When I collected it, one sleeve puckered and would not lie flat, the stitching was incomplete revealing a gaping hole, and the black threads (on a light blue suit) were clearly visible. The pants had been sewn with what could only be described as a "mess" of black stitches which were also visible from the right side. The newly added metal clips were drowned in stitches and the original clips had not been removed. I hadn't realized it was such a mess until I got it home. Reluctant to take it back, I called and Misha insisted on fixing it although he didn't fix the clips. My overall takeaway was: if you need something altered properly, don't take it to Misha!

Therefore I got a new suit made for me at an amazing tailor in Chapel Hill (thanks Julian's). Unfortunately, due to timing, I was not able to use them for alterations. I live in a small town and thought I'd like to take the alterations to a "professional" location in Asheville. Therefore I took the suit to Mary's based on the great recommendations here. I asked for the pants to be CUFFED, fairly simple request. I was told they would be ready to pick up 1 week later. I got a call asking me to come 2 days later. When I arrived my pants were not done. I arrived tonight to pick up the pants on the way to a major meeting to find that they WERE NOT CUFFED!!! The owner looked at the ticket, said "oh, sorry" and then told me there was no way to correct it (since the remaining fabric was in my pocket). The hemming job is adequate. Honestly, they took the time to kneel on the floor and mark my pants with chalk but couldn't get my request straight?? This is a lot different than overlooking my steak, I doubt they are buying my a new suit. Of course, they still charged me for the service of messing up my custom order suit.

Tara is AMAZING in both her skills and personality. She listens to your concerns/questions with patience and is just the right amount of helpful without pushing you into decisions. For example - she gives you all the info you need / things to consider, will do quick mock-ups on the spot so that you can see her suggestions, will take pictures on a phone for you which I find helpful in comparing options, etc! And she goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable throughout the process; it was like talking with an old friend who just so happened to also an expert tailor. I am someone who has a hard time making decisions on the spot but I did so with ease at Sugarcane! I did my original bridal alternations at a different place (the place I bought my dress), which was an incredibly stressful environment and I ended up being really disappointed in the fit of my dress at the end. The top fit very strange and felt like it was going to fall off. The original place just told me to put some double sided tape on it (??). That's when I found Sugarcane Studios. Tara knew exactly what to do to fix the issues and I finally feel comfortable and ready to get married in the dress! Bonus - they are extremely upfront about the costs of alterations. They have a lists of prices that they go through with you after your first appt so that you know exactly what to expect. I wish I did my research before my first alternations process and went to Sugarcane from the beginning. Don't make my mistake!! She's also making a custom veil for me which will include some left over lace from my alterations process. I found their veils to be reasonably priced and they will literally cut them however you want! 11/10 GO SEE TARA Side note: they are fairly busy (because they are so amazing) so definitely try to get in early!
