I love Katie's studio! It's the perfect place for one-on-one or private group sewing classes. I did take a sewing class at another studio and was not impressed with the noise or distractions from others using the classroom. You definitely will not experience that at Sew Katie Did. Katie's studio provides everything you will need for class: sewing machines (4 in the studio), tools, and in case if you forget, fabrics and zippers. What I like about Katie's classes are that you register by which workshop interests you. My friends and I have taken Katie's "All Zipped Up Box Pouch" and "Zip Pouch Workshop". I like focusing on a project since it provides the opportunity to learn how to dissect pattern instructions and how to troubleshoot sewing issues with Katie. So far, I have been proud with how my projects have turned out and I look forward to signing up for my next class at Sew Katie Did.

Katie's studio is clean, neat, well-lit, and perfect for a private class! She provides coffee, tea, parking, and all the tools you need. She even has fabrics. I took her "All Zipped Up" Box Pouch class and had a great time learning. Her Bernina machines were easy to use, and she was very helpful and patient. The smaller space ensures that you get all the attention you need and no distractions. I'm looking forward to taking more classes soon. Thanks, Katie!

This is after one class and one open studio!

I can't believe I had never explored this store before!…read more Seattle recreative (the sodo location) has just about everything you could ever need for crafting. They had fabric, all aspects of sewing and scrapbooking, jewelry making, bulk paint and glue, glitter, and a wide selection of different containers. I don't think I could even write everything they had. The prices are dirt cheap: I bought 9 or 10 things for $5. If you (like me) are really into sustainability, I can't think of a better place to pick up your crafting supplies.

Somehow, I had never heard of Seattle ReCreative, but I'm glad I stumbled upon it! The store doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's much bigger than it looks. The front rooms have sewing supplies, knitting/crochet needles, fabric and notions, plus modeling clay, jewelry and beading stuff. As you go further back, there's a room with office supplies, a section of cards and stationery and paper ephemera. The biggest area is in the back, though, where the main warehouse is. That's where you'll find gift bags and tissue, floral supplies, wicker baskets and tins, paint, and tons more random stuff. The other side of the warehouse is a crafting area that looks like it can be rented out - they said they had had a bunch of kids in earlier for a field trip. You definitely have to sift through the piles of stuff to find what you're looking for, but the prices are very reasonable. I love that it's reducing waste and encouraging creative reuse - anyone with hobbies knows how expensive it can be to get started with supplies, and this is a good way to try things out inexpensively. (Or get rid of the evidence of an abandoned hobby.) Their hours are a bit limited, but similar to other small crafting/hobby supply shops. Overall, if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and hunt, there's lots of treasure to be found!

There were popular brands with a large selection from each such as Fableism, Ruby Star Society, Sarah Hearts, etc. I ended up with some gorgeous deadstock cotton seersucker, out of my comfort zone but very special. One critique is that their bottomweight and coating section was fairly limited, but I'm assuming that they were slowly transitioning into Spring/Summer choices at that time. Everything felt high quality and intentionally selected, not at all like the big box stores. Pricing was on-par with most independent stores - not cheap, but worth it. I hear that they have sales every once in awhile so I will be on the lookout. The day I went, it was absolutely packed! The parking lot is relatively small so you might have to get lucky or circle around a few times when you visit.
