really appreciated our discussion. So what was I charged for this prompt service the day after a crazy storm? Sewer detectives cleared both lines and charged a fair a reasonable price, ultimately saving me over $100 off of the quote for a single line from the other company. I had a serious problem with sewage coming up in my downstairs shower and laundry drain. I called in Rescue Rooter and spent over $500 only to get an estimate for over $3600 to repair a blockage in my sewer line. Rescue Rooter tried to pressure my wife into agreeing to the repair, but I wanted a second opinion. One call to Sewer Detectives and they stopped by my place that very day to check it out and get me an estimate. They where great - very professional, friendly and absolutely NO pressure what so ever. They provided a one price estimate that was far lower than Rescue Rooter, covered more work, and would add a new clean-out access in my yard. We gave Sewer Detectives the green light and where very happy with the results. No tearing down my fence for a back hoe as Rescue Rooter wanted - they brought in hand tools and got to the broken pipe quickly. Repaired it, tested everything, then filled back in the hole. In total, they where probably in and out in under 4 hours and everything looked great. It's been about 2 weeks and a lot of heavy rains and not one single issue.
