I recently took a brand new pant suit to Misha's to have both the sleeves and legs shortened and the metal clips at the wais eased. When I collected it, one sleeve puckered and would not lie flat, the stitching was incomplete revealing a gaping hole, and the black threads (on a light blue suit) were clearly visible. The pants had been sewn with what could only be described as a "mess" of black stitches which were also visible from the right side. The newly added metal clips were drowned in stitches and the original clips had not been removed. I hadn't realized it was such a mess until I got it home. Reluctant to take it back, I called and Misha insisted on fixing it although he didn't fix the clips. My overall takeaway was: if you need something altered properly, don't take it to Misha! read more

I really wanted to love this place and support a local business, but my experience was disappointing. I took 6 pieces in for alterations ($95 total). Most were fine, though rushed, with uneven stitching--but you wouldn't notice unless you looked super closely. However, one pair of pants had particularly poor work--messy stitching that didn't match the fabric color and a new zipper that bulged out when worn. It shouldn't have gone out the door. When I called, Misha was friendly and told me he'd refund both the alteration and the cost of the pants. But when I came back a week later, he acted like that conversation never happened. Instead, he accused me of "trying to make money off of him" and refused to honor the refund he had promised. He offered to fix the pants in 30 minutes, but at that point, I had lost trust and the pants were a lost cause in my eyes. He also got loud and rude, even though I remained calm and trying to have a constructive conversation. After 15 minutes of back-and-forth, he finally wrote me a check for the $26 alteration--but then refused to give me my pants back. It's bad business to make a promise and not follow through (and take my pants?!), but even worse to treat a customer that way. I even told him he could have just said, "Bring them in and let's see what we can do" instead of making an empty promise. After that, he suddenly claimed that's what he had said all along on the phone. So easy to create false memories apparently! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. POOR QUALITY. EXTREMELY RUDE. NOT TRUSTED IN ASHEVILLE. Like many others have already shared in their reviews, this sewing business has clearly lost the respect of the Asheville community...and I now fully understand why. The owner is extremely rude, dismissive, and lacks basic customer service. He makes inappropriate and unprofessional comments, and his demeanor is anything but personable. The work itself is rushed, uneven, and honestly careless. Straight lines seem to be a challenge, and attention to detail is severely lacking. I've taken multiple items here but not high-stakes items like wedding dresses, thankfully...but still, the results were always underwhelming. I let it go at the time, but after reading so many similar experiences from others, I felt compelled to speak up. This is not a one-off situation. The consistent pattern of rudeness, poor craftsmanship, and disregard for customer concerns speaks volumes. Please, do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. Asheville has too many talented, respectful sewing professionals to waste time or money here. This is not a business that deserves your support. read more

Apparently you found it appropriate to tell a dear friend of mine to "keep her mouth closed" so she could fit into a dress, instead of you DOING YOUR JOB and making sure that she could fit into the dress that she fought so hard to make it to! You never know what people have gone through and why they may need your "PROFESSIONAL" help! Next time, why don't YOU keep YOUR mouth closed. You have lost the respect of a lot of people in this community due to YOU lack of respect and professionalism. That's what happens when you speak to someone like that. My family experience with Misha Alterations was very positive. My husband needed uniforms altere, years ago, was very satisfied with the work. Years later, my mother-in-law needed expensive, heavy curtains hemmed, beautiful work. Then recently, needed alterations on men's dress shirts, turned out great. Prices are very reasonable. (Let's face it..alterations are expensive!) But I have spent much more for less than satisfactory work. read more

I came in couple days ago was met at counter by a gentlemen very rude and attitude was like he was doing me a favor just letting me be there!! I had a feeling when I left there I wasn't going to get done what I had asked, for he would not look at me. He would not listen to me. He was more worried about one of his coworkers being on the phone, and what they were talking about so I go today and pick the pants up with basically the same attitude and they were not correct as I figured they would not be!!! stop taking paying customers for granted now I see why you want people to pay upfront, which I do not mind as long as people act like they care what you're wanting. I normally. Go to a place in oteen called sew & sew They were closed that day. So I thought I would give this place a trough that will not happen again. Went to Misha to get my prom dress altered. I didn't have my exact heels picked out at the time so I didn't worry much about it... I walk in and i get greeted with "put on the dress"... so i do. with other customers in the room he tells me he cannot do the alteration without my heels. but... i was debating on also wearing flats. i told him and he said i had to have heels. he told me he couldn't do it. bad service-- rude-- confusing? read more

I went here for me and my mother in law, ruined her jacket. He was supposed to fix my dress zipper, I came home and it broke again. It's very expensive and does a terrible job. I went again to give him another chance and he didn't alter my long dress with a straight cut, it was zig -zagy and just terrible, I could've done a better job. Came in for simple maternity alterations and left in tears. I needed a pair of work trousers hemmed and he argued with me about the length (they were still touching the floor with his length and I wanted them a little shorter). He refused to shorten the length and told me that if he shortened the pants to where I wanted, I would refuse to pay because they'd be too short. Red flag #1. I also wanted to add a fabric belt to a giant parachute-like maternity shirt for work, he suggested that I add elastic to the back instead. I told him I really just wanted the belt to tie around and give me shape, because it was a button up shirt and I didn't want it pulling back and unbuttoning and he said what I wanted was going to look ugly. He was very argumentative and negative the entire time. Seriously, go ANYWHERE else in town. Even if he does a decent job, the "customer service" alone should warrant a boycott. read more

I was very disappointed with my experience here. Although the workmanship was very good and the turnaround time was very quick, the quality of the material used to re-line my beloved leather jacket was not satisfactory. Worse, I had asked upfront if the lining would be similar to the thin, shiny, silky, luxurious lining that was in the jacket but quite torn up from many years of use. The man I left it with assured me it would be. When I picked The jacket up, I saw that the lining was not anything close to what I had expected. When I asked about it, I was told that it was silk, which is simply not true. The insides of the pockets have a shiny silky material in them, Perhaps from my original lining.. But the whole rest of the lining of the jacket is made out of some material I think is closer to a heavy matte Nylon or polyester that wrinkles easily and is not smooth! I am not happy. I had pre-paid for this work I don't think this was a fair transaction. read more

Altered a coat I needed within only a day, very fast and professional. They are very friendly and great at alterations.

I needed: -hemmed -hook & eye added -taken in on the sides -straps taken in The man (i'm asuming Misha) was very rude when i walked in, didn't greet me.. just said "put dress on" Quickly marked where i needed the dress hemmed to and used pins to make how much to take it in on the sides. I wore the shoes i planned on wearing in the wedding so that it would be hemmed the correct length. When it came time to pay i asked him to tell me what all he was doing on my dress before i paid ( i couldn't read the writing on the ticket, see photo) so that i would know i didn't forget to mention anything. He raised his voice and said $60. I repeated my request for him to tell me what all he had marked to fix on my dress. He acted as this was a huge issue and insulting to him. I went to pick up my dress.. it was hemmed shorter than had been marked and approved by me. Hook & eye were missing. When i asked him to please add a hook & eye he tried to make me pay for it AGAIN.. once the hook & eye were added he said bye have a good day. Didn't take the time to ask me to try it on to make sure i was happy or anything. AWFUL customer service. I will not be going back to him for alterations nor do i suggest anyone else to give him business. read more

Finding Misha's has been like striking gold! That might seem a bit dramatic over an alteration place but let me tell you, it's not! These guys are professional and incredible! I started with just some basic pants and then decided I would bring in my Lederhosen that I bought in Germany a few years ago that fit me now like a clown suit! I thought there was no way they would be able to do it with all the intricacies, the leather, the satin interior... I just thought there was no way this could be taken in with keeping the integrity of the beautiful design. Misha did it though! And only five days and I'm all set for Oktoberfest now! I don't know how they did what they said they were going to do to my wedding dress...but they did exactly what I wanted. I still can't see any stitching or where they even cut it. I am blown away. I've never had anything altered by a professional, but from what I've been told they were EXTREMELY well priced. Their work is superb!!! I personally wouldn't go any other place. The sweet man that helped me, also asked me if I was ready for the wedding and even suggested things he could do with the dress after the wedding...I replied to him that maybe I'd just get fat and wouldn't wear the dress again! Terrible! They ripped a hole in my slacks when I sent them in for hemming. They also couldn't sew a straight hem for the bottom of my dress.

Misha did a masterful job altering my wedding dress. It needed extensive changes, and he was attentive to what I asked for. He made suggestions from my very first fitting that provided huge improvements in the fit of my dress, which was awesome. I was more than impressed with the finished results, and my dress is even more amazing than I anticipated it would be. I've heard way too many stories about ladies who had nightmarish results with wedding dress alterations, and am so happy and relieved that didn't happen to me. Misha got it right the first time, finished my dress promptly, and even made a couple extra changes to make my dress as nice as he could. I didn't ask for them... would have happily taken the dress without them, but he wanted to get it just right, and I appreciated that so much. I took two pair of jeans in to have elastic put in the waist on both and one pair had to be hemmed. First he told me how long my jeans should be. Should have seen the red flag then. When I went back to pick them up, he told me he hadn't hemmed the one pair. I insisted that I had requested hemming. After looking on the ticket, he agreed that they had been hemmed. He insisted that I try them on. I said I couldn't because my dog was in the car. The outside temperature as in the high 70s, plus I didn't want her to get bored and start tearing the brand new $30,000 Subaru up. He insisted again and I said no. He then said, " Listen to me. You could take these jeans home and bring back another pair and say that they hadn't been hemmed." Exact words. At that point I walked out of the store. I tried them on when I got home and although the hemming was fine, the elastic stopped right before a leather rectangular medallion on the waist. This makes the jeans hang differently on each side. When I took them in, he had to have seen the medallion. He did not ask about it so I assumed it wouldn't be an issue. Apparently it was too much trouble to take the medallion off, so just stop the elastic before you get to it? Not appropriate. I paid more for the "tailoring" than I did for the jeans. Lesson learned. I haven't been treated that rudely in quite a while. read more

This man is incredibly rude and insulting..I had my son take a pair of my pants there to replace a zipper that would not lock in place..kept coming unzipped. The man told him the zipper looked fine and that maybe some people didn't know how to work a zipper. Seriously. I have takes several things to him, and he is always rude and unfriendly. Misha was great! Called him up and explained that I needed a dress hemmed but was only in Asheville for the day as I was traveling to Texas for my brother's funeral. He had to work around a bad hem job on my dress from another alteration business. I was there by 10:30 am and he had finished before the noon pick up time he had stated. I wasn't even greet when I walked in the door. Fitting seemed very rushed. Five minutes after dropping off the bridesmaid dress I called back and asked if they would hold off on the hem (wasn't sure about shoes). They said absolutely. When I went to pick it up he had done the hem unapologetically. He knew I wasn't happy with it and only responded that it needed to come off. Now my dress is too short for many heels and I had to pay extra for the hem. read more

Misha completely butchered my wedding dress. I have seen teenagers doing his work. After weeks of distress, I ended up taking my dress to a reputable alterations place in town. They said his work looked like it had been done by a child. I wasted time and money. He is cheap but you get what you pay for.. I would never take anything there again. read more

I don't usually write reviews... I went in with my wedding dress, tried it on, and the owner took about 2 minutes to see what I wanted altered. I was nervous because I felt like he was so quick to get me in and out. After two days and a mini panic attack that he didn't understand what I wanted accomplished, I came back to a perfectly hemmed multi layered wedding dress, a new princess neckline, and cups put in. I was ecstatic and couldn't recommend this business more! Oh and incredibly inexpensive... At David's Bridal it would've cost probably at least $150... He charged me $49. Went by Misha's today with a jacket that I thought needed a new zipper. Based on reviews of different places in Asheville that did this type of work, I decided that this was THE place to go. I wasn't disappointed. I fully expected to end up leaving my expensive jacket with him for a week or two to get the zipper replaced. Misha took a look at it and told me all it needed was a new slide - 5 minutes later he was done, his work was wonderful and he only charged me $6.00. He could have easily told me it needed a new zipper, charged me much much more and I most likely would've never known the difference, but he was very honest and precise and I know I'll be back!!!! I found Misha's Alterations to be very mediocre. I brought in my wedding dress to have hemmed and pressed. It came back with the same wrinkles it had to start with, that the owner assured me he could get out. Now I'll just have to take it to someone else. read more

When I first tried this place, it was good. I think Misha was doing the work himself. Last two times have been disasters. He barely marks the clothing - maybe with one pin - and never, never presses his work. Had to take work back twice. Customer service really lacking.
