A beautiful hotel and grounds. This is a great place to relax given the beautiful spaces of a…read moreconverted abbey (church). We saw a wedding reception, as we drove up to the hotel. The staff is excellent - super capable and so friendly. My room was very nicely appointed and the size/space though more modest is excellently arranged with all the niceties of a upper-end hotel. A refined mixture old world class and modern conveniences. There's a a couple restaurants (reviews on the way) that look great. This hotel is tucked away in the country. So it may be harder to find. But GPS got us there just fine. Definitely recommend this hotel.

With the help of Edward Constable in 1795 some nuns who were imprisoned (?!!) in France were brought back to England and acquired the Hall and the surrounding 22 acres and converted into a convent, and in 1876 it became one of the oldest printing presses in England. It truly is magnificent and the staff are excellent, hospitable, friendly and eager to serve and please. Due to the pandemic it is at maybe 30% capacity but the COVID regulations are strictly enforced making us feel safe enough to stay here and enjoy our 25th anniversary of being together and 18th wedding anniversary. And if it's raining - plenty to enjoy and explore in the roaming structure and our room/suite (the Thompson) is spacious, comfortable and guarantees an enjoyable stay. Two thumbs up!!

The hotel was an old glove factory--and I don't think anything has changed since that time! The walls are cracked, the floors squeak, and I could swear I heard the anguished cries of over-worked seamstresses! The Great Western Hotel is better--and a third of the price! The Good: The hotel is centrally located and the restaurant staff was very humorous. The "Library/Sitting Room" is beautiful! So much so, that I recreated it inside my own home (back in the USA). The Bad: Overpriced and smells "like the souls of a thousand peasants" (along with stale cigarettes). The Ugly: The Hotel Manager. He is rather rude and yeah, kinda ugly. Imagine the face of a turtle, but with bushy eyebrows.

The first visit, checking in with lovey polite staff, the roof was warm and welcoming and large, with nice little touches like the Christmas scatter cushions and the chesterfield sofa in the room and so on. The WiFi is excellent. Checking out was a piece of cake too. I had an excellent night sleep, the room was immaculate and I immediately booked my next stay there. The second visit was utter tosh. I was greeted by a miserable, rude arrogant receptionist who literally looked at me like something he trod in. But I just went to my room. Expecting the same again. How disappointing. It was absolutely freezing, so much so that I slept in my coat and didn't shower the next morning as I was cold to the bone. I ended up waking up early when I needed some sleep, and checking out. I was so tired I had to pull over for a rest in my car with the heaters on! It's such a shame as I raved about this place, but, after my last visit, I'll be hesitant at going back.
