Premier Inn

I'm going to give this 5 stars for being a great Premier Inn, not for the grade of hotel…read more It's brand new, built by the river next to the Worcester County Cricket ground, which on my visit was completely underwater, as you can see in the picture! Rooms were a good size, clean and comfortable with all the usual facilities that you would expect from a Premier Inn - en suite bathroom, large TV, hairdryer, tea & coffee facilities (no biscuits though), choice of pillows for the bed, and 30 minutes free Wi-Fi. Minimal, but all you need for a good night's sleep - in fact, they do say that they will refund your money if you don't sleep properly. I was tempted to put this to the test as I didn't really get back to sleep after being woken up by the room upstairs returning at 1.30am, but that's not the fault of the hotel so it would have been churlish of me to complain. The check-in has two automated desks similar to ATMs or airline check-ins that are very easy to use, although there was a very helpful and friendly staff member on duty as well to help guide you through the process if needed. They also reassured me that the night watchman would keep an eye on the car in the car park and wake me up if the rising flood waters, which were already covering a third of the car park, threatened to engulf it. The bar and restaurant is in the building, and the staff both at the bar and at breakfast could not have been more helpful and friendly. I didn't eat the evening meal in the bar, but the menu looked OK and reasonably priced. Had I not had a prior engagement I would have eaten here quite happily. As usual at Premier, breakfast is extra but it's worth buying one as you can eat all you want from the buffet. There was a good choice of hot food to order, including vegetarian sausages (yay!). This might be because the place is new and they're trying to make a good impression (it worked!), but I hope it lasts, as this is a very convenient location close to the city centre when visiting Worcester.

Let me set the scene…read more... It's a lovely, sunny, summer's day and you're in Worcester. You've been looking around all the nice shops and visited a few of the sights, and now you feel like a nice relaxing drink to unwind. You could do a LOT worse than visiting the Diglis House Hotel. Just a few minutes walk from the town centre, and with a lovely long beer garden, set right on the bank of the river severn, there are very few places that offer such a pleasant way to while away an hour or so. The beer is great. The food is lovely (if a little pricey in some areas) and the atmosphere is fantastic - you won't find any drunken louts at The Diglis, just a good crowd of people. Dogs are welcome and water bowls are available should you decide to bring Fido along with you. There is also free WiFi access, although you may struggle to get online if you're sat towards the far end of the beer garden. All in all, a fantastic place for a pint (or two, or three)..!

I advice people to go to this place on a sunny day to have a cider, pimm's or other refreshments, avoiding weekends as it's pretty busy!

The staff is excellent - super capable and so friendly. My room was very nicely appointed and the size/space though more modest is excellently arranged with all the niceties of a upper-end hotel. A refined mixture old world class and modern conveniences. There's a a couple restaurants (reviews on the way) that look great. This hotel is tucked away in the country. So it may be harder to find. With the help of Edward Constable in 1795 some nuns who were imprisoned (?!!) in France were brought back to England and acquired the Hall and the surrounding 22 acres and converted into a convent, and in 1876 it became one of the oldest printing presses in England. It truly is magnificent and the staff are excellent, hospitable, friendly and eager to serve and please. Due to the pandemic it is at maybe 30% capacity but the COVID regulations are strictly enforced making us feel safe enough to stay here and enjoy our 25th anniversary of being together and 18th wedding anniversary. And if it's raining - plenty to enjoy and explore in the roaming structure and our room/suite (the Thompson) is spacious, comfortable and guarantees an enjoyable stay. Two thumbs up!!
Fownes Hotel
The Fownes Hotel is centrally located to Worcester's Cathedral and nightlife. Unfortunately, the…read morehotel knows this fact, so they do not work very hard to make customers feel welcome. The hotel was an old glove factory--and I don't think anything has changed since that time! The walls are cracked, the floors squeak, and I could swear I heard the anguished cries of over-worked seamstresses! The Great Western Hotel is better--and a third of the price! The Good: The hotel is centrally located and the restaurant staff was very humorous. The "Library/Sitting Room" is beautiful! So much so, that I recreated it inside my own home (back in the USA). The Bad: Overpriced and smells "like the souls of a thousand peasants" (along with stale cigarettes). The Ugly: The Hotel Manager. He is rather rude and yeah, kinda ugly. Imagine the face of a turtle, but with bushy eyebrows.

The first visit, checking in with lovey polite staff, the roof was warm and welcoming and large, with nice little touches like the Christmas scatter cushions and the chesterfield sofa in the room and so on. The WiFi is excellent. Checking out was a piece of cake too. I had an excellent night sleep, the room was immaculate and I immediately booked my next stay there. The second visit was utter tosh. I was greeted by a miserable, rude arrogant receptionist who literally looked at me like something he trod in. But I just went to my room. Expecting the same again. How disappointing. It was absolutely freezing, so much so that I slept in my coat and didn't shower the next morning as I was cold to the bone. I ended up waking up early when I needed some sleep, and checking out. I was so tired I had to pull over for a rest in my car with the heaters on! It's such a shame as I raved about this place, but, after my last visit, I'll be hesitant at going back.
